It took me a while to figure this out, but in OT there are two distinctly different mobs: the sabERtooth tigress and the sabREtooth tigress. The former are lvl 14-16, the latter about 10 levels higher.
The same applies to sabertooth and sabretooth tigers.
for lower lvl mobs hunt in the north east corner the eaiest critters are there ,,for a necro its a perfect place to learn and perfect) your fear kiting...cast darkness send pet ..fear till it sticks and then your dot of choise ...as a rule try to get in the last blast in case your pet out damages you
When bored I tried a tactic I read somewhere at eq.castersrealm.com in the druid section. These critters are very nice to do this with.
The the Befriend/Charm animal spel (I tested both - no diffrence found.. duration still very random) sticks to these like glue. I never had a charm lasting shorter then atleast 30secs.
These run at SoW speed so before casting the charm I snared em, so that when the charm broke I didnt have a very upset kitty on my lap and couldnt recast. After the charm.. do a pet buff like feral spirit (the pet is going to die anyway) and next up shield of XXXX .. fill in you favorite dmg shield.
You shouldnt have alot of problems finding a target in the lake and let your pet attack.. Dot the target and walk away and med. Press F1 2x to target your pet and med. When the charm breaks .. stand up.. recast and wait for pet to die.
The Mob you chosen will be shredded by the dmg shield, the attacks of your pet and the dot. Hopefully leaving you with about 3 to 4 bubs of mana to finish it off.
This tactic while fun gets very boring very quickly and ofcourse is full with risks.
1. Medding in the open field is unhealthy to begin with. One passing mob can make it very uncomfterable. One angry pet and 2 angry mobs makes it a "run for the zone situtation" very quickly.
2. It seems that everyone has diffrent experiences with charm spells. It works ok for me and I dont have any cha gear so.
For a level 16 character, these cats are surprisingly easy. Most that I encountered were level 16--even, and none took more than about 2 bubbles of hp and mana for a shaman without a great weapon. The loot sometimes also includes a sabretooth fang which is good coin, although a bit weighty (1.2).
I hunted these things from lvl 16-20, I would say in a comparison between level and difficulty they are right up there with the sirens in OOT. As a bard I could solo them and only lose at the very most half my life. I highly recommend hunting them.
I went to Ill Omen via a ride from oasis and a long walk from the overthere to fight these things. I was told they would be about my level, but EVERY one I seen conned RED. Back to Oasis.....
At 16, I went to the Overthere and fought these for a while, most con blue to me. They sometimes drop a sabertooth fang or something of the sort. I have 33 charisma and it sold for 1pp and some odd change. Very good loot for my level.
Urgle Troll Warrior of Morgoth Mithaniel Marr Level 16
They vary in level, especially in the Overthere. They conned blue to me at 20, but the ones further down past the chasm, more toward the guards agroed on me and hit for 75 damage...very very red.
