During the my time in FM i have only meet this guy once, yesterday. Im a lvl 46 dru, and he conned blue to me, so i thought i would take him out pretty easy. My root does a dmg of 102 at this lvl. After rooting him, i couldnt tell he was hit. The i snared and dotted him. It started nuking me for dmg between 60 and 250 at a time. After the dot had run half its time, i still couldnt see any dmg on him, and I was down to 20% health. Didnt want to die, so I ran away. Dont know if magic res makes him invounreble to DoT, or he has a crazy amount of HP, but I for sure cant take him out alone.... Hes a badass.
dont know why so many people have had problems with these,I've soloed them with a 37th chanter and pet and they are EASY kills.Too many people think about themselves and not thier pets and dont cast protections or buffs on them till last minute.Try soloing for a while to learn the proper way to use a pet and make it live, buff them with whatever you buff yourself with(excluding brain buffs of course)and they will not only live longer but also fight better.I would make sure pet had resist magic on them, follow up with a strength spell, speed attack booster,ac booster, and end with a rune spell. For grins add a damage shield to help damage mob and there you go.As a chanter I would root these first with enstill, then tashan,a weaken spell, then an attack debuff, followed closely with curse of the simple mind.Cast your DoT,then re-root and use your least damaging dd spells to simply break up spell casting on his part.Sure the 5 point dd spells might not do much if any damage to him but guess what - the low level dd spells wont break root and while he is trying to cast on you your pet is wailing away on the back of his head with a very large weapon. If he breaks root and rushes you, cast color shift to stun,re-root and walk away only to hit him again from a distance with another DoT or your heavy DD spell.I've done this with almost any type of mob in fm and it works well.
Myself-a lvl30 Pal, 30mnk, 32 war, 30clr, 30pal, and a 31dru killed it, actually 2 different ones at different times since it aggroed us outside the fort. It DID con red to all of us and I DID resist its several attemts to fear and DOT me? What are you guys wearing? Maybe its just that the guys I was grouped with are experienced. Im not very good with strong mobs but, common we really did kill 2 of em.
My group counter it last night. It con blue to my lv 37 druid, and I got 3 more members around 34. We used all mana and it still live. I put 2 Dot spell(around 300 dmgs) on it (it worn off twice!), and some combust spell. It nearly fear my teammate to the fort. It cast some kind of NEC/SHD snare and fear spell and I can't deal melee dmg on it(it got some magic skin to absorb the dmg).My team can handle 4 giants and it is much tougher than 4 giants.

Just one of these babies was enough to do in a full balanced group lvs 26 31. I was the main healer and got feared right off the bat...I had good mana, but I'm not sure about everyone else.
Okay, the level range has got to be wrong. Conned red to 31 ranger friend. Neither I (30 cleric) nor ranger (31) could resist his fear. I have 50 magic resistance.
