Also spawning during the War

If you are doing the coldain quest know that when the coldains attack the fort, Firbrand the Black spawn before the fight and he wears his hammer.

My technic was (everytime i saw somebody doing the quest) to charm firbrand the black when the coldains engage the oracles, firbrand will follow you like a good pet outside of the fort war.

And on this spawn, each time ! you will find :

1)2 Dark Embers
or
2)2 Gauntlets of the Black
or
3)Dark Ember + Gauntlets of the Black

So if you see two times the same item...better take one, run like a madman to PoK, put it in the Lore Bank and come back to loot the second.

I managed to do it many times with selo's...don't
know if it's possible without though.

But the other Firbrand Spawn (non war spawn) only drop the hammer when you see him wearing it and never 2 items at the same time.

Firbrand that spawns during the War does not give hunter credit for the kill. For hunter credit you have to kill the regular Firbrand whose PH is the blacksmith. /bugged Feb 15 2019.

I camped the fort with a 51 Cleric and a 30-something ranger. I'm a 51 Druid. We took the whole fort twice, almost 3 times, and this guy NEVER popped. Have they changed the spawn times or ph?

The Real Deal
# Apr 22 2002 at 5:03 AM Rating: Excellent
Hi All, I went from 35-43 just at the fort and killed Firebrand about, oh, 32 times (I am in no way joking). Here is info to base an attack, camp, farm on.

Blacksmith of Rygorr- levels 34-37
Has common loot for RyGorr CENTS, no rare loot.
This npc is the PLACE holder for Firebrand, they can not, and do not spawn togeather, most of the time people see Firebrand and some emmesary or messenger and get confused. I have been present at these times :)
Kill him to empty spawn, Firebrand spawn about 20% of the time.

Firebrand the Black- Levels 35-38, average level is 37
Hits about as hard a cent with only slightly more hp
If a level 40 of almost any class(mind you, solo) can pull him with out training he is quite easy to take out.
Drops Dark Ember about 20% of the time, always has either Gloves or Ember, never with out loot. I have never EVER seen doubles of loot on him, such as 2 Embers, 2 Gloves or BOTH at the same time.
The hardest part is pulling with out training, which is why people always assume druid camp because of harmoney, but if another group, or your own, is clearing out fort then he is a snap.

Just take the camp slow and learn the terrian first and you will be fine.

If you can kill a cent you can kill him, period.

I recently killed em and he had the ember and the guantlets :). This is still an ok place for xp into the upper 40s.

PS-Same poster as above

For those of you worried about the Ellite that spawns in same room he does ROAM from that room, to chief room, to out side front door. This is where harmoney can play a big help.
Trick- I have waited for him to walk outside a few times and then blasted him, training him over to the dwarven camp near by. No ellite, no ellite problem.

Easy

ok,this guy is really easy for a druid of 39 or above. all you have to do is go invis, get him on your target,go out of the fort, follow the fort around the right side, use harmony 2 times on him. that should be enough to harmony everything around him. snare him, hell show up wherever you are standing, dot,dd,root, repeat. easy

Thanks for a GREAT idea, works like a charm i have done it several times now. Be careful though one time harmony did stick to the Elite or he wandered in right after the second cast cause i had to make a run for it.

Firbrand and his Brother the Blacksmith of Ry'Gorr
# Dec 04 2001 at 7:35 PM Rating: Excellent
Aloha all and well met -

In my travels across velious I have come upon these two brothers: The Blacksmith of Ry'Gorr and his elusive twin Firbrand. Both have taken residence in the Eastern room of the Ry'Gorr Fortress for the time being, outfitting the local orcs there with all sorts of Velium weapons.

Sadly, however, in my 20 or so levels in this zone, I have never seen the two on track at the same time. I thought something to be amiss - so I went to investigate. Gathering friends, we cleared the fortress of all the orcs, including the Blacksmith and set our watches. About 30 minutes had passed, and the Smith popped, I suppose to make more weapons for all the new orcs. Over the next several weeks, we hunted the orcs of the fort, and when the Blacksmith did not show, his brother Firbrand was there.

We found the spawn rate for Firbrand to be about 1 in 6. This translated to a set of Gauntlets of the Black about every 3 hours. Sometimes, Firbrand did not have the Gauntlets; rather he would have the item called the Dark Ember. It was clear to us when he had this, for he would be weilding this large club in his hand, and it would cause significantly more damage to our party. He seemed to have the Dark Ember about 1 in every 8 times (Thus estimate about 1 per day; or 1 in 48 chance; 2% spawn.) Please note that these are estimates, and that Firbrand has popped twice in a row, both times with the Dark Ember, making the two young clerics in my guild giddy with joy for their new weapon :-)

Take care when fighting him with his club. Sadly, once, our friendly druid cast a DOT spell on him, and Firbrand turned to run and died -- 60 feet in the air at the top of the tree. Make sure your killing blow allows thee to acess the corpse.

We found the Dark Ember's price to have fallen over the last 6 months, from a high of over 3,000pp to a current selling price of around 1,500pp. I anticipate that the price will continue to drop, but will not fall below 1,000 because it is a lovely weapon for Wisdom Casters.

I hope that this information finds you well, in good health my friends.
Solo

Yo could a 44 bard solo this mob?
And are there any additional spawns in the room?

Yes, and yes.

A 44 bard can solo firebrand. That's the easy part. The hard part is getting the elite guards off of him/away from him.

My technique is to clear out the direct line to him by picking off singles or by charming doubles. Then when it is just him and the elite left I charm the elite and sick it on Firebrand. When charm breaks get out of the fort and keep the elite charmed until Firebrand drops. If you're lucky the elite will be under half when he kills Firebrand so you won't have much of a time finishing him off.

PS Stay away from the Oracle if you're taking a shot at Firebrand. Nasty outcome there.
Hp
# Oct 10 2001 at 10:03 PM Rating: Default
how much hp does this guy have and how tough is he?
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 14 2001 at 6:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok. To make this easier, I believe that the attack is triggered by LoS ( Line of Sight ), if you invis, highlight him, run outside of the building and snare, he'll port out from the building ( due to getting stuck of course ) and NOT pull the others. Although I'm 56 I did this sort of thing when 42. Give it a try, might suprise you how many things ACTUALLY attack LoS.

Give this a try and you could very well end up as dead as Julius Caesar.

Having attempted the technique four times now, the Elites port out along with Firby every time. And they appear to be pretty unhappy about it.

For every new expansion you will see prices drop :( one thing Verant forgot to take into mind is the EQ economy. <shrug>

MMORPG's are still a fairly new type of game. They will work things like this out over time, as new games are released.

The best way to find the Rygorr fort from GD is to head to the end of the ravine(sp?) and head directly SouthEast. When you use sense heading..get as close to East as you can without heading east..head southeast..Hope that made sense. It'll lead you almost right to it. Now..from IC..just head directly straight out from the bridge..you'll run right into it. Just look for the smokestack and you'll see it from both directions ;) I hope I helped..

Don't even bother trying to correct them.
# May 08 2001 at 1:27 PM Rating: Default
Some people will never get it through their thick heads that all mobs have a level range. They always pop on the boards and post Level is wrong! when we all know that almost every mob in the game has a level range that is usually 3 - 5 levels.

No amount of posts will correct them as they post it again and again regardless of the correction presented to them.

I think what the previous posters were getting at was that they conned him outside the *range* listed above. Like people saying he was blue to a 35th obviously means his minimum level must be below the listed 36.
Dark Ember
# Apr 26 2001 at 1:27 PM Rating: Default
I found that this character and his PH is very easy to solo. I am a 51 Druid on te Prexus server. Thouhg I have yet to get my Dark Ember yet, am still working on gettign it.
I found that for me the best way to solo this guy with out causeing a agro with in the fort is to go inside the fort but not inside the actual housing there, go behind and hug the wall right behind the room there in the court yard where he spawns. I hide and keep checking my track, but he is a 30 minute spawn. But I keep tracking anyway cause I cannot see him since I am outside in the court yard. but once him or his place holder the blacksmith spawn I invis myself go inside and target him, come all the way back out harmonize from outside then snare him, he comes out so I just root and dot him and he dies... way easy =) But I wish the dude would drop the Ember. I have killed him it feels like 20 times and no spawn with the ember, always the Gaunts.
