For an idea of their HPs, I randomly killed 10 of these from all over the zone. One on one, strictly melee damage, went as follows:

1 - 928
2 - 941
3 - 930
4 - 907
5 - 923
6 - 980
7 - 957
8 - 975
9 - 966
10 - 971

So they have on average 950 HPs, give or take depending upon level and buffs.
Vekis Spawn
# Jul 23 2002 at 6:34 AM Rating: Decent
The only problem with following the stream from FV to Ill Omen is that at the big statue by the waterfall, Vekis spawns Vekis is a high level necro and will drop you on the spot if you aggro hitting for 180+ and casting for 300+. Best to keep to the zone wall.

These guys shouldn't make you worry at all. I started to hunt in LOIO in my early 20s and have never aggroed these spiders because I would run along the left mountain side from FV to the stream into LOIO. They are usually not that high up along the zone line. Good luck and safe travels!
Easy-or am i just lucky as heck?
# Jun 28 2002 at 7:03 PM Rating: Default
I run past these guys all the time, camoed and SoWed, and ive never been attacked. Just make sure you dont stop running or slow down, i think that makes them notice you easier.
glitch or hiding?
# Jun 20 2002 at 9:29 AM Rating: Default
i am pretty sure that these things can hide, and hide well. this glitch report comes from a lot of people and being that i am a dark elf, myself, i use my natural hide ability to do similar things. these guys seem very dark elvish in nature, except they don't seem to like anybody.

maybe they are cursed dark elves.

i know i would curse them for the deaths they have caused me.

What is the safest way to travel to and from the loio? We have to go to FV for supplies and bank runs, also comming from there on the ole' corpse run. Has anyone found a safe way to get by these creatures? I just pinged to lvl 21.As a war, I usally do not have any camo spells. On occasion I can get SOW. I am also new to the Zone only recently arriving from the Oasis of Marr.
please post any information that you have.

hey buddy,

i been a warrior for awhile, i hunted in loio from 19-28 and i never had any problems... worst case i ever had was one aggro`d me and i just kept running... came out only about 100 hps short of a full bar they dont generally aggro that much just run and dont stop it works fine for me sow is best but if not hey its still good.. i suggest camping at the safe spot in loio right by the zone and only go into fv when you need supplies and whatever cause you really can just stay in loio like forever bring a backpack of food n water it`ll last awhile so just do that bud
REVENGE!

AHHHHHHH i HATE these things! revenge is going to be sooooooo sweet, when i am level 60 i am gonna come and wipe out ALL of these things out, i have lost like 3 levels because of these guys, when going to loio, always get SoW when going to loio if you don't want to get attacked by these things.

Been hunting in LOIO for many moons and since I hit lvl 24 these things seem to gravitate towards me along with all their brothers and sisters. In one day I got hit 3 times. Rooted, poisoned, and beat badly. Barely made it out with Gate then had to stand in front of the bank like an idiot until the roots wore off. Tried it again (SoW'd all the while btw) and WHAM they hit me again. Made it thru the zone with half life and heart beating. Now every time I go thru I know one is there so SoC goes on and don't stop for nuttin!

When i first arrived in FV in my early 20's, i ran past lots of these invisible and never aggro'd any one of them. Then one day, the male version of this mob saw right thru my invis and killed me on the spot. Since then, i take special care in maintaining a safe distance from these things while transiting to LOIO from FV and back again...

I know my invis was up to because everytime i ever came close to one, i'd always glance down at my buff window to ensure my invis was still up. when this guy popped in front of me, i glanced down, saw my invis still up, and i continued to run righ past him, LOADING, PLEASE Wait....
Tips on Killing
# Dec 31 2001 at 4:29 PM Rating: Default
I am a 30 wizard and i find it quite easy to nuke, run(with sow potion) and bring it onto a pilgrim, nuke a little more and get the xp(ksing the pilgrim). They drop coin(up to a few plat) and spider silks.Try it out!

Also these guys barely move with snare(bonds of force) so kiting is also easy if your prefer that or can't ks like wizards. happy hunting
They are mean

I dont like them. They are mean to me. They attack me and i die. :( Please kill them. That will make me happy. :)
Hide works
# Aug 14 2001 at 2:14 AM Rating: Default
I spent many hours fighting in Ill Omen, and many hours dying in Ill omen. Well, at the time I was only a 17th rogue, now I'm 24th, and not once have I ever been seen by a Drachnid. I would sneak through, and I mean through, swarms of 5 or 6 of them at a time and they would never bother me. If I wasn't hiding though they would make wood elf cakes out of me. So I truely don't believe that some of them can see Invisible, because never have they done so. If you are still worried about them, then run along the beach until the statue and head straight for the zone edge. Once at the edge head up to the zone, and you will have no problems at all. The drachnids never come that close to the zone edges. Another tactic I used if I didn't want to take the time to sneak throught them all.

Rogue hide/sneak is not broken by any of these drachnids.
Camo and invisibility, however, is detectable by one of the three classes.
I'm told (though I do not play a rogue) that there are only a handfull of mobs in the whole game that can break your hide/sneak.
My rogue and I tested invisibility on these guys one afternoon taking screenshots. I was attacked with some frequent occasion (I gave up until higher levels when I now solo them from time to time) while she was 100% indifferent to all of them.

I don't play the nasty little rogues either, but they can actually sneak up on MOBs as big as dragons and steal loot....the God's may be a different story.

Gettin off subject here though...

Drachnids

If you spend enough time hunting these things, that most people tend to avoid out of need at first encounter, and habit at higher levels; you learn that two types see invis one does not - and there are two classes: Web, and silk; per subspecies: stranders, spinners, and lurkers. One class sees invis, one does not - it's easy, and irrelevant. Con everything, by the time you can read their tags in the second laggiest (WW being #1) zone, you are probably in aggro range anyway.
They are great loot mobs, dropping between 2-4PP most of the time, and range in level from 24-32, most are shaman/druid caster types, but there are melees as well - kite or root/nuke is easy solo, but you have to find a clear spot to do it, or end up lunch quick.

IMO they are great mobs, interesting, unpredictable, they pop spawn, de-spawn, are dangerous to a huge level range, and keep too low lighties out of Kunark actual, and too low lizzies out of FV; besides, you're hardly worth your salt if you can't handle the spider alley gauntlet, anyway.

LOL. Well said, and I couldn't agree more. We've been hunting them since I was lvl 25 (lvl 28 now,Paladin) and on several ocassions my group has included levels 21 and 22. No guts, no Glory!

No guts, No glory my ***, if you want to lvl in this game i suggest you put your glory aside and stick with things you CAN kill. There is nothing about these spideys I can find to say good except when I see someone camping and killing them, thats good. Stay away from these things unless you can debuff, root and nuke the everliving **** out of them.

At 30 I could easily smack most of these around. Like their sisters they look cool as hell. Any D&D nut would recognize the classic Drider. I never could very good coin off the ones that I fell. Watch yer back because they can see in invis. SoW is yer best bet here.
Random see invis/hide WTF?!?!
# Apr 01 2001 at 3:19 AM Rating: Default
if ya have invis, or yer a rogue with hide, it still ain't all that safe, i've died many a times cause of the friggin random spawn see invis/hide.

personally, whom ever thought it would be a good idea to put high lvl mobs between a city, and a zone where tons of people hunt, should be drug out into the street, rooted, and trained on.

then you're a level 23 story teller too. I'm a 28 paladin, and LOTS con red to me. Several blue, some black, quite a few yellow, but LOTS red. I have been hunting these things since I was lvl 25, and there was a rare blue along the way, most were red. I have hunted them in groups that included lvls 21 thru 29, and all were red to lvls up to and including lvl 24. Nothing, absolutley NOTHING is red at level 24, but suddenly blue at level 23. Maybe you oughta Get out there and face them instead of posting something just so make yourself seem cool. people often times depend on these posts to make an informed decison about their nights (or weeks) hunting. You go talking your full of **** stuff just to impress people, you cost folks a level. You wanna seem cool, go BE cool. then come speak facts, not fiction.

Okay, you just TOTALLY confused me . .

And about the "you just cost folks a level", you must assume everybody is pretty stupid. You think they wouldn't CON these first? Nice tale about taking these as a group, but plenty of people really don't care. Stop singling out people then bashing them. These forums are teeming with posts like this one, if your claim is true. Go away, you types of people give me gas.

why dont't you people stop complaining and just loot at the top of this critter. it says up there that he is level 27-31.. those are pretty accurate!

These are Druids
# Oct 12 2000 at 12:48 PM Rating: Default
Watch out when hunting these. They are druids and will root you, Damage shield themselves, Heal themselves on occation, along with DOT you and DD you. They are easy to kill at around Level 28 solo but, they will gang up on you and there bigger brother are alot tougher. If you get a group of these on you RUN and hope you dont get rooted on the way. BTW it is fairly safe to pull these to the beech right next to the statue above the water fall. Good luck to you all

Actually they are rangers
Rogues..good loot for poison makers
# Oct 12 2000 at 12:44 PM Rating: Good
They drop uteritcing hairs (or what ever they are called) along with spider venom sacs. The vendor in FV sells the other components so this would be a good place for a rogue to acually get exp killing something the is useful for making poisons.

See subject, but suffice to say my group of four (me, 22 bard, 20 warrior, 22 wizard, 22 enchanter) took one of these apart very easily. It was quite a rush, since they have been the bane of my corpse runs from level 19 on.
Be Warned
# Jun 01 2000 at 8:01 AM Rating: Decent
On my first trip to FV i met up with these things. First off they are ALWAYS attacked by Drixies, a kind of butterfly with an attitude. They hit pretty hard and cast poison. The thing to be VERY careful of is they act alot like Kerra spiders. If you attack one, more than likely, you will be attacked by many. They have a tendancy to hit hard and often and the loot is fair at best. The XPs aren't too bad (Im a 36 Ranger) and I soon found that they are not really worth my time when I'm grouped. Soloing could pose problems but may reap better rewards.
