Spawning Dunedigger (consolidated note from thread)

Consolidating the Info for quick reference:

1) Added this rectangle to the North Desert of Ro map: (cut/paste in the map file obv.)
L 2471.6265, -5968.8740, 21.3325, 1013.2996, -5985.0645, 29.9773, 240, 0, 0
L 1013.2996, -5985.0645, 29.9773, 1013.2996, -6915.5938, 26.7216, 240, 0, 0
L 1013.2996, -6915.5938, 26.7216, 2437.3682, -6931.4453, 34.0639, 240, 0, 0
L 2437.3682, -6931.4453, 34.0639, 2459.3113, -5966.0234, 21.9323, 240, 0, 0

2) Cleared the (see below) mobs aggressively in the rectangle area. When killed, the (see below) mobs are replaced with different mobs types (e.g., young gila monsters, jackal's, etc.) which you leave alone and continue to hunt only the mobs on the list below. (note: unknown if this list is complete but it worked...)
a sand scarab
a dune tarantula
a shriveled mummy
a madman
a crypt mummy
an orc raider
a large rattlesnake
a parched zombie
a brown asp
a puma

3) Stood at 6504, -1510, 79 and picked off the (see above) mobs from the top of the hill until Dunedigger popped about 3 hours later. (note: Brewall map had approx location noted)

Thanks to those who posted prior for the source reference information.

yup..had him pop in the NE corner of that lazy rectangle.

orc raider is rare b/c spiders fight him, otherwise he and the madman are not uncommon.

Clarification: from bobbybick - DUNEDIGGER SPOILERS BELOW message

Kill what is on the list only. It does not matter how many you pull or in what order.
I used my wizard with using Staff of Elemental flux. And used an area spell to kill
them all. I believe that there was another post stating that Dunedigger is a 2% spawn rate
from Place Holder listed from BobbyBick instruction.

The box range to add to the northern ro map listed above helps but not so much as the list of mobs that are listed above.

Just keep grabbing and killing eventually DuneDigger will spawn

DunedDigger spawned at location p6421, n1650, p52

Can confirm this; this method does work without a tracker. It's pretty funny, you end up with a desert full of giant snakes & gila monsters!

The roaming area provided by the user 'mlorente' here is quite accurate and made for a good addition to my Dunedigger hunt (and highly recommended if you don't have a tracker).

Even if you're the only person in the zone, you're still going to get some interference. Some mobs here are KOS to each other. I witnessed Deathfist orcs being killed by undead. They also aggro spiders. The madmen aggro the Dervish camp. There may be a few other combos that attack each other. A few PHers died very quickly after spawning because of this.

There are indeed two separate 66-second mobs in this area, and it's likely that only one of them is for Dunedigger (the other will eventually spawn Rahotep, who incidentally would be much easier to spawn from one of the static mobs at the rapid-respawning undead camp on the western edge of this roaming area).

I found the two 66-second mobs in the same AE kill, so what I did was I added one to my extended target window and then focused on the other spawn. Naturally, after about 50 PHs, it wound up spawning Rahotep. Wonderful. Another 50+ PHs of the other spawn, and Dunedigger finally popped.

Followed advice of Bobbybick et viola Dunedigger spawned. Completed this as a necromancer with no track. Put the box on my map to helped.

I decided to come try to pop Dunedigger. I brought my wizard, aggroed every mob I could in the area. then went around again 3 more times to pick up pathers. then AE'd then down. swapped over to a ranger. and found the 1 mob that spawned after 66 seconds-ish. Killed that mob only for an hour. and rahotep popped. so I killed it. then 5 mins later rahotep repopped. dangit. so I killed all the mobs around the undead area and my rahotep. and I spawned rahotep as one of the undeads. I figured I was al set. but 5 mns later Rahotep popped again on my cycle. so I had 2 up at same time. 1 static and pather. somedays you cant win.

so my question was going to be : is Rahotep pather on the Dunedigger cycle?

after 2 hours, I gave up. I left that rahotep up and pulled the entire area again and found another 1 min spawn mob. took 4-1/2 hourafter that to spawn dunedigger, but I did get him. So there are at least 2 separate cycles. 1 for rahotep and 1 for dunedigger.

Bobby's below post is accurate, very easy if you are the only one in the zone. I was able to nab Dunedigger in less than 2 hours. I mass slaughtered everything until only a few of the possible PH's were left. Then I went on to find the 66 second respawn one and found him shortly thereafter... Maybe only 10 spawns.

got him in 10 min today, not long after killing Rahotep (they are not connected) but killed some other trash while killing around one of the undead areas and low and behold he spawned and pathed west of that undead area (he can spawn many places) but he's still around for those looking.

Has anyone seen this elusive creature recently? As far as I know the latest hard info we have on him is from before the Ro / Oasis revamps with a possible sighting around the (now) Undead Ruins in 2010.

I know he definitely still spawns as I purchased his Scute Shield from a player back in January on the TLP servers, but my own attempts to locate him through waiting and mass slaughtering the zone proved fruitless. If anyone has seen or killed him recently and happens to remember the area they spotted him in I would love to have a better lead to go on!

DUNEDIGGER SPOILERS BELOW:

Dunedigger works exactly like Quillmane in Karana.
His spawn cycle is on a 66 second timer (on Phinigel other servers may be a little slower) the rest of the zone trash is on a roughly 25 second timer.

PHs and Dunedigger himself spawned in the area marked in a red square on the map.

The following mobs are on his cycle (listed in order of how many I saw between spawns):
a sand scarab
a dune tarantula
a shriveled mummy
a madman
a crypt mummy
an orc raider
a large rattlesnake
a parched zombie
a brown asp
a puma

It took me 42 spawncycles to go from 1 Dunedigger to the second spawn (41 PHs inbetween) by following this method.

Good luck fellow hunters.

I DID IT! After 21 years of never seeing this mob, I had given up on ever seeing Dunedigger, and especially, his Scute Shield. While he didn't have the Scute Shield, I still got him. The nightmare is finally over. Thanks for your detailed guide.

If anyone on Xegony is willing to donate or sell a Scute Shield, please contact Edrick.

edit: I can absolutely confirm you can add "a sand giant" and "a Deathfist warrior" to the list of placeholders/mobs you need to kill to this list.

Would like to corroborate Bobby's SCIENCE. Got him in 49 PH, so probably around 2% spawn rate. Would add that "a sand giant" and "a Deathfist warrior" are 2 more rare PH.

I finally saw him, my EQ life is complete. He spawned and was killed at 6418, -2027 on the Agnarr server. I made it just in time to watch him die, good enough for me.

Edit: Sorry for the bad picture, he was at 20% when I ran up and I was just spamming printscreen hoping to catch him before he died.

Got him again, on the Phinigel TLP Server (PoP era). Spawned around 6222, -1244

Dunedigger Still Lives
# May 12 2007 at 6:19 PM Rating: Decent
This critter still pops, I was lucky enough to have him spawn next to me on the long hill parallel to the sea right near the fishing huts and the bandit camp. He dropped the shield, which was a rather nice twink item for my paladin on The Combine server (just when it first opened).

He is a very rare spawn though, much rarer than the dreaded Rahotep.

Popped last night when they reset zone because of LDoN vendor issues on E'ci. Only dropped an 'Armadillo Hide' though.

I caught him right after a zone reset too, there might be something to that. He was hanging out in the middle of the undead circle of stones
(LOC:+6300,-850; in between the tunnel to the Commonlands and most western Derv Camp).

I saw this thing in august . It dropped dunedigger hide or something like that... it was a pelt of some sort and was not no drop. I got 10 pp for it from a merchant.
Just ran into this guy on Luclin.

I saw this guy today on my way through North Ro. He was around location 13 on the map on eqatlas.com. He conned white to a level twelve and hit for a max of 26. After killing him I did a /time maybe this will help.

[Thu Aug 15 06:24:52 2002] It is 11 PM on Saturday, the 7th day of September, of the year 3177.

Maybe he spawns like someother named creatures like Terrorantula. Maybe if someone killed a WHOLE lot of normal armadillos he would spawn. Worth a try
