Is this galoot using up a spot that could be spawning one more of the ever-popular seafuries?
Level 45 ?

Sooo... we've all talked about it... what lvl is he really? Well, at lvl 40 he conned red to me whereas he was blue (not even light blue) to my dear save-*** lvl 55 fighting partner! Just thought I'd let yall know :-)

I'm a 51 magi that killed him easily, not so rare spawn and always drops an alluring horn for bards. Use your mana on the seafuries instead.
Quag

This guy is easily soloable for a 52nd level Necromancer.

I tagged him with a level 1 lifetap (5 points of low agro) to pull him quickly and to ensure that Quag would pay more attention to my pet than to me.

I then pulled Quag across the short expanse of water to AC island (you can’t fear kite on Seafury island, too many adds). Jboots and Dead Man Floating (running over water is faster than swimming through it) ensured that I arrived ahead of Quag and had a few moments to wait. During this time I cast Lich to increase my mana regen rate.

Quag popped out of the water and stopped at my pet (the pet did more damage than my measly 5 point lifetap). Since this was my first attempt on Quag I went a bit DoT heavy and threw Dooming Darkness (faster cast and lower mana cost than cascading), Invoke Fear, EB, Splurt, and BoD.

During the fight fear broke early so I had to reapply it twice (the first was resisted, but the second hit). I also had to reapply EB when it wore off.

During the time Quag wasn’t feared he attempted to cast a spell (must be this mana tap people have mentioned), but I never felt its effects. I can only assume that my pet was its target or my pet kept interrupting his casting.

No bards were in the zone so the horn rotted.

51 mage can strict chain cast earth pets until he is dead. Took him down and only used a total of maybe 40m. Sometimes only takes 20m, after medding during the fight.

49 Earth & 51 Earth is big difference. I even tried 49 with Shovel of Ponz and gated when he was down to 10%hp...so I assume with a bit of luck he could be done with 49 but 51 is much better.

My method of pull may differ but as I get bored with Seafury he is an exciting change. Not to mention the fact that I get tired of worrying if he is going to sneak up on me while Im medding if I leave him alive to wander the island.

Step 1. Have full mana, full buffed 51 Earth pet (BO3, and Lava Shield, wearing a fine set of Summoned Plate). Have Summoned Levitate ring on and clickie clickie just before pull...you don't want this running out in the middle of pull. I use SoW potion or Jboots would be nice but I 'THINK'..I say THINK it could be done without but I haven't been brave enough to attempt it. After all...why put 1 bullet in the gun and the other 5 in your pocket. :).

Step 2. Best to pull old Quag when he is away from other Cyclops and even better if u can get him while he is on the beach watching the sunset by himself. Unlike pulling regular Cyclops ..send pet in FIRST as this will keep him occupied and he won't get as good a chance to drain you. Immedietly back peddle out OVER the water..no nukes yet..let pet take the beating and let Lava Shield do your nuke work for you.

Step 3. While out over water you should be outside his aggro range medding. When you see pet down & about to die time your 2nd pet to pop when 1st 1 dies or very soon there after. You should have time to cast Lava Shield and BO3 again before running back into the island to regain aggro. Danger here is if he wasn't rooted when 1st pet died..OR he picked up a wandering Seafury to help him out, it could get tricky. Quag should still be your target object so just keep hitting 'Pet Attack' and once Quag sees you pet will also see him... see where Im going with this ? LOL. This time back up a good bit but still in visual range..with any luck Quag will be knee deep in the water and away from future adds.

After 1st pet he should be about 70% health. When 2nd pet engages hit him with Elemental Maelstrom DOT and back up and medd. If pet is looking good and Quag is dropping well..get up and nuke, nuke, nuke. Thats end of him.

Note: sometimes you may need to repeat pet chain 1 more time but SoW and lev should keep you safe. Remember to keep 'Gate' up in case things aren't going your way.

Good Luck ..Wilee Castusmaximas 51 Mage Rodcet Nife.

49 Mage = easy solo. Like he did, just chaincast your earth pet. Hell, if you want, throw in some Lava Bolts to speed things up, but be careful with your mana.

I don't know.

I was a 50 Mage with an earth pet and Ranger (level 49) partner and he killed us both. I landed 5 LB for about 875 avg on him. This was before he took away all my mana 3 times, my MR is 72. He meleed through the earth pet, then the Ranger partner died, then another earth pet died. Then I died. He had about 20% health left.

I don't think you are telling the truth, or you have much better tactics than I do.

Edit: As of level 53 I take him pretty easy. Get magic resist gear on, and chain cast pets on him. He goes down pretty easy. I think the difference was the level 51 earth pet spell vs the level 49 earth pet spell. But yeah, easy solo at 51 I imagine.

Dunno about a 51 Mage being able to Kill him.. but 51 Shaman took him down easily.

Slow - Ebolt - Plague - Send Hasted pet in..

Repeat Ebolt x 2 and Plague x 1 = Me OOM & Quag Dead.

My lvl 24 Bard friend was v.happy to receive the horn.

As for his Mana Drain.. i was wearing my full resist gear and its never landed on me.

Quad around 45
# Sep 29 2001 at 12:56 AM Rating: Default

quad is harder than seafuries, but not really dangerous. We killed him three time with 42 necro, 46 druid, 44 paly.

We kill it with other 3 people all around 45
(indeed like 42-45)

The surprise was the mana drain which gave us trouble, but trouble is never big with tank mob,
once ensnare is on, and if the group is sowed.

Loot is useless for non bard.

He never used something else thn drain.
If i rememe\ber one of the quad never used any frain.

Now i am a 47 druid, and i m not coonsidering
that soling quad would be wise (assuming i could win (not sure) it would be mad downtime.

A previous trip in OoT netted me the Alluring Horn (Magic, Lore, NoDrop; -10% to songs I hear). I went back to take notes during the solo portions of this quest segment.

Blue to me as a 52 BRD.
Casts Mana Drain a LOT, never dented my mana, resisted 80% of the time. (I didn't use DDD.)
Does hit pretty well, IF he can catch you.
Can swim well, follows, and will return home.

I was trying to solo this fool when I stumbled too closely near the pirates and the captain added aggro. (darn, avoided the other SC's only to have that pimple beat on me.)

Run little wood elf, run! Camped while floating to clear aggro, came back, found Quag and pulled him INTO the water. Yup, on purpose. I took him over to the west so I could kite him on the red-feathered Aviaks island. All the birds left me alone as I then used Selo's Chain + 3DOTs on Quag with zero difficulty.

Got XP, felt so good I went back to his island and helped a DRU/MNK/ENC clear some 30 more SC's (counting more Quags) to get the DRU's tainted/corrupted cyclopses to spawn.

Ok...this guy has a ton of HP's...around 8k from what I counted up from damage in the chat box. However...I'm gonna say something and you can flame all you want, but it's true. At 48, I could probably solo this guy...only because of one thing...He never attacks. He just keeps hitting you with that mana drain spell over and over, even after your mana is gone..hehe. He does hit you here and there, usually for upwards to 115 or so, doubling. It just doesn't happen much, especially if he's slowed. He just has so much damn HP that it takes forever to solo him with a melee class..hehe. Basically he attacks 10-15% of the fight and mana drains the other 85-90%..It's a very simple battle with some Shaman help 8) Kidz..don't try this at home..8)

My story about this guy is an annoying one, my lvl 6 Cleric Dwarf was on boat heading over to BBM. when i suddenly died, i didnt even see it coming. Just one hit and i was dead.
I thought at first that mabey it was a spell that got me, and that he was sitting on an island and arrgoed when the boat went by, but reading some of the posts above that state hes a warrior, im starting to lean towards the swimming cyclops theory.

And while on the point, to answer the guys question above, when you die on the boat, your body will sink in the water, as soon as the body hits the Zone edge.

Lucky for me, there was a very nice player that located my corpse, and then dragged it to one of the islands for me.

The following took place 7/1/01 on Valon Zek:

Taking a cruise back to that lovely city I call home, Felwithe, I was chatting with some members of my guild and minding my own business as we tied up at the Isle of the Sisterhood of Erollisi. One of my fellows made a mention to be careful in OOT as cyclopes had "been seen swimming" lately.

My response, naturally, was "?!"

As if on cue, I begin to hear a "thud thud thud" that goes on for some time. Before the ship can make way, Up comes Quag over the gunwales to try to squeeze off my poor little lvl 16 head. Why me, I dunno...there were several other folks on board, all with last names. Quag proceeds to smack me around.

I can't even see him, but I /con him... Red. In OOT...not good.

Not wanting to go fishing for my gear (I've never died on a ship and don't want to find out if corpses stay on board if you do, though any postings in answer would be appreciated) I leapt into the water and swam for the Sisters' Isle. Blammo. Harm touch.

Writhe in agony...lose nearly all health...crawl up beach...use lay hands (thank you Tunare)...and run like a coward into the hills.

Here's where the story gets interesting...
1) Quag did not kill me
2) The sisters and the smith didn't lift a finger to help...what DO they do if not act as guards for nice elves like me?
3) He was fully aggroed on me (from the lay hands?) and did not beat down any of the other PCs I tried to train him onto (no, I'm not nice, but at least I'm an incompetent jerk and am alive)

Here's how I unbleievably made my escape. I ran and realized that ol' one-eye is slow. Being on an island, that didn't stay as reassuring as it seemed when I first recognized it, but I've never met a MOB that I could easily outrun without a SOW. I zigged and zagged long enough to get such a lead that I could actually SIT AND CAMP...and the sisters' isle is not big...

So here are my questions:
1) How did this turkey come to go walkabout? Is he GM controlled at any time?
2) Why was he so slow? Even Sand Giants aren't this pokey...they always wreck me if they catch me far from a zone.
3) Why wouldn't he swing at anybody else? I never hit him, I just healed myself. If I help out a poor high level char in future, could the mob attacking him conceivably spin on me and teach me how to be eaten quickly?
4) How, if the monster was not GM controlled (I have to believe that's the case...chasing down a lvl 16 paladin on a ship and chasing him until you lose him is a little to cruelly malicious a type of fun - even for Verant), did an NPC mob get so far behind me on an ISLAND that it took more time for him to track me down than for me to camp? I've escaped PKs with similar tactics, but never a mob.

(Sigh)...and I'm not making this up.

Any thoughts on what was really going on here would be appreciated.

It's very simple, someone accidentally pulled him and ran him over to the AC island where they snared him and ran far enough away to camp. I have seen many cyclopses in the water but usually only because someone pulle them off the island. Once in the water they sometimes get on the pathing that the boat travels. That is why he was so readily available to give you a nice whack or too. That is also why he was so slow, he was still snared. Trust me when I say this guy is not slow. I killed him today(50th iksar necro) but only because I got jumped by him. It took a very long time to kill him off for a soloing necro and when he resisted my darkness spells I had to run him into the deap water to slow him down enough to apply a root so I had enough time to try and dark again. He tried to cast the mana drain on me only 3 times because the majority of the time I made sure he was too far away from me to cast. I would say he is a bit harder to kill off than the tainted seafury.

Yesterday we met this guy on the Seafury Island. We got him down pretty easily, being with a lvl 44 Cleric (me), lvl 45 Wizard, lvl 42 Warrior, lvl 45 Rogue and lvl 51 Necromancer.

He conned even to the Rogue and the Wizard, so he has to be lvl 45. We didn't know what the Horn was for, and neither did anyone in my guild or in the zone know. In any case, the Warrior confirmed the Cyclops was playing songs, but I noticed little of this.

I was medding right under his nose as the Warrior and the Rogue were hitting it, but I never saw my mana drain, or see any other Bard Song take effect on me.

Yesterday I was letting my fire pet solo seafurbies for easy xp when a 55 bard came flying by kiting Quag. Every minute he would kite by me again. Apparently Quag ended up kicking his butt and he was roaming around the island. I didn't feel very safe pulling seafuries so I medded to 80% mana and pulled him with Malise, sent Fire pet, cast Malisement, and chain summoned the 49 earth pet 4 times casting BO3 and Shield of Lava on each one. I killed him when I was at about 15-20% mana, took about 4 minutes but I never got hit, and I resisted all(I think 10) manadrains. He was blue to me at 50, I think he is level 45, hits for 117 max(on Fire and Earth pets), and he has quite a bit of hitpoints. This is the toughest mob I've soloed so far for sure, but I usually kills massive amounts of low blues for better xp. Kept the horn as a keepsake(its all/all and you can hold it in your hands).
What to expect.
# Dec 18 2000 at 4:17 PM Rating: Default
I recently went to get the horn from him for the bard epic quest. He's generally on the Seafury Cyclops island around -6000, 1000. He conned red to me at 42 and he casts drain mana a lot, (which curiously did not appear to lower my bardic mana bar at all). I was able to land a lot of Chants of Flame and Curtailing Chants so his fire/magic resistances may not be that high. He didn't hit me all that much, but if memory serves he was hitting me for around 100 or 120 per shot.

He's generally seen wielding this odd weapon which looks like a thin tree trunk skewering the alluring horn he carries, which tends to make him stand out from the others. There are a good number of cyclopses on the small island, so pulling Quag alone isn't easy. But sometimes he stomps over to the shore by himself (to look in the water I guess). I don't know if he spawns all the time, or if you have to trigger his spawn by talking to the disgruntled elf at the BB docks. I went to talk to the elf first just in case, and by the time I got to the island Quag was there, and didn't despawn over the several hours I took to gauge the island and set up my offensive.
