Dire Charm

I don't have much to add to this discussion. I can confirm that Dire Charming Pendle Dashinger is the way to go. For some reason, whether it's because I levitated him or cast Night's Dark Terror on him, Pendle could not swim.

So, the first time, when I decided to play it safe and pull the Tangrin to the neighboring island on the east of Tangrin's island. The monkey fled at 19% health. He swam to the mainland in Field of Bone and Pendle couldn't keep up. Pendle swam like his swimming ability was about 1 and capped there. Strange, because he didn't seem to have this problem when I tashed him and pulled him to the neighboring island where I Dire Charmed him in the first place.

Round Two. This time, I tashed Pendle and pulled him to the northern end of the Tangrin's island. Since the monkey seems to swim well, and Pendle doesn't, I decided to give him as much room as possible to finish off the Tangrin before the ape made it to the water. No NDT this time, or levitation. Just good old Chanter haste. I parked Pendle in the shallow water on the northern end of the island and pulled Mr. Monkey.

Amazingly, Pendle owned this stupid ape. The Tangrin tried to run at 19% as he always does, so I got out my own melee weapon, Illusion: Werewolf and added what minimal DPS I could. The Tangrin made it to the water and I was afraid I'd lose him again, but to my amazement, he simply turned around and continued running away on his own island. He made it to the other side of the island and we killed him in the water.

No new information to add, except I can confirm that Pendle double hits for 177. The Tangrin CAN summon. I found this out during round one, when I became aware that according to what I had read here, this ape can swim, so I tried to pull him to the northern end of the island next to Tangrin's. As I called my DC mob off, the Tangrin summoned him back.

For some strange reason, after I looted the Tangrin and some Wizzie rune he dropped, I discovered that Pendle can swim just fine. As I ran back to the mainland, to turn in some bone chips for faction in Cabilis, I got attacked by some trash level skellies. Pendle attacked them like the dutiful DC mob he was. I was surprised to see him, since I figured that since he couldn't swim, he'd still be on the island. So, it wasn't the Dire Charm that somehow made him into a lousy swimmer. Must have been either the levitation or the NDT the first time.

Got bored, so roamed a part of FoB i had never been to. Lo and behold! a named mob I had never seen.

Attack him virtually naked (wearin some random gimp chain armor + crown of deceit + a bow for that leet ranjah look :P) and fully unbuffed , and this grubby beggar starts fightin back. To my surprise he starts winning.

I notice he resists virtually everything from stuns, nukes, DoTs, root, even the Goldenrod lifetap with its -200 MR check.

Once I'm at 50% I figure somethin's not right, so I look him up while switchin back to proper tank gear (elemental/DoN geared ~7.8k/1870ac unbuffed).

Keepin self up w/HoT while readin online and fightin, mana pool starts goin dry. I use a click off the Casino-drop Vial of Ethereal mist (had no modrod on at the time), and continue to wait for websites to load.

Finally go oom, and w/o lifetaps or self-heals, I pop the oh-so-godly Pal defensive (haha), and at 10% proceed to LoH.

Continuing on, I read chanty 1.0 mob, and am like aha! (lightbulb *on*). Had him to 15% while I dropped back to 10%, and decided to win or die.
I died :P

Laughed it off, then summoned, rezzed, self-buffed (10k, 1950) and wtfpwned his monkey butt.

Round 2 went like this.

Breath of Tunare regen, one click of vendor-bought clar X pot, one click of Elixir of Healing X pot (unnecessary as it turned out), self-HoT + a few fast cast 1200 heals, Atk at 1360 w/ 2hs Basalt Greatsword (45/35 with DoT proc).

He hits 100s, low 200s. couldn't land Wavecrasher slow, nor just about anything else (didnt bother testing tash stick, or Blade of Insanity).

Never dropped below 80%. Teh ape ran like a coward at 19% (figure he didnt run last round when he was at 15% b/c I was also low hp). Chased his **** down like the worm he is. One ape corpse left to rot.

Fight ends with me at 100%hp, and 30% mana.
The end.

The real information
# Aug 03 2005 at 11:47 PM Rating: Decent
Not sure where some of you get your information but here is what just happened for me. Targin does NOT see invis. He IS resistant to most magic even at level 70. I solo'd him with my 70 mage using a focused Air Pet with Elemental Fury, Fireskin, Conviction and equipped with Fire Blades, belt & muzzle. When he came out of the water, I sent pet and tried Malosinia 3 times. He resisted all 3 tries. Tried to dot and he resisted. At that point I started healing pet and let pet have his way with Targin. I have about 6.5k mana and I used one hit off the Rod of Mystical Transvergence during the fight. When Targin went down, I was at about 60% mana. It was a pure melee fight between Targin and Pet.

The short of it is, he's not hard to do at level 70. He's a pure warrior. If he has the ability to summon, he didn't use it on me so I can't speak to the validity of that ability.

One piece of information that I didn't notice in all the posts was his respawn time.

Please don't flame on me telling me I didn't really solo him because I'm a mage using a pet. Saying a mage using a pet is not soloing is like saying a wizard using spells is not soloing.

I hope this is useful to some. Let the flaming being.
Fairly easy kill for 70 sk
# Jul 04 2005 at 7:58 AM Rating: Decent
Took a 70 sk, 70 necro, 70 cleric, and myself 60 chanter. I landed Tash on him and think one nuke landed for like 25 out of 571. He is very very highly magic resistant but did not resist one of the sk's casts. Necro couldnt land anything either so she just sent in pet to help tank. Good couple of minutes for fight. Sk dropped to high 60's hp and cleric healed for fun I guess because Tangrin went down few seconds later. HT works very well on this mob. Sk used right at the beginning of fight to get Tangrin down to 50%. Yes he does have a huge huge huge aggro range on evil races. Cleric is de and went to see if he was up. He walked onto the shore of the island and monkey took him down fast. I myself walked onto island (high elf) and he didnt even look my direction. He does summon and I would say probably 10k+ hp but am double checking that so dont flame me if Im wrong. Thanks to Goldarr, Bloodrayn, and Doctorlove.

kk, It doesn't help anyone to know some story about how you got oaned by this thing or that your raid force of 12 lv 70's killed this

Things that are important to know about a mob that you should post.

Hp
Damage double, triple, quad?
Flurry
rampage
Summon
slowable
Rootable/snarable
resists as it pertained to your lv
Procs/abilties and resistablity of those vs your lv and resists

Then a distant second are things like strats you used to kill him. That helps only ppl of your class(es)that want to do it same way (which is the fun part of the game so you spoil it imo, figuring out the strat to kill something).

Let other people figure out how scared to be of this based caclulatable data, not he beat the crap out of me im 55 SK. That tells me nothing because 9 out of 10 ppl suck at this game. I dont know if tangrin is awsome rape or if you just suck/bad gear.

I remember good and neutral bards would pull the Tangrin to the POK book and zone out. He would actually stand there and not leave for quite some time. Everytime an evil would pop in to FOB the Tangrin would be on him white on rice. :-D

That was the nature of Sullon Zek by the design of Sony.

What he describes is well within the rules and spirit of that server.

Sullon Zek was not for the faint of heart or the easily miffed.

Baloney. Zek servers are about PvP, not about arbitrary malice and cowardly setting up anonymous traps.
solo'd
# May 25 2005 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
Solo'd him, lvl 70 monk, 5.5khp unbuffed... 18/19 claws and 18/20 fists, both with 125 LT augs. Just had Conviction on me.

Ran to the smaller island and waited till i saw him... Hit him with a couple throwies and as soon as he started hitting me, i hit Riposte disc, Started putting a BIG hurt on him, quickly healed back the minimal dmg he did before disc...

When rip disc faded, i hit my Counterforce Disc (slow shield, 25% iirc) and let him hit me only 2x (all it takes for slow to land). Then i hit my Innerflame disc (DPS) and continued to drop him fast...

I hit a LT proc'n streak and my hp flux'd between 88% and 92%. Then he started resisting a few and then it was just a pure melee battle. My hps got to about 60 then i hit mend, back to 85. He was at about 42-45% at this time. I proceeded to pure melee him down. I hit Rapid Kick disc (Flying kick reuse timer reduced to 1sec) but i cancelled it after about 10sec because my endrurance got low...

I eventually got him to 12% and i was at mid 20%. He started to run and i Won! woot!

BTW, i do have my Leopard Claw disc from DON (800DD unresistable, 30sec recast) i was using that every time it pop'd

Okay, after reading these posts here I decided to drag my lazy bones 65 enchanter guild leader with me to Field of Bone and take the Tangrin.

I told him to DC Pendle like I read here. He said Okay kinda sceptically.

When we got to Tangrin Island, and set up on the smaller one to the side. He walked around the island doing his monkey thing.

Guild leader said "Ready?" and we were off.

Pendle went in and started doing his ranja thing.

Guild leader even tried to cast on him, nothin.

So we just sat back and watched this paper tank eat through the giant monkey with extreme predujice.

Monkey started running at 20%. Ran into the water and headed towards shore. Pendil got him by the shore and i got my sand.

WOOT!!!!

Thanks allahs
Thanks Fading for dc'ing Pendil for me

WOOT!!!!

friend suggested we go take this monkey, i had no idea of this guy and nor did he, he con'd red to him ( he was 51 ranger) and wondered wat con to me (53 pal) only then did we realise our mistake the aggro range is huge, once on the island that was it, we ran, made to kurns and notice monkey wasn't following, so went back for friends corpse, half way in water and monkey came racing towards me, he stunned me and i was stunned for about 10secs a go.......

Was out doing some casual exploring in FoB and ran into "The Tangrin" on an island. Man, was I surprised!

It conned Dark Blue to my 66 Warrior so I figured I could probably take it out ~ BIG MISTAKE!

I managed to get this monkey down to only 62% health before he sent me to meet my maker. I was buffed with Virtue and had just shy of 9k hps. I was hasted and utilized all appropriate discs. I have 524 AA's. I was owned big time.

Don't try this chimp on your own!

This guy summons. Took him out last night. 63 BST, 54 BST and a 55 Mage. Used all my mana healing pet. Monkey went bananas and killed all pets, the 54 BST and the 55 Mage. Summoned new pet and went in to attack. Finally beat the big ape with 42% healthe left. It dropped nothing worth mentioning. Didn't know why the 2 that died kept getting in the way until they told me it kept summoning them. All in all a good fight for me, bad for my team mates.

And just so everyone else knows, it seems likely that Pendle can ONLY be Dire Charmed. I tashed him and pulled him to the neighboring island where Tangrin lives. (I tried to bring him in a direct line the first time, but he never showed, and when I came back there he was. The second time I pulled him to the NE corner of the zone, from there to the water. I had FoE on, so I could stop and periodically make sure Pendle was still coming after me.) I attempted to use Command of Druzzil on him three times. In spite of his level, and the fact that he had been Tashed, he resisted all three times. Not wishing to keep runing myself to try to charm him, I elected to gate.

So, it looks like I will have to bring a group, or invest the AA points to get that minimally useful and severely overrated Dire Charm.

Note: Pendle Dashsinger is lvl 30, but hits for 177 or so, has more hitpoints than God, is Dire Charmable as of 2004-8-15, and will dual wield if handed weapons.

After server reset I went to see if the monkey was up. Per the posts I brought Pendle Dashinger from the entrance area to Kaesora. DC Pendle, haste him, slap the silly enchanter dmg shield on him and Rune of Zeb. Turned him loose on The Tangrin and after about the 3rd rune I decided it wasn't needed. Pendle comes with an *** load of hp. I stopped runeing him and come the end of the fight he was at 82% health. Had I known I'd not have bothered with the rune. Also this monkey resisted all my spells, even after tash....so bring yer DC and yer popcorn cause you just gonna be a spectator on this one. Aside from the Sands of the Mystics lewt was Words of Grappling and Rune of Contradiction.

Took him out tonight with me (65 warrior), 65 enchanter and 57 druid. Chanter sent in pet, I waited till mob at 50 pct hp. I attack and hit mighty strike disc when I go berserk. Druid kept me alive and mob ran at 17 pct hp. Follow with chanter pet and killed in water.

Easy Kill
# Jun 15 2004 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
Killed him easily with the help of two rangers, war, cleric, mage, and me the enchanter. The level 60 mage pet did alot of dmg on him and two rangers used their arrows on him. I slowed it, war jumped in and fought the tangrin at low HP. Cleric kept healing and we finally killed it. Dropped the sands of the mystics for my enchanter epic.

My encounter with The Tangrin
# Mar 29 2004 at 3:34 PM Rating: Decent
My friend, a 65 necro, and I, a 61 shaman, killed this mob very easy last night.

Disease based slow stuck on the first cast, and he never resisted dots. I maloed him(no resist), and my 75% slow didnt stick till he was around 35%. He gets much easier after the 40% disease based slow sticks though.

I mostly just kept the necro pet alive with my 2k hp 10 second heal.

Oh, and don't bother running from him, he is bard speed, (my sister found that out the hard way) If your in trouble, don't be worried to gate, if your mana is getting to close just get the hell out of there.

Hope this helps
