Azdalin is arguably the harder wurm to get to spawn in order to get your Wurmslayer.

He spawns in the large crater area southwest of the giant fort, as far south as the hornet hill, and as far east as the road leading south from the giant fort. He has no set spawn location, just a large area.

His spawn cycle has a timer of 64 seconds, which is the SAME as all of the rest of the trash in the area. He shares a spawn cycle with the named gorilla Gullerback which is the easiest way to force an Azdalin spawn if you manage to catch him up.

To spawn Azdalin simply clear the entire area specified until either Gullerback or Azdalin spawns. If Gullerback spawns simply pause all killing until everything has had a chance to respawn, grab a tracker, and then kill Gullerback. Wait 64 seconds and the next mob on the cycle should have popped up to the top of tracking if sorting by spawntime. Continue killing the single mobs that spawn every 64 seconds until Azdalin spawns. Enjoy your dragon scale.

Bobby's spot on with the area for the PH. It's HUGE. Azdalin also seems super rare on his cycle; I've gotten Gullerback several times and have yet to see the Azdalin. The biggest challenge to finding/keeping the cycle is simply other people killing stuff.

followed the walk-through on the dragonscales quest. Cleared everything between the two craters south of the fort and after a few hours Azdalin spawned just above the west crater.

I was FM when I wandered into the guy. He proved to have VERY little in the way of magic resistance. I went OOM when he was down to about 30 percent health and the rest of the fight was looong as I kept him snared with the clinging darkness talisman (I'm a DE) and instilled while I slowly medded up for more retributions. Thankfully, there were no adds or I'm sure there would have been a very different result. Had no idea what it was for at the time, guess I'll give the scale to a guildie.
L50 Shaman Solo
# May 22 2003 at 7:00 AM Rating: Default
I have a basic question please? Would a L50 Shaman (w/pet) have a decent chance of soloing this quest to get the Wurmy for an underpriviledged L25 Barbarin warrior please?

If so, what buffs should he get to make it easier please? I assume KEI is obvious. What else please?
RE: L50 Shaman Solo

I would get some summoned equipment for your pet. In particular: Muzzle of Mardoo, Belt of the Magi'not (sp?), and two of the weapons that proc cold damage. Put MR, FR, your best regen spell, Guardian and HoS on both you and the pet. Give yourself a stamina boost. Cast Alacrity and Spirit Quickening on the pet. KEI will make it easier for you to med up to FoM after all the buffs, but it really isn't needed for the fight itself.

I would start the fight by sending the pet in, casting Malaise, your best slow spell, scourge, E-Bolt, heal the pet if needed, then begin pounding on him yourself. Reapply DoTs and debuffs when/if they run out.

GL!

Good advice except the spirit quickening - don't bother with it. Parsed, it makes no difference to your pet's speed. It MAY add a little to dex (and therefore proc rate on the weapons) but that's unconfirmed.

Save the spell slot for Venom of the snake, or a DD (ice strike) if you want to burn on this mob.
Not very hard.

Saw this guy alot in BW, around the giant fort. Always avoided him since I firgured he could cast and beat me down. Well I was feeling frisky so I snared him with my song, then just chanted him down. At level 54 I had no resists on anything, Gullerback has more hps and is harder than this guy.

At level 56 most druids should be able to take this guy with c3. Basically, pull him with Ro's Smouldering Disjunction. That takes his fire resist down by about 66 points - now you can scoriae him non stop. Use Form of the Howler and lev too. Any other little mana regens you can get just make it easier - Spiritual Purity if you have a BL friend, PotG if you have a higher level druid buddy. Then just kite this guy with Scoriae until he's dead. Very doable (at least for a druid - which will probably provoke the usual rants about druids :p)
Scales are lore
# Jun 16 2002 at 4:14 PM Rating: Default
Ok, I just killed both Azdalin and Gyrlin (sp?) and the scales they dropped were lore. It said, A Dragonscale, magic & lore. Gyrlin dropped a wurm scale though, is that the second scale? I don't understand how you turn in 3 scales if the dragonscales are lore. Any help would be nice.
RE: Scales are lore
# Jun 20 2002 at 3:38 AM Rating: Decent
The Scales are different. The lore represents the scale from each particular wurm...ie only one from Gylton, one from Azdalin.

Correct...You can confirm this by using the identify spell.

As a lvl 51 Necro., he conned D. blue to me. The other Wurms have a ton of hp and require me to cast several big DOTs along with my pet to drop them. This guy seemed easier for me to solo them the non-named ones.

I was wonderring if a 44 pally, 49 druid, 49 cleric, 46 pally, 43 pally, and a 45 shaman could kill it? We should be fine, I think, but I dunno. One of the pallies may not be there, but a 41 or 42 enc may take their place. Thank you!
With Necro, Solo is easy, as allways
# Mar 07 2002 at 7:22 AM Rating: Default
I have solo him 2 times yesterday. The wurm has a lot of hps, but with Fm, and darkness, fear, pet, and dot (I only used Venom of snake. Dont use Ignite or fire based spells. High resist), I take him down. I am lvl 45 Necro.

Necros rulez, it's a fact =)

If the necro is over 54 and can't solo Gullerback, he's got some serious issues with his use of spells. Any 54+ necromancer SHOULD be able to solo this guy.

1. Throw Thrall of Bones on any Greater War Bone Skeleton nearby
2. Augment him
3. Watch your pet mow down on Gullerback.

I do this all the time.

What after you kill gullerback?

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 07 2002 at 7:25 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hahahaha, WARRIORS SUX, how can you ask that??? Warriors cant solo anything, warriors cant kill anything, warriors cant do anything, except taking hits to let the real good classes kill the mob. Warriors = Human Shields, nothing else.
RE: can I?
# May 27 2002 at 4:23 AM Rating: Default
Methinks you aren't a cleric. Any warrior wannabe is a cleric's worst nightmare, mana sponge, nonstop heals poured your way. Anyone tank wannabe (ie SK pally . . .) will just use all the clerics mana because they can't take as many hits, so cleric is constantly healing. Before you open that gaping hole in the front of your face, try taking on a hard hitting mob without a warrior, you'll be on a long CR.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 03 2002 at 6:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) warriors = the people that protect your wussy hps
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 10 2002 at 1:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is to the guy that said that warriors suck...you're probably one of the guys that also thinks a druid is a great primary healer. Yes, a warrior takes hits; that's his job, moron, and a warrior takes hits better than any other class in the game. That's a warrior's design. No class in the game sucks, every class has a role. Sure, rangers, paladins and shadowknights can melee AND cast spells, but non have the hitpoints or ac of a warrior. So, next time you open your stupid-*** mouth, you might want to make sure you know what the hell your talking about.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 10 2002 at 1:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Oh to the dumb *** who says warriors suck! Lets take them out of the game for 1 year, and see what happens! Ide love to see a monk or a pali or SK or even a ranger tank a group and not get raped! Also warriors can solo, strap a fungi on him (Yes I have one) And you can solo till level 40 so STFU! You stupid n00b!
RE: can I?
# Jun 06 2002 at 10:01 AM Rating: Decent
actually you can solo all the way to 50 pretty easily ( fungi makes it much easier/faster ) after 50 , I imagine it gets signifigantly harder to find mobs that won't require a healer in order to make xp at a decent rate ....
RE: can I?
# Jun 06 2002 at 2:39 AM Rating: Default
the only place a warrior is a must have tank is a mob that needs to be tanked using the defensive disc. a pally/sk is actually a better tank in an exp group due to the ability to raise their aggro by using spells. trust me, i see warriors fight for aggro on smaller raids and in groups all the time. i fire off a few spells and mobs stick to me like glue.
RE: can I?
# Aug 14 2002 at 11:20 AM Rating: Default
FYI a Warrior is a must for any well balenced group sure you can get along with out one but but your healer will go OOm trying to keep up the health of your wanna be tank, No other class can match the AC/HP's of a warrior. And as for keeping agro. It sound like the warriors you have been grouped with either have no idea how to fight or lack the proper weapons, I see many Warriors while grouped 2handing it, try telling them to duel wield with low ratio weaps. and continualy tuant. I have np keeping agro off my casters and healers, Keep the 2hander for soloing when you meed the high dmg rates. Just my 2 cp's worth.
RE: can I?
# Aug 26 2006 at 2:42 AM Rating: Decent
i am a cleric and i say i would rather an sk or a pally ( equivilant gear to a warrior oif the same lvl ) any day due to there ability to hold aggro if a pally or an sk wants to the can take aggro form just about any warrior ( not including a warrior with a blade of carnage) and sk's have the ability to life tap a decent amount so yea they still need a healer but they can life tap to quit an impressive point. the only time a warrior is a must is if its a raid encounter mob and deffensive disc must be used

RE: can I?
# Apr 14 2002 at 5:44 AM Rating: Decent
To actually answer your question...No, you wouldn't be able to solo him as a warrior, you would need some kind of healer, preferably a cleric though, since they are the best of the healers. And to answer the guy that says warriors can't solo, HAHAHA..they can, even without a fungi tunic, or any buffs at all, I have a warrior and spend a lot of time soloing for the hell of it.
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 26 2002 at 4:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) where do they spawn and i know what u mean im a lvl 20 war and im walking around with some pretty good weapons but then i walk by a stinkin lvl 2 and hes got like the best armour and weapons posssible because his stupid lvl 60 got him the stuff. i mean i dont mind him twinking him like that but its just makes my character look like hes nothing compared to those guys.

Umm a slower? 2 of the classes he listed can slow atleast 50% at the level they are. Still would be a very tough fight for 6 people in that level range, even if you didn't get any adds ( which is *VERY* unlikely )
