There are 5 HPs for the Sarnak Courier, 4 of them will be north of the Windmill, 1 will be in the vast area west of the windmill to the Sarnak Fort. They can all pop Sarnak Couriers. There can be multiple up at once. I had a total of 3 up at one point. If you have a tracker just kill any of the mobs named in the list of PHs above. I imagine if you are after this guy you are looking for the IvA ring. It is rare.. Like... 1/100 rare. I have hunted it for hours killing countless Couriers and have only gotten the ring maybe 4 times.

I have farmed this ring 3 times before all on tracking characters. This view take is from a non-tracking character, for reference I am a lvl 47 DE Enchanter. With not having track there is no way I could do the "Cycle", so opted to simply kill all the PH's that I could find. I added in the Sarnak Flunkie for good measure and just ran around killing every PH in any order. I was pretty successful with getting the Courier to spawn, I would say he popped around every 15 minutes for me. sometimes the PH's would be scarce and I would wait in upwards of a good hour before seeing the Courier spawn.

There were times where the even PH's were popping very scarcely, in this instance I would kill one or two of the most common mobs that were up and it seemed to start the spawn over. In the end I had approx. 14 hours and about 50 to 60 kills (I lost count of actual kills some where around 42).

I think the biggest issue with a non-tracking class is the constant feeling that a courier has popped but you don't know where to find him. I will also add that when i attempted to mass kill everything, i don't remember seeing the courier pop even once. It was very important to kill the PH's and only the PH's, except if the PH's were scarce then I would change it up and kill a few here and there.

Do I recommend doing this with out a tracking class? No, but its doable, the biggest issue I had is when other lower lvl characters were trying to XP and killing everything. This seemed to throw off the spawns, of course it could have also been my inpatients as well. I know this isn't a very technical posting but I question the "Cycle" as I seemed to have the same spawn rate as I did with tracking characters.

Currently playing on Aradune and can confirm it still drops.

The sarnak flunkie is one of the placeholders. What makes it confusing is sarnak crypt raiders spawn from the sarnak flunkies near the explorer tower, between the windmill and the pillars, between the windmill and the sarnak fort and between the sarnak fort and the goblin tunnels there is only one flunkie that belongs to the spawn cycles that spawn the courier. There are 4 cycles out here the courier can spawn from and you will go mad trying to run all 4 alone. Not all flunkies are for the sarnak courier cycles.

This is hard to describe since I went back to LOIO to see where the areas are that the sarnak courier can spawn in. I am still looking for a Goblin Crusher as a drop. I did get 2 more Gazughi rings to make a total of 3 I have gotten.

NOT Getting Courier Every 15 Min on Cycle
# Jan 30 2019 at 10:13 PM Rating: Excellent

I've run this cycle for two hours and I've killed everything on it EXCEPT a courier. This is pretty crappy -- will update if anything changes.

Update -- after another hour, I gave up trying to run the cycle and started picking off all the mobs of the same name in the cycle -- if the same name popped when killing off the next name in the list, I'd run over and kill it. For instance, while hunting down all the skirmishers, when I killed on, a brawler popped as I'd already wiped out all the brawlers, I ran over, killed the brawler and then moved on to killing skirmishers again provided another brawler didn't pop. I tried starting with the cats, but, learned they'll respawn before they can all be wiped out. Moved to the next mob available mob in the list on Track, a goblin brawler, wiped all them out, moved to a gobling skirmisher, then moved on the greater scalebones, wiped all those out and as I was going to work on greater skeletons, Courier popped -- and I was REALLY close to his location. Killed it and thankfully got the hand.

YMMV but this worked a lot better for me.

ALLA -- if you guy read this, you may want to change some of this. I never saw A Greater Scalebone or A Greater Skeleton -- only greater scalebone and greater skeleton and those seemed to work fine for the rotation. Also, the a sarnak courrier -- no upper case -- was the one that dropped the quest item.

# Mar 01 2015 at 5:08 PM Rating: Decent
Just spent 4 days camping this little bugger

I killed "a sarnak courier", no capital in the name just a regular courier for the millionth time and he dropped it. He didnt glow or anything but it was during the day so cant confirm if he glows at night or not but he didnt during the day. and yes the cycle is:

A Goblin Brawler
A Sabertooth Cat
A Greater Scalebone
A Sarnak Youth
A Goblin Skirmisher
A Greater Skeleton
a sarnak courier
a iksar brigand
a iksar marauder
and some times a sabretooth tigress pops up as well, anything else is not part of the cycle.

the mobs would pop between the windmill and ruins and sometimes on the first mountain area next to the windmill.

No one is ever in the zone anymore so the only thing being killed were the mobs i was knocking off, i suggest not killing anything but these PHs because it can mess with your tracking. I was killing a courier every 10 minutes or less sometimes it would go to 20-30 minutes but only a few times.

80 courriers later, 30 hours real life time... Over a period of 2 weeks

Here is thee fastest way, i had very bad luck...

1. DO NOT MASS AOE
The reason is simple, it takes to long to run, the mobs walk to slow, and not all mobs are kos. Trust me when i say if your doing this camp as one person, your wasting your time.

2. The biggest FAIL on this will be:
The time it takes you to run to the mob, and the fact that if you dont track fast enough your courrier will die to the goblins.

3. The previously posted MOB CYCLES are in fact correct

4. FIRST SETTING YOUR CAMP. CYCLE NUMBER 1..
Upon entering the zone be sure your track filters are set to update automatically. Generally speaking, a newly spawned mob should be first on your track. At this point you should find a placeholder, but! Find and kill the others, not the tigress. I only say this because the tigress shares spawns with other mob cycles. I can tell you for near certainty that if a .Greater Skeleton. Or .Greater Scalebone. Its guaranteed to be the right mob cycle.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: only kill 1 mob at a time until you verify your on the right mob cycle. This will become more important once we start our 2nd cycle! Mob respawns are 2seconds or so, but can take up to 10seconds. Also if your newly spawned mob is not the placeholder than you now know your killing the wrong mobs, find another POTENTIAL placeholder and try again.

Now that you have been killing and just verified your on the right mob cycle...... Your cycle should be first on track....
5. LETS START CYCLE NUMBER 2
Scroll throu track and follow the same steps as in number 4. If uour doing this right...... Then the first cycle should be the mob that is now number 2 on track. And since you just killed and verified that your on the right mob cycle for cycle number 2, then this mob should be first on track

##### it should be important to note that sometimes things will randomly come up on track as a new mob. In this area the sarnaks and goblins are KOS, so occassionally the will kill each other and spawn a new mob.

##### Yes, there is a spawn cycle out further in the mountainous area, but is it worth your time? Probably not. Like i said, the biggest problem is not how long it takes to kill the mob but how long it takes to run to them.

6. ALWAYS KILL THE SECOND MOB ON TRACK IF YOUR DOING 2 CYCLES
because there is a delay in the spawns...about 2 mostly, but sometimes up to 10 seconds. This means you can hurry up and the kill the next mob, before the one you just killed respawns.... BUT.. AND LET ME STRESS THIS: if you blindly track to your next target its possible that the courrier will spawn, and subsequently die at the hands of the goblin.

So, once you have aquired and begun to track your current target, IMMEDIATELY Hit track again.... It will not interupt your current track..... This way, if a courrier does spawn, you can stop what your doing and go kill courrier before its too late.

##### all in total, i lost probably 6 courriers to the goblins.....and to be honest, i think one of them had the ring at courrier#42, but because goblin killed it, Ill never know.

7. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, DONT EVEN TRY TO DO 3 or more CYCLES
The mobs spawn and die too fast, by the time your running to the second mob the first is already respawning. Your just going to delay how fast you can you can kill the first two cycles. Im a max running level 90 bard

###### if i had to do this ring again, which i wouldnt..... I would do it this way. Log on like 6 accounts around level 20 so mobs will attack you and then have them all use mercenaries and then camp them all at the usual spawning places. Doing this camp you will come to know them by memory. Basically wipe out the entire area and sit with your tracker for a courrier to spawn, this way you can at least semi afk and watch tv or something.

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST GRUELING CAMPS I HAVE DONE.
simple because its intense to constantly be tracking, then retracking then killing. Ugggh

1 COURRIER EVERY 15 MINUTES IS A JOKE.
while there have been periods where one will spawn after another, or i will get a courrier every 10 minutes for a while.... There had also been many 1 hour periods where no courrier popped at al...... I put the average more at about 1 every 30 minutes.

I tried for 2 hours with just my lvl 20 monk trying to get this guy to spawn north of the windmill area, but gave up and got out my 67 ranger the next day. It took me about 15 minutes of constantly killing everything in the field to finally see a courier on tracking. He was walking near the four pillars near the buildings with the goblins in it... I was worried about those goblins killing my courier so I kept those houses cleared out also. That's a ridiculously hard guy to get to spawn. But I guess the longer we play, the more to Sony we pay...

It does still drop. (4-11-09) Not sure how many hours, but after about 150 couriers. Finally!

I had better luck getting courier pops with my druid(tracking)than mass killing with my enchanter. There are 2 cycles that range from just south of the mountains about even with the windmill to almost the river by FV zone. You can keep them both going at once. There is also another cycle that covers a range from the windmill to the sarnak fort. My druid tracking doesn't extend far enough sometimes, especially on the southmost cycle.

Mobs in the cycle:

a sabretooth cat
a sabretooth tigress
a goblin brawler
a goblin skirmisher
greater scalebone
greater skeleton
an Iksar marauder
an Iksar brigand
a Sarnak youth
a Sarnak flukie
a Sarnak courier

cycle on courier
# Aug 05 2003 at 1:48 PM Rating: Excellent
here is the list of mobs with exact spelling that i found on the cycle:

a sabretooth cat
a sabretooth tigress (rarely, and lots of tigresses around that are not on the cycle)
a goblin brawler
a goblin skirmisher
greater scalebone
greater skeleton
an Iksar marauder
an Iksar brigand
a Sarnak youth
a Sarnak flukie
a Sarnak courier

hope it helps

you need to keep killing the newest (up on the list with "normal" sorting) spawns that match these and you will get a courier every 15 mins or so.

after 7 hours of camping (and about 30 or 40 courier kills) i finally got my Goblin Gazughi Ring)

He also dropped this ring earlier:
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=1654

hint: stay between the ruins and the windmill, if a cat or marauder appears on track and is not in the near vicinity, it is not from your cycle.

on another note: after a while, i noticed a 2nd goblin skirmisher on track, and killed both, after that i had 2 cycles running (for much quicker killing), looks like there is more than 1 slot on that cycle there.

This is a GREAT post I followed it to a T, and I am getting 2 - 3 courier about every 15 minutes. I have killed 20 of these and no ring yet, I am logging for tonight but starting tomorrow.

P.S. Do exacly what Samm says it works much better than mass killing, I mass killed and got about 1 currior every 30 minutes.

EDIT after a couple days of farming this, a total of about 6 - 8 hours, I finally got it. It ended up being a total of 45 - 50 killed to get the ring. BTW there is 2 spawn cycles. Oh and for those that can't wait the 10 seconds to kill it, the Courier glows if it drops the ring.

Well, the cycle is pretty good, but it fails at times. After camping this ring for 3 days with my bard I discovered that ANY sabertooth and ANY skeleton can be a place holder. There were times when killing the PH's mentioned above started spawning Sabertooth Tigers, and at night would spawn Lesser-type Skeletons. Time of the EQ day had something to do with what spawned, Sabertooths during the day, and leaning more towards Lesser-type Skeletons at night. So, if the PH's your tracking start getting replaced by skeletons or sabertooths, run around and kill all the cats, then kill all the skeletons, and you'll see a bunch of the mobs in Samm's post start re-appearing on track. I suspect the Goblin Battlemasters, and Iksar Manslayers occasionally get into the spawn cycle as well. The Couriers do seem to spawn more often after the mobs Samm named in his post, but everything moving is part of the spawn cycle. I suspect Couriers are just tabled into the spawn cycle of everything moving, and are more likely to appear during the EQ night, though they can pop anytime. At one point I had 5 couriers spawn one right after another in the space of about 10 minutes, then went 2 hours with nothing. I think what confuses the issue is that there are two or more spawn tables on the cycle, kill a mob from spawn table #1, and a new mob is resurrected from table #2 if its daytime, or table #3 if its nighttime. Kill that mob and you get a spawn from table #4 or table #1, etc. And of course the Sarnak Courier is only on two of those tables... Very rare on the daytime table that he appears on, and a bit less rare on the nighttime table. (Although that rareity during the day may be because I ignored some of the daytime spawns, like Sarnak Conscripts and Goblin Battlemasters.) But what I'm driving at is he only pops after the mobs Samm named because those mobs trigger a new selection from a table that includes the Courier as well as several other mobs, like lesser skeletons or Sabertooth tigers, then you have to kill those spawns, and what spawns right after them to get back to the table that contains the Sarnak Courier.

In short your best bet is to kill everything Sammigaile named first, but as those options start to dwindle, kill everything moving to get as many shots at the courier as possible. In particular, kill any Sabertooth Tigers or Tigresses, or anything skeletal. I've got the ring to drop twice now, both times it dropped the Courier who dropped it spawned near the glowing pillars by the zone wall. A friend got the GG ring drop near the Sarnak Fort (though he wasn't trying for it, just in the right place at the right time).

This cycle description is perfect! I followed it exactly and got as many as 4 cycles going at one time where I had couriers spawn back to back within a minute. After 10 hours of camping I finally got my ring today. I used my bard tracking to look for the mobs and easily killed them off with a little melee and one dot using Thunderous Drums of Karana. Best Christmas present to myself in EQ ever!!

I would suggest for anyone else doing this cycle to clear the goblin ruins near the shore periodically so that they don't kill the courier when it spawns near them. I lost several couriers to the goblins in the ruins. Also, I damaged any roaming goblins like aggressors to near death. That way, because they were low on HPs, they would run away from me when near and would not agro any courier spawns.

The cycle is indeed very good, but I just wanted to comment that I found many of the mobs, and indeed the courier too, north of the windmill and very few of them in between the ruins. It saves quite a bit of time instead of waiting for him to wander into that valley. Hope this helps somebody.

*Major correction on that*

Thought he meant the "undead ruins" which just so happened to be labeled on my map, didn't realize that he meant the line of statues to the north of the windmill, that is definitely the best spot to do it.

Ok, here are some facts/tips/info on obtaining the Goblin ring the Courier drops.

-=HUNTING GROUND=-
Varies - Generally the hunting ground for all the PH's and the Sarnak Courier is between the Windmill and just past the Goblin ruins.
If you go pass the River mouth (Newbie area) near the zone to FV you've got too far. Those mobs are normal spawns and are not PH's.

-=WHAT ARE THE PLACE HOLDERS(PH)?=-
The place holders are 95% of the time one of these MOB's.
A Goblin Brawler
A Sabretooth Cat
A Greater Scalbone
A Sarnak Youth
A Sarnak Flukie
A Goblin Skirmisher
Greater Skeleton
A Sarnak Courier
...all in no particular order.
Once a PH or courier is killed, another will instantly (3 second delay) pop in its place somewhere in-between windmill and Goblin ruins kinda near the river mouth to FV.
NOTE: Sometimes the cycle gets glitched where nothing appears on track. This happeneds from time to time but its easy to fix. At this point kill the top 7 things on track to restart cycle.
NOTE PART TWO: It IS possible to see 2 to 3 (rumors of 4) place holders up at the same time. that means you have 4 chances of spawning the Courier at once.

-=I SEE THE COURIER=-
Great, you'll probably see 10 or more of him during the course of your stay. The Goblin Ring is his RARE drop and its not uncommon to see 30 Courier's killed with no ring. Expect a 2-5 hour camp of doing nothing but killing left and right.
You will know you have the right Courier when he is illuminated with a Greater Lightstone around him. At this point celebrate as your wacking/nuking away cause your hard earned time hasn't been wasted.

-=RUMORS AND MYTHS=-
-"1800pp? for this ring? isn't that hight?" No, thats actually low. The Goblin ring can be worth to as much as 5K - 10K depending on the server. Charm classes like Necros, Chanters, Bards and Druids use this ring to "Break charm" in a hurry to prevent death so they can kill it themselves. Worth its weight in gold when in the hands of someone that knows how to use it.

-"The Courier is nerfed. I've killed XX Couriers and not one ring has dropped" Relax! - he still drops the ring. Its VERY rare so expect a long camp.

-"Can a non-tracking class try to get the ring?" You can try, but without Track its next to impossible to find the next PH spawn in a time-friendly manner. Not recommened unless your a Ranger/Druid/Bard.

-"The PH spawn is broken. Haven't seen one PH spawn in a long time!" The Courier cycle is glitchy at times. Going on a killing spree sometimes jumpstarts the cycle back into full swing.

Good luck to everyone who is going to camp this. its a long and tedious camp but well worth it in the right hands.

The post by LimeCherry is wonderful. It took me about 6 hours but I finally got the ring. As of December 11,2005 it does still drop and this post works perfectly.

I do want to add this, Iksars, all of them in the area described above appeared to be in the cycle too. Marauders were the most common to pop, but also saw a couple others.

Bring a tracker and this is just a time sink. There is no "if" to it. When you do the above descibed method all you need is time to get your ring. I frequently would get 10 couriers every 30-45 minutes.

The ring did not drop for hours, but eventually right when I was about to give up for the evening there it was. Thanks Lime!

This strategy works perfectly, got the courier to pop twice within half an hour tonight. However, noticed one oversight, several times I noticed that "an Iksar marauder" popped in the middle of the PH chain, and the chain continued after it was killed every time. So add "an Iksar marauder" to the list of placeholders for this mob ;)

This method works. Period. I've done the shackle quests twice now (My first Shackle of Tynnonium had to be turned in to get my Whistling Fists) and both times I've used this method.

A tip. Hang out around the ruins, near the windmill. The big huge ones with the long line of pillars. When you find a named up, kill it. If you're a tracker, have track sort in Normal mode. Normal mode sorts by how "old" the mob is, or how long since it's spawned. New spawns pop up on top of the list.

So kill the PH and hit track. Memorize the top 4 mobs, and when track repops, hit it again. Whichever mob is new on/near the top is probably another PH. I originall fought everything ground-zero the first time for 2 hours. Once I got this method and had my bard tracking for it, I got it in 25 minutes.

About to do it for the 2nd time.

Good luck!

I tried the cycle as listed above once before and thought it was broken. I was finding multiple mobs - in the direction of Cabilis so I gave up.

While camping the Chancellor (for key to Charasis), I noticed one of the cycle on track, so I started it again. I can absolutely confirm that this system worked on this date. Within 20 minutes I kille dtwo couriers (shouted for monks to loot the left hand). I haven't had a ring yet (which is what I want), but I am sure its only a matter of time now.

I was helping a monkey friend of mine with this one. Basically just sat near the water close to mill while he slaughtered anything that moved. Then he said something about checking my track for these following creatures:
A Goblin Brawler
A Sabertooth Cat
A Greater Scalebone
A Sarnak Youth
A Goblin Skirmisher
A Greater Skeleton
*A Sarnak Courier*

As soon as I saw one on track, I would run to it, he would kill and right after he looted I hit track. As soon as track refreshed, I clicked it again to find ONE of the above mobs towards the top of the track screen. We did this for a good 15 mobs until finally I had the Sarnak Courier on track. Hope this helps!! GL!

Good day!!!
I've been in LOIO for awhile, Soloing, getting goblin bracers, etc... (I love this zone!!!) and for fun ,and karma, I've been helping some monks look for this ******. Every time I've helped a monkie, We've never been able to get him to spawn. I was informed of a cycle that was involved and saw it posted here (in case you missed it, here ya go http://pub35.ezboard.com/fmonklybusiness43508frm2.showMessage?topicID=1014.topic ). If he is in fact on a cycle this seems to be logical as I've seen plenty of the PH's up around Cab, but only one of them at a time between the lake and the mill, but everytime we went through a cycle another random mob on the same cycle list popped (I hope that made sense). In the time I've been here I have seen this puke one time (yesterday actually). He was walking across the ruins starting on the side closest to FV and continuing towards the goblin ruins. I snagged him before any other mobs might get 'em, then shouted to any monks in the area. Luckily there was a monk in the area so his loot wasn't left to rot. And on a side note, karma does pay off sooner or later. I recieved 25plat and some nice buffs just for icing this guy (thanks Skydd Smiley: grin). Sorry for the rambling, and I hope this makes sense.

i had the courier spawn rite in front of the explorer tower, then he proceded to walk rite towards the entrance to the tower i killed him just before he got near this place fearing they would kill him before me ,it spawned at 3:00 am
it maybe timed and probably gets killed so fast that it makes him a rare spawn,i went on the fact that this mob is only 14th lvl makes sense it would spawn near the newbie area more then over near the mill where there higher lvl,but who knowscould be random area spawn, dropped the hand first time too
How to spawn the Courier
