Okay, it was my first time in Velious and i am a level 32 shadow knight of the iksar race. I decided to hunt in Great Divide and i got a group hunting the Kodiaks in the Kodiak caves. I was with a level 30 warrior, 29 druid, and a 31 wizzy. We were at the 3rd kodiak cave camping right outside it and i spotted one of these (Young Shardwurms) walking around. I conned it and it was white to me. I asked my group if they wanted to try it, (they were also pretty new to velious and none of them had ever killed a shardwurm before just like me, so they wouldnt know if they were easy or hard) and we decided to pull it. The warrior went and grabbed it (with sow on) and in seconds, he was down to half health. The druid did her best to blast some life into him as i taunted my *** off (which proved to be a big mistake -_-;) The thing aggroed me like all hell and blasted me with 150dd every 3 seconds or so and clawed me for 50s. The druid went OOM and we seemed doomed, (it didn't help that our wizzy had to run because a Kodiak aggroed it). I Harm touched it and that brought it down to a sliver and we managed to kill it. The battle ended with me at 1.5 bubbles, the warrior at 2 and the druid OOM. These things are VERY tough! They seem to have an enourmous amount of hit points for their level.

I killed on my self its not easy at all i fear kited it almost killed me 150hp dd spell its uses on you but i found out that it heals its self too so i know a lv 38 SK Ogre can do it .....
On all Shardwurms this loots are VERY RARE. We killed last night around 100 Young 50 elder 50 ancients and around 20 crystalline shardwurms. Result was just : 2 x Tunic 1 x Eye 24 x Claw 18 x Stinger 0 x Leggings 0 x Skin think the eye is not droped by young shardwurms !!! or the best chance for it is ancient shardwurms.
for note my level 51 pet solo 3 young wurms alone whitout help.
Not to be a **** here, but that is 220 killed mobs? at an average of a 10 minute spawn would be 2200 minutes....just a tad over 36 hours.....you did this lastnight?
That's assuming they sat and killed one, then waited for another to pop.
When I've run groups out there, we can take three at a time with charms, fearing and snaring...and lots of tanking and blasting. And as soon as we are done, we don't wait 10 minutes to wait for a pop! There's PLENTY of those mobs in the caves...
And as for the loot he mentioned, sounds about right. Although he didn't mention the wurm bile they can drop too (part of the shawl quest). And I've personally NEVER seen a spell drop off of a young. Ancients, Guardian..and the top ones deep inside the caves rarely drop them (can't recall the names of the ones in there, crystalized or something - too lazy to look it up)...
I'm a 30 druid my first time in great divide, it conned blue and i was Fm so i thought i'd kite it. I ran into a little trouble and tried to terrorize it but got the message "this spell can only be casted on animals".
I believe Shardwurms are misclassed as animals. I tried fear-kiting one last night with snare followed by panic animal and got the message that Panic animal only works against animals...
Are the animal fear spells effective against the shard wurms? Panic Animal and the like? Curious, as it would make doing this a bit safer for us rangers and I haven't tried going after any of them yet. Didn't want to make an accidental suicide run...
necros are good at other things then fear kitting, to tell you the truth i dont even fear kite that much. i usally just dark, run, venom, run, nuke, run, send in pet so i keep aggro and let me pet work on his back, then stop and nuke when he is a good distance away, repeat if desired invoke fear cost around a 100 mana, most of the time i would rather get in a nuke for that much
i got a shardwurm fang off of one of these guys last night. it looks like a tooth and has no stats. is magic/lore/no drop. if anyone knows what's up with it plz reply, thanks.
Friend and I tried taking on a second one of these... and after our only pet went *poof*, and we were having to stay a lil closer to it, I noticed THIS one was a caster. Our first seemed to only melee and wasn't a problem. However, this one WAS - I found myself being nuked with a "wrath" spell, think I got rooted too in there somewhere, and as the Wurms HP hit lower I noticed a heal spell going off on it... Unfortunately I wasn't close enough to see any possible casting emote text.
these are like 29-34,and XTREMELY hard for their lvl,i do enjoy killing them for loot and screenshots, they resist magic very much ANd and have ALOT o' hp.they dont get into 100's just very high 90's but they hit reeeal fast
One came up behind me while i was /telling. Hit me for 77dmg then casts this velium shard spell that did about 150dmg. There was no time in between hit and cast, like it was a nasty *** proc from a medium lvl mob. I didnt have time to try to fight it out with it so i dusted it in a foot race. It was blue to my 33 druid. That is an awful lot of dmg to be putting out in a short amount of time, not to mention the fact that alot of these mobs gate when low on hp's.
Are these really as low as 25? I sat near the entrance to the Wyrm cave (at level 24) and they all con'd red to me. If there were some yellows I could've gotten some exp.
Around the mountain at the back where the river exits ... back there are alot of YOUNG Shardwurms... that's the key. Yound ones. They con'd blue to me at 35, but the group I was with wanted bigger game.
I'll go back and see how well I can solo these guys. If I can, I'll let ya know.
EVERYTHING over in Velious hits hard though. Even the courgars when you first land and get off the boat, they hit hard. So don't think this is anything like "back home". Its not...
