Lord Rak`Ashiir

Raid Encounter

Uploaded July 24th, 2007

Lord Rak'Ashiir is one of the Overlords of the City of Mist. He spawns from the last corpse of his elite Black Reavers. He looks like a huge floating ghost Iksar, but he was not undead. At least not then.

Only the quest-respawned version drops the Iksar Scale for the shaman epic.

Lord, Lord, Not lord

i think a few peeps have their Lords and such mixed up,

Lord Rak ashir final kill for shammy epic is NoN kos to most(least every person ive ever hunted with) if you did kill any of the true spirit faction mobs(ghost wolves or the wandering spirit in WK, looks like a willowisp) then you prolly kos but not sure

Neh ashir Raks wife 2nd to last kill for sham epic and one of the kills for mage, this is the mob you turn the promise ring into (thats the ring you get from Krin in the hole)

and Lord grisok this is the mob you need to kill(as a sham) to get the books you turn into the spirit sentinal in EJ( not the one under water the one in the tower)

so for everyone thats calling Neh ashir Lord, thats wrong maybe Dutchess or what ever the wife of a Lord is called but shes not a lord,(unless shes a cross dresser)

How to kill Rak
# Sep 12 2002 at 11:13 AM Rating: Decent
Hi,

I am a level 56 Magician who has done the Rak fight many many times. As a matter of fact, just killed him again last night.

You simply need to pull Rak to one of the long alleys on either side of the castle. DO NOT fight him on the bridge. He will fall in almost every time.

Once you have reaver/Rak positioned in the curve of the U shaped alley that you are in, you just need to back everyone else waaaaaaaay back up. Keep clerics and other healers a bit behind the magician at all times. Rak has a nasty AE. People who try to be heros die very quickly.

Everyone will throw buffs on the pet and the mage will send in pet. Healers simply rotate heals on the pet and noone gets in AE range. The mage usually throws in his own little heal as well and keeps Rak away from the water with the use of pet control. After about 10 minutes, Rak will die and all is well. =)

Just FYI We didn't have any mages and levels about 45 - 55 maybe 18 - 21 of us?... we took him down with a LOT OF problems, I MEAN People were dieing left and right but we bound right there and respawned and kept fighting, we eventually killed him... and of course the shaman didn't realize you needed a tear to get the scale... so it was a waste of a great effort. Was fun as hell though :) Reminded me of my days when casters had to mad rush Vox and Naggy for FM :), not sure if this info helps anyone, but it's nice to know players don't need pets to take him... I personally was main tank lvl 54 Shadowknight , didn't need heals I Just rushed in looted my Shard of night and Sarnak Battle shield each time and kept fighting eventually he slowly died... I had maybe 9 - 13 corpses... went down to lvl 53... got rezzed 96% Each time so n/p for me I don't like my SK much anyway ... ---- anyway I have my shaman now lvl 40... and I want to take him to get this... now in the walk through it says you just have to turn in tear, and you auto get Scale... no fight needed.... anyone clarify this for me please? greatly appreciate it :).

Mage-challenged but no deaths

The mage fire pet tactic is safe and well-known but as I found out, not necessary. We had 17 total people but only a handful were involved in killing him. A strong 60 warrior, cleric, and rogue did most of the work. Everyone who could not take the AoE pretty much enjoyed the show. Nobody died.

Tidbits that I hope will help others:
* AoE appeared to be two ticks of 1k each. Many were resisted.
* Lord Rak can be mem blurred. This was useful since he will often be prematurely attacked, and you need to hand in the iksar scale if you are doing this for the epic.
* Fire and ice lures were both partially resisted. He briefly aggroed on a wizard, only to cast bonds of force, which was resisted, and went back to the tank.
* Taking him down with a couple high-resist melees is actually rather quick, took a couple minutes.
* This can be done multiquest at least in some cases. Worked with max Truespirit shaman doing hand-in, different max ally shaman doing looting.
* AoE range was small.

Not anymore, now you have to kill him to get the scale. Has been that way for as long as I have been playing, since April of 01.

LOL gotta love people that call other people idiots/fools when they have no idea what they are talking about...

Rak IS KoS to people with bad Truespirit faction. He is NOT indifferent to me. He IS dubious.
To some he is indifferent. A certain wizard and paladin in my guild are KoS to him.
We have to CoTH them past him when on raids.

I loged in to day and he was up, but not in the castle but floating in the courtyard just outside the Stable, kinda strange I think.
Despawn time?
# May 18 2002 at 9:11 PM Rating: Decent
Any one happen to know how long he stays up for?
If he has a despawn time, after you turn in final item to him?

Yes this sounds bad, yes a guild didn't prepare properly before sending in the pets. Any info would be nice.
How to take him down
# May 15 2002 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
My guild took him down with just 2 fire pets. After the shaman gave him the tear, he pulled him to a spot just below his spawn point. Then the fire pets were sent in , fully buffed and hasted. The clerics and other healers kept assisting the lord so they were healing the fire pet that was being attacked at the time. We took only one casualty due to that person moving his character too close to the Lord. Stay out of his aggro area. Let the pets do all the work.

How to do the epic
# Apr 01 2002 at 9:45 AM Rating: Default
Ok ppl U HAVE to give Lord Rak the iksar tear in order for him to drop the iksar scale.
If you just kill him outright without giving him the tear you wont get the scale.

Good Luck and Enjoy the Epic!

Lord Rak'Ashiir isn't that hard as many players use to claim. Be aware though of his casts. I will answer to the most common questions other Shamans asks me when they want to get this NPC.

1. How do I spawn Lord Rak?
Answer: Lord Rak use to be up the most times, though not always. Ask a rogue with minimum 200 pick lock skill to open the door. Enter the room and camp the left corner from there. A chanter should mez everything around fast and tanks should be start clearing the room.

To respawn Rak send a puller (Preferable a high-end Monk) to clear the area around the entrance room first from Goo's, Skeleton's, Specs, etc. and finally when you ready pull the Reavers (Golems) a Tracker should tell you where they are.

Usually Rak spawns after you've killed the 5 Reavers one after the other. Though it might sometimes be less than so, Since a group can have been there before you and tried to respawn Rak without suceess with a couple of reaver kills before giving up.

2. Lord Rak spawned what do I do now?
Do not let your tanks, or puller hit him. If they do that misstake simply do not assist them. Just back off and let them die. Cleric will rez them thereafter.
Be sure to have at least one Magician with you. You NEED his fire pet. This cause fire pet resists Rak's awful fire casts. 1 Fire pet is enough, be sure though that Cleric, Semi healers, Hybrid class healers have Mage's pet targeted, buffed and healed constantly during the fight.
During that fight do not even think to get close. You will simple die from his AE. just let pet solo Rak. Rak want escape, gate or anything or train you, if you not win his aggro ofcrouse.

3. With one Mage pet the fight will be kinda long, show patience if only one Mage is present, Rak will drop sooner or later. You tanks should in mean while look around for pops in the entrance room and keep it clear.

4. Wizards (if any present) Do not nuke before Rak passed 50% of his HP's. You will gain aggro and die. If he is down to 50% try and nuke him. Remember though that he resists alot.

5. Lord Rak'Ashiir is unslowable. Do not try to slow him as you will gain his aggro.
Shamans here follows a list that might be usefull to know what mobs are slowable and what mobs are not.

Good Luck fellas! Enjoy the Shaman Epic. It is great fun!

Rak wont gate even as long pet is still alive. Just spelled it wrong /sigh. When everything is setup for the fight hand the tear, stay there and simple die. Trying to heal yourself just keeps you a few seconds alive. Rak is programmed to kill you anyway, or anyone that tries to CH. Just stand there after you hand him the Child's Tear, die and let pet aggro on him :)

Today I got in on a COm raid. the raid pulled reavers and castle spawns outside to the moat area. several hours later we got Rak to spawn as the last reaver was killed. We all sat down medded up and buffed the heck out of 2 mage pets. I turned in the tear, got hit by that "fire dot" or what ever it is then pets agroed. I respawned got Coh'ed to fight spot. in fear that Rak would gate as everyopne has reported i looted my shield and went to slam, asI got to him i was hit by "Pain and suffering" and died immediately. Not sure if this is a Ht , DT or dd/dot spell but im sure someone will know. By the time i reapawned this time Rak was dead, no melee ever got into fight, Rak didnt gate, and didnt CH. Thats the way it went down. All in all Rak was easy I now have my Epic WOOT Thanks all that helped--Wanadcea Xegony server
Waxed him
# Sep 29 2001 at 7:42 AM Rating: Good
Waxed this guy today.

Basically, we summoned 2 49 fire pets, 1 focused, 1 not. The focused one we made sure was also higher level. He was already up when we came in. Pulled him off to the left of the castle, and let the fire pets go to town.

Reasoning for the 1 focused was to concentrate the damage on him. Clerics, Druids, and the Shaman all healed pets. Only had 1 bard, no chanter, so we grouped most of the healers in with the bard for manasong. Was a long fight, but we won it, and our shaman got her epic. Dropped Ornate Runed Blade.

I'm a tank, and I've NEVER felt more useless in my life. We sat behind the casters and waited to jump any adds or respawns. Pets were fully buffed, had them buffed like you would any tank- Haste, Burnout, Talisman, Regen, Etc. Didn't seem to dispell. Didn't seem to try and gate, although if he did, probably wouldn't have seen the message.

No one at all cast anything at him.

If I had to do it over again, I'd have had my healers /ooc their heals, and probably given the pets some cheap procing weapons- Whips of Strangulation, maybe gnoll hide lariats if he does Gate/Cheal/whatever other people have seen.

Did NOT see a grav flux, or if he did, pets resisted it. I think some people are confusing him with Lord Neh`Ashir, who did grav flux.

Did not death touch. The Shaman, the Monk (Puller), and both fire pets lived the whole time. From what I read, he has a V NASTY AoE DoT which does (Again, read, not confirmed) 2k damage in 1 tick, which could easily been confused, since most people, even 50plus, would die to that. Heck, an unpreparred warrior that took some melee damage could go down to that.

We also spawned and Kill Lord Giosk and Lord Neh`Ashir that raid- I assum Rak spawns same way, just like most people posted. Pull a Reaver, Kill it, keep killing it till one of the lords pops, Kill the Lord.

Ghoisk aggrod us, the other two lords did not, but that just could be an overeager tank for us on Ghoisk, or he could have been slightly different faction. Ghoisk was yellow to a 51, and conned Ready to Attack, (Friendly mobs you aggro usually con threatening), so I think at very least aggro to Iksar Warriors. Other 2 non aggro, non assist, and I beleive both red to a 51, least on the pops I just killed.
The Lord
# Aug 19 2001 at 1:21 PM Rating: Decent
Three times last night with full Lanys coalition raid, about 25 people.

First attempt, while cleaning the room around him, somebody didn't use *assist* (shame shame shame), aggrod the Lord, and about 20 of us died in quick succession.

Second attempt, two fire pets killed him, all the melee and non healer, non mage classes hung out in the hallway behind the main room. Smooth. Dropped ORB.

Third attempt, two fire pets killed him, just as smooth as the second try. Dropped ORB and shield.

This is a pop that can either wipe 20 people out, or be killed by two pets and a few healers. Hats off to good leadership, people who listen, and thank you for my ORB. =)

RE: Faction?
# Aug 02 2001 at 5:55 PM Rating: Default
yeah he is on true spirit, if your faction isn't high enough when you turn the tear in he won't attack you and you've just wasted your time.

as for killing him, the 56 fire pet, dryzl's, works much better for tanking him. it has around 2500 hps and a higher DS. fight is long and boring and sometimes the room repops on you. easy enough to do, just don't fight him in the first room.

simply pull the reaver out of the castle to the waterside. then max repops are like 3 or 4 instead of 10ish.

all the reavers seem to be on a 2 hour respawn time. killed him 4 times in a row and only got the blade, shield is deffinately rare.
Rak'Ashiir
# Jun 23 2001 at 12:30 PM Rating: Default
Well my guild Hall Of Heroes on MT dropped this guy about 4 times cause some other guild must have been pharming reavers and left these goodies for someone else to deal with. We had 4 mages 2 55 plus.

2 groups

2 mages per group
2 Chanters per group
1 Cleric per

we usually let the fire pets die and summon a new one cause 200 mana beats 400(for complete heal) any day.

we started mana seiving him at about 50

and we CotH'd the chanters and healers multiple times because the first time he did take aggro onto a cleric and casted his AoE dot killed the whole group. so just keep CotH'ing and you should be fine main problem is the pull hoping he won't finish off your tank =)

when he gates he will summon all the people who attacked him one by one and kill them. So don't let him gate, after you get the hang of it becomes really easy hoped this helped (oh and keep the two groups seperated so just in case he gets aggro on on healer and that group dies you'll still have the other)

Last night, when we got to CoM, to our surprise, there was already 2 Lord Rak'Ashiir up, as well as his reaver also up (thanks to previously floppy raids, I guess).

First one we killed was level 53. Just after the left house, under the archway. Stuck 2 fire pets on it, both level 49. 2 clerics healing them, as well as various shamans and druids. Piece of cake. Dropped Atramentous Shield.

Second one was on first floor of castle (where Ghiosk reaver was). Pulling undeads and golems and the black reaver will not aggro Lord Rak'Ashiir. Killed Ghiosk and proceded to get the same tactics on the second Rak'Ashiir. This one was level 55. I pulled it to archway so we would have some room. At 10 percent, he gated. We thought we had lost it in the wall, but he just gated. When he gates, he looses the aggro. He also gates where we found him, on first floor of castle, on the left side columns. Stupid me pulled it again and he gated on us again. We then moved to the castle and killed him there (he didnt gate this time anyway), again with 2 49 fire pets. Dropped Ornate Runed Blade.

Main comments are then:
-Many Rak'Ashiir can be up at same time
-Rak will not aggro if you pull anything close to him.
-Rak will not always gate
-Range can be 53-55 at least
-When he gates, aggro is cleared
-2 level 49 fire pets are enough
-Gate point is on first floor of castle or probably where the reaver died and spawned him, but not where the reaver was (on second floor)

I was one of the mages there to kill him. The shammy hands in his epic stuff, the kos rak pops and promptly hits any one with low fire resist with that insane dot.

It seemed to me that the first tick of the dot did no damage. My hp bar didn't move at least. Come the second tick my finger wiggling *** hit the floor. Welcome to Trakannons Teeth =P

We had 2 other mages besides me and rak died quickly enough. That dot droped about half our party of 30 or so though. Neh'ashiir has nothin on this guy.

If your patient you can do him with just one pet, I mean very patient. We dropped him with one lvl49 mage pet and one cleric. Of course my lvl30 sk pet helped a bit too.
RE: one pet
# Jan 05 2002 at 2:13 AM Rating: Decent
Just took him down with one pet as well. We only had one 55 Mage, and honestly we didn't plan on fighting this guy at all...he just happened to be up and figured since we had two clerics, a bard and an enchanter that we could get enough mana to the clerics with hardly a problem while keeping the pet healed and runed/berserked. So we tried it, and it worked. Takes a long time of course, but it works just fine and the reward is definitely worth it.
He is tough with that aoe, but one group and a pet is all that's needed to kill him really if you have the right strategy. Although getting him to spawn requires a bit more than that usually.

When you give him the tear he aggroes. You get the scale by looting his dead body, he doesn't give it to you. Based on what I've read, you WILL die during this fight, so you need a Cleric to survive the battle to ressurect you so you can loot the scale.

# Jan 24 2001 at 11:58 PM Rating: Default
Main thing at bare minimum is 2 fire mage pets 49 or 55 i think it was, the non casting pure melee ones

2 enchanters to rune the pets
the mages keep mod rods handy

2 clerics to heal the pets as well

basically you rune pets ahead of time
each chanter picks pet to rune, each cleric does same, rune drops cleric heals as ench runes it again

its long fight but thats all we do
last time we did it with me casting rune 3 pets but one mage went ld shortly at start and came back at end. i just kept the highest level pet runed and occasionally other.

done this couple times

We did this recently to finish the shaman epic. Crazy thing is we only used a 49 and a 44 fire pet. Yes, they were buffed before fight. Two pets, two clerics. End of story. Keep them healed and you will have no problems.

Do not cast CH right away unless you want Rak to come give you a 'warm' hug.
