Rolfron Zek, Lord of Despair

Uploaded April 2nd, 2014 by Railus

This is a named mob in the Plane of War. For an overview of all nameds in the Plane of War, their PHs, map points, and mapped locations, see this quest entry.

"Rolfron Zek, Lord of Despair" (click for map image) spawns in the northern part of the Mines (PH is "Dejected Kobold" with respawn timer of 10-12 minutes).

Rolfron Zek hits for a max ~29,000 (no rampage; no flurry).

He has three "Anguish of the _____" debuffs, cast on seemingly random targets, three at a time (including pets of all types). None of these "Anguish" spells should be cured, as they have detrimental effects for doing so (curing "Anguish of the Body" results in "Crushing Anguish" while curing "Anguish of the Soul" and "Anguish of the Spirit" results in the curer being silenced from casting further cures for a bit).

He also has three "Despair of the _____" random-target spells (again, three at a time, including pets of all types). "Despair of the Body" is a lifetap while "Dispair of the Soul" and "Despair of the Spirit" do up to 90,000 dmg (damage amount is calculated based on how many hitpoints, mana, or endurance the target has). These may also drain endurance and mana.

Rolfron also spawns adds ("a shadow of despair") in waves of 2-5 at a time (either the longer he's up OR the lower in health he gets, the more adds per wave). These hit for a max ~16,000 and have relatively few hitpoints. They "die" on their own after a short time of being up. It's unclear if they have to be killed to avoid punishment mechanics, or if they can be left alone. Nothing appears to happen when an add is killed, or when an add dies on its own.

A death touch called "Annihilation of Despair" may also occur here, but the trigger for it is not known.

Rolfron Zek, Lord of Despair says 'Suffer as we have suffered!'

Rolfron Zek, Lord of Despair has been slain by _____!
Spirits of sorrow quickly escape the fallen god's husk. Despair will soon reign anew.

Late coming in, but probably no. Pets that engage cause him to agro lock on their owner, and unless you're up to tanking with your mage, it will be short and ugly.

It has a raid timer when you drop aggro from it, however it drops type 7 loot.
It drops an Enhanced Minion XVIII earring, yet if you are a pet class and send your pet to attack, you become #1 on the aggro list and will die in short order.

I'm confused by this monster, SOE.

Aggro is very bouncy in this zone to begin with, however I've never had a problem with the tank not holding aggro off me. My mage friend seems to be very popular here though. However this named turned on me over the tank while only meleeing and sending my pet in.

Killed him 4 times so far to farm the COP clicky. Had between 97 and 100 million hps each time. Be sure to kill the kobold trash right beside him as it will constanty buff Rolfron during the fight.

Rolfron Zek uses two spells: "Anguish of the Soul" and "Anguish of the Body". These spells are a -500 Corruption resist check and can be mostly resisted with an alternate armor set utilizing +corruption resist augs. During the event he spawns 1x or more "a shadow of despair" on a timed basis (I think). These yellow con shadows have low HPs and do not hit very hard, but they must die ASAP because they cast a 250k DD (after 35% spell shielding) called "Annihilation of Despair".

Spell data also shows an unknown 60k DD going off during the Rolfron fight. I believe this to be the PBAE effect from curing Anguish of the Body.

Edit: The unknown spells going off are called "Despair of the Body" and "Despair of the Soul" which are also -500 corruption resist checks.

Yeah, Had to try him.. The posted spawn location is correct. There are see invis pathing all throughout the hallways, and mobs are stacked close. Aggro seems lax here, but get to close and others will add. He didn't do anything special but once I used FD he spammed me with something to the regard of "Stand and fight your own fight, coward".. This failed my FD and pulled me to him as if I was first on hate list.

His max his was 29k on me, full resist AA and good AC, necro of course.

I would pack a group, or two.. These mobs are targeted as Raid level mobs. Their respawn time is unknown yet, but I would suspect 3 days.

On the opposite side of his spawn tunnel there is a tunnel with a more open end where one could only assume a group would be better off pulling to. You will have to clear about 8 other mobs to pull him here though.
