How many HP do these things have?

Level 37 druid.. I snared a blue conning one and pulled him up the bridge towards the iceclad zone. Three DOT spells (drones) two immolate and about seven blasts with combust later, this guy was at half health waddling towards me.. still snared. I got full damage on everything.. no resists. By this time I was oom and just zoned.. decided it probably wasn't gonna be worth it loot or experience wise to kite him around and dot him for ten minutes. So now I don't bother :)

I would say 8 x 612 (Firestrike) + 1 x 425 (Calefaction) = 5321 so I would say roughly 5300.
About 3500-4000 IMHO

When I killed one that conned even at 40 (most con blue), it took 2 Scourge (500-600), 4 Venom of the Snake (500-550), and two Poison DDs (230). Contrary to most of the posts here, I think that Manticores are excellent for root/DOT for a shaman or druid. They have similar HP to a frost giant, but are higher level and don't run fast.

You screwed your self by doting him while you were kiting. Dots do way WAY less damage when they mob is moving. Like 66% less I belive.

what are you talking about dots do not do less damage if they are moving. i think you are thinking of spells that hit multiple times like pogonip. if dots lost 66% of thier strength then druids couldnt solo like they do

Actually, DoTs do exactly 67% (2/3rds) of the full damage on a moving MOB. That is not 67% *less* damage but 67% of the full damage potential. If the MOB is feared then this does not apply. This is why you should be snaring, Rooting and then DoTing for full effect. Otherwise just DD kite if your mana is sufficient.
Tactics to take em down

With a lvl 52 druid this thing can even con blue depending on the spawn.

using enveloping roots (which can be resisted by them at times) move just in range of your dot (breathe of ro combined with drones) then move a bit outside that range for safety (when the root breaks).

If he break you can try to root and then run if it does not stick to set up another root.

Dot again to conserver manna or just cut loose with starfire or other fire based spells.

If he gets a piece of you he tends to be able to double attack for 111dmg (at least on me this was the dmg). Get moving quickly or you will be pushing up daisys in no time. Just get on that sow and enough range to root him and repeat.

I've downed most of these blues that I found near the Orc camp.

Sound tactics for the druid, as a Necro(50), i fear kited with no problems. Hit with Cascading Darkness, fear, bond of death, venom of snake, lich (on me), re fear, venom, sould drain, DEAD Manticore. I dont know what they hit for as i have never been hit by one.

2 man team of 49 enchanter , and 45 druid can eat these for lunch, druid to pull and snare and get an enchanter pet on it fear, Dot and med. may have to refear once. Still great XP, and the most damage i have taken is a hit for 115 when rune dropped.

Rather solo-centric views...as a warrior, my tactic is to stand there and swing at it while the rest of my party keeps me alive and makes him dead. Hope that helps out. <smirk>
Do not attack ever! - ouch

Con'd blue to the tank and i was the healer - he got full heals and we still had to zone, thing was only down to 1/3 life as well - tough little buggers

Kited one of these things around with my 40 Druid for over 10 mins. It seems to have a high MR (Drones resisted 4 TIMES IN A ROW), had to med-kite it and throw a nuke in here & there for good measure. Lousy exp and only dropped a Manticore Mane. Conned blue.
Level is off

Conned a red scowling manticore as a lvl 40 shaman, so they go up to at least 43!

Saw one on Track near the Great Divide zone. Track list was only half full at the time. So they can be found fairly close to the zone area.

I did the run from Iceclad to Thurgadin last night, taking a scenic route, and saw these scattered in various areas like near the walruss's and the giant fort.

With my druid, I was charming mammoths and having them attack the manticore. With Shield of Spikes and Feral Spirit on the mammoths, this thing killed 2 wooly mammoths and 1 tundra mammoth, and was still at a quarter health. (A couple Firestrikes finished it...)

Seems to hit for 110s (doubles).. I think it proc'd a flame lick when it stung me once. Also, it cannot be feared since it is not an animal.

Enchanter Fear works great, have not tried charming yet, but i think they would be good pets.

GREAT PETS
# Oct 22 2001 at 10:58 AM Rating: Default
Started charm soloing in EW at 29 using dervs, but Manticores make EXCELLENT pets) - they can tank 3-4 FG savages np (Hasted of course) - max hit is 115 or so, havent seen the proc but they do throw a nasty poison on yas. A word for all you chanters out there - USE CHARM! Dont be scared you squishy chanter! lol Yes your pet will kill you in one round, just dont let him touch you when charm breaks, use crowd control, mez, recharm. easy money)

most powerful and underused spell in game
