This last fight made me a little nervous in that I was doing cleric epic with one boxed group of 5 65's: sk cle enc mag dru. Up to this point, everything was close to trivial, even the Overking in Chardok, who some say is harder than this dragon. (I agree, especially with lots of adds and his blind spell.) But this IS a "boss" dragon, after all, and he does fear and cast aoe nukes, albeit for low damage. Plus he dispells---a lot. I debated asking guild for a little help and using a small raid force. This is knowing that if we didn't win, it means starting the whole epic over cuz you don't get back any of the turn-in items. But then decided to take a shot with 5 toons because every step in the epic up to now has been easy at 65. This is on Agnarr server, the toons are partially Time geared.
Buffed up with magic and fire resists and turned on WALK. Better to be feared at walk pace.
Fight was basically trivial, took about a minute. Two of the five got feared, both with MR around 300. The other three had MR over 400 and were never feared. Did not have to cast a heal, altho I did cast Spirit of the Wood because, well what the heck, it was available. But nobody ever fell below 90% including the pets. The decision was never in doubt.
The hardest I saw him hit my 65 ranger was 315 but most of the time it was under 100. Did this with my PoP(Agnarr server) era 65 Ranger (ele/time geared), 65 Shaman (mostly Kunark era gear with a couple baz bought ornate pieces, and a 49 cleric in trash gear. Ranger never fell below 75% hp and shaman was never below 80% mana. Couldn't get Magic or disease based slow to land, even while belly casting. Cleric watched the entire fight from the sidelines. Ranger started the fight fully buffed with 9100hp and 587ac with 307 magic resist. Ranger was feared a couple times but it didnt last very long.
Hope this helps anyone hoping to do this fight for their cleric.
The second picture is of Nagafen, easily told from the indoor cave he's being fought in. Just because they look the same, doesn't mean you can flip-flop pictures of 'em!
Killed him today with relative ease with a 57 Cleric and 55 Mage both with warrior mercs. Dropped the cleric epic piece, as well as the boots, greaves and helm. I guess I was expecting an epic showdown, but we took care of him pretty calmly with only casting a few group heals. His fear spell was annoying, but that was about it. It was tougher to collect the dang https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=17246 lol. Either way, my friend and I had a blast taking him down and finishing the Cleric Epic 1.0!
Level 90 SK, Westa Terrabelle of the guild Daybringers on the Xegony server soloed this mob tonight for my completed epic. Thank you Westa!!! yeahyeahyeah---not a big deal with today's equipment/levels/AA's/stuff---but it was big for me. :D
Dropped 3 Blazing Vambraces and the Impure Head. I would like to add that Blazing Vambraces are a useful drop because, when equipped, you can give your target a DS (which is unusual, as most items are self-buffing only).
Easily duoed by a 65 ranger / 65 cleric combo in midrange bazaar gear. Both toons had about 200 fire resist and every single fire AE bounced off both of them. Ranger got feared twice, no big deal. Fight took about three minutes, straight melee with ranger tanking. Max hit was 315 (no defensive AAs yet). Probably would've taken much less time if the cleric tanked and the ranger trueshotted him. Dropped greaves and two helms, plus the heart of course.
Load up on all the junk buffs you can if you're doing this with minimal manpower. I think I had six on my toons, all of which were gone and then some by the end of the fight.
Agree with others, the Overking was much tougher, not only to kill outright but to pull by himself. Ragefire isn't a gimme, but if you take care of the Overking -- or get an MQ of the scroll -- you're over the hump.
It may not sound like a big deal to get a cleric 1.0 done at this stage of EQ's life, but it was a longtime goal of mine. :)
i've been on a few Ragefire raids, but last night my guild took down Ragefire with a 70 warrior, 65 shammy, 63 cleric, 64 sk, and a 65 bard. nobody dropped below 80% and only two got feared, and only once. the SK and myself (bard) popped Infusion and i sang resist songs, and i used Fearless discipline. fight took about 2 minutes. he's not too difficult for a 2-group raid of lvl 50s, just keep those resists UP.
he dropped two breastplates, the bracers, a Rune of the Astral, and the quest item. for sure, the toughest part is the Chardok raid.
done this with the help of a 75 dru he soloed everthing. the only help we got is when we need a rog to unlock the door to Chardok. we was omw back and a other cleric 1.0 was going back to we just followed and after they killed we just keep the room cleared and bout hour 1/2 or 2 hour's we killed him np . them druids are nice class to be . didnt see him run away from one mob. I didnt know druids could tank that good .. lol must be nice
I soloed this guy, popped Vow of Valor and my Ward of Reprisal and ganked him, however he runs at 15% and being a belly caster I had to run ahead of him to make sure my blast went off while he was on top of me. 75 Cleric, Maelin Starpyre
Heh so all u guys saying its easy, if a group was to fail and get wiped multiple times )) anyone see a way of not having to start from the very start of epic , atm i cant see any way that im gonna camp the stupid gobbie for 8 hours again !!!!!
Over the years, Ragefire has gone weak, a few days ago i soloed him for a friend, trying to get the arm's clicky for the DS. :-/ My stratedgy was: get under him, cast MoB, and use clicky time pants for MoTR. I casted the level 69 ward spell, had my summoned hammer out and meleed with Yaulp on. When he ran, was when it got tough, i had to use my nukes to nuke him down, while planning ahead to where he would be when the nuke went off. Eventually he dropped, and dropped the BP, Bracer, and Helm.. No sleeves :-( I know this isn't a great achievement, but you can solo it if you don't have your epic at level 70 for some odd reason ;-)
62 war, 57 cleric, 70 druid, 70 necro, 70 chanter. Never summoned me and yes, a belly caster he is. My game went bonkers for the fight and I never saw my attacks and showed him at 100 percent, till he turned to run and keeled over.
We arrived to do the encounter for my boxed cleric and another group were there doing theirs. Both groups sticked around to help eachother out, friendly people that we are :). Ragefire dropped a BP, Leggings, and Helm for them, and dropped 2xBracer and Boots for us.
This guy drops the final piece for the Cleric 1.0 Epic. He's a Kunark-aged MOB, so not difficult by today's standards.
Summons. Two AoE's: DD&Dispell and fear. Melees at a bit over 300 per hit. Belly caster. (If memory serves)
Keep in mind he was meant to be a challenge when the game was much more alive, equipment was much less powerful, maximum level was 60, and there were no such thing as AA's. This isn't just important for history.. helps you understand now. His melee is alright, but not great since they didn't want him killing tanks instantly. His AoE's are main source of his influence and damage, allowing the fight to be something everyone is involved with, and not just something most people watched. He summons, since he was never meant to be solo'd. He's a belly caster, if I remember correctly. Since the spells are meant to allow for usage of then-high-end resistances, they're relatively easy to resist today.
To beat this guy, you'll need resistances for all those present. Junk buff if you're a bit short on them. (Just get GoDruzzil and PoSeasons in PoKnowledge, from Druids and Chanters respectively. Bards are great if in party) Someone will have to be able to tank him. This isn't a hard job.. just, you'll need a healer if DPS isn't high or the tank isn't an elite-type tank. Finally, you'll need some DPS. He doesn't seem to have too much HP. He is soloable. Just make sure you meet the three requirements: resistances, melee tanking, DPS. He will summon you, so if you're a caster, I'd bring along a tank friend. If you're not 70 with a good number of AA's and some decent gear, I'd consider a smaller group.
A poster below said a group of about 20 55's would've been able to do it.
(This post has been mostly a summation of lower posts and personal experience. His melee DPS, his ability to summon, and the ability of classes to solo him are all barrowed; the idea of this post was to save scrolling.)
Well, thanks to my inability to read my printout i did the turnin alone with a 70 pally back at the ot zoneline. i was able to hold him off till the pally got there and we killed zordak leaving me with about 20m. When the dragon spawned he debuffed us so we duod him without clarity ( i did have 3 c potions and if you back up out of his ae range you can med some with them) and without any buffs on the pally. Basically he's a pretty easy kill if you have a couple decent toons.
When i was just starting my epic i thought this was gonna be the toughest mob....
...It turns out hes a pushover, Chardok King was tougher than this dude. A level 70 ROUGE Soloed this idiot, along with a level 55 Necro and level 59 shaman and me...
...all he managed to do spell wise was fear me once, other than that we Pwnd him
Just took him down with a 70 wiz 66 BL 63 cle 66 mage, the BL was boxed so I just used my wiz to tank prety sad when a wiz can tank lol :) Got 2 Blazing Vambracers 1 helm cleric epic piece and a Ruby Crown.
#REDACTED,
Posted:Jul 03 2005 at 5:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok so yada yada i got a group doze of for like 5 minets & woke up & there was a 70 sk with 14k hps & i ask her to solo rage & she said yes & when we zoned in my group was there & i shouted are yall killing rage
looks like this fella is on some kind of crack yes a 70sk can solo rage but at least finish what it was your talking about. your sentence was all sorts of chopped to hell lol
I think his 2nd tag line reference causes the default filter to hide the post they're talking about. Does this help anyone kill or find this mob? No, but it will add a page for anyone who prints everything out :)
Spawned for us in the NE corner of the zone at the dragon temple. Took him down with a 68 enc, 65 rng, 68 clr, 61 war, 68 dru, 56 bst. Serious over-kill. FR and MR of 150+ should do. No one feared, minimal AE damage. If you have a single group in your guild that can do mid-high level OoW or PoP or GoD Rage will be an annoyance. Could've killed him with 2 or 3. Nice to have a chanter as the wanderers can add. The nearby guardian wurms are the only risk as they are non-trivial mobs, unlike the rest of the wanderers.
