Had one gate on me 1/17/04, when it was down to about 10% hp - but no summon. I had it debuffed with pet in its face, dotted & rooted - then it was gone.

At L56 I have been soloing this and similar MOBs for a couple of weeks. I have not been summoned yet. I find the corridor along the wall to right of OT enterance (between there and dragon temple) to be excellent for kiting. Once the MOB is in the area near wall, nothing adds. I don't have enough mana to kill this guy outright so I have to root/snare it while I harvest & med. So far nothing adds while I do this. These mobs seem to drop better spells than others and drop decent Gems as well. Serious down time for me however. It may not be smartest MOB for me to solo at this level but so far it is safe.

Summoning?

I have killed several of these using root / rot and they do not summon. The named version Black Scar doesn't even summon.

Added Spelldrop:

Talisman of the Brute dropped off one today

Had one of these drop a "Spell: Heroic Bond"... like many of the posts here I'm sure this is just one of the many things on the list that's missing from many of these mob's descriptions.
You can solo these

Summoning
# Apr 05 2002 at 12:05 PM Rating: Default
Most mobs 51+ WILL summon. But the ones in skyfire seem to summon only if the mob is not feared and you are sitting (This is with a pet smacking him around) or the mob is not feared and you are out of spell casting range. I got summoned 2 times last night by a drake and found out it was due to the fact that I was too far away from it and had aggro over my pet.

So people who say that they don't summon are wrong. You have just been lucky enough to be in close enough range where they won't summon ya :)

PS: Corrupted Seafury is level 52 and summons like crazy. This happened 2 weeks ago. It is april 2002 right now as I post.
Conned even to 52

This unsnarable unfearable sucker cons even or blue to 52. A full group of 50-55 can take him, less than that, its time to zone. He does not summon even at 52.

You are confusing the Skyfire Drake with the Nightfire Drake.

The Skyfire Drake can be snared and it can be feared. The Nightfire Drake cannot.
Fawin is right

My mobs of choice are Skyfire Drakes, Elder Wyverns and Old Wurms. My tactics are...pull with Frost, snare when close to my favorite spot (ledge very close to dragon statue to the right of OT ent), root, then dot with winged death and Rowyl's bracer. I have never been summoned...not once...

I have also taken out the Lava Walker and Black Scar with the same method...never been summoned...

I tend to leave Felila (sp) alone as there is always an enchanter in the zone looking for her.

Put this summoning stuff to rest, it does not happen.

Course Guardian Wurms and Ancient Wyverns are a different story.

hehe, just so happens that my lvl 51 druid was in SF last night to help with a ragefire kill (boy...talk about a mad dash to KS this thing. guilds still argue about who has force or whats engaged it seems...KS is possible.) while tracking for the group(s) that was running around killing Zordak(friend or rival), i saw 3 even con skyfire drakes. common knowledge is that if the mob is 51+, then it summons. however, Luclin has had mobs that haven't followed this rule, so maybe possible that SF is along the same line(though i highly doubt it). so basically, you are either VERY lucky or they just don't summon. guess someone should check this out sometime. ;)

i dont get all this talk about mob's in SF summoning? iv been killin everything in sight for 4 full bub's of exp in lv59 & still going in lv60(just ta give you an idea of the amount of killin) & have yet to be summoned. iv killed every named mob(no,not tal & guardian's)over & over & everything else & have not been summoned. im not sure were your getting your info people? you sure it aint lv55+ mob's can summon, not lv51+? you sure you dident hit a guardian by mistake? i know guller can summon & he aint 55+,iv seen a lv55 drake in RM summon & dragon's.all im sayin is that just because a named ape in BW can summon dont mean they all can. all i know is that in all the time iv been killin in SF iv never seen or heard someone get sommoned. ? fawin oxenheart,lv60 dru :-)
Creatures that Summon
# Jun 24 2001 at 1:35 PM Rating: Default
Hi, I have fought a few creatures that summon before, so I would not consider myself an expert on the subject or anything. I have never fought a summoned creature with my pet up for a few reasons, which were not really my decision, they just kinda turned out that way. I found that with these creatures, I would not get summoned if I used slow moving dots, or DD's if well spaced out. I would get summoned if used any time of debuff, be it DOT or otherwise, or cast my dots before the tanks and others in group had built up adequate hate. I also FD'd on a rock golem in the hole after my entire group died, and my DOT was still working so it was 'YOU WILL NOT EVADE ME GENS' Time, it worked, and the thing didn't summon me while I stayed fd. I waited for dots to wear off, paryed, stood up, and gated out.

A wizard that gets summoned doesn't know how to play. I've been in more battles against summoning MOBs than I can count (going all the way back to endless Fear/Hate/Vox/Naggy/FG/KK runs pre-Kunark) and I am nearly never summoned. Summoned *********** wizzie, sorry, that's just how it is.

Now debuff classes are another matter all together; debuff classes will get summoned. That said, the comment about "20 tanks taunting" is total ********* After Kunark, the dmg output and hit rate of tanks is so damn high that even without taunt, the MOB will be back on them soon enough. The only class that I see as being likely to get flattened is enchies because they are dealing with adds and clerics because they frequently become the target of the smarter MOBs.

looks like...

They come with a AE fire spell of some kind, it does very little damage though. The level 50+ versions summon you and will hit you in the +/- 160 range. Needless to say if a caster gets on really ticked off it will summon them allot and eventually kill them. One killed me the 3rd time I got summoned by it. Then it got our mage then the necro. Best thing to do when killing these is to keep fear on them as much as possible. They also have a respectable amount of HP's. Good exp though :)

Rooted monsters will not summon you, if they have a tank or pet in thier face. all the aggro goes to pet.

You have obviously never fought anything that summons.....try stripping their skin off with IB taking AC away with shadow vortx.....20 tanks taunting will not keep them from summoning you.
/em has been slapped around delerious by clerics of inny for IB and vortexing them :P

Yea.. Definately.. I was just about to say.. I'm a 51 wizard and I just recently went to Hate for the first time.. We had several tanks in the mobs face and I was constantly summoned.. However, the Concussion spell does make a noticable difference.. Especially if you get summonded and you can get one off.. It will turn away from you and go back to the tanks.

I think the point that was being made was that petted classes are not summoned. Since wizards aren't a petted class, Im not sure this applies to you in particular. I have not hunted in this zone and partially that is the reason I came here. In BW however, when being summoned by Gullerback, well, my pet was in his face if I remember correctly and was tanking alongside the ranger and shaman we had dealing the damage, yet I still got summoned.. Im not sure if different creatures act differently, but in this case, I was still summoned even tho my pet was supposedly absorbing the aggro. Just my 2cp.

If you'll look back, he states that a ROOTED mob will put agro on the pet or tank. Not sure about the fear mobs, but Gullerback can't be rooted
RE: Ouch!
# Feb 27 2001 at 9:18 AM Rating: Default
can't be rooted - I've done it meself - 52nd Enc & a 51st Dru. We took turns with root & it was snared already. Perhaps it just has a high MR. Being Enc I can strip 30 points off it & thus have more success, but there are few creatures that I CAN'T get a root to stick (Black Reavers for instance or other pure total high MR ones).

Reason I know this is that I was hunting in BW for spells (what a waste of time mind you - Old Sebilis much better) & the only thing we didn't atk was the Wurms (for faction reasons - Velious) & we saw GB & got him good albeit some meding to do it. It can be done grasshopper :-)
