Star Rose Quartzi have done the quest fully a few times...
his spawn time is not random, i have been timing it and he has been spawning on the dot.. this may be just a trend for a few days, but i'll find out, and when i make sure it's true i will post the time here, it's over 2 hours i'll tell you that much =) but i think he does despawn after a min or two, i nuked him, then to wipe out my train, i started casting upheaval when tracking reported ' You have lost your target ' before upheaval had landed and i was the only one in the zone that could have killed him due to all of the newbies only corpse that was left was his pet's
oh and he's lvl 23, due to him HTing me for 231 every time he spawned as the HT dmg formula is lvl*10+1 this only works on npcs below 50 as it rises faster at higher levels

The PH is a gnoll near the snake pit that despawns frequently. Let it despawn a few times until Lord spawns.

This guy Spawns like everything else, there is no trigger to make this guy spawn. He spawns when he spawns. Wanna know how I know? I am a GM, and in the database for NPC spawning. I looked for this NPC and it clearly stated "Lord Elgnub: Time: Random, level variation: 25 - 29." So haha, if you don't believe me, petition a GM and ask yourself.

Actullly if you were a gm you might see that his lvl is 23 to 27 maybe high or lower but fyi. Charlie dont con blue to lvl 24's at lvl 25+

I belive the way you make him pop is by killing all the elites in the area of the spike pit and around there. He should pop eventually if you keep doing this beacuse I believe that the elites are his place holders. I've seen it done many a times by my brother and his char.

I have killed (literally) every gnoll at least once in BB. (one by one went to each spawn and killed.) Got the splitpaws, docho, mannan . . .except for Trannax Darkpaw ! (Anyone know how to make him spawn ?) Well there is a Rat that spawns topside, kill it and The big boy spawns. I did this 3 times and after killing the rat jumped off the side tothe ledge below and ran to the spike pit and there he is. Also be sure and attack right away as he De-pops after like 2-3 minutes. I got the baby, (a dingo ate my baby...) and then had to log, came back on and he was still there, so the 15 minutes to deliver the baby I don't believe is true. If it is then I was right against the wall with getting him there. Yes, martha, I have a Gnoll Slayer.

ive leveled a few toons threw blackburrow, it has been a long time since i went so i took my 50 mage to wipe everything out (bored) and i was told he pops in the snake pit once a week, or once a day i dont remember... but 5 minutes later he was up, i sent pet and he wiped him out.
careful when killing him, he harmtouched me for about 240 at lvl 50, it might go up more but thats how much he got me for.

He doesn't just pop once a week or once a day - I've killed him twice in one two-hour period. I've never seen him up except for that one night, so I can't claim to know how often he spawns or if he's triggered.

Ok first of all the first half of the quest is not broken so you can get the gnoll slayer but the second half to increase th power of it is. Has anyone ever seen the one eyed gnoll I certainly can't. I do not know what causes Elgnub to spawn but this is what I did I went to talk to the Martin layer guy got the info then went to the snakepit killed everything around real fast snakes and any gnoll that wonders around waited about 10 more minutes did not see spawn. so I figured it didnt work so I grouped with 2 others about 15,16 and I am 18 we cleared the commander rooms and elite rooms just up from the pit came back to pit to med there he was!!! So I jumped on Him right away not knowing really how tough he was really. My group started nuking him and he was only hitting me for 25-30hp so i wasnt worried till he dropped me and started in on my warrior partner and in 1 spell for 315 wasted him sorry buddy!! by this time we had him at nearly 1/3 health left so the two of us left finished him off barely. I am ranger with dual weild so I think I was knocking his spells until he aggroed on partner.Poor guy He did drop the baby and i got it took it back half an hour later and he gave me the slayer. great fun to kill him but only good to fair reward. I really know the second half of the quest is broken till I see the one eyed Gnoll dont know how tough he is so I will do my best to get him. I will post if I get anything concrete to tell you further. So gl and be safe until you see elgnub it is funny to see the freak die that to me was worth the whole trouble. I have killed in Blackburrow for many, many levels across several characters. I never saw this guy spawn til this past weekend!
Not sure what it takes to trigger this guy. My 10-11 shaman was hanging around the snake pit with a 35 iksar monk who was killing for faction (and keeping me alive). We had just finished killing off the green room (elite room) when he spawned - he opens with a 200pt HT. He's not particularly MR for his level, because I was hitting him up with Frost Rift repeatedly.
We cleaned out the area - green room, the ledge room next to it, and the next room over - for about another half hour and he spawned again. The monk had seen him about 2 hours before, so we could not quite decide what the trigger was. I would not be surprised if talking to the Sayers in QHills to get the quest is the trigger.
The best thing this for is faction. However, Lord E. is pretty high level for the middle of a newbie zone, and it's my understanding that the next set of mobs you have to kill to upgrade the sword give exp well into the 40s, so it's kind of sad that they didn't leave the 2 (two! come on Verant! two charges!) charges of summon companion on the sword. The sword itself is hardly "uber", either incarnation, and 2 charges of a summoned pet will not do anything hugely fantasic for anybody - it would mostly be a fun toy. :)
Ah well, nice to see them re-instituting some long-nerfed quests. Now if they would add a lot more quests in general, so everybody doesn't have to camp the same ten mobs in the game forever and ever and ever...

He spawned about 10 times (that I saw) after the 03-19-02 patch. He has not shown up at all today after the 03-21-02 patch, nor have I ever seen him before the patch, and I spent the majority of my playing time in blackburrow over the last year...
Obviously, Tuesday's patch changed something. Did Thursday's undo it?

i can say without a doubt that as of 3-20-02 at 11pm cst that the lord does still spawn in the snake pit...about crapped my panst at lvl 10 when our group saw as we were campeds in pit.......he conned red and scowlded rdy to attack altho he just stood there......i mean we were right in front of him, right ther.....i shouted he was up...some higher lvl came in snared him, took lord algub and his pet like 20 secinds to destroy this guy..i didnt stick around to see what happened after that.....safe travels all

Elgnub spawns in the snake pit...but you trigger the spawn...you have something like fifteen minutes from talking to Martin Sayer to go and kill all the gnolls and snakes on the snake ledge area (i think) and then if you get it done, Elgnub will spawn in the pit...I have also heard another version on Everlore.com, where they say you gotta kill everything in the Commander room before he will spawn, AND ANOTHER SAYING YOU HAVE TO KILL A GNOLL HIGH TO GET HIM TO SPAWN...so whatever you gotta do, I'm almost positive it isn't a random spawn...good luck

I agree , I attempted to get Lord E to spawn several times but was only successful today when after speaking to Marton in his hut , i ran to BB, got to green room and found a High Shaman and a Splitpaw commander. After quickly dispatching of these two I took a look down at the snake pit , there he was Lord Elgnub. As I ran into the pit Some high level druid had attacked Lord E and killed him in 2 seconds. we had a few words and he told me the sayer baby was on the corpse if I wanted to complete the quest. Needless to say being a lvl 31 Warrior the outcome did not quench the bloodthirst. So i just wanted to update a very recent sequence of events that successfully spawned Lord E

Actually depends on a few things: Level, class and race. Some classes and races have experience penaltys. Hybrid classes, trolls,ogres,iksar to name a few.

I'm about 95% positive they removed all class experience penalties about 7 months ago. Race ones remained.

I was just wondering, how much faction would it take for someone to go from threateningly to indifferent in surefall from killing gnolls?

I would safely say maybe close to 50 gnolls possibly. sometimes it can take more but that depends on your overall charisma.
Another matter is that it will only raise your Jaggedpine Treefolk faction... not your Protectors of the Pine faction. Both occupy Surefall, as well as two Guards of Qeynos outside. Guards are easy to please... but those damn rangers...
Heck, I'm one of them, and they're still only Amiable... there's gotta be a better way to make them happy.

WHERE does he spawn?? I have leveled 3 characters ib BB to lvl 23 and have never seen him or had him on track, EVER! I know every inch of that place, he must REALLY be rare.

to get him to spawn you go to martin and say [what about your baby.] he'll say the mangey gnoll lord blablabla.then you run your @$$ off to bb into the snake pit rid it of gnolls and snakes when you clear the last snake or gnoll he pops kill him loot the baby if he drops it its a 1/5 chance then run your @$$ off back to martin give him the baby and if you did all that with in 15MINS he will reward you with a crap weapon it good for second spot on dewl weild if over 15MINS you all that effort in trying you need to be at lest 25 to do this or you get your but stoped by 20 15-upgnolls and snakes.

I understand about clearing the snake pit, but do you need specific responses from Martin first? I've asked him about the powerful dog, when he was standing on the steps to his house (outside the house, but right next to the door) and gotten the comment about Lord Elgnub. But I didn't find a way to get him to say anything specific about Joseph.
The rumor I've heard is that Martin has to be away from his house searching for his baby, and talked to, for you to be able to trigger Elgnub. I'd like to know if this is true or not, and what else you need to ask besides "what powerful dog". Please?
I've killed so many gnolls, I certainly feel I qualify to wield the gnoll slayer :)
