GREAT XP at Low and Mid 30's

After reading all this post, I wonder why people are waiting until they are low, mid, and late 40's and even lvl 50 to kill these buggers. Kill them at low 30's and watch your XP fly =D. Makes me feel like I am lvl 1 again, where you kill a mob and you instantly DING or close to ding =).

These are really good XP at low lvl because of the HOT zone Bonus. But before you venture out and try to get yourself a rezz for trying this stunt, make sure you are TOP of the line for your skills, gears and spells and don't be ashame to beg, plead and ask for High lvl buffs, You will NEED them! If you are other class than a shaman, save up and BUY POTIONS! DS, HP, STA, C, HP regen potions etc. These may be time consuming but being prepare is half the Battle!

Seriously, if people look into these precautions and extreme measures, they would not be LFG until they hit like 75+ for better xp. EQ can be enjoy by both soloing experiences and group experiences. I prefer soloing at low lvl due to extreme bloodrush the Hunt, the chase, and the kill and run for ZONE line! =D Also more freedom about not having to worry about NBG or Some poor manner person that rubs everybody the wrong way.
My Experiences
# Oct 29 2006 at 11:26 PM Rating: Decent
I recently had the pleasure of tangling with these critters while doing a medium length task, and I'd like to share my experiences.

My character was a reasonably well bazaar equipped level 43 enchanter. My pet animation was armed and equipped with summoned items courtesy of my level 62 magician.

I would cast illusion: water elemental to take care of breathing underwater. I would engage the goblins that I found at the corners of the big sunken building. One goblin would be pacified, and the other pulled via shiftless deeds followed by tashania before the goblin reached me. Then I would chain-stun it with color flux, color shift, and color skew, in that order. After casting color skew, I would sneak in suffocate and then resume chain-stunning. Suffocate was reapplied when it ran out, when necessary.

To sum it up, each battle usually took a few minutes while my pet and suffocate spells gradually wore the goblin down. Overall, these goblins were significantly tougher compared to the undead critters that I had previously fought on the beach in the Gulf of Gunthak, primarily due to the goblin's abundant hit points and increased hitting power. They are not too tough, but they are not pushovers by any stretch.

One final word: Beware of where you fight the goblins near the sunken building. They are a number of stationary barracudas that stand on guard near the building, and you definitely don't want to fight too close to them and risk having them join the battle at an inopportune time. Check all around you (as well as up) before you select your fighting spot!
How to find this guy
# Dec 11 2004 at 12:47 PM Rating: Decent
Hey everyone...i just wanted to give an explanation as to how to find these guys if you are doing the task regarding the lake gobbies. If you go to the far side of the lake across from the FV zoneline...face the middle of the lake on your map and you should be directly in front of the zone line to Veksar. walk directly in toward the Veksar zone until you are just in front of the submerged building. Of course you will need a Enduring Breath item, it is pointless to pull the mobs to the beach and much more effective to fight them in the water. there will be 2 mobs just in front of the zone door...and 2 more to either side of you if you are standing back from the door a bit. I just killed those four over and over as the spawn timer is just around 7 mins or so. GL all

Don't everyone camp the two or three mobs at the entrance to veks. The building the entrance is in, is rectangular. Just swim up onto the submerged roof of this building and you will find at least two and sometimes 4 mobs in each corner of the building by the support posts going to the surface. Watched 8 people all squabling over two spawns at the entrance for the collectors scales tonight while I went and cleared house and got 8 drops of the collectors scales...... yes I did OOC the locs to ease teh pressure on the front entrance mobs.

I severely doubt he would follow you since mobs in Kunark tend to lose interest after you get a certain distance away from them. Your best bet is to just swim it or keep your EB up and duke it out underwater. I leveled my bard here from level 42 to level 49 by pulling them to the beach and circle-dotting (Run in a circle singing single target dots till they fall over).

It's been a while since I've been there, but they went down easily enough. They seem to have very low resists which means you should do very well as a Shaman. For melee classes, they can be annoying, but they don't hit terribly hard. Roughly as hard as the Stonegazer Cockatrice(s) in The Overthere.

These seem to have about 1300-1400 hp. My level 49 wizard became a level 50 wizard very fast last night. Ice Comet alone makes them flee and I never had one resist. Shock of Frost makes a good finishing blow. Even if you barely have mana for IC, there will be enough left to cast SoF if you have good specialization and focus. With 111 stamina, I can kill two easilly before I surface.

More important than KEI, offer some mage 15pp or a port and ask specificly for "A Ring, a Bracer and an Earring". I'm addicted. Reduced mana use from focus item isn't quite as good as KEI, but it doesn't wear off, even if you die. Enhanced damage makes Ice Comet average about 1200. Nuke Haste makes Ice Comet practical against snared agros.

These are a great camp for Mages in the low-mid 40s.

Fire pet, Burnout II, full set of plate, 2 swords. Take the "top level" with the 4 spires of 2 goblins each. Send pet in FIRST (don't pull with a bolt or malaise, or you're dead!). Start healing pet immediately. /assist, low aggro nuke (shock of spikes), heal, repeat til dead. When the first one dies, target the second one. It should be around 60-75% life just by hitting on the pet's damage shield. Heal, /assist, Blaze or Cinderbolt and it will be about 7%. You can let pet finish off, or nuke. Pet will beat low health, but they regen like crazy after 39.

At lvl 42 and 43, I received from 1-2%xp PER goblin. At 44 it gets even better because of the improved pets, and improved pet heals.

Their max hit is around 75, but average in the high 40s, and they have approximately 1200-1400 HP. They drop anywhere from 5 silver to 5pp. Destroy the coins, because they sell for junk at merchants, and nobody wants them at bazaar. Destroy the scales unless you are an Iksar and want to get the armor they provide.

Note: If you get one with the trident spear, go sell it at the windmill immediately. They sell for 55pp to the vendor there, and they are lore. The drop rate (for me) was 1 in 20.

Pulling the Goblins
# Dec 04 2002 at 11:00 AM Rating: Default
I don't know why everyone keeps saying to kite them to the shore.

Pulling them to the submerged platform is much easier. I've never had one run, so don't worry about getting an add or losing track of it.

The submerged platform is much close to the spawn points, and as long as you're not a dwarf, gnome or halfling, you can sit and still breathe.

Monk 47
# Apr 12 2002 at 9:00 PM Rating: Decent
I started solo this at 47, with SOW and try to swim to the beach. But it was no success :-( Then I read somewhere about a "Rebreather", tinker stuff made by Gnomes, which gives you nonstop breathing under Water. I found a guy who made these on my server (thanx eqtrade) and got the price..2.5k..I had to sell a pair of gloves and then finally got enough pp to buy one...Down in the water, with the Rebreather, I started to hunt the Bloodgils - just as usual. And If I got any adds - its not a problem for a Monk. After a while when I've learned spawnplaces/times, I got some real nice exp! A little warning for Monks: the Rebreather weights 10 stone - for me it really wasn't a problem. I also had to get a GLS: the light source was on my head where I put the Rebreather. Finally I must say: hunting under water is one of the most cool I ever made in the game :-).

Newb Guide for Shammies
# Mar 20 2002 at 2:39 PM Rating: Good
I started kiting these at lvl 43 as a barb shammie and did 'em till lvl 49. Exp was great and lvling was peaceful. Anyway, just wanted to write a helpful beginner's guide with a very safe approach for learning to do these guys (for Shamans). If you're more of a dive right-in type of person (no pun intended) then you can just skip over this post.

Prequisites: 1) Gotta know where the sunken temple is obviously. 2) I also recommend you max out your swimming. At 200 swimming with SOW you can maintain the distance between you and the BG in the water but you can NOT increase it. This means that if you let him get within melee range, he will stay there the WHOLE way to shore... if this happens, get ready for the most frantic swimming of your life.

Getting Your Feet Wet: Facing out toward the sunken temple from the shore, invis. up and go scout around. You'll notice it's awful dark down there and easy to stumble into something you don't want to... that's why you have invis up. What you want to do now is locate the 2 seperate pairs that are the closest to shore. One pair will be out and to the left, located between 4 pillars. The other will be out and to the right, also located between 4 pillars. Found 'em? Ok good, now get comfortable with getting back to shore from those locations.

Pulling: Ok get sow up and any other buffs you want. Also, make sure root and your preferred dots are up. Where's you pet? Don't use one. 3 reasons why NOT to use one:
1) If you get hit on your way back to shore, the pet will dive in and start fighting it under water (unless you've parked it way the heck out there), you don't want this.
2) You can't invis for finding/targeting the BGs if you have a pet. Yes, it's possible to target without invis, but remember what I said about this being the "safe" approach.
3) Pet gets chewed up very quickly and increases your downtime dramatically if you have to resummon, rebuff, and med. Believe me, I tried pets for a while, it just isn't as efficient as going without one.

Ok, so lets start with the pair that's out and to the left (from shore). Invis up, head down and get one of 'em targeted. Now, if you slowly head back toward the shore and stay deep underwater, you should spot a lone pillar that's out a little ways from the BGs. The pillar is completely submerged so you can stand on top of it and use it as a casting spot for pulling. Ok, when you're positioned on the pillar and facing toward the shore, go ahead and cast root... yes, you heard me right, root. We're doin 'em one at a time. If it says you're too far away then most yourself closer to the edge of the pillar toward the BGs. Soon as you get root off, start swimming like hell for the shore. Do NOT surface, you swim slower when surfaced so make you way to shore submerged until your feet hit ground. Once on shore keep running a ways and wait for the BG to emerge from the water. Don't forget you gotta target him cuz the one you had targeted is rooted down below. (Note: If your root was resisted underwater then root again when you and the BGs are both on shore. Then run a ways along the lake with one still chasing to put distance between the two BGs. If you put enough distance, then the other will forget about you and return to his pull spot.) Ok, so now you're dealing with one BG. Root, dot (malise if you like), and make them remember why they phear us!

With your first BG dead, it's time to camp out. NO, I'm not telling you to go to bed, but if you swim back down there for the other one he'll come right after you before you can even see him and he'll stay on you all the way to shore (Take a wild guess on how I learned about this). Logging back in, with aggro wiped, the second one will be even easier since he won't have a friend. (Starting to see the value now in not having a pet?)

For the pair out and to the right, do the same thing. Select BG, move toward shore a ways to create distance, and then pull with root to seperate.

All good? Rinse, repeat, and modify the approach as you see fit.

A Note on Theory: Why not dual kite them? The likelihood of your petting getting killed (if you use one) or you taking damage goes up dramatically when doing two or more at a time (keep in mind I'm speaking to Shamans). Let me explain it clearer:

1) Since you're only dealing with one, you can easily keep it rooted and med in peace as those dots do their work. This means that when you're finished with the kill, you'll require very little medding to be ready for the next one. Try seeing how long you get to med doing two, little or not at all.
2) With no pet, there's no downtime for summoning/buffing and no mana wasted on slowing. Also, it's difficult for your pet to tank one of these (let alone two) while the BG's rooted. If you choose not to root the BG then you're not medding at all during the entire fight and probably wasting time pulling your pet off when it aggros too much... again, equaling less efficiency in the kill.

Yes, there's a lot of satisfaction in saying you did two at a time but compare the mana used per kill AND mana recovered during the fight (through medding) you'll find one at a time is more effiecient. But hey, don't take my word for it. Try both ways if you're gonna be so darn stubborn about it and post your thoughts :)

i;ve gotten anywhere from 1silver and copper off em all the way up to 6 pp and a harpoon of the depths. Great solo mob if you know what your doing. Take the time to learn how to hunt underwater and how to kite them to shore. If you have lev up, you dont need end breath if your pulling to shore (45-48 reccomended kill style) as you simply surface and go about 2/3 the way back to shore, turn and make sure your buddy's still following, then keep goin to shore. you CAN loose them easily if you dont stop, so be sure you do. When you get on shore, move inland about 50 feet and start pumping your root button... then it'll cast when he's almost to shore and will root em on the beach... dot away and laugh as their measily 1200 (+/-) hps melt away to our evil spell line. When you hit 49 and get ebolt, just swim down to em, root em where they stand and one ebolt will tick away almost ALL but like 5% (if that) of their hitpoints. a pet is handy on this style of fighting, but be sure your swimming is good, and remember, its MUCH easier to have spells inturrupted underwater as you drift when hit... pet helps prevent this, and will finish off the mobbies for you while you drink a beer and see whats on the local sports stations...
hope this helps all my younger shammy bro's and sistahs!

i grinded through 47 and 48 off these fairly quickly the strategy is pretty simple
first i just got a sow from some nearby druid or sham that was amazed by my uberness.
pulling them i found that sometimes even if i casted on one the other wouldnt come so i used charm to pull, if it resists you ar almost guranteed to get both of them and if it sticks just have him attack the other one, ss boots and gloves help alot.
for fighting i just ran aroud the pillars by the gobbie ruins twisting 3 chants and they go down pertty quick. i could hold down 3 of the double spawns with very little overlap.
got about a yellow per 45 minutes using this method

They must swim at a 255 swimming skill, as I am at 200 and they catch upto me quite often. The easiest thing for a wiz and other casters (int/wis) is to Lev to yourself first, then use jboots/sow and run to land.

Pull, swim to the surface and run to your pull spot, it/they will be close behind.
