Fiery Orb
# Jul 27 2004 at 11:33 PM Rating: Decent
I tracked "A Lava Walker" to the volcano just North of BW entrance. He seemed to be in the lava, so I left him for about half an hour. He was still there after that time. So I dove in and found him. But he was in the form of a Chromodrac. Didn't dispell me, but cast Boiling Blood on me.
Dropped a "Fiery Orb". LORE ITEM, NO DROP. Wgt:0.1
Not sure what this is for. Had the image of a Carnelian.

Next 2 Lava Walkers that popped were wanderers near the volcano, and were both Wyverns.

Not sure if this Chromadrac version is a rare one, but can't see that others have mentioned it, and the Fiery Orb is not listed on this site yet.

Perhaps pathing put it into the volcano and it couldn't get out on it's own. Wasn't motivated for that much investigating at the time.

I tracked Lave Walker to the volcano, and in the past I have killed him as a wyvern, but this time it was in Chromadrac from. Dropped the Fiery Orb.
Also drops Girdle of Karana...:)

The lava walker can also drop the level 56 druid spell Girdle of Karana...just scribed it for my fianceƩ...:)
Not that hard

I had very little trouble killing this guy at lvl 51 with 60m still had 15m or so when I was done. Did him once at 40m but it took a bit longer because of all of his root breaking. I just snared, rooted, then dotted with Drifting Death and ES Vams. Took 2 snares with 60m and 3 with 40m.
Also dropped this spell

killed him tonight, im a rough and tough druid tho, hehe i snared him and jsut ran backwards free dotting with es vambs, and smacking him with breath of karana repeatedly, i had c3, and at FM i have roughly 3400 mana.. he died after a little bit and dropped spirit of the scale... i was highly disapointed :p
Not a mob for druids who solo
# Jun 15 2002 at 3:48 PM Rating: Good
I wouldn't suggest trying to solo this as a druid, the little bugger kept breaking root on me. Now I have a necklace with unlimited clickable roots (Warden Symbol of Tunare) so it isn't a big problem when a mob breaks root. But this guy did not let me have a second of med time, I was oom soloing him and no spells at all, not bad xp, conned blue at 53 so I must have had the 52 incarnation of him because no other mobs in Skyfire seem to be that hard.

So for the solo druid, watch out for this guy, stick with the regular mobs in there.

# Jun 27 2002 at 2:40 AM Rating: Decent
Just an addition to my first post, some of the incarnations of these guys seem to hold my root for quite some time, of the dozen or so I have killed, about 3 or 4 of them were easy to hold down with my root spell. Also for any druids that prefer to solo, I suggest doing the series of Tunare necklace quests that start out in Felwithe. Your final reward is a necklace that has clickable grasping roots (it might be your first root spell but unlimited charges rocks), I haven't taken it off since I got it.

Well thats my 2pp for now
RE: Not a mob for druids who solo
# Jul 15 2002 at 5:25 PM Rating: Good
Maybe the problem is precisely the root you are using, grasping root only have 1 min duration max and at least in my experience breaks more often than higher lvl roots. I soloed this guy today using engorging roots, lvl 56 spell, sure it uses much more mana than grasping roots, specially if yours are free, and sure it can break at anytime as grasping roots do, but i find it tends to break less so it usually lasts longer, allowing me to med up.

I know lot of people say using higher lvl roots is a waste of mana and recommend to use the lvl 5 one, but that havent work for me, low lvl roots lasts only 1 min max and break more often, at least in my experience. Beside, your dots only do full damage if the mob is rooted or feared, if it is walking, not matter if it is snared, dots wont do full damage. Winged Death and free dot from ES vambs both have a 1 min duration, so using your low lvl root you would NEVER get full damage from your dots, cuz you must cast root first and it will ALWAYS break before than dots (it lasts 1 min max, and that is if you are very very lucky). Using my high lvl root I have the chance to hold mobs in place up to 3 mins, and that allows me to get at least 2 full damage cycles from my dots. This saves me mana for 2 reasons, first I cast less dots to kill the mob, second it allows me to med up and recover mana, cuz I dont have to stand to recast root every min. Another benefit is I kill the mob faster this way, saving me time to med up for the next fight.

If you are unlucky, engorging roots will break every time before dots fade or you will get lot of resists, and only then you will use more mana this way, but that have happened to me only 1 or 2 times.

I killed this mob using engorging roots, finished fight with only 10 mana (200 wis at lvl 56 plus some mana gear) and I used free dots from ES vams that I stack with winged death, certainly its not an easy mob, but is doable with engorging roots.

Umm, mobs now take full damage from DoTs, whether they're moving towards you, away from you, rooted, snared, whatever...movement direction and target has no effect on DoT damage anymore.
Lvl is indeed wrong.
# May 01 2002 at 12:28 AM Rating: Decent
Lvl is very wrong, I was in Skyfire last night trying to track down Eldrig, and basically just scoping the place out. This lava walker dude conned even to me at 50. Anywho, juz my two cents again. ;)
splurt kite
# Apr 28 2002 at 10:55 PM Rating: Decent
the best way to solo this bugger as a necro is to have sow or jboots pull with splurt and let pet aggro him after you pull to your pet then snare with dooming dark fear after dark he will reaggro you. EB once the first time lich and med ..now it gets trickey.fear will wear off let him chase you cack to your camp spot when you see splurtr wear off then you got about 45 sec b4 snare does when you see EB wear off you better resnare or else...after you refear just use splurt and BoD keep resnareing after fear wears off every 2 times and after a LONG fight youll win he has about 10k hp and drops MOST of the kunark spells except the 59+ones- Jarlax Ghoulslayer 54nec ayonae roe

This fellow was nice to me yesterday he dropped a Wizard spell Manasink Lvl 58, and a Mark of Karn Cleric lvl 56 spell. Not hard to kill about 6 Winged deaths and he was lying at my feet.
Rooting
# Apr 03 2002 at 4:58 PM Rating: Decent
Just a suggestion, when root dotting, use your first root spell (level 5). You should only be using your latest root spell when your going for DD. You'll have to root more often (about every 30 or so seconds) but you'll save tons of mana in the long run, and it makes resists/breaks hurt a little less. With this method, you can usually keep something rooted indefinately as you regen the mana used pretty quick.
Rooting INSANITY

22 TIMES this thing either resisted or broke out of Engorging Roots, the level 56 Druid root spell. I'm sorry, but that is total BULL****.

# Jun 20 2002 at 10:54 PM Rating: Decent
I've been using the lvl 24 ensnaring roots spell since I got it,lvl 54 now. More often than not fights usually go like this. snare, root, winged death,es vambs. When WD wears, I recast it and es vambs and then reroot. I found that if I don't reroot, within 15secs of that 54sec dot(WD) the root will break. Yes it does ocasionally break early, but mana cost is way less than the higher lvl druid roots and seems to last a lot longer

I always have Harmshield loaded in case of emergencies, like a summoning.

If you get summoned just hit Harmshield and run, often I loose aggro and he returns to my pet.
And I must say that Jboots and DMF are very valuable here

Summoning
# Jan 14 2002 at 11:49 AM Rating: Decent
I've got to agree with the poster regarding summons. I have been hunting solo in Skyfire for quite some time and have never been summoned. Either something was changed or I am incredibly lucky.

Spells seem to drop in no particular pattern, but I seem to have the best luck with Old Wurms and Elder Wyverns.

<note> This obviously does not include Guardian Wurms or big daddy Talandor.

I usually leave the Cromodracs alone as they have a bad habit of dispelling which can quickly become a death sentance to the solo druid.

Tough

This mob has a lotta HP, also breaks root very often. Fun to use when charmed cause he owns all the other mobs in melee, but he has a little trouble standing up to a wandering wurm. Only thing that would own him is Jannus, AW, GW, Talendor.
RE: Tough
# Apr 25 2002 at 3:01 AM Rating: Decent
Aye This mob is tough, roughly 12,000 HP, but that it breaks root that much I wouldn't say so, maybe 6 times it broke my engulfing roots, but other than that it went down pretty smoothly like other named mobs, exept lvl 60 mobs and that Bard epic mob.

i have killed these more times than i can remember, and have never been summoned once.

best loot to date from one was mark of karn.
the reason they are so hard to kill is that they have insane regen, nothing like dain of course but alot more then my regrowth.

simple really, pull with breath of karana, root, cast winged death and drifting death (fire DOT will be resisted) and sit med rinse - repeat.

These are not easy. Id bet you $100 everyone of these you killed, didnt drop a spell. Ive learned that when the named mobs in SF have a spell on them, they usually summon like mad. For reasons unknown to me. More than likely level difference.

Good solo tactics for the NON summoning ones...
# Aug 01 2001 at 10:31 AM Rating: Good
Well, thus far, at level 52, I have soloed 2 of these near the BW zone line. I suppose that I lucked out and neither where summoners. I am not sure if this was a fluke, but if you find one that dosn't summon, they are easy!! The two that I killed never seemed to aggro on my pet. Completely ignored him. All I had to do was make sure that darkness never wore off and the rest was cake. Just feared him out, when he got far out, let fear run out and just reeled him back in and feared again. It took a really long time but it was absolutly simple. Neither I or my pet took even a single damage from him. The only damage that I took was from lich making sure I had enough mana to finish this beast.

And, no, I have not seen any that con even to me at 52, yet. I am sure if I got a summoning one, I'd get my **** handed to me though. :)

Did a beatdown on one of these tonight,, conned even to both 52 tanks. Didnt summon any of the casters, if it did summon one of the tanks no biggie cuz thats where they wanna be. Had good magic resistance even tarshaned..The book talks of 4 dragons and "breathing life into their husks". This concept I remember form some quest but I cant put my finger on it.

Soloed one at 52 aswell.

pulled with splurt, dragged to pet, landed cascading darkness, invoke fear, envenomed bolt, plague, and Bond of death.

Sat, and memmed dooming darkness instead, and then just cast fear/dooming.

Juicing him up at first, brought him down really quickly, the last 1/3 was a bit slower.

When I posted that, I was 52, I dinged 53 and updated my profile, tardo! :p

Anyways.... yes I did solo a lava walker... 2 times in fact. If you read, I probably got lucky because neithr of them ever summoned me. They must have been level 48-50. I never took a point of damage besides from lich and my pet was left untouched.

Try it some time if you don't believe me. Keep gate up and get ready to book outa there if you get one that summons.. otherwise it's really pretty easy. Just takes forever. Anyways, just because I am better than you and can solo somthing you can't solo dosn't mean I am lieing! *big grin*
