ive gotten like 10 of those swirling mists in a few days time, easy stuff, pets can kill them too

I spent 5 hours in SF and killed 7 steam elementals nothing.. then spent 6 hours in najena killed about 15 mist elementals nothing but oxide and stuff. im on the tunare server ..if someone has some swirling mist plz send Shimmeress or Yeshall a tell I will buy them.. I need it for my high elf armor.. and im beginning to think it doesnt exsist. got plenty of essence of moonlight from vampires in mistmoore and forage morning dew from my druid but no swirling mist!! and been workin on it more than a week ..

i was killed twice by this 2nd time due to a twerp i grouped with, i 1st put consider up and green writing came up and seemed fair chance for a lvl 12 wiz, then when it hit me message came up that it is invulnerable, i am now waiting 4 lag to go down to try \and recover my body 4 6th time, as i keep on getting lag killed, disconnected 15 times while trying to get my stuff from bod, and came back on 4 occasions to find i'm dead, am now a lowly 11, and cant use my 12 spells, and am aboiut to go back.
i agree steams spawn a lot seen 12-15 since been here, earth elementals will attack if u have no weapon, as soon as i have my things am going to attack honest orcs at least i have a chance on my own. Yes read note on diferent rats who attack when u r attacking an elemental, is nuisance but among the many deaths here 1 from them isnt bad.

dont you get INVIS at like level 4? or something? and that means you need a magic weapon to hit it. its a magical armor based mob. thats all. invis, drag body. I am sure its been a billion years since this guy posted, but learn from it.

No.. neither wizzies NOR mages get invis at level 4 you moron... wizzies get SEE INVIS at level 4, mages get invis at level 8 and wizzies have to wait til level 16.. get your facts straight before you decide to post some LAME reply to someone that is merely explaining his findings.

these things are leathal at lvl 9-11 they gang up on you with the earth elementals cause there all in a big group about 5 feet away from eachother so beware

Steams can drop iron oxide, russet oxide, swirling mist, elemental binder, charcoal and drop or mercury. only once, have i seen them with onyx, malachite, and a garnet.

You are right... I have fought in MULTIPLE zones that have elementals of all 4 kinds... the ONLY one that the elemental binder drops in is the Hole.

I always thought u needed a magic weapon to kill creatures alot later in the game. I attacked them with a warrior and i had to run to the guards and i was around lvl 14 when this happened and all i wanted to see was what they dropped because those dumb mino's where taking to long to spawn! So warriors, monks, and rouges, don't be dumbass's, don't attack these guys

Spent 2 hrs camping these, trying to collect drop of mercury. In the 2 hrs, i saw and killed only 1. Killed other things too, mostly the earth elementals.

What is swirling mist for, its magical but what does or is it for.

Swirling Mist is used in High Elven Cultural blacksmithing as part of the Moonlight Temper

hunted these for a while looking for blacksmithing stuff, they drop iron oxide, swirling mist, and random gems

In five kills I've gotten:
one charcoal
one vial of swirling mist
one drop of mercury
Am I just lucky, or do they really drop these things often?
And are earth elementals placeholders for them by any chance?

Seems to me that rogue clockworks, harpys, rats and elementals are part of the same spawn cycle, Steam elementals being the rarer of them. The drop of mercury is for Dwarven cultural blacksmithing, Charcoal is for dyeing armor while Swirling mist is for Elven cultural blacksmithing, and may fetch you a handsome amount of money if you auction it in Kelethin.

I am a dwarfen cleric (yes, it can be done). I need the mercury, and colors and stuff, and in my server (Lanys) almost nobody hunts in Steamfont, well besides the minos, and Halv. The steam dont seem that rare, I have seen three at one time with my little eye. They seem to spawn just as often as everything else. Something odd thou, I have killed two green of these, one gave great xp, one didn't. I think a bug happened. Best of luck blacksmiths. The only true skill, besides Achool Tolerence
