Did this fine with my 56 Shaman and a 47 Warrior with very average gear (around 1000 AC and 3000 hp buffed).

Malosi and Turgurs landed first time and then the warrior just tanked. No regen and no heals needed and the warrior was on 50% at the end (shammy took the HT).

He resisted two Bane of Nife, and I didn't bother after that.

The only awkward bit was pulling him to the zone line which I just did by invising up to him, hitting him and running back to the zone. When you zone out he stays where he is, and all the darkies path back to their spawn points. I think I had to do it 3 times to get him alone at the zone.

Fun with a Rogue

I "Duoed" this guy with my level 36 Shammy friend (Someone had to cheer me on) :)

To spawn him I had to sneak inside the castle and kill the advisor, once he died black Dire spawned.
The fight with black dire was fun, Ended up seing all my Discs. THe best part was when he started running away the level 36 Shammy landed a slow on him. Was a fun time :)

Took around 40 tries(zoning in and out) but a 44 enchanter and 54 ranger duoed Black Dire. There is a mob named Eirod Haerod in the zone, she is level 30, hits for 145+ and has mana drain proc(with lots of hp). We found Eirod at zone in and didnt think once to do this...enchanter put rune VI up and tashanied then zoned immediately, went back in charmed her and she killed the dire wolf while ranger used bow. We pulled the wolf to zoneline first because he takes a long time to walk away. BTW charm broke 2-3 times so be ready to be summoned and hit by both her AND the Black Dire. Goodluck with this =)
got these at lvl 5

I have read all these post and will tell you all this, I got the boots for my Shammy when he was lvl 5, and had alot of pissed off Shammy in my guild. Thats right lvl 5, and here is how you do it.
Zone in invis and head to his spawn point, if he not up go kill Advisor and the 3 chicks he hangs with in that room. Invis back up and head back to Black Dire spawn point. Pull him to zone and zone out. wait 2 min and zone back in, only mob you will see is Black Dire, he will stay at zone line for a little while before pathing back. After zoning back in, wax him. Did it with my lvl 51 Warrior and a lvl 53 Shammy friend. Logged to Shammy and looted. Headed to RM did the piddly crap there, headed tp FP then OOT, then to NK, then we were off to EJ, did turn-in in EJ and got killed about 4 seconds after I got the Boots, Shammy friend gated out we met back up in EF and I had my clicky sparkle boots. But they do not work till LVL 9. was mad so I had to go out and kill some bears for an hour and get lvl 9.

Zoned into MM today to find a 52 shammie there at the ZO, with this guy sat rooted..trying to solo him I guess. So decided to help out a lil..debuffs didn't last long on him at all...so had to keep recasting. Other than that, mezd till we were ready, both brought pets up...kept him rooted. No problems at all in taking him down. Think I lost about 100hp when i had to get aggro to have my pet join in. Didn't resist a single spell of mine once tash'd.

Arrelar - 52nd Enchanter, Order of the Raven's Tear, belonging to Tholuxe Paells.
What kind of group could take him?

We have a 53 War, 52 Mage, and 50 Shammy. Do you think that we would be able to kill the Black Dire?
Got him
# Jul 15 2003 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
Wiped out the yard trash, the blood wolves, then cleared out the castle and advisor. Blood wolves can be single pulled if BD isn't there, if you you use a range/spell attack and don't get too close. Found Black Dire by himself at the spawn point, and took him out with a 58 Paladin, 50 Druid, and 44 Shaman. Black Dire resisted every shaman spell thrown at him, so only good for healing. The Druid nuked for about 9% of BD's life each cast, and the Paladin didn't have too much trouble tanking and keeping aggro. Got a few adds during the fight (blood wolves popping again) and so the Paladin was at 40 health when BD died.
Soloable at 61...I think
# Jun 10 2003 at 9:28 AM Rating: Decent
Did Black Dire yesterday. Had a 60 druid and a 60 shammie. I fought my way to his spawn site easily - shammie pet had no troubles killing everything on the way to Black Dire. Cleared MOBs around the spawn-site and druid pulled Black Dire without agroing his Blood Wolf guardians. The druid's root stuck nicely after malosini (it didn't stick very long before Black Dire had been malosini'ed). Black Dire killed shammie pet easily eventhough he was slowed. Black Dire resisted all poison DOTs, so druid killed him with his magic based DOTs.
All-in-all I think that Black Dire would be easily soloable for a 61 shammie and his/her pet.
It took around 15 minutes from zone-in to Black Dires death.

I wanted to get the Shaman Epic boots for my wife's 41 Barbarian shaman. I went to Mistmoore and saw that the Black Dire was up. I buffed up, summoned a pet and cleared the ledge outside the Mistmoore entrance. I told my wife to get there fast and wait invisible for me at the ZI once she got there. I cast Invoke Fear on the wolf on the front left corner. He started running and so did the Black Dire. I started for the zone, shouting warnings as I went. I got to the zone and a group of 20's to 30's was standing there and got hit by the huge train I was pulling. I FD and then seeing that they were dieing, stood up to help. Only the Blood Wolf was there, no sign of the Black Dire...this was my only mistake. The Black Dire was on his way, he was currently busy killing my pet DOH! I was fearing green mobs to help out the lowbies, when the Black Dire attacked me and killed me. I had a little over 1000 hit points and he hit for 145 and fast. One of the lowbies rezzed me and then we preped and killed the Black Dire. The lowbies grouped with my wife and I was on my own. My pet was MA, with my wife playing primary healer. Mr. Bojangles (my pet) never got below 60% health. I fired off some spells: Insidious Retrogression, BOD, Drain Soul and Ignite blood were the only ones which would stick. I outdamaged the lowbies and got the kill. Two minutes later, my wife looted the fur. The only reason I died is because the lowbies didn't take my warnings and move away from the zone and then I tried to help them... He never hit for above 145 or harmtouched. Overall, he was about as hard to kill as a Forest Giant Ancient from Burning Woods. Me (49 Necromancer) and wife (41 Shaman) could have taken him easily.

Your original pet probably took his harm touch, and therefore made the ensuing fight a little easier.

Learned something important, when you agro him, you do not agro the ones around it. Put if pet attacks when he attacks, then the ones around will get aggroed, so if you have a group, have them wait in next room, and leave pet at home. Then, when he attacks, pull back and your ready to kill him. My group did not understand and they agroed all of them....
Easier than he seems

This guy is a wuss if you keep him in control. All you need is you the shaman(51 at the time) and a 53+(I had 53 necro friend) of just about any type. You can pull the Black Dire solo if the Blood Wolves con light blue or lower to the puller. Let the 53+ pull, you the shaman togor's or turgur's, then Incapacitate or Cripple, then Malise, Root, and Dot/DD while pet beats on it. If you are lower level, you may need to malise first. The Black Dire will never land a hit for more than 160 with the strength debuff.

You can go pretty low, but you definitely need a tank of some sort.

My MT was 44 Pally, had a similar level mage with air pet. And dogdog of course. A lower level druid spam-healed the pally (also harmony of nature before I pulled) while I slowed and debuffed resists. Pally never went below 75 health, fight went very smoothly.

On the other hand, I don't think I had a single cold-based nuke land for full damage, and never got EBolt to stick, this time or the times I unsuccessfully tried soloing, regardless of malosi.

But all in all he died, shammy got happy.

I am a 39 rogue, i was on a raid on mistmoore with a 46 or 46 ranger 54pally 45 pally 45 druid 37 warrior and a 46 shammy, after we decided to leave a group that tried it had gotten killed, it was at the zone alrdy. we started off with the 54 pally using his 28/30 sword hitting for the 100's mark then i just BS'd it for around 180-200 every time. i got aggro on some. it double attacked for 200, never HT'd or lifetapped. after it had gotten the 54 pally to around 40% health(had alrdy used LoH) he said we should zone. but we hung in and killed it.was fairly good xp for me and started the Shammy off on her epic

Kill the guards first
# Sep 16 2002 at 5:38 AM Rating: Decent
Kill the guards first. They don't agro as you kill them one at a time and they go down quick. Then head in for a quick kill on the advisor. Black Dire spawns and your free to kill him in the pit. My group couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about, it was an easy kill.

So, how did it go? Inquiring minds want to know! How many groups should I take for this?
My experience
# Oct 02 2002 at 4:24 PM Rating: Excellent
I took one group. The Enchanter got killed, but no one else did. The druid Harmonized the Blood Wolves and pulled the Black Dire. Tough fight, but nothing one 45-50ish group can't handle.

He hits for 200 (sometimes double), but didn't life tap.
Suggestion for pulling Black Dire
# Jul 14 2002 at 3:32 PM Rating: Decent
When I was doing this part of my epic, I found a necromancer that was willing to trying killing the black dire, since it was up. His pet died after a bit and I had to gate because of aggro, and was bound far away. the necro trained BD to the zone.

Some time later I was still looking for help, and a level 60 shaman aggreed to help me. When he zoned in he said the black dire was right at the zone line(Note: A while after being trained). By the time I got there the black dire was taking it's last steps trying to run away. The shaman had killed it, with the help of a 30ish shadowknight :) I got my sow boots after all.

Currently, at level 44 I have almost all of my epic completed. I am at the part where I have to hand the icon to that high scale kirn guy in the hole. Gonna be trying to get a raid going soon. My guild isn't ready for that kinda raid I'm afraid, so I may have to try making it an open raid maybe? Dunno, I'm sorta new to the high level raiding situations :(

Not sure if this information is exact, and it is likewise off topic, but I'll reply with it anyway. A recently was perusing the EQDruids site, (http://eqdruids.com) and looking at the Epic Section. At the top of the page there are lines that mention that you cannot start nor do the final turn in of epic pieces until lvl 51. This may only be for druids but the text appeared general. I figure that it would be good to hold off on doing ANY turn-ins until lvl 51.

This is just a word of caution on the matter of epics. (My guild did have a druid who attempted a turn in at lvl 34ish and he was denied and lost the pieces he already had). Again though, I am not 100% sure if this applies to all classes or just the druids, but it's better to err on the side of caution.

The eqdruids.com guide is definitely wrong. My wife's Druid got her epic at 47. The final turn-in was last night, and no problems.

I don't know if that's true for the Shaman epic, though.

Actually, on Bertox yesterday I was in Rivervale, and I saw a level 50 epic'ed druid. I don't know if the rules have changed as to what level druids can complete their epic, but I conned him just to see if it was a bug and he was dark blue to me at 51.

*shrug*

edit: I realized that he may have been 51, completed his epic, but just lost his level, but who knows. ;)

Actually, I have done the shaman epic straight up to the part where you kill ghiosk(sp?) in city of mist and turn in the three books to the spirit without a problem. Shamans dont have to be 51+ to do the epic, just 46+ to get into plane of fear for the iksar child tear. I'm restarting my shaman though as an iksar. Getting help from my guild this time and I hope to have the boots at an early level =D
Easy Kill With Group of 4
# Jul 09 2002 at 3:41 PM Rating: Decent
We went to MM today to scout it out for an upcoming Black Dire raid. The group that came was a 53 Shaman, 52 Shaman, 55 Cleric and my 52 Warrior as main tank. I'm a druid and got us all there and when I hit track inside the zone Black Dire was up. This changed it from a scouting party to a lets see if we can kill this mob party. After seeing it on track I got my warrior on and we got all buffed up. The four of us easily cleared the way there with me tanking along with the Shamans pets for support tanks for trash clearing.
We cleared all the way up there and only left the four blood wolfes and Black Dire standing. I went in and arrowed the closest blood wolf to try to clear them out first, but Black Dire came with the lone blood wolf. We concentrated on Black Dire with the shamans slowing the mobs. Our cleric in the whole fight got only down to 70 mana at the end of the fight. The shamans Ebolt was resisted, but their frost spell was able to stick. Black Dire will turn and run when low on health also so be prepared to snare or root if you dont like to chase him. We fought BD just down from his spawn sight and then went on to kill the other wolfes for exp. So if you have four of the right people this is an easy mob to take down. Our 52 shaman Banudorm now is wearing his new boots thanks to BD. 8)

Chaotic Winds did a raid on MM castle last night to kill Black Dire for the next part of my epic. We had 14 people there 30+ including a 56 necro, 54 shaman(me), 52 enchanter, 45 warrior and a 52 druid friend of mine who helped get us there. We fought our way in and then pulled Black Dire. The plan was for me to pull him using Malosi and have the enchanter AE mez the other wolves if they added. His spell went off before mine tho and he mezzed all but black dire. Dont know if he got HT'ed but I got Malosi and Turgur's off but he went down quick, which was good in a way cause he cleared aggro from the mez that way. I led Black Dire to the party and we took him down easy ( we had to kill the advisor first to spawn him). Despite what has been said I landed 8 Ice Strikes on him for full damage ( 645 ) and had no resists. Went down in about 1 minute, I looted the pelt. Only deaths were enchanter and druid friend who went LD as the battle started. Could have been done easy by just one group but glad we had the guild there. We then raided most of the rest of MM castle and got some nice items for the 30 crowd. There are no DE faction hits here, and positive faction hits include League of Antonican bards and Ring of Scale and a few others Ive never heard of. Further in there can be some horrific pulls and having one or more people who can AE nuke, mez and stun is a must. Thanks everyone and especially Decivious ( chanter and guild leader ) for the help.

Black Dire spawn time?
# Jun 17 2002 at 4:27 PM Rating: Default
The information about Black Dire spawn time here is wrong. I waited for him for 5 hours straight tonight and he did not pop.

Since I was soloing, I wouldn't risk going after the advisor with the many adds in the castle.
