Went after the King for cleric epic. Group was 65 sk cle enc dru mag and a 65 rogue just for lockpicking doors.

The trip to the King is fairly standard dungeon crawl. There is a mix of normal and undead mobs and swapping between invis and IVU for a group is rather impractical so we used invis as much as possible but had to fight a lot of mobs anyway. They are all green and LB and have typical Kunark low HPs so this is just an annoyance rather than a danger. Watch out for traps which drop invis, there are a few on the way, notably on the final bridge into the King's building and another one right after the door which you open after this bridge. In other words, two traps back to back and they always aggro some trash.

You need a rogue to open two doors. There might be "tricks" that can get you past the doors without the contribution of a high-skill rogue but I used the rogue. There is an excellent YouTube video from an Agnarr necro who solo's the King and he shows a trick using his pet to get himself summoned beyond the door. Nice---and legit---trick, so let's call it a strategy.

Remember at the second rogue-needed door (in the Library) there is an invisible pit trap on the right tile which drops you right on top of the King. Clever! Any kind of lev will protect you as well as being invis'd since the King does not see thru. As bosses go, he's rather one of the weaker ones.

We arrived at the hallway outside the King's chambers and cleared the wanderers. SK went down to see if he could split some of the King's guards. The King has 2 guards right next to him and then 3 on both sides of the room, so a total of 8 potential adds. Our goal was to pull 3 from each side twice and then either split out the 2 near the King or just fight the King with those guards. We had the sk try to snare 2 or 3 guards but he aggro'd all 6 of the ones on the sides PLUS the King. So he FD'd and we used CoH to summon him away.

BIG mistake! Apparently not enough distance. So the King and 6 guards aggro'd up the corridor onto our group. Fortunately enchanter Fascination landed on the guards. So we burned down the King and then cleared the guards one by one. He blinded 3 of our group sequentially. Fortunately we remembered to load cure blindness which worked when cast. The King was a quick kill and the encounter was never in doubt.

Interestingly, the two guards closest to the King's spawn point never added. I think they need a harsh comment or two in their next workplace performance review.

On progression servers, is the respawn time calculated differently? People are telling me 2 hours, but I killed him in this pickzone over two hours ago and he has not respawned.

UPDATE:
Took about 2 hours 20 minutes.

Bring Slow

Killed Overking with a 65 shaman, 65 necro, and 65 mage in Gates era. Getting through the door is a bit tricky now that most of the exploits have been fixed, but luckily there are a few mobs that spawn to the right of the door that summon. You just have to be creative to get one of those mobs through the door and have it summon your mage through and then you can coth the rest of the crew in.

I found just invising and dropping down on top of overking worked well instead of pulling him from his room through the 2nd locked door. I could position my Shaman up against the wall to reduce interrupts and then just AoE slow everything when we engaged. There are so many adds and they bring more friends if one of them happens to run off so do what you can to get AoE slow off ASAP and then you can torpor tank the rest of the fight.
Update on NPC spells.

Interesting try:

55 Cleric 199AA
55 Tank Merc
60 Druid 317AA
56 Necro 164AA

Thought I try it boxed with low level toons. Killed the whole way through the zone, door has been opened by a rogue, used fellowship for safety but never needed it really. Killed the way down to the King for Cleric Epic. Necro pulled, Merc engaged, had a bunch of about 8-10 mobs included the King on him, killed slow all adds one by one with Druid DS, Cleric DS on all Mobs and simpel old style "complete heal" for the Merc Tank and the Tank chewed through all the mobs. Druid and Necro assisted. No single death, complete easy going and for the King itself it was cake walk. The only critical thing was the pull in Bathzids room and the adds which killed Necros pet, but after the Merc Tank engaged fully, there was no problem anymore.

Lots of adds

Just completed this with 65 cleric (gnome) and 71 bard (wood elf) + 2 J1 tank mercs. To get thru the first locked door, I used the shrink trick for my bard and it worked perfectly. Shrink, walk into door until you can see thru to the other side, /exit, and when you log back in just step forward into the hallway. Shrink doesn't do anything for short races so I had to use an illusion instead. Bought some troll pots, walked into door until I could see thru, cast illusion, and popped thru other side.

The Overking is directly below the red-marked trap. The 2nd locked door is right in front of this trap, just walk to the right side of that area and you'll drop down (no need to go thru this door). As others mentioned, there must have been at least 12 in that room and they all attacked as soon as my invis popped. Killed Overking first (no trouble at all, was light blue to the bard and white to the cleric). Got thru all the adds with about 5 complete heals on the higher lev merc. Really not too much of a challenge with the 71 there.
Philters and Shadowstepping

I thought I would expand a bit here on the philters used to get to the Overking, so others will know exactly what to expect when using the Shadowstep technique.

I was fortunate enough to obtain the assistance of a level 90 SK, Westa Terrabelle on the Xegony server---thank you Westa! We originally attempted to get to this mob one Saturday afternoon and had no problems getting to the infamous locked door with no way of getting it opened. This was very disappointing and scuttled our attempt that day. I almost thought that was the end of the quest for my cleric but it forced me to research other options, which I found here.

Encouraged, I immediatly began adjusting the faction of my level 60 Bard, a skilled lockpick who could get the SK in without problems. Took him to Nurga and killed the first several rooms again and again, collecting all the salts and skins I could find. In about a week he went from "Scowls" to "Dubious". This allowed him to simply walk down to the royal chambers where I could experiment with the door at leisure with the necessary Philters discussed here.

On an average attempt you will need the following: "Philter of Goulons Impunity"--float, "Philter of the Ant"--shrink and "Philter of Minor Translocation"--shadowstep. There are other incidental Philters such as Major Translocation to gate out, but the three listed above are the most important. I went to the bazaar hoping to buy them but found the supply there sadly lacking. Over time, most vendors find what will sell and what will not and adjust their supply to the most popular. I found readily the shrink and float potions but could never find the shadowstep there.

I have a level 45 Shammy who needed to learn a trade, so I set about learning Alchemy. You can actually get to level 200 just by doing the line of Philters and all the components are readily available in POK. In no time I had full stacks of everything needed to complete the deed loaded on the Bard for my experiments. The only problems he encountered was the energy shields just outside the royal residence which stopped him for a bit, drained some life and then let him go. Now positioned at the door, I made sure his lockpick skills were up to par and the door opened without problem. Incedentally, the mobs beyond the door also conned "Dubious", so one is considered dubious all the way to the royal chambers. This I tested by taking him all the way down for tea and cookies with Himself and the Misses, not to mention Lil Junior.

Back to the door, I had read here that I would need to shrink the bard twice before trying Shadowstep, so I shrunk him twice and then ran him at the closed door so that he could look into the other room and fired off a Shadowstep which propelled him into the next room. I did this 3 more times, each time running at the door and each time it took him instantly into the adjacent room. Confident that I knew what I was doing, I logged the bard at the door where he'd be in position to let Westa into the room on the day of the attempt.

The day we did the Overking I depended on Westa to get the cleric down to the royal residence and instructed her to kill everything from the front door to the locked door, including the roamers. Also set her to killing all rooms nearby while I logged out the cleric to bring in the bard. Since the SK's get Shadowstep, Westa was highly dubious that the spell would work. She's used the spell before and considered it the most worthless spell in the SK spellbook. Getting the bard in, I unlocked the door and told her to 'sanitize the room next door' while I logged the bard at the next door in to bring in the cleric to follow Westa in.

Things worked differently for the cleric. First off, the smaller your character's stature, the less you can shrink them. Gnomes, halflings and dwarves can only be shrunk once, but they only need once, unlike the larger-statured classes. Shadowstep works differently as well. Bards can cast 'while' moving, but the cleric as well as all other spell casters must remain still to complete the deed, to be running would cancel the cast. I shrunk the dwarf, and positioned him where he was looking through the locked door into the adjacent room and fired off Shadowstep and it instantly blasted him further down the hall. :( I did this a second time and ended further up the hall. :( A third cast blasted him back down the hall again. :( Panicking now, I fired off another attempt and this time it took me into the proper room---much to both my and Westa's surprise! :)

What this would seem to indicate is that the spell is designed to send you in the direction you are running, should you be running---otherwise it will cast you in a random direction. Be prepared with at least a stack of Shadowstep philters in inventory and keep at it till they take you where you need to go.

The rest of the raid went without incident---end result, dead Overking, happy cleric.

Thank you all for your help!

If you have an illusion clicky you can get threw the doors without a rouge or keys.
Just run into the corner of the door and keep running into as you use your clicky.
When you change form you will be pushed threw the door and wa la your threw.
sorry about the double post.

Very very easy.

Shrouded down my 61 cleric into a 60 goblin rogue, and met with an 81 monk(plus cleric merc) in Chardok.
I invis+sneak+hid my way to the king's room, while the monk invis'd and fd'd. We got to the locked door and I picked the lock, we made our way in. Make sure you are invis and buffed, fall down the trap in the library and you will fall right on top of the Overking.
We moved into the hallway, pulled the room with us, and beat it down. Too easy! Dropped Incarnadine BP, Prince Selrach note, Singed Scroll and a spell.

When I de-shrouded, I was able to get all of these items out of the shroud bank.

Note: Right before the king's castle, there is an arch you must walk through that is guarded by golems, and your invis/sneak/hide will ALL drop at this point. We had the monk pull the mobs away and FD while I ran through.

Defiant armor and merc tanks have made this trivial now. Took my 68 cleric and Moloed to him. Paci half the room, killed the other half. Then pulled the other half of room. Pulled Overking and got only one add. Merc tanked Overking while I killed add. By that time he was already 50% and just meleed him down. No heals needed with only self buffs and conviction on merc. Loot and scoot.

I am guessing he does not cast it very often. I go here once in a while and kill him and I do not get blinded every time. In the previous fight I was not blinded at all thinking he had casted it and I had resisted it and I just looked at the effect and its unresistable. I would say its like 1 out of 3 fights im blinded.

If we're not server first probably server second, great job Eclipsed =)

A little strategy on getting to him without plowing...

If you have an enchanter thats never touched a sarnak in their life, they can collaborate to dubious and give IVU/invis and escort the group down to him. Easier if all but the enchanter and 1 cleric (or person with merc) kill themselves and get dragged down to his room. (NOTE: There are see invis in the library, so you're either gonna have to plow or have a suicidal troop of SK's make a campfire to click to, like we had lol).

The overking himself is pretty much a wuss, its just getting to him and single pulling him is tricky. However the adds are pacifiable although strongly resistant to a 58 enchanter.

When you fight the over king, just be prepared enough to take on about 12 mobs that hit for approximately 100-200 dmg each. This isn't a fun fight for a caster or healer to attempt to solo because you get interrupted like crazy. I handle it pretty well on a 78 monk with or without a merc though, so it isn't ridiculously difficult. As a matter of fact, once you have the crowd under control, this guy is a piece of cake. The same principle applies to the queen and the prince as well.

73 nec soloed king and queen today.

Shadowstepped through locked doors.

Sent pet on one mob in king room and pulled back. Let pet tank most of the adds +king while I killed the adds.

Pet got king down to less than 50% before I even targeted him. Was suprised how easy this was.

Can you just get behind any locked door with rogue shroud, then camp out and come back ready to fight? Was wondering if I could just shroud one of my guys till I got to King, then just camp out and kill him :P Can do the whole room if need be, I just need to get behind the door, then have all my toons able to fight ;)
Thanks for any info that may help :)
