why the HELL would you kill him? *******.
don't waste your time killing green mobs

I did this part of Epic yesterday and i DID NOT kill anything. All you have to do is start out at the high pass zone if you arrive prior to first light game time. I sat and watched track to see when the undead would dissapear and moved close to where morins cabin is, constantly refreshing track. I believe it was roughly 7 or 8 am game time he showed up on my track filter(set it for rconsider). Made sure to refresh sow and loaded root just in case. Ran right up to him handed in the ring and the reaver popped just as advertised. I hauled ranger butt out of there and made my way backto burning woods. To clear up some of the nonesense i have seen on this thread.
No this sin't kizdaen Gix. If you have track don't even bother with Loc. Any good ranger and druid will have their tracking skill maxed out. He is a quest npc, he has no faction table anyone who has turned anything into him knows this! You go up to him hand him the ring and run. I know that some quest npc do give faction hits but even if you con dubious to him you can still do this part and not lose your item. If you did he is bugged report it simple as that. Tunare, Karana doesn't matter both type of rangers and druids do these epics, and he is an epic mob related the the epics why would it matter why?????? If he was out at night chances are he was still spawned and not killed for what ever reason and he is out during the day morning in particular is the best time to find him. His path seems to take him from the cabin with the mobs for the rogue epic down near the commlands zoneline. up to the north east. He then paths east to west perpendicular to the northern zone wall. I hope this is some help for anyone doing this part of the epic. Save yourself some time and start at level 46 with at least amiable faction.

Well it might have been absolute luck or timing, but I was scouting for him up in the middle north quadrant (after reading the great posts about his being up there...why EQDruids has him near the HP line is beyond me) and had no luck on track.

I got bored, summoned my little bear (yes, I am starting it late too [actually finally got enough patience to make Faelin spawn and got lucky enough to have her on track as soon as I got to her location ... nearly soiled myself in utter hoy, hehehe]...

I had SoE up in case of LD, etc. with wolf form, and had no problem with Gix taking the ring ... did not con him though.

Back to my original message... I had no luck on Tracking Gix *until* I started killing bixies and such out of utter boredom. Pure luck? Maybe, but what the heck else are you doing other than standing there with your finger on the Tracking button? hehehe

Actually, quite a few epics have a mob that is on some unrelated faction. I think there's one mob in Timorous Deep that is on some faction or another... I remember a druid friend complaining about having to work faction.

And all/most epic NPCs for turnins, etc are on Truespirit faction.

Not a flame by any means, just adding to the post =)
Making him pop...
# Feb 20 2003 at 2:14 AM Rating: Default
I can confirm that killing the greenies will get him to pop. I just did it, killed greenies during the day for maybe 10 minutes and there he was.
RE: Making him pop...
# Apr 06 2003 at 9:30 PM Rating: Decent
All that proves is that 10 minutes after you entered the zone he spawned. You can't tell for certain that killing greenies had anything to do with it.

I sat tracking bloodbriar in Gfay for 5-6hours one every day and she nevered pop*i DID NOT kill anything* then i killed about 20 orc's and she spawned

I found him walking in a looped path in the north-western part of the zone (a bit south of the burned-out house where the book for the Cleric Icon of the Reliant spawns) -- this was during daytime. He did not despawn when I handed Faelin's ring in but walked on, and the Tier'Dal Reaver came after me.

Who cares what level he is
# Aug 08 2002 at 10:02 AM Rating: Default
You do not kill him, you turn in the ring and flee like a ranger. He will accept the ring as long as you are dubious. He could be level 100 and it won't make any difference.

I run through Kith all the time and is always on track.

# Aug 06 2002 at 12:21 AM Rating: Decent
there seems to be a lot of posts here on faction.
i have tried approaching him with all my alts. and most are dubious-apprehensive but he did not attack. he is npc quest so dont bother killing.
just turn in the ring and run for the hills. Do not kill reaver as it messes up your faction for finishing epic. spawn time is random. i was able to spot faelin on track in Gfay quick but took almost 20 mins of chasin her to turn in note.
I guess it only fair that this guy sends a reaver after u. I detect a lil darkie/lighty love hehe

Giz X'Tin is LVL 50
# Jul 30 2002 at 9:08 AM Rating: Decent
I was able to make Giz X'Tin spawn around 7am game time. I had been sitting in the north of the zone for 2 hours waiting. I got bored and started to kill wolves. Within minutes, he spawned. I was in Wolf Form and he conned indifferent to me. He also conned even to me at 50. He is a LVL 50 MOB! The second I gave him Faelin's Ring, the Dark Elf Reaver spawned and began to beat on me. I ran off and made my way back to Burning Woods for the next steps of the Ranger Epic. I hope this helps.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 16 2002 at 12:28 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 40 LEVEL BAH I CONNED EVEN TO HIM AT LEVEL 50 SO THERE IS NO WAY HE IS LEVEL 40 AND HE HITS IN THE 130'S WITH ALOT OF HP'S.PLUS HE SOES SPAWN IN THE DAY I RAN INTO HIM AT NOON ONE DAY WHILE TRAVELING THRU KITH THOUGHT HE WAS ONE OF THE ASSASINS FROM MISTY BUT OON LEARNED DIFFERENT WHEN HE HIT.....SO BE CAREFUL OF HIM.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 29 2002 at 3:23 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was waiting in Kith by commons zone for him to spawn, kept checking track. Ran in a little, aggroed some undead, ran out to clear aggro, came right back in. There he was up on track, starting heading towards him, with ring up on the mouse, and ready to hit my sneak hotkey. BAMN, just as I see him and go to hand him the ring, he despawns, time 7am in game. It appears he is only out at night peeps.
RE: He is only out at night
# Jun 04 2002 at 3:16 AM Rating: Default
He IS NOT only out at night. When I gave him Faelin's Ring for the Epic it was broad daylight. You think I'm gonna chase his *** through Kith in the middle of the night?lol Sorry I don't like being chain HT'd that much;) He's almost always on track day or night when making the run from WC to HP.
Possible new info on Giz and the Tier'dal Reaver
# May 28 2002 at 1:01 PM Rating: Excellent
At 54th I've FINALLY got around to starting my Druid Epic (yeah-yeah I know, a bit old to be starting it) but because of that I tried something a bit different with the Reaver. I ran just far enough to snare, then killed him heh. The first thing I noticed is Giz did NOT despawn. He was up during the entire fight and was still up after. I've not seen any messages actually saying he despawns, but quite a few hint at it. Perhaps both he and the Reaver do despawn if whomever turned in the ring zones, or perhaps Giz simply did despawn before, but a patch has since changed that.

When I entered Kith, Giz was not up and I had to wait about 2 and a half hours before he did spawn, so sorry no new info on his spawn rate. Going by suggestions on other posts I went into wolf form and spent the time ducking undead at night, killing an occasional one, and generally going on a bixie slaughterfest during the day (they just don't have the sense to leave a medding druid be-oh well, the half-pint guards should love me now). He did spawn near 1050 800 as mentioned earlier by... ummm... Anon(man that guy/gal posts here a lot :P) and started wandering. Ring out, in the trade window, one finger over 'Trade', another finger over RUN, both hit at the same time, WHACK, WHACK!!! As mentioned before if you don't get hit it's not because you're cleaver or quick, it's because you've just received all the good luck since this quest started and his only two misses to date just whizzed past your ears. Being at full mana, I thought I'd try him. Heh I could always zone if need be. He did resist my first ensnare, but the second landed and a later 'refresh' landed fine. I started with Winged Death (and only cast 2 total), Breath of Ro (only cast 1 total), and then switched to Drifting Death to conserve mana (total of 7 during the fight). Add in 13 hits of 16 casts of Engulfing roots, do the math and this guy has about 10k hp. Yeah, yeah I know, 'what about my clickable dot armor?', well, I don't have any yet :P so if you do he'd be much easier for you. A few notes on the reaver; all my resists on my roots came back to back to back (all my bad luck in on clump). All others landed so I don't think he resists often. Nine of those roots didn't last long, one lasted close to a minute and the other three actually allowed me to get at least two back to back dots on him. He did not resist a single dot. The reaver went down and gave decent experience (although not great considering how long it took), but gave no faction hits and dropped absolutely nothing including coin. What suprised me was during the entire fight Giz was still wandering around and was still there afterward. After finishing the reaver I even tracked him and he still conned indiff to me in wolf form. What this tells me is multiple Druids and Rangers could do this part at the same time with a hunting party for the reaver. I don't know if it's possible to turn in a second ring while the reaver is chasing someone else, but I'd be hesitant to try that. Best of luck and good hunting my fellow tree huggers!

I have been sitting in Kith for 4 EQ days now, tracking my butt off, roaming the northern sector of the zone during the day, and near WC at night looking for Giz X'Tin for the ranger epic. Some druid and I were camping Faelin at the same time in Gfay, and we made a deal that we were going to hand in our notes at the same time so we would both get a ring. Well, he had an itchy trigger finger and handed in his first before I could even get the note out of my inventory, basically KS'd me. Then I see him in Kith after I get my ring. KS'd me again. Now I'm waiting for 3 hours now, after he handed in his ring. If I see him in EK tomorrow, I'm gonna kill him lol.

Good luck,

long wait!
You can escape with sow

Once you give Gix the ring the reaver spawns and imediately wacks you. It goes like this:

Da-duh da-dada da-daaa! WACK! (quest music then the hit)

The reaver cannot keep up with sow not like those stupid ry'gorr orcs in WL.

Considering you have to be 51, in order to recieve the the initial note from Burning Woods, Id say that is bunk///

No you donot need to be 51 to get the note I am only 47th level and I am over 1/2 way down with my epic. My guild and I did the VSR part two days ago

Yep, started mine at 46. Telin would not speak to me at 45, basically said I was too young. Gix conned red at 46, so, at least this time, he wasn't level 40.

Hmm a lvl 20 druid starting epic :/ I didn't even think you could start getting the epic quest given to you before lvl 45. And further more you don't give him a coin, you receive it for turning in the ring
HELLO

You should read all the other posts before posting people! At least 14 posts were about how Giz was a higher level than 40, so you don't have to ask any more, especially since the answers were already said that he's Level 50!!!
How to approach him
# Dec 02 2001 at 5:42 PM Rating: Good
As a 49 ranger, I approached him in wolf form and he conned indifferent. I targeted him, ran away, dropped wolf form, and he was then dubious. Seems wolf form is the way to go.
not 40, really
# Nov 26 2001 at 4:53 AM Rating: Decent
i was doing part of my epic last weekend and this guy conned yellow at 49, so hes most likely 50. tal `dreaver or whats the name of the second def who spawned was yellow too, but hit for 100 most times and had pretty nasty attack speed so watch out [i was lucky he missed backstab] i was able to zone with what i came for, but reaver stayed at zone with commons, then i heard few /shout ppl [almost] died when they zoned in kith, so im sorry;]

Is this guy KoS to a Tunare loving Wood-Elf Ranger? I need him on my epic quest, but I'm not exactly sure how to engage him... What do I do exactly?? Press sneak, duck, and then just crawl towards him and give him the ring?

Well when I was lvl 18, I was lvling in highpass fighting orcs with a full group, well the orcs overpowered us and forced us to zone well the very firt thing I saw when I zoned was Gix X'tin hits such-and-such for 106 dmg such-and-such has been slain by Gix X'tin! of course he was right in front of me so I had to zone, but then when I zone there r all the orcs, lose-lose situation which I never survived.

So who was it that finally killed you? The orcs or Giz X'Tin?

You don't need to raise faction, or charm him, SNEAK up behind him give him the ring and RUN, simple as that.
