what aboout shield
# Jul 01 2001 at 2:41 AM Rating: Default
anyone get a shield from him?
RE: what aboout shield
# Dec 07 2004 at 12:38 PM Rating: Default
No, never. I have killed Herbie hundreds of times and the shield has not dropped once. Nor has it ever dropped from any other MoB in CC...at least for me and I have killed literally uncountable numbers of various orcs with a wide variety of chars at various times. If this does, in fact, still exist it is hella rare.

What is the lowest lvl a Magician should go in and go for the herbalist? I'm nowhere near ready, this I know, but it's my goal to get the BCR.

RE: Can't wait for my turn!
# Jun 13 2001 at 4:45 AM Rating: Decent
I would say 35, but that may be cutting it close if you're soloing the herbalist. You'll be able to solo most of the orcs in there fairly well and if you come accross the herbalist the trick is finding a good place to pull him to.
BCR

I went right in to this zone and right off.. theres the herbalist. Killled him for a BCR so i got a port out of there and sold it for 3k. Went back.. Theres the herby, BAM, another BCR solf for 4k (7k now). Back in and BAM.. guess what> yup.. another one... Sold it for 4k and then bought an FBSS.

I also hate your *** and if you ever see me in the game I will duel you and kill you even if you do not accept. Believe me, I'll just find what zone you're in and pull a big *** mob on you and you'll die in a second. And I hope you DIE and lose 10 levels! :)

A level 30 monk saying they'll kill a level 40 enchanter... Monk hasn't dueled an enchanter before obviously.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 03 2001 at 2:22 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) that sounds like bs man...
RE: BCR
# Jun 25 2001 at 4:44 PM Rating: Default
First of all, it could be BS just because there's always a ton of that floating around in EQ chat.

However, he never said he was soloing it, so a 30 monk could fight down there with a suitable group of others. Next, his story, while implying he did it very quickly, doesn't say that the Herby spawned 4 times in a row at the entrance. He said that the 4 times he went down there the herby was right there, it coulda been a few hours or days in between. Since the closest he coulda ported would have been commons and Iceclad, you have to add about half an hour of transit time in there (unSoWed). So add that to however long it took to sell them, and its not like he went in 4 times in teh span of 5 minutes and found the herby.

Either way, you're either full of crap, or very lucky.
RE: BCR

Dont think so. He was just very lucky. Its possible
RE: BCR
# Jun 16 2001 at 6:55 PM Rating: Default
No, his chances of that...well first count the number of orc spawns in the zone, then factor in the chance one of them will be herby(also the chance to be forman and such), THEN the chance that he will spawn 4 times in a row at entrance, the chance is close to about 1 in 780,000. I'm thinking hes juts some n00b trying to look cool and make others PO'd, o well.

Not to mention that he's killing this lvl 32 mob as a lvl 30 monk?

I haven't fought this guy yet, but I know at level 30 I had problems with creatures that were blue to me, and he's just wiping out creatures that are higher than he is... sounds a bit fishy

# Aug 15 2001 at 12:39 AM Rating: Default
I've been camping orcs with my level 30 (got to 31 last night) enchanter for 2 nights now. I have seen the herbalist 3 times and all of the 3 times he conned EVEN to me (level 30). So he could be doable by a level 30 monk twink. No doubt (my level 27 monk can take out yellow mobs if he's got mend and is lucky hehe).
I only got to kill the herbalist once though, becuase the 2 other times I saw him he was being killed by other people.
The time I killed him (yes i soloed him at level 30 as a enchanter) he dropped the CCS..

I've gotten five consecutive HBC's from the cloaked dhampyre in Mistmoore. Total camp time - less than 5 hours. I had to make alts to store the cloaks on. Doesn't mean he's full of ****, maybe he's just really lucky too. (Then again, I can't even get the dhampyre to spawn anymore.)

This guy has been about as profitable for me as anything in the game with the exception of planer stuff. This guy can spawn ANYWHERE .. believe me i have hunted him for almost 10 lvl's now and have been more than lucky in the drops i have recieved.. so far i have gotten a total of 24 CCS and 11 yes 11 BCR from this kat.. heheh needless to say my account is nice and buffered now and i have none of the usual i need cash for something issues... easiest way to hunt this guy is be familier with the caverns from the bottom of the pit to the exit leading to the rhygor fort.... now me being a druid with tracking just made it easier for me to do i simply invised made sure i had sow... tracked .. saw him and ran the path.. you will get to him .. root snare dot nuke .. done collect your loot invis and out the door you go.. dump the CCS or BCR on and alt and go back for more... after lvl 39 or so no more exp from this guy but at lvl 46 i still stop buy for a quick hunt the herbie fix ... heheh never know might get another quick 5k robe from this guy. to be honest he drops a little to often and the market is now flooded with the CCS and BCR at least on my server but they are sweet items... good luck in hunting this guy.. hehe oh yea .. the above are correct .. if you clear an area he WILL spawn there.. it doesn't matter what area you clear ANY will do.. just keep it clear and if he not already up somewhere eventually he will spawn for you...

Ry'Gorr Armor? I think not...
# Feb 28 2001 at 4:09 PM Rating: Good
After spending 11 levels in Crystal Cavens I killed the herbalist about 100000 times and only saw: Herby Pack, Crystal Covered Shroud, and Blackened Crystalline Robe(Not that I didnt mind getting 4 Blackened Crystalline Ones =D ) I got total of:

Herby packs: Inumerable, but take one to Lake of Ill Omen, worth ~100pp there.

Crystal Covered Shrouds: 2

Blackened Crystalline Robe (BCR): 4

If you are wondering about the lore, I just killed it and got a guildie to come loot and give to an alt later...

Ry'Gorr Armor/that Sheild: 0.0

Also, I find it totally unbelieveable for the miners and watchmen to EVER drop ry'goor chain armor. Ive killed like millions of those.

And just to not waste your time of reading this post I shall list all the rare drops on orc part:

The Ry'Gorr Inspector (Random spawn time/area) drops a Crystalline Belt (5ac 3 wis 3 agi .8 weight ALL ALL and it drops it everytime.

Random Ry'Gorr Oracles: Drops Cloak of the Ry'Gorr oracle about 1 out of every 20 kills. It is like 6 ac 2 int 2 wis 10 mana 10svcold 5sv magic 2 weight ALL ALL

Foreman *Enter Name Here*: Foremans Skull Cap (Rare) its like 8ac 4 str 2 dex 2 sta.
Nasty Surprise
# Feb 23 2001 at 9:32 AM Rating: Default
Last evening was my friend's and my first encounter with this notable. Our first battle went relatively well and he dropped the shroud. Our second time through, he gated out on us mid-battle to bring reinforcements (most notably an Inspector and a Foreman) and we were rather quickly splatted. So, unless you and your group are of somewhat overwhelming force (we were but four hardy souls, 28-31)you might want to plan on a way of interrupting his gates, lest the battle get quickly out of hand.

SPAWN AREA
# Feb 19 2001 at 2:35 AM Rating: Decent
The Herbalist most generally spawns in the bottom of the well. His most common drop is the pack (weight reducing). Killed him 7 times now and that is all he has had. Everytime he spawn it was in the bottom of the well area
can spawn everywhere!
# Mar 02 2001 at 4:50 AM Rating: Default
can spawn everywhere... have killed it 6 times, 2 times nothing, 2 times herb pack, 1 crystal covered shroud, 1 blackened crystal thingie.

Seen him at TOP 3 orc spawns (orc miner, orc watchmans spawns). Also seen the Oracle there and got a nice cloak of it.

Also seen the herbalist spawn at the three miners at the dead-end at the top.

seen him on bridges.

In my opinion it can spawn everywhere. If you are alone in the dungeon, just keep killing some orcs at the same place and he will spawn there. Ofcourse try to see if he hasn't spawned yet hehe.

More Spawn Info
# Feb 18 2001 at 11:41 PM Rating: Excellent
Ok, here's some info to help yall get your nice nifty robes.

He's green to me at 42 (was blue at 41, so I'd assume 31 or 32), and is an easy kill -- lose less than a bub of life and 2 bubs of mana to take him out. He *can* heal, but doesn't do so very often -- more often than not he just keeps trying to chain-cast Tagar's Insects, even when he's at low health.

As for his spawn points. He can spawn ANYWHERE that a normal Ry`Gorr Miner can spawn. He will NOT spawn at any of the 100% watchmen spawns. Just to clarify, though, he can spawn where watchmen do spawn occasionally, because Miners/Watchmen/Oracles/Herbalists can all share one spawn point. There are, however, some constant spawns for the Watchmen and the Oracles... obviously, they are the only ones that can spawn there.

People will tell you that you can't camp the Herbalist. You can. I find it easier, even at 42, with a partner along... preferably a druid. One person sits at the mouth of the dead-end tunnel near the top of the zone. The other person patrols the hallway and small alcove between above said hall, and the beginning of the ice cave part. Just keep taking out the static spawns, and he'll pop up eventually.

Using the above method, it is not uncommon for him to spawn about an hour between the areas camped. His timer's not a set thing though, I've had 4-hour herbalist droughts, and I've had 2 herbalists spawn back-to-back.

As for what he drops, he's got 3 of them. Herbalist Pack, which is a Lore 25% weight reduction pack, 6 slots. Not too shabby, but most of them rot. He's got the Crystal Covered Shroud too, AC12 4str 4int 4wis 10cold Pale Blue Robe... monks/druids/clerics can use, in addition to the normal pure INT casters. Lastly, is the coveted Blackened Crystalline Robe. AC8 5cha 6int 10cold... looks like Blighted (the necro plane robe), with a sort of blue frost on the extremities of the robe. Very nice.

From personal experiences (I've killed a hundred or so Herbalists, in my estimation), I'd say he drops the Pack about 75% of the time. 20% he has the Crystal Covered Shroud, and that 5% left over he drops the elusive Blackened Crystalline Robe. All his drops are lore, so if you and your groupmates all have one of the more common drops, you can shout for people to pick em up -- great way to make friends!

Hope this helps yall out, now go get a robe!
It works :)
# Apr 02 2001 at 4:23 AM Rating: Default
Thanks for the advice, worked like a charm.

My personal experience was a little different because I was doing it solo as a 44th enchanter. I camped the upper halways leading from the wastes all the way to the first crystal 'bridge'. Not a large area, but about as much as I'd want to cover myself. I kept a pet up (waited til 44th for the new pet), would put rampage up on myself, root a mob, slow it, walk near it to have it swing at me, then back off and med as the pet beat it down, once it hit 50% i'd start casting discordant mind. This took care of 95% of the miners without any issue, oracles were similar matter.

After the spawns are broken you stop getting adds from wandering miners, I kept enthrall memmed to keep adds busy, always make sure to slow them while they're enthralled so when the pet runs over and breaks it they're already prepared. :)

The herbalists aren't really a problem, no harder than an oracle, sometimes easier. I only had to zone twice, and that was 'cause my pet got mobbed by 3+ miners (went too deep too soon, my fault). The fact that they gated was never really an issue because I had the spawns cleaned so thoroughly, they had nothing to train back, I'd just run the route til I ran into their spawn point.

Total herbalist kills = 5

3 packs, 1 shroud, 1 robe. I got lucky. :) Took about 4 hours all total.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 18 2001 at 12:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Went into CC at level 56 to get a robe, dropped down to the bottom of the caverns, summoned a pet, whacked some orcs, and a herbalist spawned and I got a robe.

a 33 ranger could solo the herbalist untwinked (me) actually i did it at 32 and 33 dropped bcr the 4th kill real nice (it was for my chanter guildie) pack the other times you just gotta watch out for miner adds. id say miners are actually tougher than the herbalist =P can be a good or bad thing depending on what u can take down:)

My experience with the Herbalist
# Feb 01 2001 at 10:57 PM Rating: Excellent
I saw the Blackened Crystalline Robe and decided I would spend the rest of my EQ days (if need be) to get it. It didn't quite take that long. I was a level 38 Necro and either soloed the Crystal Caverns or had my fiance with me. I most often found the Herbalist in the bottom of the Caverns, near the pit area in the tunnel leading to the dwarf city. I would sit near the pit area so I could see what mobs went in and came out... but far enough away so as not to get aggro'd. I camped that area for about 20 hours and we killed the Herbalist 15 times. We got 2 Crystal Covered Shrouds and finally the Blackened Crystalline Robe (and the 25% weight reduction packs the other times). The Herbalist either came from the pit area or from behind me in the tunnel. He was quite easy for me to kill. He's a caster and can heal himself, but not very fast. I would root him, send pet in, double dot him, cast a dd, and sit and med. If root broke, I would just root him again and sit down... very easy.

Good luck if you are going to try for this robe. Perhaps you'll get lucky. If not, the robe is gorgeous and definitely worth it. I have been offered nice kpp and trades for it and get constant compliments.
Herbalist information:
# Jan 21 2001 at 6:10 PM Rating: Good
Well, I camped him a total of 7 hours last night, and he spawned 8 times. We got: 2 Blackened Crystalline Robes, 2 Crystal Covered Shrouds, and 4 Herbalist Packs. Me and a partner were able to cover 7 or so of his probable spawn points in the top of the dungeon.

Since I don't want to divulge *all* my secrets, I'll just confirm that he can spawn ANYWHERE a normal Ry`Gorr spawns -- this includes statics and roamers.
Drops and locations
# Jan 17 2001 at 3:54 PM Rating: Excellent

I've killed him about 15 times now, he's all over the place but wherever he spawns he seems to wander around so you can camp at a crossroads for a better chance of encountering him at some point. Last night he spawned two consecutive times at the topmost spawn right near the zone.
In the times I've killed him he's dropped a number of Herbalist Packs (very common), and shrouds (common enough), and one robe (which I didn't get despite being the only enchanter in the group, not that I'm bitter :P). He always drops one of the three.
Prepare for a wait if you're after a robe, but it's great fun and there's a bank in the zone so there's no need to return to civilization until you have one. =)

Noted Spawn Points
# Dec 25 2000 at 12:35 PM Rating: Default
Camped the herbalist for many hours until he finally dropped a BCR. In 9 hours, he spawned mostly (at least 10 times) in the small room near the entrance where he's camped, or on an area that is on the ramp up to the right when you leave the room. He spawned one time clear across the ice walkway, and I heard him casting one time but could not find him, but for the majority of time, he was to be found right around that small room.

This is not to say that he doesn't spawn all over the zone, or that he's not totally and completely random, but for me, for 'at least' 9 hours, that's where he spawned.

Good Luck to ya! Most folks seemed to have a great deal easier time getting a robe than I did =)

I have killed many herbalists and most seem to be the wandering spawn near zone in or a wandering spawn at the bottom of the drop near the dwarf town. That seems to be where they spawn a good percentage of the time.
