MoY did him last night with 2 Paladins, 3 monks, 49 Cleric Thormed(me), 52 Chanter, 2 Wizzies, and a few druids as well. It went like cake after I arrived late to Rezz the victimes of a previous Kite strategy that went awry. We just did it the good old heterosexual way which worked pretty well indeed. Out of two parties there to kill him, most folks were safe spectators for the most part and there to cheer the successful completion of this for the Chanter Praktar.

Was nice to have extra support and the druids around to toss support heals for the other tanks accidentally drawing aggro. The MA did get way to half a bub of health before that CH hit him :) He knew I had him all the way of course hehe.

A 51 chanter talked me into joining his group to try to kill this guy. Let me count the things that went wrong.

Group was 51 chanter, 55 warrior, 52 pally, 58 druid, 47 cleric, and me, 53 monk.

1- 47 cleric - no Remedy (more on 47 cleric later)
2- chanter did not bind at spawn point then go do the turn in, so no one had haste
3- buffs... I had a Rune V left over from my guild's kill of VS the night before, other than that, no buffs. I presume no one else had any either.
4- 47 cleric - only 60% rez for the dead.
5 - no one bound near the camp, so when all were dead they had to wait for Nexus port back down to NK in order to start CR.

Thankfully, I am a monk and FD works most of the time, so I am willing to try things like this without worrying horribly about dieing.

Things were rushed mroe than they shoudl have been because of an electrical storm starting where the chanter lived. As it was, we got him to about half health before I had to FD with 150 HPs left. With better planning this may have gone better.

I hate it when that happens. The lack of organization in some groups leads me to beleive these guys all have middle-management jobs IRL.

When in a group, every has jobs to do. And it's not always the glory of the kill either. All tanks should be buffed, healed and Full mana prior to combat. In this case Cleric buffs + Pally buff (Divine favor) + Druid skin, str and wolfform. All casters should be claritied and sowed. No question about it. And you should all be bound close. (Gypsie camp for non-casters, and in a safer area near camp area for those who can)

In battle, your main tank is the warrior. The monk is the damage dealer (positioned at he rear for maximum damage). The pally is secondary backup healer and primary backup tank. If the cleric and druid are OOM, the pally heals (Gr heal) while they med. If the War is low on Hp, the pally needs to stun and maintain aggro until things clear up. The druid should Snare and Dot then sit and med for heals. Neither should be nuking. That's the chanter's job.

The battle should have gone something along the lines of this; Warrior pulls the mob to a safer camp with a bow(away from annoying greeny pops). Once aggro is established the mob should be snared and dotted, the monk and pally should join the battle. Monk behind the mob. Pally next to warrior. The Druid should be medding at this point while the cleric keeps everyone's health above 75% with heals. The Enchanter should be dropping DD on the mob.

End result - One dead bandit, a bunch of tired party members, med time, some faction and a no dead adventurers.

Better luck next time. I am sorry to hear you had such bad luck. They key is to have an experienced battle-commander leading the fight.

Thracken is almost 100% Magic Resistant so no nuking/slowing/snaring/DoTing ect...
BTW, I just took him down with 1 small group: 58 warrior, 54 druid, 54 cleric, 51 enchanter.

Best way is to go to camp, bind the chanter, have chanter run back to Chrislin and turn in stuff, then gate back and kick Thrackin in the teeth :)

He's not 100% magic resistant, just highly magic resistant like those oh so irritating Ry'Gorr orcs in EW. I had no trouble sticking Mala/Malosini on him and most of my DDs hit for full damage or close to it. Out of two battles I got maybe one full resist. A 60 mage/shaman can debuff just about any mob in the game. In the second battle I chain cast Scars of Sigil (after pulling with Mala and sicking pet) and never got aggro, the silly bandit kept chasing after the druid that tried to snare him. Earth pets are able to root him briefly I think the resist rules for NPC vs NPC are somewhat different than for PC vs NPC.

Be aware that you cannot use a lowbie to spawn Thrackin. Miss Baker just says something about being surprised that one so inexperienced has such items. Like the lowbie ranger didn't just go BUY the quill and parchment from Qeynos. Anyway, I had to do the turn-in myself, and gate to the spawn area. Meanwhile the tanks amused themselves by taking out the bandits that spawned using only arrows.

Our team: (levels may not be exact. Ranger or Druid may have been 44 at the time.)

55 Warrior
54 Ranger
45 Ranger
44 Cleric
48 Cleric
54 Cleric
51 Druid
45 Druid
49 Wizard
51 Enchanter

The warrior used defensive discipline. The casters just sat back and healed and zinged whenever a tank asked for it. Once Thrackin got down to about 50% health, the Wizzie called nuke time and she and the Druids hit him with cold based spells.

Thrackin conned yellow to the 55 warrior. He summoned several times. Our Wiz reported that ice comet was never fully resisted, but also never did max damage. We had three Clerics, but really could have done it with only one. She was level 44, and went out of mana toward the end of the fight. I was standing by with Rune in case it was needed, but it wasn't even close. The other Clerics basically twiddled their thumbs.
Pathetic

Killed this guy last night with about 7 people with only 3 people tanking him. Our party consisted of:

Voldeth 60 Monk
Jaynor 56 Rogue
Ravon 54 Rogue
Deeros 54 Druid
Kuldan 60 Druid
Rathil 56 Cleric
Senilea 51 Enchanter (Me)

After he aggroed on Deeros and wiped him out we beat him down within 2 mins.

Thx alot guys for helping me.

I had was a lvl 15 and entered WK with a freind to make a run to the gorge. Of course my camo failed less than a minute after casting it and within three seconds of it failing he killed me from behind then knocked my freind off (both in three hits) before either of us knew what happened.

Very dangerous mob and stay clear unless your with a group of lvl 50+ people.
How I did it...

Krozzen 53 ShadowKnight
Katonka 59 Shaman
Bryteyes 55 Druid
Ballainstalla 46 Druid
Furies 50 Cleric
Musiq 53 Bard
Sarinie 51 Pally

First, I had bound myself next to tree, where he spawns (inside a group of bandits), then the druid tracked down Chrislin Baker, I handed her the piece of parchment and a quill, and we gated back to the fight. Took about 5 minutes or less, and not one death. Hope this helps those on their quest...

54 Warrior
53 Monk
54 Cleric
53 Chanter

52 Shaman

Buffed out the wazzoo, spawned him.

Warrior tanked him with evasive discipline. At 2 bubbles of life cleric would cheal while chanter would rune.

Casters nuked with ice at 40% life.

He was a chump.
We got him too, he's not so bad.

We took down Griften yesterday with a group comprised of the following members:

54 Enchanter
53 Warrior
49 Necro and pet
58 Monk
55 Shaman and pet
53 Cleric
50 Druid
52 Ranger
52 Paladin

We were fully buffed and everyone had full mana when our Enchanter handed in the items and then gated back to his spawn site (pos 800 neg 11500). Our Enchanter knew that Griften was MR, so tried to cast Tash on him and died for her effort (she was bound nearby in case something like this happened). Afterwards, we realized that reducing his MR wouldn't have made a difference, since it was the hard hitting by our melee classes and the pets that brought him down. We recommend that the casters work in supporting roles to help the melee stay alive and fight faster, stronger, etc. until he's sufficiently hurt to avoid drawing aggro and then they can unleash DDs to finish him off. Aside from our Enchanter's instant death by his duel attack / kick combo that hit for 300 in one round, no one really got hurt and the fight was over in about one minute.

We killed him a few weeks ago after I did my test from my previous post. All it took was three people (plus my enchanter who logged out before the fight). I, 60 druid, brought only two friends, 60 shadow knight (with pet) and 59 cleric. We all had the necessary cleric, druid, and enchanter buffs ready. I then logged out my enchanter and used my druid to spawn him. When I finally pulled him to camp, the sk used her damage shield potion which stacked with my own damage shield, giving a total of 64 damage per hit taken. At first, the cleric and I could not meditate because he kept on summoning us, but soon, the sk had built up enough aggro. She used her Soul Leech discipline, which gave her a life-tap proc. In the end, the cleric had roughly 50% of his mana left. I didn't even heal much, but instead I wasted most of my mana trying to nuke him, which didn't work out very well. Nonetheless, we kicked his butt quite thoroughly.

Before this encounter, the sk had told me how her guild used to do this with three groups, and someone had to die each time. What can I say? It was an easy victory for just the three of us.

Strategy to Kill Thracken Griften
# Sep 20 2001 at 1:12 AM Rating: Good
I'm writing this to help other enchanters out there who are looking into killing Thracken Griften for their White Paper. This strategy that I will lay out not only works, but was successful the first time me and my friends tried it out, with no casualities I might add.

The strategy that me and a mage friend theorized was to chain cast pets and sick them on Thracken.

I will first lay out the entire group make-up:

Level 52 enchanter (me)
Level 51 enchanter
Level 56 mage
Level 55 mage
Level 58 necromancer
Level 57 shaman
Level 58 druid (he had his pet spell too)
Level 52 shadowknight
Level 54 ranger
Level 53 ranger
Level 53 cleric

Buffs that were truly needed were:
Clarity
Rune 5
Swift Like The Wind (on SK and rangers just in case)
Spirit of Wolf

Buffs that were helpful:
Cleric HP and AC buffs (excluding Symbol)
Pack regeneration
Any items and/or spells that could increase one's mana pool

The event was as follows:

Firstly, since I was the one to give in the Parchment and Quill to Chrislin Baker, I bound myself in the general area where Thracken would spawn (pos 800 by neg 11500 approximately). The one rule everyone needed to obey is that noone was to cast any spell or attack Thracken in any way to avoid his agro. Only pets were allowed in the fight. When everyone was buffed and full mana, I gave in the P and Q to Chrislin and Gated back to the scene. Sure enough Thracken had spawned in the general area and we sent in the pets. The key to this successful chain casting of pets was to cast the pet, send it into the fight, and press F1 twice to monitor one's own pet's health while medding at a distance. When it died, recast pet, send it in, and repeat the same process. Everyone did as they were told: noone attacked Thracken and noone casted a spell on him, therefore he never agroed on anyone except the pets. It took about 6 minutes, but Thracken eventually started to flee with the pets attacking from behind. This is when the SK and Rangers went in for the kill.

At the end of the fight, the mages reported 40 mana status, as did the necromancer and shaman. The druid only sent in 2 pets, and both enchanters (which includes me) only made 1 pet. The enchanters prefered to haste the new pets as they came in to increase damage ratio. Therefore, it was our conclusion that at least 4 pet classes are needed to pull this off. Our personal opinion is that having 5 pet classes is the optimal number to pull this off with 100% success rate. The only one who complained mockingly was the cleric who said she never had anyone to heal the whole time. We also agreed that having a couple of tanks and the cleric were a needed precautionary measure in case something went wrong. Again I must add that there were NO casualties whatsoever.

I wrote this in hopes that people abandon the 3 tank-heavy groups method and avoid unnecessary wipe-outs. The method that myself and my mage came up with is a tried and true method that worked wonders.

Thank you.

I spawned him this morning to run some tests on him before I get ready to do the actual battle. I would say that 3-4 level 60ish people can take him down.

- Dual wield + double attack = quad hit for 157 (max)
- Has two weapons in his hand, so you cannot give him a two handed weapon to nullify his ability to dual wield
- Is nearly immune to magic (resisted Stinging Swarm 2 out of 3 tries at level 60, and resisted all 100 attempts to ensnare him)
- Has fairly high fire resistance, but an FR debuff will take care of that
- Haven't tested his cold resistance since my lowest ice DD would have done enough damage to trigger his ability to summon me
- Runs at normal speed

The other day I brought a high lvl group to WK to kill this fool. I turned in to Crislin Baker a peice of parchment and a quill. I got exp and recieved a Bandit Sash. My group was waiting at the spawn point loc (880, neg11570). He did not spawn. We waited and tracked around and he was no where to be found. Then i asked a Guide to come and see what's up, so the guide came, and found no Thracken Griften in the zone. I handed in the stuff for the quest AGAIN, and same results, no spawn. WTF anyone know why? Maybe I didnt talk to Stofo Olan first? Maybe a "peice of parchment" isn't the right item? Makes no sense to me. Someone help!

Today Helped out our guild's enchanter with this guy. I am a level 52 halfling druid and he was red to me. He was KOS to everyone that we had there. Troll Shammy, Dwarven cleric, human mage, dwarven paladin, barbarian warrior, and Halfling warrior. The enchanter ran down to turn in the note to make him spawn. When he spawned, one other druid that was along, agroed him and died, we killed him. He was pretty tough. I couldn't snare him if my life depended on it... I did try casting starfire on him and it hit for 13dmg out of 612 blah. But then I tried my ice spell and it hit for full dmg 612pts. So try cold against him as he is fire and magic resistant. Good luck.

Its no worse than having Tarbul Earthstrider in East Karana or Spectres and Rotting Sentries in the Qeynos Sewers. He is rare...only spawns when someone triggers him. Guards don't bother him either (they don't bother any NPCs) the only thing I saw him aggro (other than 2 unfortunate PCs who thought they could walk around him) was a Hill Giant, whom he dispatched in 5 hits.

FYI Hill giants have between 2k - 2.5k hps. Probably would have taken longer than 5 hits to do that sorta damage, I mean, he isn't the AoW or anything hehe.
