Without Boats?

Since the boats don't run anymore, what is the easiest way to get to this island now? Take the translocator gnome from BB?

-9300, -5800 IS a correct approximate loc for this island in Timorous Deep. I am standing on the island now in that general area.

Great exp camp. I only just started here at 30 and with my new lvl30 Warder, I can solo 6-7 Golras, before I need to stop for a med break. I'll stay here until they start to con Light Blue. Only wish I had come to the Iceberg a few levels earlier.

Myself and a few guildies came here to camp the gorlas on the iceburg, and this camp is pretty decent. As a level 26 Ranger I am not able to cast effectively on the hulking ones, but the regular gorlas are all yellow or white to me, so that is no issue. My party consisted of a level 32 Shadow Knight and a level 27 Cleric, and we had little problem (except the cleric running out of mana). I was actually able to tank the regular gorlas pretty easily and just let the Shadow Knight do his think on the tougher hulking ones. We all made a pretty decent chunk of experience here. Best thing is, we were the only ones on the island, so no contested camps or anything.

We also made some plat (of course for a newbie ranger, any plat is decent). We were averaging maybe 50 plat an hour killing these things. Now split 3 ways that sucks, but the experience is well worth it. I went from no exp in level 26 to just shy of a bub of exp to go to level 27 in a few hours here. The shadow knight actually leveled here. I will be coming back for a while until I get to my mid 30s... the spaced out spawn makes it easy to med/heal before taking on another one. Downtime was kept to a minimum and you can make quick work of the island with a small party. I think at most on my track at any given time I had 7 gorlas (yellow), 1 gorla (white), and 3 hulking gorlas (red). We never got into a situation where we were fighting more than one, so it is EASY to control.

In my opinion, after Paludal Caverns, this is the best place to go with a decent group to make some really good experience with little downtime and little chance of dieing.

Great soloing

Took my mage from 30 to 34 with these things. I used air because of crappy research skill, and found them to be very effective. Combined with summoned focus items, I could take two of these down w/o running out of mana.

getting onto the island is easy, bind yourself at the docks in fv and take the boat.. you will pass right by the island. I have a swimming skill of 125 and swam all the way there when zoned in from bb and beat the maiden's voyage.

Well, I've been camping Golras for the past few days, and this is what I have noticed:

minimum loot: 2cp
maximum loot: 4p11g9s13cp
average seems to be just over 1p in odd coins

They drop runes and words at a rare rate.
They drop chunks of ice at a common rate.

I have seen only one drop an Eye of Serilis. It looks like a gargoyle's eye, and is stackable. I have no idea what these are for, so if someone knows, please post.

I only did the hit point total on one 25th level guy. He had between 842 and 886 HPs. I'm assuming the higher levels ones were just under 1000.

These also have a weird flee tactic, it may be a bug. When they start to run, if they run too far, they will despawn, and repop in their original spot, with the same damage taken, and start to run again. They all seem to run in a southwestern direction. So, if you are worried about them fleeing you into another golra or hulking, stop, and let them go, and run back to their original spawn point. Note: I have had to 'chase' a few down to get them to go far enough so that they would re-pop.

At 35th, I was able to solo these with my BABS at half health, kill it, bandage up to half again, and hit the next one. I was doing the four spawn in the northwestern section of the island and only have a minute or so where I could sit down after bandaging before the next would pop.

These are great xp, and great loot. And there are two merchants at the elf island just a bit north, but I don't know what they sell, as I am an ogre, and can't fit through the tiny doors. :-( If they sell food and bandages, I think any class could camp these things until they got bored or they don't give xp any more. Then you could move onto the Hulking Golras.

Eye of Serilis is for Mage research. Be nice, give it to a Mage Because research is a pain in the butt and very costly.

Everyone is talking like you need to be around 30 for these things. My rogue, a bard, and a pally were all here at 23 24 and 22 respectively. We had an easy time with them. The spawn spots are widely distributed, and as long as you stay away from teh Hulking ones, this is easy stuff.
Monks on the berg
# Jul 18 2001 at 5:15 AM Rating: Default
I am a 27 Monk on Tholuxe. I was out here with a 30 Druid friend of mine. We took down a couple with no problems. To the Monk on this thread, 25 is doable with a tank or a good healer. You wont stand up to them very long.

At 27 I didnt see any that werer green and they hit anywhere from 50-70 (and were not talking the hulking either).

To the person talking about taking the boat out here...I have yet to take the boat to this island, everytime it has been a run with lev and sow or just swim it. But be very careful, there are limited areas to climb onto the berg and these little suckers will follow you into the drink without a thought if you fall off. Had to pull my bod from the sea floor and friends and neighbors that aint fun.
what should i do

do they drop golra skin
# Jul 03 2001 at 4:02 PM Rating: Default
i have been camping regular golras for about 2 days now with my 30 shadow knight trying to get golra skin. Do regular golras drop it or is it just hulking?
RE: do they drop golra skin

Hulking only. It took my SK well over 30 Hulkings to get her Hide.. Good luck to anyone doing it. Not common, but a good place to hunt at the right levels.

Just hulking, and even they don't drop skins often from what I've heard. Got alot of words and runes from the regulars, though. I've camped them for 3 levels now. Great xp and very low risk.

I am wondering if a chanter could solo one of these or more. Not quite that level yet, however I am slowly soloing my chanter up the ranks, and this zone sounds the safest yet

In reading a mage guide, they recommened coming here at 29, after we get our new spells. What would be the reletive difficulty of this? I am 28, almost 29, and am thinking of going here when I hit 29. Should I?

There are 2 choices (as a fellow mage I know this worked, lol), use fire and be the healer, pull with low damage spell to get full exp. Earth pet isn't necessary but will need a fair amount of healing.

Although I didn't start soloing here till 32, this was using my 29 pet so you should be able to do it just as easily
RE: Level?
# Aug 22 2001 at 4:26 PM Rating: Default
I tried this spot at 30 and went to 35 in 3 days grouping on and off with a druid. The kills went fairly easy either way, but having an earth pet or snare is a must because of the damage they deal out.

Soloing

At lvl 30 I took my Erudite Mage here. Its a little rough but I only had to gate out once when I accidently pulled to a spot where another popped, DUH. Anyways I have used a few different tactics and here is what I found. Fire pet works well but dies if you don't heal often. Water pet doesn't need as many heals but you have to keep dmg shield up on it and the Golras will hit you alot. Earth pet seems to work the easiest - keep pet equipped with weapons, burnout spell on and dmg shield on, cast malaise on the Golra, send in the pet, the heal the pet when it drops to 75% health, then start nuking with shock spell. Occasionally check pets health and heal as needed. This works pretty well, I only cast nuke about 2 times, once right after I heal the pet and once at end of battle to finish it off. Got 31 in no time. Was getting a little less than half a blue bub a kill.
