Been soloing these critters for the bile for the 5th Coldain Shawl, at 55 and a pally I cast My MR spell so it was 102, the spells seldomly got through. The spells that did breech the protection however hit for no more then 300 which i could heal straight back. never been hit harder so maybe they have been nerfed.

Good Luck too all!!!

Fear and poke thier puckers till they beg for a reacharound! They have some nasty named 3rd cousins that feel a little funny about curious elves wielding Pinatas and Turkey Jerkey!

The wurms resisted 100% percent of the time when I tried to cast Avalanche on them. Perhaps it could land sooner or later, but you're better off with fire spells which usually land for the full amount.

I'm a 46 Shaman and my Blast of Poison spell has never been resisted .... however it's much easier to Slow them DoT them and let pet waste them .... it takes a little longer but it gives you med time and puts on a nice show

I had an elder cast wrath on me, 205dd. An ancient cast some ice spell, 150dd. Obviously, some cast.

There are definately some casters. I ended up trying to take on a cleric elder shardwurm. It cast smite and wrath on me. It healed itself over and over. And for some odd reason, snare would not take hold. It wasn't resisted, the message was your spell did not take hold. Root worked fine.
RE: cast
# Jun 04 2002 at 8:23 AM Rating: Decent
The really nasty spell these critters cast is gate. I'm guessing your wurm got snared and then gated away from the person. Either that or it got snared at a spot in the caves with bad pathing.

Thanks to verant and the new smarter casting NPCs, a shardwurm hit me for 898dd - You have been struck down by the judgements of the gods. WAtch out for the casters.
BS !

This is complete BS ! Shardwurms should NOT be able to cast Judgement of the gods, that is a 54 level Cleric DD. WTF Verant ?

Caster balance my A$$ ! That's flat out cheating !

I was soloing these today with my 41 bard and doing great. About a half dozen of them went down with no issue, but that last one... *shudder*... he nuked me into next week. What's the deal here? Has anyone else had a problem with this? Do they all cast and had I just been out of range with the others? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

All this fuss :) Find yourself a Bard friend (since they're more fun than Necros or SKs ;)) and fear kite these fellows to your heart's content.

ive hunted these guys with a necro, and i was a 40th lvl ranger necro was 39, we took many of them they seem to be clerics with either procs or wizard based spells, i have been hit with a 500dmg dd, and i have been wrathed, and also have been picked up in the air and slamed down to my death i dont quite remember what that spell was, that was against a ancient shard, it may have procs or it may just be a hybrid of many classes, but first thing always remember is SNARE!!! these things like to fly away, with the necro fearing me snaring we took out alot of them, they will hurt you, exspecialy when they double attacke for 120 in the back when your hauling *** to Thurg, but all the loot we got was celetrial healing, bile, eye, claws, and a wizard inferno spell, wasnt sure on the name, these wurms are so fun to hunt!!! just think 2 ppl taking out some dragon like creature, at about 40s, it gives ya, satifaction from taking out something that big, just like the first time you kill a giant,TIMBERRRRR, you get that really happy feeling that you just took out something, 20x your size, well thats what i have to say and always remember to have FUN!!!!!

For the fifth Shawl quest. You can see a glow under the wurms if they are carrying it.

wurm HP
# Nov 12 2001 at 9:26 PM Rating: Decent
from my observation the warrior type (cold based shards of ice spell only) has about 2800 HP (takes about 7 400 HP dots to kill). The cleric version has less HP (approx 1800) but starts healing itself at half health, has a nasty magic based DD and gates at the end. Nearly impossible to solo at lvl 43.

Yup, just tried to solo one and it cast wrath twice on me and healed itself.
Wow - I must suck

As a 46 Shaman I Pulled on of these with Targars. It immediately hit me for 15 (Claw) and 130 (Cold).

Dropped a Venom of the Snake on it after channeling through a double hit (67, 12). Pet was taunting.

Cast Scourge which immeditately resulted in a double hit (71, 15) followed by another (67,72).

I moved off since I was at 60% health after 45 seconds.

Pet gained aggro and I cast Venom of the snake again.

By this time pet was dead even though it had Altuna and Chloroplast.

Decided to zone into Thurgadin.

Oh Health of MOB at time of zoning after pet melee and 3 DOTS?

70%

Fighting
# Feb 09 2001 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
This creature appears to be just the normal warrior class with a cold proccing direct damage spell that didn't seem too bad. They seemed to move at about rhino speed to me, but I was keeping them constantly ensnared, so I'm not sure. It has never hit me for more than 80, which is not too bad, but they do have a healthy dose of hitpoints. The Coldain don't seem to want to help, but I don't know about the giants.

YES THEY ARE CLERICS CAN SAY i HAVE WITNESSED THEM HEALING THEMSELVES UP AND I WAS KILLED BY A WRATH SPELL FROM ONE OF THESE
RE: These Beasts are clerics
# May 04 2001 at 6:45 PM Rating: Default
Well... let's go through the healing classes, because that's exactly what it did.

Cleric - Likely. One appeared to have ghealed itself several times in a fight until we got wise and started nuking it down. Wrath is a level 29 cleric spell and it definitely used wrath on me.

Shaman - Definitely not. Wrath isn't a shaman spell.

Druid - Definitely not. Wrath isn't a druid spell.

Logic dictates that this is indeed a cleric. Go talk to one if you don't believe me :P

Never saw an elder shardwurm who healed himself, but I can confirm that some of the ancients are defenetly clerics (usually the lowest lvl are clerics (all ancients who conned green to me (47 dru) where clerics and very rarely the clerics conned blue), but I can't confirm that some elder are clerics as well.

Only fought these once, I do know, once you get deep in the cave, if you get two, you are bound to see a complete heal from the bigger ones eventually. That really, really sucks.
Yep...

Min Lvl to high?

These were conning blue to me at 39. Fought about 7 or 8 so far, with nothing higher than blues. So the min level should be dropped to 38?

Had a group last night hunting these, 1 lvl 30 Pal, 1 lvl 30 Cleric, 1 lvl 31 Ench, 1 Lvl 33 Rang, 1 lvl 35 Dru, 1 lv 36 Dru. Conned Red to the 30's and 31, Yellow and blue to 35, same for the 36, so the level range seems to be right.
