Geez, why does everyone try to attack Slate? I know I'd never try it since I'm only a lvl 6 but last night at the EC tunnel someone announced Sgt. Slate was wondering over to the tunnel and a bunch of high lvls went over to kick his a$$! Isn't that kind of inconsiderate since you have to talk to him to complete a quest (I think)? Is he that much of a bad guy?

No worries. Slate spawns quickly, as do most guards.

Paladins must kill Sir Lucin, a guard in North Freeport to complete the soulfire sword quest.

North Freeport has a bank so it is advantageous not to be KoS to guards there. So it is benefitial to get you faction in line there.

The easiest way to get your factions back up with the guards in NFP is to kill FP militia, i.e. slate and company. Additionally many races start out KoS to Freeport militia. Lastly I am sure many in the tunnels are bored and killing slate is fun, especially because he could mop the floor with you for the first 48 levels of your existence.

Freeport Faction,, turn in Deathslash Fist Belts... period. "." Get a wolf form from a nice druid and turn in 4 belts to Freeport Militia, now go to Freeport Warrior Guild and turn in 4 belts. Your faction will increase greater than it decreases. This will get you good faction with both houses. Now, NFP "knights of truth" guards are on different faction, but killing the orcs in West Commonlands or East Commonlands will raise that easily.

To sum this up,
1-Get DF Belts from orcs in WC and EC
You need this faction hits, so you do it.
2-Turn in Belts to FP militia and FP war guild
Alternate between 4 each house and use wolf form for faction
3-All Freeport loves you
4-Destroy Faction by killing Slate or pally epic mob
5-Rinse and Repeat

basically I was 43 shaman at the time and I attacked him on purpose to get my piercing skill up and I have maybe 20 I didn't think anything of it so I meleed then he started double hitting for 90 about80-90 at least. then I root and left root didn't last long but if I had fm I could have easily meleed him he started missing after he doubled the first time.

I figuired this thread needed more BS. Slate is a nasty undercon. I started killing him at 46 but only with harm touch up and it was close. I am also in BE, Iksar regen bp, and was using MoSS then. Sometimes if he breaks invoke fear early a few times he can still smack me up good. All the 34 droods and 38 necros who solo him.....are LIEING...... I know druids in there 40s that had to zone on him. You don't have the mana pool lil doggies you'd need 400 wis at that level. As to the Necro's your pet would last about 30 seconds and he does resist fear if he is red to you, in fact he reists snares a lot if he is red to you. I really don't understand why people BS on these boards unless they are clerics trying to drum up rez buissiness

Well, if you think it is so awesome that a lvl 37 took him, my lvl 35 druid took him down with ease, took a very long time snaring him and dotting him, and nukin him a few times, it was a piece of cake at lvl 35 with 193 wis, thats all

ok.. i am a lvl 50 pally on quellious server that is super souped up. i see a wisp and i think hey why not kill it for a GLS, i can use the money. i target it, shoot an arrow and slate gets in the way of it and starts chasing me. since freeport is my home i didnt want to lose faction with it so i decided to run. he killed my about 4 steps away from the zone. i get a rez, think to myself i can always collect gnoll scalps and grated slate to a bloody pulp. i had 2 bubs of life left. :):):):):) i HATE slate

I'm a 50 Ranger and I have absolutely no problem soloing him, I even could solo him with only casting stinging swarm, just takes a while, but with immolate he goes down in minutes...

He spawns near Fp zone and its like a 6 min timer. For his level is very tough. I have yet to see a monk or war under 50 solo him hehe.

Well running though EC last night and Slate jumps me and my boy. Being 55 and boy, 52 Pally, we handled him with easy. Camped him for about a hour before we felt sorry for the newbies running back to the inn for help but no guard. Then tried to solo him later and he was tough as heck. Had me down to one bub of health but lucky new DD spell popped him for 125 and made him turn. Loot sucks by the way for his level.

Correction for you.

Slate has about 3500hps. He takes to Breath of Ro's (930hp), 3 Drifting Deaths (650hp) and one Engulfing Root (160hp) to take down. He dies before the 3rd drifting death finishes, hence why he's about 3500hps.

I am a lvl 50 De SK and i have 1500hp how can u have 1473 max at lvl 44?? i almost cant solo this guy hes hard . dont think u could solo him .

Ur level 50 and only have 1500hp LOL u need some armor. Im a level 40 troll shadowknight and have 1500 hp. And i dont have good armor.

Come now why you think you got more? Common sense My warrior (Barb) has 1275 unbuffed at 35.
Its the race not class that determines hp's. Also one of the base stats help determine your hps.

Race has nothing to do with HP directly, the sta the race has determines the HP. An ogre tends to have the most HP because it has the highest base stamina. Class also has a part in determining HP. I dont remember the exact numbers but class, stamina and level (duh) all have multipliers in calculating HP. Also, keep in mine one can have HP items (i.e. the popular velium fire wedding ring 6ac 65HP). Please get ur facts straigt before you flame someone for not knowing what they are talking about, what he said was not rediculous... with better armor, the 50sk would likely have considerably more than 1500hp.

well if anyone still reads these then it is possible for a lvl 44 SK to solo him with 1474(or what it was)hp... just use the lifetap for the lvl... it helps a shizzit load.

At 44 I was able to solo Slate as a DE SK, unbuffed. Came out with no mana and about 30% of my hp (1473 max) though. Id love to see any other melee do that!

Where the heck does this guy spawn? I've heard he's on a 6 minute spawn timer, but I cannot find out for the life of me where he spawns. I always find him roaming on or around the path in front of the tunnel. He's still pretty decent exp even at level 54.

He's a random pop. I'm a druid, so I park over where Rinna is and sit and wait for him to pop on track. I usually find him between the West Freeport Zone and where Guard Reskin spawns. If you are a non-tracker, he can be a ***** to find.

Heh, it was easy, he only resisted me twice and my pet was only knocked down to 66 percent hp. He resisted NONE of my Invoke Fears, none of my VoS casts and only 2 out of 5 Torbas Acid Blasts, this guy gave me only 1 blue bub of exp and dropped 8gp and no items, not really worth hunting to be honest.

ARE YOU RETARDED?! If this guy gives you 1 blue bub of exp at 37, KEEP KILLING HIM! There are 25 blue bubs per level. If you get 1 blue bub each time you kill him and he spawns every 6 minutes, how long would it take you to ding 38? Do the math!

truly man.. your really funny (:-D ya think your snare is gonna stick on him? or any other spells. even if they did by the time ya run waaayyy ahead and med he would regenmt almost as fast as ya could be dot/nuking the man for... and if all spells stick and hit for 100% damage.. then ya still could not take him (:-() sorry (:-(

I tried fighting this guy when I was only a level above him and he resisted very frequently. Maybe you got a spell or 2 to stick but I doubt you will be that lucky in a full fight. In any case now that I am 51 (shaman)he is cake. Root and rot. Takes 1 plague and 2 ebolts. Then he is a runner and I beat him down in melee. Good fights without resists and i never take damage. Bad fights with alot of resists and I end up with about 20% health left. But I always win :)
And now I can bank in FP! Woot!!

this guy is pretty easy to kill when you have a lvl 41 necro helping you kill guards by the ruines all they do is root the guard and whenslate comes he fears him and kills him while you are killing the other guard
