In the Tower of Frozen Shadow: Part of the fifth encounter within the Tower of Frozen Shadow anniversary raid (see this quest entry for raid information).

In Karnor's Castle:

The Main items in his loot table are the Leggings for the various Kunark Class specific armor, as well as a line of two handed blunt staves for casters.

  • Mesmerizable: No

Background: Venril Sathir was the leader of the Iksar Empire who united the five tribes and brought them together to conquer most of the continent of Kunark.

Their rising power eventually attracted the attention of the Lords of the Ring of Scale (read: the Dragons of Veeshan's Peak). It was the mighty Trakanon who took it upon himself to wreak war upon the Iksar Empire, casting down this Necromancer leader.

Venril Sathir managed to cheat death somehow and now focuses on regaining the Iksar throne from his stronghold in Karnor's Castle.

i am pretty sure he is a 1 weeks spawn..... if you are trying to get him for the epic then you need to wait like 24 hours after the real one is killed befor you can do the quest for it... otherwise i don't know

Hey everyone, please realize that this Venril Sathir is not the druid/ranger mob. The Venril Sathir Remains spawns the mob most of you are thinking about. And you are correct, that one can be taken by 2 groups.

This Venril Sathir is the real one and requires a raid. He is different because he melee lifetaps for 1500 quite frequently. If you don't chain rune a main tank to prevent the lifetaps your raiding party is dead.

Vibrating Gaunts/Hammer of Infuse is a rare drop from Overking Bathezid in Chardok. Chardok's a harder zone than KC and up until the "revamping" it would be hard to find a group there because of the linear layout and the patrollers. the overking can be done with as few as 6 people, but pulling him is incredibly hard with that few...expect puller to die

The leggings are the rarest part of his loot table and no he does not drop at least one pair each time.

If he is level 55 why can't a level 55 solo him? (or does anyone know a lvl 55 that can solo this guy?)

Just wondering, thanks for any info.

RE: Level 55
# Oct 08 2001 at 11:46 PM Rating: Excellent
the same reason a why it takes more then a group to kill Naggy even at 52 (or even a gorup of 53 to kill ragefire). I mean it is nearly impossiable for you to solo something past the level 50. VS is one tough ****. He lifetaps for like 2000 hps. In game lore it took Trakanon to take him down. You ever try to kill Trak?

Um Yeah, anyway...

Previous poster is correct, even or higher cons become harder and harder to kill as you gain levels and ranks. Upon reaching 45-50+ (depending on class) you might as well forget it. Verant has ensured that mobs at these levels have special powers that make them above and beyond the skills of any single PC, or at the very least skills that mobs simply do not have under what we consider normal circumstances (IE Gate, Complete Heal, etc.). All this requires new tactics, and forces players to do what VI really intended all along...group!

At this point (post 45-50) the level of a mob really only determines how much EXP you get from killing it, not what powers that may have. Of course there are exceptions, overcons, undercons, and the like, as Verant has seen fit the change the rules to suit themselves and the joy of the game. After all it is believed most of the Gods are only levels 61-65, but that certainly doesn't make a god Soloable to a level 60...
Using Rune???
# Sep 30 2001 at 10:39 PM Rating: Default
The strategy that i'm sure most everyone uses is to have the main tank build up some agro for a few seconds while he is getting chain runed by a few enchnaters. Then send in the rest of melee to attack VS from behind and Nuke him dead at around 50%. The problem, however, is that Rune has stacking problems with enchanters of different lvls. We had 3 chanters that were lvl 54, 55, 59 and the lower lvl Runes couldn't be cast if the higher enchanter had rune still up on the tank. What is the best way to do it if all chanters are different lvls? Have one chanter chain cast till oom and then have the next go etc? Problem with this is whether the cast time is too long. Maybe Rune 3? Rune 5 just seems so much better, but even Rune 3 takes about 4.5 secs to cast. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
This guy really isn't that tough

I have only been on two raids on him, so take my advice as needed. The first time we took him out we only had two full groups. We had 4 warriors, 2 in each group, 2 clerics 1 for each group, 2 lvl 60 Pallys, 1 Shaman, 1 enchatner, 1 Mag, and 1 Wiz. This group rocked, We had the Pallys up front Obviousy because of being lvl 60, and also they have Lay Hands, which we did ned a couple of times, you will need as many hps aspossible so Buffs are necessary. Pallys both had to use lay hands on themselves, forget it if he hits you with the 1500 life and you are a caster, you will be finished, so let the Pally's work up spawn, it would also not hurt to have a SUPER High lvl Cleric with you for stuns. This guy was hitting me for 330, and Life tapped me once for 1500, it hurt really bad, but with bufffs, I had a few shy of 3000 hps, which one tap shuts you down. Also, make sure that everyone has a pet out, all the help the better, Shammy's pets, Chanter pets(incase for some reason he doens't like the Chanter. and a mage's pet also is nice to have on your side. I have never had a necro with our group, But necro's DoT's are really nice, also Shammy's have great High lvl DoT's

We are planning another raid on him, I am hoping to finally score me some Cobalt. If you are on the Bertoxx server, and are interested, give me a tell. I love to raid this guy, and I think my guild is getting tired of KC, we shall see what happens, I will post the results.

I'm still a long away away from raids, so this is a bit of a newbie question. But you mentioned using Necros and DoT's on this guy. And I thought that when raiding mobs with this kind of power that you'd want to kill him as fast as possible, correct?

So wouldn't a DoT be counterproductive, working as a mana drain for your casters that are runing and/or healing your tanks that keep getting lifetapped for 1,500?

Wouldn't an assembly of Wizzies or Mages simply be more efficient?

Ah well, you've raided him and I haven't. So I defer to your experience over my theory. Just curious as to about how long it takes to bring this guy down. Cause if it's not going to take very long once you get the right group or groups organized, then DoT's would probably be a bad idea, right?

A lifetap from a necro would more or less spell death to the necro who lifetapped him, it can cause the mob to agro if not done at the right time. A Bond of Death on this guy causes little to no agro when main tank has his attention , once cast the necros can then be a secondary healer for the tanks and not even gain agro for healing them.
At level 52 I can Lich bond of death a mob then heal a tank without loosing health if I use the pact serise of spells. And still keep mana at 90% so if the casters go oom then feed them all I have left .

NBG
# Sep 18 2001 at 8:39 PM Rating: Default
Umm. Real quick. I saw a lot of talk about NBG and whether it is good or not. I agree in full that if a warrior only item drops, the warriors roll on it. BUT I also read a lot of peoples crap saying 'why do casters need good armor, they aren't tanks?' Umm hello. If we die, how do we heal you? I play a druid Wis gives me more mana to keep you alive, or to nuke the thing up the ***. I'm not saying a wizard should be able to loot a warrior item, but get it straight. We need good equipment as much as you do. Hehe, this'll work. Everyone stop whining.

If cobalt greaves dropped and any other class than warrior got to roll on the item I would quit my guild. Any other way of doing it is just stupid. Most guilds that are high enough lvl to kill him will know who the item is going to if it drops or how things will be rolled for.
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 28 2001 at 6:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Clericguy tells the group, 'NBG? Well I NEED Money so I'mma loot your bp, *****! You gotta problem wit that? Fine! No heals for j00!'

Killed him the other day
# Sep 07 2001 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
I was with a group that kiled this guy the other day for a druid epic item. I was in a LCY group and they asked us for help, so I did not set up the mob strike. We killed him with about 20 people I think, with 9 of them being fellow monks like myself all 50+.

The main tank was a lvl 58 monk who was in the druid's guild and all the healers and enchanters chain runed him. I think he was using his discipline that enabled him to automatically repost every attack. We let him get agro built up for like 5 seconds before assisting.

The first attempt failed cause our main healer went LD right after we started figthing. Then we all ran for our lives although no one was really hurt. I just followed orders as usual when in a large group and didnt ask any questions. The next time we killed him no problems and all i had was haste and attack buffs. Evidently the key is keeping the main tank alive or everyone else dies regardless of buffs, etc...

Hope this helps,

Shuyung Softfist

Venril Sathir has about 18k hp's I believe. He can be taken down with 3 or 4 groups easily depending on the lvls of your raiding party. 3 groups of 60's should be able to do him easily. Rune the tanks and keep the Main tank runed otherwise his lifetap will eat the tank alive. Chain heal if ya have to, and get the casters to Nuke him once hes low. At the end hopefully some melee class has some shiney new legs. Thanks Im done.

VSR (venril sathirs remains) were up today, but somone maid VS spawn so we got 7 groups of guys to go there, then we killed everything but him. after that somone tried to pull him, befor they got to us they died, 2nd puller brought to us, then like 5 people fell dead, he claws me for like 300, dosr a 1500pt life tap i am dead, then i see a group mait in FV where i was bound they said not even close everyone died, moral of the story don't mess with him)))
Lifetap

Our guild tried to kill him and he wiped out our tanks with a lifetap. The tanks said it said " you feel a tugging at your soul" and it was like a 1500 lifetap.
