In the Tower of Frozen Shadow: Part of the fifth encounter within the Tower of Frozen Shadow anniversary raid (see this quest entry for raid information).

In Karnor's Castle:

The Main items in his loot table are the Leggings for the various Kunark Class specific armor, as well as a line of two handed blunt staves for casters.

Background: Venril Sathir was the leader of the Iksar Empire who united the five tribes and brought them together to conquer most of the continent of Kunark.

Their rising power eventually attracted the attention of the Lords of the Ring of Scale (read: the Dragons of Veeshan's Peak). It was the mighty Trakanon who took it upon himself to wreak war upon the Iksar Empire, casting down this Necromancer leader.

Venril Sathir managed to cheat death somehow and now focuses on regaining the Iksar throne from his stronghold in Karnor's Castle.

Sounds about right.

Most Kunark raid mobs are 1-group doable now. We got him ealrier with 9 people, was total overkill. Mostly 60+. I'm confident our MT, 65 pally, could have soloed him.

Hello, just looking for clarification on VS's spawn cycle......
Please correct me if this is inaccurate: VS spawns, then killed, VS spirit spawns, then killed or handed something, VSR spawns, then killed or handed something, then 72 (+/-10) hours VS respawns, repeat cycle.
Overkill -- new raid requirements

I killed VS yesterday, 22 July 2003, for the wizard epic drop. He also dropped cobalt legs, blackened bones, and something else I've already forgotten. We had MAJOR overkill for VS. My main is a 65 bard and lulled everything to solo-pull (even VS was lulled). We had 15 or so toons, mostly 65s. 3 clerics, 1 war, 1 ranger, 2 rogues, 3 druids, 1 chanter, 1 wizard, 2 necros and some others. VS was bard-slowed, and we engaged. 28 seconds later he was dead. Druids nuked and clerics never had to heal. He never tapped the MA or even hit the MA in that amount of time. We owned him BAD. At this point, I think a group of 6 VT/Planar-empowered 65s can take him cake. Good to know for future. I would recommend having a chanter to rune you if you only have 1 group since the DPS will be far less and you can assume he'll tap by then. Solo-pulling his 4 guards is a must as 2+ of them will CH him.

took him out recently with 3 of us, so 6 would also be overkill.

65 Enchanter (me), 65 cleric, 65 Shadowknight. I got to tank too..

Considering that it would deprive lower levels a chance for their epics, there will almost certainly be a level cap placed on these if that type of thing starts becoming commonplace....see Manaburn nerfage,

I am a 65 Arch Lich with all my spells and I used 65 Warrior pet + Pet heal ... I have 3 in theft of life so I got a lot of 2k heals + shadowbond ... He wasn't really "hard" but he took forever ... Even with my Seduction of Saryn my mana was tight ... But I soloed him, it took about 30 minutes I think ...

I have soloed some of the older dragons, so it wasn't anything unexpected ... But it was fun and something to add to my list :)

This is for the Real VS (not triggered spawn for ranger/druid epics):

Main Tank - 60 Pally as mentioned below, or Warrior with good MR (200+) and HP

Enchanter - Who casts (in order) Tash, cripple, slow, then stuns him for rest of fight

Wizards - 2 or more, chain casting spellshield on the MT (lvl 58+ spell)

Healers - 2 or more clerics, chain casting small heals on the MT, not CH to avoid aggro

Then as much melee DPS as you can get on his back to take him down quick.

Game plan is MT runs in and pops furious /disc to gain aggro on VS, as chanter casts the cycle above. When disc runs out, MT calls engage to the rest of the raid who run in and attack VS's back. ONLY heal the MT, if others get aggro let them die, as healing them will only heal VS as he lifetaps.

This is mostly compiled from the posts below, thanks for the tips =), but tried it earlier with a 20 man raid, and it worked a charm (we only had 1 wizzie and 1 stunner as well, but take more to be safe). Lost 1, the chanter, early on. VS lifetapped a few times but MT was never in much danger and after 50% VS went down very quickly. Secret is defeating the lifetap, killing him quickly, and having a disciplined raid.

Sometime this past Fall (Sep-Oct), I was there with a small group hoping to kill VSR-VS. VSR roamed into the back while we were waiting for night to summon the firefly globe to spawn the easy VS and VSR poofed and VS popped in his place. Most of the people left but we were gonna try him with the remaining 5 (2 were bots). Anyway, my point: as the chanter, I tashed, then crippled and slowed. Except of course, that after the tash I still got resists on all the cripples and slows (about 5 crips and 3-4 slows). Hence, I'd say those don't land. As to stuns, I didn't find out since we exodused.

12 People, 3 of which chain stunning him, apart from a few resists, at which point he went and killed the ONLY cleric, MA, SA were in different rooms, and prety much a SK and casters nuking the hell out of him, died in about 1min max, but the sad thing is some tw@ ninja looted my epic piece!!

This guy is very easy for an epic mob. Has about double the hp of the trees in PoN. Not alot at all if you really think about it. Rune the MA up, let him establish his agro, then let it all out. Gotta jack him up fast or he gets ugly tho. Two groups averaging 56 or so smoked this guy ..

This guy has gotten way too easy (1 full group and one half-group took him down today in under a minute, and we didn't even average 60), as have many of the epic mobs. It's time for post-PoP epics that don't require zone-flags or other silly things. Quests that, like the Kunark-era epics can be done early (say at 50-55) solo for most of the (long) quest and only requires an average strength raid force of 60+ for the last one or two steps.

I really hope they do that, because the "hey, my epic mob is up" sorts of raids can be the best, and most rewarding part of EQ for me!

Hey SOE! Think real hard: is EQ mostly populated by players who will ever see PoTime or by folks who would do a new line of epics...?

24 hours, more or less a few minutes and it goes kinda like this :

a) VS (the real) dies
b) 12 hours later, VSR spawns
c) Some DRU and/or RNG group kill the gimp VS
d) 12 hours later, the real VS is back up !

Now, onto what people really want !

Sit thigh, you're in for a max of TWELVE (12) hours. I camped the darn place for 3 days in a row, missing spawn time by few secs in worse cases. Venril is free for all so be sure to grab a bunch of peeps to take it down as it pops.

Work your way from entrance to LCY. Fight drolvarg sentries down and up the stairs. IVU entire parties, head to "hand" but take the two right turns just beforegetting there. Walk your way to "prep", enjoy the show !

All posts are to consider here to beat the REAL VS for WIZ epics. The fight will be easy with 2/3 clerics, and chanter in group #1. DPS and nukers in group #2 if need be ! Remember to have that pally with you... you'll be amazed to see slaps of 1500+ in Venril's face !!!

If you're lucky, loot staff and gratz. If not, come back in 24 :( Anyway, sit, camp there, take a walk and come back in 11 hours. Chances are VSR will be there, waiting for you. For RNG and DRU epics, same process, group #2 really NOT necessary !

All in all, VS (triggered one) did NOT lifetap our pally, not even once. He is a GIMP compared to the real SOB and in a "12 hours" camp, you can make 3 of your guildies advance in their epics, grab ER3 bracer for casters and a few AAXP !

P.-S. I would like everyone to agree that zones like KC should have a rule : EXIT ON RIGHT... just like driving... NEVER pull trains on both sides on entrance !!! Please, pretty please !

This guy is Godlike in power. Has two taps, one for 1000 (hits VERY frequently) and another for 800-ish (hit frequently), of which both are totally unresistable. His melee damage is gimp, it's the taps you have to be able to deal with if you want to take him down.

I did VS a few months ago with about 2 groups alot in thier 50s...MT & BT went down in like 30 secs...
My pet 62 beast pet at the time...took over and tanked him with NP.....:)

I wish that someone had solid info on the spawn time of VS, after he is killed does his timer start after VSR is killed or after he is taken down, and is it still 72 hours?

A couple of weeks ago my guild decided to do Reavers in CoM, when we got to CoM the reavers were taken, so we decided to go to KC and see if VSR was up. He was, so slowly we made our way to the room he spawns in. VSR (the iksar skelly) was just chilling in the middle of the room (he has a funny animation of pulling his own head off). We gathered and had to wait a while for night to fall so we could cast Dance of the Fireflies for some reason i cant remember. Eventually we did the turn ins, 2 groups of mostly 50-60 (we had a 40 druid and a 65 ranger, but rest were 50ish) waited while MA took the aggro, then melee pounced. Our MA was dead in about a minute, but VS dropped a few seconds later. The 40 druid and a 51 druid won the rolls for the stones. Evac'd group to entrance to regroup for CR. Was fun, 2 guildies got epic stones, and i got a nice screenshot of our guildleaders corpse spooning with VS's corpse =).

I have a question here.. to spawn the VSR remain we have to kill the first L55 VS and then wait 24 hours in camp for VSR to spawn? Please help me to clarify this and if yes who should stay in camp after the main killing of VS in hope to wait for VSR to spawn. Will guildies do that for each other? I find it unreasoable have to let the computer run 24 hours waiting for a mob. If after we kill the VS and leave camp in hope 24 hours later we come again to claim won't other groups be there and harvest the benefits of that?

Anyone has reasonable answers for my question please?

No you don't have to camp the spot for 24 hours straigt. Yes, when you log back in after 24 hours another group may be there to take VSR down. No, in general guild mates won't camp this for 24 hours because it is not a rar spawn. Best suggestion is to find out who killed VS when and be there when VSR spawns.

so how to kill it ? well it must be INSTANT FIGHT ,u must own VS the faster u can ,the main tank pull ,take agro 2 sec and then everybody on VS !
u must explod it very fast before it begins to life tap ,cause VS doesn t life tap at the beginning ,more u wait and more it will ... so kill it fast ...

Ok I got my staff last night!! YAY!! here is the info I have to pass on....Vs was killed on my server Friday around 5ish pm, then he spawned again sunday around 7ish pm . Spawned again wed morning at 1am. So, i believe hes not on a 72 or 48 hour timer....thats what I have found from
the hours and hours I camped. Might help a little. i think hes just ramdon and pops about 2 to 3 days most of the time. Dont Quote me on that though thats just what I experienced hehe. we took him with roughly 2 groups. Hope this helps....=)

It's mainly due to confusion. During the druid/ranger epics you give an item to "Venril Sathir's Remains" to spawn "Spirit of Venril Sathir" and then give a ressurection scroll to spawn "Venril Sathir". A lot of people wrongly think:

a) That VS is easy because they fought the triggered VS who proc's once or twice in a fight instead of every couple second.
b) That the loot tables are the same, which they aren't. The triggered one has 2 epic stones and blackened iksar bones only.

For those fighting the real VS there are a few strategies:
1) Use the 58th level wizard spell named 'Spellshield' to absorb the 1500hp lifetap's. Two wizard's can rotate it on a MA.
2) Cripple VS, it should lower his chance to proc.
3) If the MA's a warrior you have a couple choices of disciplines. Evasive to lower your chance of being hit dramatically, or perhaps Furious with a high Damage weapon. Defensive doesn't help that much on a mob who's damage output is mainly the lifetap. There are several other various things that can help like runes to soak up some of the hp damage, etc. There are other tactics out there, I'm just not as familiar with them.

Btw, Furious is 9 sec auto-riposte discipline. It lets the warrior avoid damage and automatically hit each of VS's attacks. With a 40 or 50 damage weapon(Weight Axe, Tantor's Tusk) and maxed str and high attack you might riposte 150-300 damage per VS attack. This lets you build up tons of aggro, and at 9 seconds the high damage classes hammer him while the healers heal you.

It's been at least six months since I've killed him, but I don't recall ever seeing a faction hit when I have. Yes, I know that it would be odd that he wouldn't hate you more for killing him, but the VS faction is one that my inkie wizard has been very sensitive about keeping out of KoS.

It's certainly a far less useful faction since the PoP release, but after turning in hundreds of those darn berserker braids, keeping her faction allied is a matter of principle :)



Also, does anyone else find it a bit twisted that most people want to kill him because he drops pants and will give you a gnarled staff?

Think about it now, cringe later.

Hey all,
Was in KC the other night and a group took down VSR. (Unfortunately, I wasn't in it--both stones were taken, and I wasn't one of the takers.) He showed up as yellow on track, and I'm 54...so is the epic version 55 as well?

There must have been some confusion, and that must have been the real VS. He's L55 and would show up as Yellow on your track. It is possible that VS spawned while the group you mentioned was gathering for VSR... if that happened, then VSR would have immediately despawned. (DOH!!)

Does anyone know if the "Real Venril Sathir" (i.e. the L55 one who spawns in back, not the L51 VS who spawns from VSR when someone does the Ranger/Druid Epic turnin) drops the "Pulsing Green Stone" for the Ranger/Druid Epic quest? Please only post if you have very solid info (first hand hopefully), there is already a lot of confusion on this point!
