Hate to spoil this if its anyone's little secret (considering the outrageous prices this spell goes for) but Improved Superior Camo just dropped off of one of a normal old Crystalline Shardwurm.

My druid buddy with me had to change his pants I think when he looted it.

My experiences camping these wurms
# Apr 02 2002 at 10:06 AM Rating: Decent
I have camped these often from level 51-54 (yes they are still blue at 54), usually duo with an SK of the same level as my cleric. I have seen many spells drop here, including Improved Invis to Undead, Improved Invis, Improved Superior Camo, Spirit Quickening, Call of Earth, Translocate, Translocate: Group, Great Divide Portal, Circle of Great Divide, Circle of Wakening Lands, Monster Summoning II, Shroud of Pain, Sha's Lethargy, Flame of Light, and the bard song Melody of Ervaj. The shardwurm eye is a very rare drop, although I have seen two drop in the time I have spent at this camp. White scaled tunic is fairly common, it is not unusual to get one every couple hours, and the white scaled leggings are less often dropped but not as rare as the shardwurm eye. The stinger drops often enough that my SK partner arms his pet with it. You can tell when the stinger will drop because you'll see the wurm have a piercing attack along with clawing if you have your battle spam turned on.

By the way I can attest that these can be successfully fear kited in their room, at least with the 49 SK snare/dot. The thing to remember is that if it gets near the hallway while running, to let fear wear off and let it return, then fight it near its spawn point but toward the wall and away from the hall where the wanderer (usually an elder) paths. I have never seen a crystaline wurm bring adds from the hallway unless you fight in or too close to the hallway and aggro the wanderers. The other wurms' aggro range is not that large and dooming darkness keeps their wandering very managable.

Just did a quad of these...
# Mar 27 2002 at 3:53 PM Rating: Decent
I was root/dotting the crystal shardwurm room, seeking a few spells. There are 4 regular spawns in this room, and one rare spawn if I remember right. So I medded to full mana and tried a quad of the 4 wurms (the rare wasnt up). I am currently a 59 druid, with epic and 7th shawl. Wis is 216. I had aego on me and at one point while rounding them up I was down to half health (meaning about dead if I didnt have aego). I suggest you use extreem caution if you try this. I was able to drop 2 of them with fist of karana, then was oom so used epic and warden symbol of tunare to finish. (warden symbol = clickable root, epic = 1500dmg clickable dot).

Gonna take some time to learn the pattern, but if it works out this will be a nice spot for farming spells and such. This spot is very rarely hunted.

BTW these are most definatly NOT animals. Dont know if they used to be or somthing but they are NOT charmable, NOT fearable by druids.

GL to all.
Spawn Time...
# Feb 24 2002 at 8:36 AM Rating: Decent
...is about 12 minutes, 13 max. As a 54 druid, there are 2 ways I go about soloing these guys. I only pull the first two.

#1) Once inside the cave, I'll root one with low level root, then camo up. Once root breaks, I'll lead it out to the left towards Velks. Most of the times, none of the elders along the way will see through my camo, and once outside it's just a simple root & dot. If I get any elder adds, I just root them and kill later. You could just keep doing that, or you go stay inside after you've killed one.

2) 12 minutes is barely enough time to med up and kill the next one before the one accross from it spawns (unless you have a mana regen buff), but staying in the cave is possible too. Just make sure you're out of aggro range if the other one spawns, because there won't me much room to move with 4 wurms in that cave. I usually start blasting 1/2 way through the second application of DOTs.

Soloing as 51st Druid
# Dec 23 2001 at 1:51 PM Rating: Decent
I was able to solo one of the wurms in place (Root Dot). I used ES Vambraces, don't think I would have suceeded otherwise, but since I use Immolate now that I have the Vambraces, I am not sure. I consider the room broken now, I should be able to solo the remaining 3, one at a time, rooting as I run back and forth to the spot where the one last killed spawns at and where the one I am fighting spawns at. The only thing that worries me is there spawn time, I do not yet know if I have enough time to med back up before I can kill the next one. I will post again if it takes too long.

Hmm, after this I escaped failing 3 more kills, and then suceeded 1 more time, then died. So I am considering this too tough for now.
Soloing Wurms

These guys are very easy to solo. I am a 51 Necro and sometimes kite 2 at once. They tend to loose interest if you get too far away from them, I click my jboots then run backwards in order not to loose them .. and pull them outside the cave. I put dooming on them to pull them out .. they are not too fast to begin with so you don't HAVE to snare them but it helps. I fear put pet on and dot.. Thats pretty much it . Lately tho fear tends to break more often. The loot is not too bad and they have had a lot of spells drop for me. These guys are good to solo =)

Can anyone tell me the drop rate of this, I only need 2 more, should I be lazy and auction to loot this or go waste them myself hehe. I can easly solo these, only problem I ever have is the strange agro effects, I run like 2 feet from it and it doesn't even remember I am there and walks away, silly wurm lol. Well hope someone can tell me the drop rate, in the mean time I think it time to work on tailoring =p.

Wait until nightfall. Wurms with the bile will spread light like a Wisp does (if you have dynamic lights on). Just kill those.

This drops off of young wurms as well as others...I have picked up 3 killing the wandering wurm near the dragon ring between ports....Just take the time when your there to kill the wurm and you'll be suprised how many you get in a few kills...1 in 3 or so on those wurms.
Soloable? Yes!
# Oct 27 2001 at 4:40 AM Rating: Decent
I have been soloing these the last 2 nights, specifically to get my improved superior camo spell which I got on the 10th wurm I killed. The trick is to lead them out of the caves past the southern cave entrance. The first night I had the problem of 2 wandering wurms of ancient and elder type. Here, I had to wait and time the pull for when they were in an adjacent room or way down the corridor. A couple times they passed by and agroed me, which I solved with a quick root, but most of the time, the crystalline just walked right by/through the wandering wurm. No tag-alongs, nothing. The second night, there were no wandering wurms in the cave connecting to the crystalline room! I just pulled at my leisure. If you do agro a wanderer, you may have to zone or kill it first, because they don't forget and will cause you troubles.

These have a lot of hit points. I would say in the range of 3500-4000 hps. They are tough, break root rather easily and resist magic to some extent, but they are soloable. One big thing you HAVE to watch for is that warping is very common. Half the wurms I fought warped to either the side of the mountain next to the cave entrance(south) or warped back to their original spawn point in the cave. Can lead to a sticky situation, especially if you are low on mana. Beware, but reap the rewards!

Can people solo these or do theyhave to many hps As a 53 druid I can solo Gurol Longshanks and he has a top of hps if I could solo pull one of these would it be possible to kill it by myself?
RE: Are they Soloable
# Feb 07 2003 at 11:14 AM Rating: Decent
I can solo them with my level 47 Shaman (with KEI) - Root em, Slow em up, DoT, Weaken them, have Hasted Pet Melee - Heal the pet when needed - Keep up the DoT's - DD When they are at 30% health. Ya just have to keep it rooted so it doesn't aggro the others inside the circular chamber. There is a wandering Elder that will poke his head in a little ways, so be wary of him while moving about that chamber.

Crystalines spawn in, oddly enough, the Crystaline room near the center/south of the cave complex. There are 4 in the room, just far enough apart that they can be done one at a time with a group.

BUT...

If one starts to wander or gets knocked out of position, expect a pal to join in. Especially in the back of the room, where the two spawns stand closer together than those in the front.

These things are a pain. An absurd amount of hit points for their level, process a nasty ice based DD and hit hard, 100+.

They are only of interest if you are looking for the spell drops. There are many, MANY other level 40 mobs that are far easier to cope with if it's experience you're looking for.

As far as a druid soloing them...no. You cannot kite in the room, period. Root/DoT will likely get you killed because if you are not in melee range of the wurm, you are likely flirting with disaster with another nearby wurm. Kiting one at a time out of the room is no-go, because you'll be kiting (attempting to) past all the wanderers in the corridors. They don't care for that. And druids are delicate creatures. A few of those lovely CRUNCH sounds from a wurm and you got trouble. A failed Ensnare got me a pair of 115s last night before I could blink. A failed root will just get you several wurms and dead. Remember, we are talking deep in the caves for Crystalines.

You are warned.

I am a 45 warrior and was able to take these partnered with a 43 lvl cleric fairly easily. I did all the fighting while the cleric gave about 2-3 complete heals during the battle. They do have a lot (as in beaucoup) of HP. I estimate 2000-2700 and they hit hard. They have some casting abilities and elders are able to self-heal, while ancients claw with a frost shard proc that hits for 75-175 dmg.
Our strategy was that cleric would simply fear (he was DE) and I would chase it and knock the hell out of it. Even so, would still need at least 2 Complete Heals during fight (I was buffed to 2200 HP). It wasn't bad, just make sure the casters have full mana, and don't pull 2 at a time- you will regret it.

I, a 36 enchie and my partner a 44 druid take
down the ancients and guardians quite easily.
We camped them awhile to get the drop spells and
even took down Shardtooth a few times (although he
takes a while to kite). I don't even need a pet
for these encounters. We tash, snare, root and then the debuffing and doting begins:) They
sometimes gate, but i still don't need to mana sieve them or even mentally debuff them as they
always seem to gate to the top of the caves. Have
heard about Kardokov attacking thru the cave, but so far only my partner has encountered him and he managed to escape.

Really easly done with my BST at 52 they still con dark blue too me ok xp good drops. Ok here is the scoop you can invis (for the most part )
threw the caves. The elder Sw see invis the way you can tell if you con them and it regards you indifferently it means it cant see you, they have a short argo range so not so bad ok here is how i do the cycle 1# get too the entrence and wait to all wourms have past before unclicking invis quickly get out a pet and throw 2 buffs on it haste and proc ( need 49 pet for this ) there will be 4 wourms in the room can be single pulled by anyone. take the one out on the left first and ill explain later they cast a ice base dd for bou 150 dont rember really after first one is taken out buff pet completely. 2 pull will be the wourm on the left pull to the spot where the first one spawned because when it gets low it will start to return to spawn spot. Now pull the wourm to the back on the right to the same spot he too will run in that direction.lastly you wanna pull the on in front of the cave to the back corner he will try to run out if he does i have seen as many as 3 poss adds that will start casting nasty dd's on ya. This is a great solo spot for a BL not sure bout the other classes but ill let the experts explain that one. GOOD LUCK!!
