Okay my guildmates and I have literally killed everything on the Crag Hill with our focus of attention on hill giants which were rumored to spawn from Carrion Spiders from snakes. After close to 3 hours we've had no luck spawning Tarbul at all. We've also tried the rogue lion spawn rumor, the silvermist wolf near the Muktail rumor, and none of these rumors seem to fit the facts. Can anyone tell me how the heck to spawn him?

I was killing spiders and snakes tonight, and the occasional giant when they spawned, and this guy spawned twice in less than one hour. As far as I know, only spiders and snakes were being killed at the time.

Was in EK farming silks like everyone else... and this guy started clomping around, while I was buffing a Ranger friend. I said ooh free plats and sicked dogdog. He was DB unlike the other HGs who are green and LB at 56. The ranger told me that he was a bad bugger and offered help, but I declined in my smugness. Turns out I didnt need any help but he does have crazy hp regen.. even with focus enhanced Bane Of Nife at 250dam per tick and a hasted pet he was going down very slowly. And when dot wore off he was gaining HPs even while pet was 50pct hasted and Dual Wielding on his ***** RAnger said his tear was for an epic. Turned out my mage has an MQ of the tear now.

DO be careful with this guy if you dont have DPS or lotsa mana and time. It seemed he is even more prone to hold aggro on casters than normal HGs. He spoda have high Fire Resists and someone said his PH was a rogue lion.
He was hurting my farming!

Was like most of the people in EK farming for silks and pelts when I a Ranger of the 39 season killed a regular lion that was running in slow motion by the mucktails. Thought nothing of it and went about my way like I always do, kill, track, loot, repeat.

Made it to the top of Craig Hill and turned around to see a named hillie conning red and was shocked. It was my first encounter ever with him and he was messing up my farming area so I gave a shout out to the zone that he was up and a lvl 53 monk replyed.

I snared him and tried to cast burning arrow on him to agro kite him, yea, snare held fine but the DD, which normally hits for 180, landed everytime for 21 damage. Needless to say he really did not like me and was trying his best to get to me, not even noticing the monk betting the crap out of him from behind.

He finally lost interest in me at about 35% health and then beat the monk down to 12% health and the hillie was still at 22% with me beating on him from behind. Monk FD, passed aggro to me and he beat on me till I was down to 15% health then the monk started back in. the giant did not even try to run away until 2% health. Took us almost 20 minutes for 2 plat and a cracked staff and the rain of Karana, leave this one alone unless you need the gem.

Really enjoyed the fight because it was close, fun and scary, and thanks Zankis you rock!

65 Cleric made him cry =)
I was farming silks on the hill and this dude got in my way! so i nuked him (1100hp nuke did 9% damage). so i started beating on him, and he went down after a long fight. i am guessing he has around 10k hps (based on the damage my nuke did). happy hunting!!

Just happened on him last night while running to HHK to pick up spells for my baby alt Chanter. No problem to solo but it was a long slow death for him. Root and snare stuck and held well but the DoTs took forever to kill him. I guess I have a piece for my alt mages epic now... I just need to MQ it.

after reading all of these posts, i chose to steer clear of this guy as much as i could. i didn't think a 43 druid would stand much of a chance! then, this 55 warrior asked me if i'd like to help him take Tarbul down. i couldn't resist the opportunity! so i snared him, dotted him and nuked the heck out of him til he was thoroughly PO'd with me & didn't even notice the big warrior behind him doin the smack down! i backed my way around the entire zone, with this guy on my tail-- re-dotting & nuking. we took him down in 5 mins! the warrior had 41% hp & i had a whopping 6%!! LMAO woot! Garbucs-- hun, you rock!

I JUST took down Tarbul Earthstrider... I'm a level 55 mage. I had a KEI and a horse going so mana was no problem. Tarbul was up when i got into the zone, I knew since my pet ranger had him on track. However, Tarbul was bugged and apparently had spawned beneath the earth, i.e. he was in zone and up on track, but nowhere in zone. I had to wait for a petition to go through to get a GM to kill Tarbul for me so i could respawn him. I had my friend (level 62 warrior) pull all kinds of yard trash around on "crag hill" and then bring it back to me, at which point i would cast sirocco and hit everything in our controlled train for 630 points all around. It took us less than 10 minutes to get Trabul Earthstrider to spawn in this manner.

Lessons learned: Bring a ranger (or druid or bard) for tracking just in case Tarbul is spawned beneath the world. Also, don't hesitate to send in a petition to a GM if Tarbul is stuck down there. Finally, pull all kinds of yard trash on to you (hopefully you have help) and then AE nuke it (without hitting yourself with your AE nuke like i did once today) to get either Tarbul or his PH 'a rogue lion' to spawn fairly rapidly.

I was farming spiders with my lvl 51 Mage and saw this guy. I knew I needed him for my epic, so I medded to FM, buffed up Mudball (lvl 51 Earth Pet) and sicced him on him. I got him down to 55% by the time he killed Mudball, and I was OOM. Gated back to PoK, got KEI, picked up a druid (lvl 65) and ported back. I asked the druid to just kite Tarbul, while I sicced Fireball (lvl 49 focused pet) on him. She kited and Fireball followed pounding while I Lavabolted. Bingo got my epic piece.

Just saw this guy for the first time while killing spiders for silk with my 53 fruid. Never heard of him, conned dk blu, so I figure I'd give give him a go. Bad idea. He repeatedly resisted my root and chased me to the plane. When I came back I was ready. Medded up full, finally rooted and snared him and went to drifting death. Tried ice and fire, but used too much mana. So, stuck with the death only. Veeeerrrrrryyyyy slooooowwwwlllyyyy drained him down - good thin I had kei on. He finally died when I had 2% mana left. Got 42 pp, left the Rain of Karana, but too bad no mag around to take it - rotted away.

Just thought I'd post my experience with Tarbul.

Last night I (51 enc) and a 48 druid were hunting spiders. She spotted this white conning HG so we went in for the kill. My 49 animation took care of all the melee (with a SLtW, Shadow, and a few Beserker Spirits) while the druid healed and threw DoTs. My pet ended up dying while Tarbul was at 2% health. Tarbul looked at us and started to flee so we tried melee-ing him from behind but he was healing faster than we could hurt him so one more nuke and he fell. Got about 11pp from him and the Rain of Karana. I might solo him one day for a challenge.

Level 51 mage took him down. All I had was sow, talisman of tnarg and chloroplast a nice shaman (Imhottep) gave me as he was passing by. Thank you kindly sir. I used a lvl 51 earth pet with summoned plate armor, 2 summoned swords, an opal bracelet, I cast Burnout 3 and shield of lava and then let pet go at Tarbul. I cast elemental maelstrom on Tarbul, at this point i sat down and waited for pet to die. Cast new pet give it shield of lava sent in to hammer on Tarbul, I sat down at this point to try to regain a very little mana. I stood up after a minute or two and cast elemental maelstrom again, sat down. Cast pet again sent it in and then cast shield of lava, at this point I stepped in to let tarbul aggro me instead of pet. Keep in mind I had 1000 hp from buffs. Stepped back let pet take over. Three times Tarbul chased me but with sow couldn't catch me and pet beating on him the whole time. By this time he is at about 37 hp when I have to cast my 4th pet. sent it in cast the lava shield., sit down again. When he reaches about 25 hp I cast elemental maelstrom and pray heavily. I only have half a bubble of blue at this point. wait for pet to almost be dead and cast the fifth and final pet. Tarbul goes down and pet has half health. collect my prized epic piece. My INT is only 193.

Resistant to fire? Nah my firedot worked fine on him. Resisted only once. Me lvl 52 druid with my boyfriend 52 warrior took him with ease. Kept him rooted while dotting so that warrior got all beating. Worked like a charm.

A guildmate of mine sent a guildsay out that this guy was up and asked our mage if he would like to kill him for the drop. Within 5 minutes we have 4 people there to kill him. A lvl 52 Paladin, Level 44 Mage, Level 29 Wizzy and me a Lvl 51 Necro. Talk about an easy kill. I stuck around the zone for a few more minutes to help collect some pelts. Tarbul popped again and I decided to see if I could solo him. Darknessed him. Dotted. Sent pet and feared. Long fight but easily won. Just keep darkness and fear on him. Let your dots and pet work him

I am a 38 ranger and a 46 druid friend of mine did a kite job on this guy the other day. My friend the druid snared and dotted him and kept agro on him, just kitted him around. I just followed behind and whacked on him. When my stamina got low, shot him with arrows as the druid ran him around in circles by me. Cast invigor, repeat. He resists the fire spells and doens't root for long, but with me following and whacking, we got this guy down. Took a good ten minutes to do. Your split of the loot 36p 16g.

Hey all,

I thought I'd post my experience taking this guy down for all you other mages out there.

He has crazy fast regen, and a ton of hp's. I had just gotten done killing Slixin in BW that drops the Dirt of Underfoot, and I'd say Tarbul easily has more hp's than him, although he doesn't hit as hard.

As a 52 mage with 255int and KEI and a horse (no I'm not saying that braggingly, it will play a part in this story) I took him down solo with no chain casting, but it was tough. At the end of the fight my pet was at 41pct health and I had 7pct mana left.

Here was the strategy. I used my horse so that I could med in fight without green adds. You will need to med in fight to solo him at lev 52. I gave my lev 51 earth pet a full set of phantom plate and an elemental defender, BO III, LS, and sent him in. I let my pet tank him down the first 1/2 bubble health, then Malosi'd him and cast elemental maelstrom and shock of swords.

After that it was pretty simple. Keep the pet healed with 52 heal spell, use a mixture of dots and DD (throw in the dots to avoid taking aggro from your pet, Tarbul doesn't like to stay rooted).

He fell down like a good boy, but like I said, it was tough. I'd say if you don't have at least 240 int (with or without KEI, it doesn't matter) don't try taking this guy down solo using my strategy. I would suggest chain casting a lev 49 fire pet instead and letting Tarbul beat himself to death on that lovely DS.

Good luck fellow mages!

Fell down here too ... but not without a fight and it was a close one !

I'm 53 Druid and it took all of my mana to get him down (had Kei). Root and snare stick pretty easy but fire based Dot's get resisted. Used Winged & Drifting death (yup... they do stack) and creeping crud. It was an even trade off .. 1 bubble of mana for 1 bubble of health, wasn't sure if I'd have enough mana once we got down to last bubble but barely made it.

The loot? Rune of landing, toe and the mage's karana stuff as well as 10 gold, 5 silver and 130 copper. In the end, I killed it because I'd rather kill it on my terms before it decides to go after me when I'm not ready. Plus... get bragging rights to soloing this dude :)

Good luck with him if you try him on ... xp not worth it so if others in zone can help ya... send on /ooc before taking him on... he's fun to watch falling and snares and roots easily.

This evening I took this guy down with my 51 druid and a 52 pally on the povar server. He was pretty easy I slowed and rooted, then dotted him and played healer while the pally worked him. he fell pretty easy.

Kidding right? RARE SPAWN?!?

He's been there everytime I have visited EK. Usually comes for me right after I kill a Kitty or Spidey. I have survived all but 1 encounter with him when he snuck up on my ranger friend and I.

Small Aggro range too - but if SoW or JBoots you can outrun him.

I finally soloed Tarbul today. As a 51 Druid, it took me an hour and half (yea some can do it quicker) to do it but the satisfaction came when I saw him fall to the ground. He does have an incredible regen. The first thing I did was to get a C3. I then tracked him in EK and rooted and ensnred him. I then threw Drifting Death on Tarbul to counter his regen. Then I used Ice to DD and drop his resistance to fire. I then blasted him with Fire to DD and drop his resistance to Cold. I then just rinsed and repeated until he finally dropped. When he finally died, he dropped a Rain of Karana (which I left for a Mage) and a bloodstone. At 51, I did not even get a blue pixel of EXP, although he was dark blue, but it was nice to be able to make him pay for the few times he previously killed me when I was innocently killing animals to farm silk and pelts.

Man.. Me was like 20 - 25 druid and a lvl 30 monk named hexphin wanted to give this one a shoot =).. pretty easy, monk pulled him to town.. and i tried to root him by guards.. and so i did. but it costed me like half mana =P. but so guards started to hit him, and more NPC came think it was the merchants.. they hitted him down to half health then monk attacked. but man he hitted for 105 dmg and his healt regen was fast. but for a 25 druid and 30 monk i think we did kinda good =), thats all for me

Guards or Merchants do NOT attack him. the giants in NK are attacked by guards but not in EK.. I drew Tabul to every guard in zone off your post and you do not write the truth or know what you are talking about. Please, in the future do not post anything you do not know what you are writing about.

# Aug 22 2002 at 8:48 PM Rating: Decent
After farming for silks and HQ kitty pelts there for hours on end, I have found that near the ramp path to High Hold Pass the PH resides there. Where you find the Mucktail Gnoll boys, there is normally a silvermist wolf spinning. Sometimes it is a lion. Kill him and he will pop in just a minute or two. Have done this multiple times for not good reason.

Had no idea what this guy was for but I thouht I would kill him today. He surprised me but wasn't too bad. He has crazy fast regen, my DoTs barely touched him. Large HP pool aswell. I was Cold, Fire and Magic DoTing him, but fire kept getting resisted so I did Snare and Cold and Magic DoTs. Took a while but wasn't hard once I got the strategy down. LOL the hardest part was the damn Lion that added on me when I sat down to mem a song mid fight. When the giant was snare the lion would get close to me and sometimes interrupted my songs. Luckily there was a kind Beastlors there who took the Lion of me. Hopefully this piece can be MQ'ed =)
