This guy is a breeze. We had a small group and killed him about 6 times last night. All ya need to do is pull him out snare em and fear him and the rest is history 1 dead wurm.
Caster... Kinda...

If you melee him you'll get a combat message saying "Shardtooth begins to cast a spell" and "SoAndSo was hit by 140 of non-melee damage" but I think it's more of a Proc (cold-based) than a regular spell. If you kite him around and never get into melee range he will never cast on you, or at least he never did it to me.
Indeed
# Nov 29 2001 at 2:24 AM Rating: Decent
...much like a Velium weapon procs, there is initial damage from a hit before the 'cast' damage of 140-150ish
OMG a giant 4 legged iksar....

Stop bragging about killing shardtooth. He is a non caster mob with around 5k hitpoints. Being non-caster, he is easy to kill so no big deal.
===
My mistake. He is a caster but a non-healing caster. We took him out... me 41 Wizard, 38 Ranger and 42 Ranger.

Well.. well... I never thought I'd enjoy being Agro'd on so much. You wizards out there know that if you nuke early.. it takes almost forever to peel the mob off of you. So basically, once we pulled this supposedly tough level 42 named wurm... I nuked early... rangers kept him snared and I just ran around while them rangers beat on his tail. Nuked him again when he decides to chomp on my buddies who ran away (to minimize damage due to lack of healer) from him when that happens so he'll start chasing me again... repeat and rinse.

Okay lowdown on Shardtooth. He casts Ice based nukes... but poor little him, we were anticipating that. Buffed up cold resists with gear and spells. He hit me twice for 140+ ice based nuke and the rest were resisted either fully or partially. He still laid a hurting on all the 3 of us, but no one went below 50% hitpoints and it was so sweet to see him fall to the hands of 3 classes that alot of people say suck. No healer, no chanter, and no true tank! We owned a named mob that was equal or higher in level than 3 of us! Broodmother, you're next!

Lol, Rangers and Wizards don't suck. If many people say so, it's because they are newbies. I am raiding RyGorr fort atm and I am lvl 49. I group with a lvl 46 Ranger and we totally owned the entire place. I got 3 full sets of RyGorr with him (3 of each of course) in 3 days. So NO they don't suck. Wizards are great as well. Their nukes are just great when we have to finish off a mob quickly.

last night
# Jun 07 2001 at 2:13 PM Rating: Default
our group of four killed him...35 sham, 35 ench, 39 ranger, and a 40 cleric. Had an elder wurm mezzed the whole time too. Took quite a while....I went through about 4 scourges....but eventually he dropped. Then we did the elder. It was a good fight:) He dropped the Tunic (id love to get the eye):( This guy has LOTS of HP.
#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 03 2001 at 9:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) so buddy, exactly how did you mezz a wurm-dont let verant know youll get banned for you exploit.
RE: last night
# Sep 18 2001 at 3:41 AM Rating: Default
By using mezmerize perhaps?

*shrug*

Are they supposed to be un-mezzable or something? in which case I suggest you go and try it.

Hardly an exploit to use a spell :P

Well, unless Verant has done some changing, no dragon-type mobs can be mezzed or stunned (same thing really, just mez is a stun that can be broken). I soloed ole' Shardy the other night for revenge and all (160 arrows <always summon 200 ;)>, 6 roots, 10 Drones, 2 ensnares). During the small amount of Melee that I did near the end, I still got the "Your Target is immune to the Stun portion of this spell" when Call of Fire would proc, thus leading me to believe that they are still immune to mez/stun.
Perhaps he meant to say "Charmed" instead of mezzed, cause charm works nicely on Wurms/Giants, unlike stun.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 10 2001 at 9:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I solo'd Shardtooth in less then 10 minutes! easy loot! i advise all 40+ to kill this beast! and the eye goes for 2-4k sweet!

Just FYI, I thought about trying to solo him while looking for glowing wurm biles. All GD wurms are damn near 100% cold resistant, even the young ones resist IC almost all the time. I shackled him, hit him with rend about 7 or 8 times, he chased me back to velks with half life.

We got a different tunic off of him a few days ago. It was better and was a Shardtooth's Skin tunic....not a Shardtooth's FLAYED skin. Had better stats. Anyone else find this ever?

Yes, the one I looted recently was called Shardtooth's skin tunic. It has exactly the same stats as the other named tunic. AC14, +35hp, +35mana

Earlier today me (39 druid) and a 46 druid took shardtooth down. Ensnare was easy to stick, the 46 druid took care of the swarm dot and I took care of the immolate dot. we both took turns rooting, and had to re-snare twice. took us about 20 minutes to kill him, and in the end we both had been oom for about 10 minutes. Another character finished him off the rest of the way with one nuke. One question though, why do the wurms have a bad habit of warping around the mountian when low on life? We had to chase shardtooth around several times because of this. Anyway, just wanted to say that he's hard, but it can be done at lower levels.

How hard to solo?
# Feb 21 2001 at 4:06 PM Rating: Decent
Killed him tonight solo using 51 druid. He is damn hard at this lv, due to his mega hps. The fight took about 20mins and I had to re-ensnare him 3 times due to it wearing off.

Theres no problem sticking ensnare on him, but he breaks root a lot and in the end I gave up re-rooting.

Tonight a group of five took her down...

Level 43 cleric, Level 39 Bard, Level 41 Druid, Level 42 Warrior and Level 35 Warrior. Hell of a fight but we did it.

Mega HPS on this bugger. Fight took about 5 minutes...me (cleric) kept Shardtooth feared and the tanks beat away. Druid snared and the bard did his Chant of Fire song in addition to buffing the party with haste.

Dropped the Shardtooth Flayed Skin, which the info says above. Level 35 warrior won it (gratz Apop) :)

On a personal note, I agree with the level 51 druid, this wurm is mega hard. I'm surprised as hell we didn't die by it...keeping it feared was what did the trick. Personal reccomendation to druids out there, don't kite it if you are level 44 and under...very good chance you will die ;)

Shardtooth popped three times within a half hour or so for us in GD. He has a spawn point somewhere just inside the southern end of the Wurm Caves there. We killed him twice, each time getting one of the nice items listed above. Fortunately, unlike some of these wurms, Shardtooth does NOT cast spells, at least he never did on us. Just a ton of hitpoints, hitting for over 100 damage a strike, and doesn't respond favorably to being nuked. That said, while his MR is probably higher than other wurms, I (35th level druid) managed to stick ensnare on him each time, with maybe 1 fail in there somewhere.
May be bugged
# Jan 01 2001 at 3:48 PM Rating: Default
Killed him last night (60 druid), when I snared him is hp went down to half (whats that all about?) After that is took 2 wild fires and he was down.
RE: May be bugged
# Jan 15 2002 at 1:21 PM Rating: Decent
Are you telling me that you made it all the way to level 60 being a kiting Druid and you couldn't figure that out? The first time I ever started kiting someone else's mob from a distance, the hit-points showed full on the target window and only registered accurately when I got close enough to be yelled at by a group to "plz stop ksing". That was around level 17 in SK and hasn't happened since.
RE: May be bugged
# Jan 24 2001 at 11:40 PM Rating: Default
not bugged, someone else did half the work for you, you probably
tracked him, and after you jumped on him, the hp went down,
it was probably the peps standing around the corpse yelling at you
heh
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 03 2001 at 1:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Uhm .. his HP went down to half after you snared him , because somebody else already did 50% damage you toad. Did you buy your lvl 60 on ebay, I mean isn't it obvious .... a bug LOL. I just can't believe that you have never seen a mob that looks full health from a distance, but goes down when engaged (because somebody else fought it). You have never seen this in your 60 levels ?!??

I would say that shard has about 4-5k of hp. If this guy took him down and he was at 1/2 life or so ad 2 wild's killed him that seems about right. He's not bugged you just got him after a group bailed or was killed by him, just wasn't close enough when snare first took then when he got close the game updated.

Fought Shardtooth twice last night. Both times he conned even to our group of 3 level 42's. Therefore I would say his max level is 42 and he hit's much harder than he conned.
