Rogue's DE illusion
# Jan 06 2003 at 6:32 AM Rating: Decent
when you use your dark elf illusion mask you become NOT KOS to the DE guards in there. when you reach captain rottgrime, i would think he is not KOS to you neither with that illusion form. BUT when you hand in the braids, will your illusion drop and kill you ? if im not mistaken I am threatening to DE in OT so yeah. i would appreciate a reply asap. TY.

I am a rogue with the DE mask, just cast illusion and you can stroll through the city, bank, and turn in the braids, it works fine
RE: Rogue's DE illusion
# Jan 06 2003 at 4:16 PM Rating: Decent
Illusions don't drop for any reason other than the timelimit of the illusion wearing off or zoning. I don't know about masks with illusion effects however. To my knowledge it should work the same as the spell.

Can someone please give me a location or discription as to where this guy is located in the outpost. It's scarty running around in there as I've had my invis drop while passing by guards more times then I care to mention and none of my illusions even with benevolence change my faction with the guards. Any help would be appreciated.

Ack nevermind, if he is indeed surounded by guards then I will be killed anyway. I guess I'm giving up on this quest :(

What will killing him do to my faction with the outpost? I'm currently indifferant and want to make sure that after killing him I can still go bank here. How far will it drop me?

I went from apprehensive to dubious to threateningly in 2 kills. Killing Rottgrime destroys your Venril Sathir faction, so if you're a Dark Elf you might as well make Chardok your new home.

The bard ran all around with his marines while we sat there beating the **** out of this so called Captain. We beat him in under 2 minutes easy

Killing him Easy
# Jun 04 2002 at 2:53 PM Rating: Good
Ok, this is the easiest way to kill him. All you need are 2 mages level 51+ with earth pets.

First, one mage goes to the outpost with invis on, and targets captain rottgrime (Rottgrime is on the right after you enter the outpost. There will be marines around him that can see through invis, so dont get too close). Location is around pos2471 pos2138.

Then, go back out and face the front of the outpost. Make a 90 degree left turn on the right side of the outpost. You should now be behind the wall where captain rottgrime and his marines are. Pull Rottgrime with cancel magic, this will not aggro the marines. The mage should have sow on, and run back to the FM zone, where the other mage is waiting. If you pick up adds (like dragoons), then just zone into FM and try again. If not, the other mage will have a pet ready to get rottgrime off of the other mage.

Then the 2 mages just chain cast level 51 (or higher) earth pets, giving pets shild of lava. Do not waste mana on burnout, as each pet only lasts maybe 40 seconds.

You should be fine, i was a 51 mage doing it with levle 53 mage. We killed rottgrime 2 times in 15 minutes and had some mana left over each fight.

BTW only try to pull rottgrime at night when the dragoon in front of the outpost leaves. Basically, just chain cast Rottgrime to death after you single pull him with cancel magic, and you can do it with 2 level 51+ mages. Zone into FM if you get too many adds.

Also, I heard captain rottgrime gates and summons: this did not happen to us, although he did cast some kind of ice spell on our pets.
Make sure puller has sow.

I read the post from the people who want to become non-KOS to VS and the people who want to kill him.If you wait till a group pulling him for the epic part maybe you could give the Warbraids to him while he's...um...ocupied.

I read these reports about people who became KOS to VS and want to fix it and about the people who want to kill him for epic parts. Why not just wait ill a group has pulled him and then hand over the braids while he's um busy. Then your fac goes up with VS and the group kills Rottgrime

Why am I not KOS
# Apr 06 2002 at 12:38 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, after surviving several goon trains in OT I got to wondering why, so I conned one of them and I am apprehensive, not even close to KOS.

I am an agnostic erudite enchanter who hasn't killed anything they like. Didn't know I would be nearly indifferent to these guys.

Now the question is why am I so special? :-)

RE: Why am I not KOS
# Apr 22 2002 at 6:08 AM Rating: Default
Most agnostic races are non-KOS. I'm not positive, but if you are agnostic and not from a good-only race (i.e. dwarves, wood elves, etc.) you should be okay. I think dwarves and wood elves are KOS by default, regardless of religion.
Pulling and Killing Rottgrime...
# Mar 05 2002 at 10:00 PM Rating: Decent
I'm almost done with my epic and this is one of the pieces I had for some reason failed to complete. I called upon a 60 warrior and a 57 cleric. Warrior bummed a spirit of Eagle (SOW would work just as good) and ran through outpost pulling everything besides Rottgrime and his guards. He ran them out a little past SF entrance and I CoH'd him back to outpost. He then ran in and pulled Rottgrime and his guards and took them down the shoreline a ways. I again CoH'd him back and he ran back down the shoreline and snagged Rottgrime single. If you had to I would assume that you could CoH the warrior again and again until they brought Rottgrime single. Once you get him simply cast a dmg shield on the warrior (send pet if you want to) and let cleric complete heal until Rottgrime dies. Zero deaths and only takes three people.

killing rottgrime
# Sep 16 2001 at 11:38 PM Rating: Good
OK. several posts are here about how to kill him.. i'll tell ya a few tricks and stuff i learned while killin him for my epic..

1. you don't need 2 groups..
2. you don't have to have a monk
3. here is how we pulled him. we had 2 51 mages and a lvl 5 necro... it was simple, necro walked in targeted him, and walked outside the wall. waited till night then cast on him through/over the wall. then run to where your grp is and then you will die when rottgrime comes, but since you are lvl 5, no xp loss... the 2 52 mages just chain cast lvl 49 or 51 earthpets and dmg shield em... very easy.. only one person died.. me, lvl 5 necro..( i was pullin for my 52 mage and helpin 2 friends out too)... so long as you do it at night, rottgrim comes solo. we set up outside the outpost on the newbie side/water side... ya don't need sow or anything.. he should kill you right when you make it to your friends.. and if you don't make it, then they too far away.. oh.. and to my knowledge the hailing trick doesn't work anymore.. i think they tried it and he started walking back.. pop time is about 5 minutes.. you can do 2 pulls per nightime easy, and 3 if you are on the ball. just be careful, about 5 or 6 am a dragoon wanders by outside the gates on the water side.. he will aggro.. so don't fight rottgrime at 6am..
good luck all...... hope this helps..

Just took out Rottgrime with a group of 3 - 53 Cleric, 56 mage, 56 necro (all KOS in the outpost). Here's how we did it:

1. Cleric gets an invis and wanders into the outpost and targets Rottgrime, magician then assists him.

2. Necro and cleric go sit on the shoreline some distance from the outpost

3. Magician then stands outside the outpost, on the opposite side of the wall from Rottgrime and the marines.

4. Magician pulls Rottgrime through the wall with cancel magic - this does not aggro the marines.

5. Magician runs back to the others waiting on the shoreline, taking care to give the golem a wide berth

6. Pets beat the crap out of Rottgrime with cleric complete healing them (neither the mage or the necro were able to land a single spell on him, necro was mana dumping the cleric)

Note, it is important that you only pull him at night, when the goons are out of the outpost - or else, D'Veers <will> come with Rottgrime....

Pulling Captain Rottgrime in The Overthere
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ancient Truth has been able to pull Captain Rottgrime in The Overthere to his death.

This monster drops an item used in the Mage Epic quest.

He is located just outside the banking area in the outpost. He is surrounded by several undead marine, at least one Dragoon, and a Cliff Golem that guards the opening to the outpost.

First, position all your group(s) members within sight of the outpost along the waterfront. The cliff golem has a large aggro area, just use your judgement. Position one person with good faction half way between the group and the outpost, and designate them as the Hailer. You may want to send in that person ahead of time to go ahead and target the Capt. as many monsters will come when pulling, therefore making it hard to target the Capt.

Next, send in a monk to aggro the Capt. It is recommended that the monk not use any weapons to pull as the Capt. can summons. The monk will pull the monsters out to the hailer and then feign death at the Hailers feet. The hailer will begin to hail non-stop.

Finally, you MUST wait until all additional monsters return to their posts before the monk gets back up. If not, you will aggro the additional monsters again. Even when the monsters get back to the post, you may want to wait a few more seconds to be safe. The monk will then get up and pull the rest of the way to the group.

The Capt. is not extremely difficult and having a few tanks and clerics in a recommended two groups will most likely be fine.

Kill, and loot.

My suggestion would be to see if you could get someone with ally faction as well. It's not too difficult to get there from amiable all in all, and is pathetically easy for an enchanter. Kinda nice that nothing that is at ally faction with you will agro unless you attack it. ;)
RE: Walkthrough
# Aug 24 2001 at 12:11 AM Rating: Default
Great technique to get Rottgrime.
The only thing i can offer is that the cliff golem can be killed by a group of 58-60's. It hits fast for 169 and has bucket loads of HPs. Do this first before pulling Rottgrime and it will be a little easier to pull. The golems respawn time is fairly quick for its level but the group will have enough time to recover.

This is a re-hash of what I posted a few months ago.

A word of advice from a monk, when using FD on mobs over 35, "a few seconds" is rarely enough time for FD to wipe aggro 100%.
Best advice is to be sure that your monk puller has pulled Hate before and you'll be fine in singling out Rottgrime.

Hate to be the one to tell you this but once you hit KOS (threatening or scowls) the only way to get back to non-KOS is to help kill one of several lvl 60ish dragons on Ring of Scale faction. Gorenare and Talendor if I remember correctly but dont quote me on it...

The history behind this is that Venril was the former king / ruler of the Iksar and he was the one to unite all of the Iksar tribes. The Ring of Scale (kunark dragons) feared that this would allow the Iksar to become powerful enough to overthrow them on Kunark so they killed Venril.

After dying Venril made a pact with Innoruuk to restore his "life" and for doing so he would allow safe passage to Innoruuk's children (all dark elves, necromancers and shadowknights). Innoruuk accepted this and turned Venril into a lich...

How to Single pull Rottgrime
# Apr 02 2001 at 6:27 PM Rating: Good
Pulling Rottgrime is a simple monk chain-pull.
This pull is best done after 11pm game time, it is then that the Dragoons and General are out.
You need to have one person that is non-kos to the outpost.

1. From the east side of the outpost, park your group a good ways out.
2. Send your hailer (the non-kos person) into the outpost to target Rottgrime, than have hom wait at the FD spot.
3. When the Golem has moved to it's closests point near the ocean (north), have your monk sneak in to the south, huggin the wall, to where Rottgrime is.
5. The Golem paces between sides of the entrance. After he has moved to the left most position and starts to make his way back to the north most, have your monk grab Rottgrime and his marines and run to the FD spot and FD.
*****Note****
DO NOT use weapons to pull Rottgrime, he is levle 55 and will summon you. Run into his aggro-range to pull him.
6. Once the monk FD's, have your hailer start spam-hailing Rottgrime. Just like you do with Hasten. DO NOT let the monk /quit out to clear aggro. As long as the monk stays FD, hailing Rottgrime will keep him, if the monk LD's or /quits out, Rottgrime will move back to his spawn point and will not respond to hails until then.
7. Wait, wait, wait. Wait until you cannot see any of the mobs, an then wait a little longer. If you have a second non-kos person. Have them go back with the mobs to the outpost and let the group know when all the mobs are back to the spawn point.
*****Note*****
(for those of you that do not know, when a mob returns to his spawn point, all hate is always removed)
8. Once the mobs have returned to their spawn point, have your puller (not the monk) pull Rottgrime to the group. The monk should stand then FD, then repeat a few times to be sure that the golem is not still on his hate list.
9. Kill Rottgrime, loot.

*****Notes*****
Rottgrime was a very easy kill once we singled him out. (First attempt, we though we had him single, but were too close to the golem when we pulled and had all the marines, the golem, a dragoon, and the General add. 100% wipe-out)

Our group:
51 monk
53 cleric
53 enchanter
53 magician
52 necromancer
53 druid

Rottgrime has decent magic resistance, even after tashania our necro and enchanter were resisted on all DD's. Our mage was able to hit for max. All DoT's stuck. Snare stuck, but the earth pet's root was resisted.

Hope this helps.
RE: How to Single pull Rottgrime
# Sep 16 2002 at 8:14 AM Rating: Decent
Great info. We tried this yesterday with 1.5 groups in the 50s. Here are my comments:

1. The Goons left town rather early and by 8 pm we pulled without them being a problem.

2. The Golem outside town is unmezzable. We single pulled him first. Dropping my faction from Indiff to Dubious in 1 kill.

3. We sent our monk in Invis. He pulled with a Pouch of Quellious (summoned) throwing star. He had never actually trained this skill, so I expect he missed, got the aggro and avoided being summoned. Just a guess though.

4. I hailed Rottgrime really fast outside the gates near the ocean. Fast hailing does not work well. You have to space them out a little bit, otherwise he seems to ignore the spam.

5. The pathing outside the outpost is messed up. We tagged him a little early and he brought a couple marines with him.

6. A minute into the fight, things were going well. When the monk got up from FD, the real party began -- All of the marines came in from out of nowhere. Fortunately, crowd control went well. We managed to kill them off, our group was: Group 1: 60 warrior & 60 cleric, 55 monk & mage, druid and necro 55 to 60. Group 2: 53 cleric, 59 chanter, 55-60 druid, and a 58 wizard who was on outpost faction and /q before the kill to avoid a faction hit.

Hope thats informative. Happy Hunting.

Just a side note, and sort of a rare case deal, yet i'll make the point here.

"for those of you that do not know, when a mob returns to his spawn point, all hate is always removed"

This is not true for when you are fighting something in a pool of water, say a fish, and the run out of the water. the Fish will return to it's spawn point, but once you set foot back into the water, he will reargo on you all =( (in this process, no Fding took place, yet they still return to their spawn point, and also remeber you)

This is true though for when someone FDs, if you are FDed, and the mob returns to it's spawn point, he will forget al about you.

LOL...we just pulled El Capitan from the outpost with 2 full groups and a few stragglers...ROFL (hard to keep from laughing)...we pulled the ENTIRE outpost to SF zone, had a druid train the marines and goons all over OT while the 2 groups worked ol Capt Rottgrime...went well till the druid bit it and they all came running to help the Capt...luckily he had just died and our epic weapon questor looted him for his item (dont even know what item it was), not to much strategy involved, but we got the job done. I was fairly impressed... first try BTW too! The lvl's in the groups ranged from 46 all the way up to 56 (to include 2 clerics: THANK GOD). Total of 14 people, and only 4 died in the process. Just my two CP.

I have asked this question in game to some people have have taken him down and this is what I've heard... you need around 3 groups of 50+ to kill him and you need a FD'er to pull. Also, it MUST be done at night when many of the guards go to the Barracks for the night. Hope this helps.
