The griifin is a stupid thing with a brain just like a walnut. Although he is so big and huge you can kill it with a doughnut. Yes, he is in the Karana place, where the bugs and lions roam. But did you ever wonder what he likes to call home? Well, the griffin flys around, so dumb and badly-tempered. That's why he can't go to sleep, or walk or jog in decemper. So, now that you know about this thing that's so dimwitted and smelly and gross, mabye you can attack it more easily, DON'T BE FOOLED BY IT'S LOOK, BROS!
Lv 31

I'm level 31 and recently started hunting NK to see what there is to see. Other than getting maimed by the Silver Griffon and GrimFeather, there isn't much -- except these guys.

When I first saw one of these formidable creatures on track I strayed far away. Eventually I found one that conned yellow to me and kited it to death. After meditating until I was FOM, I decided to become a little more daring -- that yellow griffon went down too easilly for my tastes.

I proceeded to hunt down a griffon with tracking. Once I saw it on the screen (I realized my tracking was getting good when the closest one was halfway across the zone) I cast ensnare, ran off, cast a DoT, ran off, nuked, ran off, etc. until I went OOM. At this point, I waited for the DoT to get him down to 20pct whilst med-kiting him (running almost out of range and meditating, then running off again, etc. for those of you who don't know about that tactic yet) until he finally turned around and, being snared, couldn't run off, so I nuked him with what I'd medded up on and proceeded to hit him with my 1hs until he died.

It took a long time, but the xp and loot was worth it -- a pearl that I sold for 15pp to a vendor.

Good pets, I went to EK to pick up some silk for my tailoring skill was lvl 40 at the time and saw a griffon on track instead of avoiding it or killing it, I charmed it, SoWed it and then off we went, killed everything in sight, got 6 stacks of silk and killed a few hill giants in the process, only had to recharm 4 times each time lasted over 5-8mins if he breaks charm, root him then recharm, then cancel magic the Root, if the cancel magic removes the sow or the charm just recast cause he will still be rooted.

I was just gonna post a charm/pet post. they are great. I will risk it and try to charm a red GRIF of any kind (im only 19) usually a griffeene... but if it fails I just run to guards...And if you get a RED pet, send him as far away as you can to kill stuff. and never let him near you. :)

And to the LOL, I dont know what to say... pound for pound a griffon hits very hard. If you con a beatle for example, and you send in your pet griffeene (or griffon) same con, the pet looses like a bubble, and the beatle is dead. You dont know what your talking about. They are not implying they are invincable, but yes, id call them an undercon. Some also run faster then a 35 sow AND cast snare.

Anyways, wanna see the funniest thing ever in EQ? Tell the griffon to /PET SIT DOWN ... he will stand on his rear haunches, and use his talons as if they are hands, gesture and apear to oritate... he will move his little beak, like he could be saying

"oh yes darling, simply lovely... very ravashing indeed"

I dont know the word for it, and im not gonna reach for one and offend anyone. but he is very 'Sheek' if you tell him to sit. :) its
actually adorable, my g/f laughed and laughed.

Griffs bite. Literally. Once with my 29 BST, I was waiting for NK spires to go up to Nexus when BOOM, a Griff comes outta nowhere and starts kickin the eqip off everyone. Some ppl (Me too) retreated to the guard bridge. Oddly, the guards didnt aggro. 3 ppl died b4 griff flew away. But the second the griff began to go, the spires went up.

Next griffon I see, he'll have a great suprise.... hehe.... : pulls out a large Goranga Spiked Club

these things are super weak fer the lvl lol. Ppl ***** how griffons are undercons. no. want to fight an undercon? Go to Holloshade Moor and fight Gorehorn lol no joke when i fought him witha lvl 40 ranger who was passin through the zone. It took me down to 2 bubs of hp and the ranger down to 3 bubs. if it was just me i would prolly have died. BTW he conned light blue to th ranger and i was 37 and he conned db.....so that may say something of an undercon lol.

OR

Go fight coteries. LOL mthey con DB to me at 40 and can kick 3 HG's a$$ in one fight lol. Ok maybe not 3 but about 3 coterie vamps could easly destory 4 or 5 HG's. They can flurry and have a 200dmg Lifetap with the ability to cast invis on there selves along with the fact that they hit fer 80ish and have DoT's. They are super nasty, when going in to TM pls be safe all....
I hate anything in the 'griff' family.

Nuff said lol... of all the things that have killed me in NK it's these stupid Griffs! Even if they con good to you I wouldn't recommend solo'ing them because they are a pain in the rear.

I'm a level 44 warrior and soloed one of these today near the spires. Was a tough battle and only had 2 bubbles left when it finally went down. Had nothing on it but a griffon feather. It hit hard but for a lv. 37 mob it didn't seem to have too much energy.
47 Chanter
# Feb 05 2002 at 2:49 PM Rating: Default
I am a 47 chanter. I went looking for this guy to get the eye from him. I kill a couple of them with on DD then I found one that almost killed me 3 times. I would cast my 528 DD spell on him. and by the time I could cast mez he would hit through rune4, and beat me down to like nothing. I would suggest for any casters to take along a druid when doing the crafted quest. Snare and sow would be great aswell as track is almost a must. Good Luck

These things are easy as a 40 Chanter, your tactic is just way messed up! 1 I use my 39 pet, cast celerity on it. 2 First cast is Tishani, let it hit you. Rune will absorb all the damage. 3 Cast Chase the moon. 4 Follow and cast DoT, DD at will, recast fear spell, preferably before it wears off but after is fine. 5 Dead griffon and no damage to yourself. I don't use rune and loose about 1 bub of health from initial assault.

Just an fyi was in NK yesturday with a friend of mine who's a level 44 druid and we ran into a griffon that con'd blue to him. So the levels seem to very. And for those melee classes that actually have to stand toe to toe with them, they were hitting me for about 94 max (I was level 12)

My 2nd griffon that I killed today, 1st one was black in ek, the 2nd one was yellow.. put up a good fight, lots of resists.... Just tried to snare, dot, and slow, and pray that I could make it to zone if need be... dropped griffon eye, lambent stone, and a feather... it was a good fight... much harder than it was fighting a yellow griffinne when I was lower levels... 33 druid, soon to be 34 unless I die.

Was on my Crafted Armor quests.. was on a roll one night: Got the Aviak Charm on the first kill, bought the damn Optic Nerves and got a 50+ to help me get the Frost Totem.. anyways, zoned into NK planning to look for the Griffon for awhile and *poof*, there it was rght infront when I zoned. Anyhow, the sucka conned blue to me at lvl 35. Hard to solo as a Warrior. I suggest any Warriors get a Druid friend to snare, fear and heal for ya.

Level Issue
# Nov 06 2001 at 9:51 AM Rating: Default
I was roaming around NK the other day on the TM server looking for a port when I saw a griffon flying by. The thing coned blue and since I needed griffon feathers for a focus item (I'm a magician) I decided to summon up an earth pet and take it on. Well I was pretty close to beating the thing, and would have had I been at full mana instead of 60%. But this isn't really the point, the point is it coned blue and I'm level 37 so I think there is an error in info this site gives, maybe it will help someone better evaluted there chances of taking one of these on.

Ok,
I dont expect many to believe this, but I really dont care. Anyone who doubts is welcome to send me a Tell on Xegony and I'll prove it (Gutto is char name). Here's some advice for a fellow druid. I'm level 34 right now and hunting in NK. Last night I soled 2 Griffons and 1 Griffene all with 4 bulbs of mana. Thats 2 blue bars in about 8 - 10 minutes. Sure I had to med back up after which is another 12 minutes. My wisdom is about 185. Basically soling I can get a yellow bub an hour. Druids get knocked on a lot but after this I dont see how anyone can dispute their power. Teleports, Heals for 300, Nukes for 250, DoT for 300, Sow, Harmony and I melee for 35dmg. Heh...my druid took down a yellow, white, and blue on one cycle of mana and never took a hit. Hmmm....those are the facts...Druids rock!! Of course I play a different character when I group though b/c most dont appreciate them. I have 3 accounts and all three accounts have almost ever slot taken. The Druid by far has been the best playing character I have. At least in terms of over all power and being well rounded. A group is a different story. But then I think they are good for that too.

Just my thoughts

Rabid Griffons are the same lvl as normal griffons the only difference is that they can give you rabies so your lvl 42 to 46 should have had no problem killing that griffon.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 01 2001 at 11:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) These guys r E Z to solo for a druid(for me atleast). I soloed a yellowed one starting out with snare and fear. Then I doted and DD down to half mana, med some up refeared and re DD. Had to cast Drones of doom twice in battle. The thing I noticed was that it had low MR and not high but below average FR. Snare, fear, and DoD always stuck and combust only resisted a little(not completely resisted). I was a 34 druid with 162wisdom and this one was yellow. BTW drained all my mana to kill it tho.
RE: E Z kill
# Apr 06 2001 at 12:00 PM Rating: Default
If you know what you are doing, they are a fairly easy kill. They do have a decent MR and FR. Snare and DoD will almost always stick. Immolate, combust and fury may have a harder time. I am a 38th druid with 193 wis and starting with FM I will usually drain to about 40 even with root/med. The loot and the exp are pretty decent when killing these guys and the HGs that regularly spawn.

Easy

I started to solo these at lvl 32, I just snared... DoTed, then feared. And hit it with DD's... Really easy for a red. Fear kiting on animals is real easy for a druid. Sometimes I would cast Imm and CC in beginning... its your choice easy and good exp.

I am but a small Mage (lvl 19) and wish to share my first experience with one of these terrors. I was camped at the guard tower and spied a Scythe beetle in the distance. I summoned my pet and went to engage. When I arrived someone else had engaged the beetle and was having a rough time of it. I cast a buff on the poor guy to help him out, turned, and found my pet engaged with 2 Griffawns. We dispatched one but the other did in my pet. With my options rapidly diminishing, I high-tailed it back to the tower where the guards dutifully dispatched the second griffawn. Wounded and with no mana, I had no choise but to meditate. I was about 1/3 up when I heard a horrible screech and discovered a Griffon engaged with both guards. The guards seem to be having a tough time with it so, again, I bestowed my only buff (Fire Shield) on each of them. Alas, the brute dispatched both guards and then turned after me. Needless to say, my token resistance was futile.
