Based on my personal experience your 56 warrior, solo, would be cat food in short order. They are very social. Get a good healer and another tank to go with you (the second tank to pull aggro off the healer).
My old guild did fairly well with 3 groups of 45-55. Since June these babies have been buffed to level 46 with 5K HP and hit for 80-120 HP per strike. We never could single pull them since they have very high resists to everything. We could not get mezz/charm to stick. So, you have to take them 4 or 5 at a time. They love to aggro healers.
As of 9/20/2002, these (and all other slaves in Nurga) seem to be broken. As others have commented, they are quite tough now, conning even at level 45, and highly resistent to all forms of magic. They resisted or partially resisted my lifetaps (which are extremely rarely resisted even against yellow/red cons) at level 54 nearly every time, even when I was in melee range. I couldn't get my Darkness snare to stick.
They no longer appear to drop the Frontier Ore needed for Rozzut's Whistler. I went there with a group yesterday and we killed at least a dozen of them with no sign of any ore, or any loot other than "A Pick". Until these things are fixed or rebalanced or whatever, this quest doesn't seem worth attempting.
If you plan on fighting them in the Burynai Caves room where several slaves spawn, I recommend bringing someone who is at least level 55 to get single pulls... you may need someone as high as 60 to get them in singles. As a level 54 shadow knight I couldn't usually split them as they still had very large aggro ranges and my snare would never land. I wouldn't count on being able to mezz or charm them.
i was in here 2 weeks ago and the slaves were even to me at 45. i killed 2 and got no ore... i hope it does still drop, cause im gonna try to go back for some. these things had alot of HP..me a 52 warrior and 56 druid still took a lil while to drop this guy.and the warrior needed a complete heal cause he dropped to a bub of health. i would suggest a nuker for finishing blow cause they do run, don't wanna agro anything else, even though there's not too much around.if anyone gets ore pls post so i know it does still drop=) thanks
Their baaaaaack! And VI put these babies on steroids, too! Stupid little penguins con'd yellow at level 43! They hit for 80-120 hp. I popped one with a 200+ hp backstab and it barely moved the health bar. My 43 rogue and a 54 druid got our butts handed to us on a plate! Very social, unsnareable, unharmonizable, unrootable and they pass the hate list to any other slave in the area of a football field. We didn't get to find out if they drop the ore. We were too busy with CR's.
Some friends and I went into Nurga last night to see if the slaves were back. They were there at a much higher level and all indifferent. They all conned yellow to 44 and blue to 47. Indifferent until attacked then any within range attack and they hit hard. Almost every hit to me was over 80 but none over 120 and multiple hits in a row. They also have a ton of hitpoints. None of the slaves(tried all 3 Iksar, Sarnak and Burynai) dropped any Frontier Ore only picks - was hoping a pick would mean ore but no such luck. Anyone confirm that they drop the ore again? Only need one ore to finish the Whistler quest unless that too has been raised in level again. =) Had all the stuff at 35 when it was raised to 40 then made 40 and the ore was removed.
to answer the rarity question of the frontier ore - personally i'd say it's uncommon if not rare - i've camped this place for about 4 hrs at a time 3 nights straight and have yet to see it drop - i thought maybe the niccolite, chant rocks, or eye of rogkus may be it unidentified but it's not - the last night i was there a rogue friend of mine got the ore to drop after about 6hrs - so...YES it still drops but unless i'm very unlucky...not very frequently
The gem of nimbleness is found on random dravishes (spelling?) roaming Dreadlands. The drop is very very rare. I have gone from 40 to 48 there and have only seen one gem ( I grabbed it up quick!! ) Now Im headed to the mines to get the ore. Anyone know how frequent the drop is?
the frontier ore is for the whistler quest given by allaria sneakyfeet in FV. going by her name and what she says its a rogue quest. and I haven't found a complete walk through of the quest or anyone thats says they've seen it completed. the quest calls for frontiers finest ore (the frontier ore and a gem of nimbleness (no idea where to find this) and 500plat. when given to dapper blackhammer in the butcherblock mountains he will reward you with the whistler (guessing a very cool dagger)I'm a 21 dwarf rogue and I'm on vallon zek server. if anyone has this ore or the gem of nimbleness I'd love to get it. give me a tell and we can work somthing out. my name is dardolof of the order of the black rose.
Both dropped items needed for this quest are NO Drop. From what the quest threads mention, the ore seems to be a common drop. The gem, however, is not. I have spent many levels in DL and seen the gem drop a number of times. I don't remember which type of drolvarg dropped it when I saw it drop, though. If you want one and can't handle the drolvargs yet (you would need a group since this is for rogues), I recommend hanging out at the east side of KC and sending an occasional /ooc asking for this. Most groups without a rogue will let you loot it since it's lore, no drop, and only for a rogue quest.

I got the robe and another item called "Niccolite" off it the other day. Niccolite looks like some green stone. The Niccolite is NODROP and stackable -- which makes me think its part of a quest.
