it's not a timed drop
# Sep 05 2001 at 8:17 AM Rating: Default
I killed him on innoruuk and it was at around 6:10 am so I can assure you it's not a timed drop as the rumour has it I didn't get any thing but the guk weed but I'm sure i will as I return to camp this mob again. at 32nd level you still get decent exp with these guys too and one was even blue to me =o).

If you're level 30-ish or below--
In the battles where the mutant friends end up helping, you may find yourself handling 2-3 additional monsters, plus even a froglok worst case. That pretty much means you're going to be out of mana at the end of the battle.

Battles like this happened about 1 out of 3 times for me, and I wouldn't have enough mana to gate out. To make things safer, I bound myself in the swamp. I'd gate out to the swamp and keep sow up at all times. Staying buffed wasn't a big deal-- it gave me something to do between spawns.

Then I practiced getting back out, in case I needed to run out when I didn't have enough mana to gate.

Another interesting thing I did during my camp here. I powerlevelled a friend who has a level 17 enchanter (well level 19 now). I'd do pulls for him from the room full of frogloks up the ladder. It turns into a far more interesting and productive camp when I did this. Also he was even able to help with some of the adds when things got dicey.
Degenerated Guk Weed
# Sep 04 2001 at 1:09 AM Rating: Decent
I fought this MF for about 24 hours over 3 days. I was seriously beginning to wonder if the guk weed was EVER going to drop, but I guess that's normal to wonder that on a camp this long.

It dropped for me at 11:09pm PST, which I find interesting, considering the rumors about time drops and the fact that someone else reported an 11:11pm PST drop.

I did this camp as a level 31 druid solo. I died a few times. Dealing with the high green and blue drones/soldiers can be a serious challenge. I had to gate out maybe one out of 5 battles, and felt nervous in many more battles. It's trivial when you don't get the mutant's friends helping-- he's dead in 30 seconds. But when he gets lots of help the battles would frequently be VERY close. Since the battles were so close sometimes, I found it helpful to buff myself to the hilt: strength, barbcoat, skin like steel, endure fire (they cast ignite a lot), heck even firefist. Firefist may sound laughable, but more than once I had to beat down mobs when out of mana, and it was a race to see if I could kill my target (while he had drones healing him) before I died.

The thing that puzzles me the most is that I killed him maybe 70 times, and NEVER ONCE did he cast clockwork poison on me. He rarely even did ignite! He usually just kept chain-casting snare on me. I was almost disappointed to never encounter clockwork poison!

Wow.. that time is very close to when I got mine. I asked a 45 druid to hold the mutant camp while I held the AC camp. If the AC spawned I'll let him get the legs. It never spawned while he was on. Anyway, we did this over a 2 day period. Mildew from first kill on first day. Weed on second day. I was leaving to goto Unrest when he sais "pop", then a not much later, "weed dropped, coming back? you have plenty of time - 6 mins 20 secs". I gated into UGuk and got my weed. I'm pretty happy. One tip if you decide to camp mutant and AC - get your swimming up. You might have to out swim some camp stealers, especially when you run between the camps. I'm gonna go try for Moltor now. He is a random rare spawn with random PHes right?

Gynok is hard to get, tho he is only a lvl 25 mob, i believe he is a undercon. Took me over 35 hours total time from the first time I camped him, but then got him to spawn twice in 12 hours. First he dropped the copper ring err, then he dropped the plat ring. Now I am just waiting on the stupid mutant to drop the weed, Darn Pothead.
silver ring
# Sep 03 2001 at 7:55 PM Rating: Decent
Silver ring can also be looted in Runnyeye off the Sporali's. I am not sure which one in particular, and it is a fairly rare drop, but camping there for it will give you a chance at a Sporestrand shield or Defender blade, both are rare loots off the Sporali's. If you are camping with a group you can take out the Moldmaster, but you need to be really smooth about it and a full group of average level 25-28 or higher, we did it but everyone but me died, we were mostly lower 20's though. Moldmaster drops Defender blade common, and sporali something or another gloves rare which are a haste item worth upwards of a 1K on any server, possibly 3K on some servers, I think they are 7% haste or there abouts.

I'm asuming that you need the spores to get your Paw of Opolla, Right?

Anyway, most people don't bother looking for the Spores to get the Silver Ring, because the Silver Ring can be found by a decent swimmer in the lake at the bottom of Blackburrow. Go look for it there, and just worry about the Guk Weed and the Bracket Mildew for the copper and gold rings.

Tried to get to the fungus room today following the eqatlas.com map and got lost and got killed. Does anyone have a detailed description on how to get to the room from the zone? Thanks in advance.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 24 2001 at 6:57 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah this is probably what im gonna work on now. Im level 23, so im sure with a group i can do the Fungus mutant parts. i'm interested in doing the paw of opalla quest (20 druid) but i'm nbot sure what level i'll actually be able to take the mutant here and gynok...i'll perhaps do paw at the same time i do testament (no i don't have that eiether)

i'm thinking around 24 i'll be able to do it (new root/dshield/buff) but not sure

i seriously need these 2 items...my wis only 90 at level 20 =D with these 2 i'll have 109 good enough for me
RE: mutant
# Aug 07 2001 at 11:55 AM Rating: Default
ermmm if your druid has only 90 wis... you probably didn't do to great a job at distributing points when you first made your char. When i made my wood elf druid, i started out with 115 wis already. Perhaps you should consider re-making your char.

Or you could not listen to these idiots and not worry about stats so much! Makes the game more interesting to see uncommon class/race combos. I'm a half elf druid myself lvl 24 with 110 wis(base 85) and its really no big deal. Sure I cant nuke a creature down but Root'n'Rot(tm) works just as well, so play what you like! Its not hard to get to 200 wis anyway!
Fungus Mutant
# Jul 17 2001 at 1:43 PM Rating: Good
Ok, here's how to get to the Mutant.
First, get a map of upper guk, one that you can read easily. Study the map carefully so you can get from the entrance to the fungus room without having to look at the map.
The safest way to get to the fungus room is to take the first right in guk that leads to the spider rooms. From here there is only one path to the Fungus Room. Once you get near the fungus room, you can either walk around through the room where the warder spawns or you can jump off the path straight into the fungus room. If you have bad faction with frogloks, you should be able to get into the fungus room at level 30 easily without being attacked, just as long as you don't stop moving. You can also do this a couple of levels lower if the spawns on your path are green.

Holding the spawn.
Staying safely in the room at the level 30 will vary in difficulty depending on your class. Everything will be high green/low blue. Fungus drones will heal anything you are attacking if they are in range. You can hold the room if you carefully clear all the blues out of the room, and letting respawns live if they are green. Once everything is green the fungus ancient will be your only worry. The mutant casts Clockwork poison, which makes you spin around for about 6 seconds, it casts this spell every 6 seconds....Add two and two together, and this thing can stun you for an entire fight. With endure poison I got stunned every four spells (save vs poison was at 27 i think). With resist poison I resist every time(save vs poison at 45) At lvl 34 nothing should aggro you, unless you stand next to it for awhile or sit next to a mob, so this is probably the lowest safe level.

Remember this was written from a cleric's point of view, so some clasess may be able to camp the mutant at lower levels.

More info: I still get xp from the fungus at 34 even though it cons green.
The Mutant spawns every 16 minutes, plus a few seconds(30 i think). You can use a stopwatch for this. If you've camped gynok moltar already this spawn time will be very familiar to you. The mutant has no place holders and spawns in the corner to right of the corner with ladder in the west side of the room.
The mildew is the common drop. It drops about every four kills (1 hour). I haven't see the weed yet and have 4 hours(15kills) of camping time (not consecutive).

Good Luck

I've been thinking about getting this nice item for a while, ever since someone told me that this silver ring I had been wearing was a part of a quest, and not just a nice bobble that an enchanter friend had given me. Now that I'm approaching the lv. to start to attempt to do this quest, I've been reading all the posts, and was wondering something. Is it very hard to get to the fungus mutant? I've never even seen a froglok, so I shouldn't have much trouble (I hope). When you do kill him about 20 times or so, and get the items, don't you take serious faction hits? When I leave, will I be attacked by every froglok in the zone?

Thanks, and have a nice day :)

well I camped this guy for 7 hours last night, got 3 brackets dropped..when I get a message "servors will be down for patch in so and so hours" so I camped this guy all night...just to have the servor come down before I could get the guk week. Already pissed because I camped Narra Tanith in SK for 18 hours just to find that my best friend had managed to kill her the moment she spawned right under my nose. and my dog ran away! oh the torture! ..I need a hug

#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 08 2001 at 2:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You guys take this game way to seriously. I can't even begin to count the number of times I have gone to the forums to look for useful information and found only idiotic bickering. First someone says something that pisses someone off, then, that person attempts to defend themselves by sounding like some kind of parental figure slapping the previous person on the wrist. Then, of course, comes the backing from those who want to look cool and feel as though they are on the correct side of the argument. Well, I'm here to tell you kiddies; NONE OF THIS MATTERS. For god's sake, get a life, if you want to have a strong opinion about something, make it something meaningful, like war, or hunger..aids..anything but a rediculous video game. (stress on that final word GAME) So, to sum up, this is not your real life, these people online with you are not all your friends, and santa clause isnt real.

Please don't ks, if someone is hunting the mutant, wait for your turn cuz it's just being civil. No matter what the SELFISH player or even the GM's think...It's just show respect and being a nice human being. If you can't be a nice player, maybe you shouldn't play the game because when you disrespect the players and the game like that, it dosn't make it fun for anybody else. Please be nice or no one will return the favor.

Yesterday I camped this guy with my enchanter friend. He is around 10-15 min timer no placeholders, but we usually killed the room anyway because we were bored. He seems to me that he drops the mildew one out of 4 times he spawns considering I killed him 20 times and he had the mildew 5 times. The weed dropped finally on the 20th kill. Don't know what happened before me it wasn't camped. Was very happy to get the final 2 rings. The weed was very trying so prepare for at least 3-4 hours for it. Also got real lucky when I bought the platnum ring for (get this) 346pp. Talk about luck. The paw rocks and my wisdom is 197 now. Time to save up for the GEBs. Yeah that will only take me a month of hill giants for them 6K my God. Good luck everyone on this. A lot of patience and the paw will be yours.

Camping Kindness
# Jun 29 2001 at 10:07 PM Rating: Excellent
So what if the GM's say there is no camping in EQ. Because there is no REAL camping in EQ! Basically what "camping" is, is a common kindness shared among players. People created it to be fair, not to anger other people. I mean, if you're camping Gynok or the Mutant for 6 hours, someone dashes in, hits it first, runs out, kills it and crys, "AHAHA! I GOT THE RING/WEED!!" how the heck would you feel? Like you just wasted 6 hours, yes. Really, really, really PO'd! DURH! Of course you would! Thats why "camping" was created. It was to to be kind to people. I think its just a common knowledge that camps are camps and to respect other people. I mean you in real life, how many people run infront of other people waiting in line? You just don't do it! Camping is like the line! Get it?

I can't believe what i just read. How many zones are in this game? There has got to be at least 50+. Now how many of these zones could a person around your lvl hunt? ( Guessing at this one because you never stated your lvl ) You seem to be in your mid to upper 20's. There are more zones in this game than i can count on both hands where you would be able to rake up all the experience your little heart desires. Now...please tell me of any other place and any other spawn that the Degenerated Guk Weed drops from? This item is a SUPER rare drop off the fungus mutant in Upper Guk and is part of a very LONG and BORING quest. If someone has the time and patience to try and do this quest then they dont need a sniveling little punk like you bugging them to let you PLEASE HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE. Go out to South Karanas...go out to Lake of Ill Omen...go out to Lake Rathetear...just go anywhere and leave the freakin druid alone and let him finish his quest. Peace out.

Because there is a fair amount of energy directed to concerns around the attitude of the players in the game these days I felt compelled to throw a quick sentence or two out there. I can go on a run of 6 hrs and party with players who leap in to the group, get what they need and run without a 'goodbye' to find the next gravy train. Then for some reason I run into 5 excellent players who all do great jobs of their characters and some will be roleplaying... the oasis they provide far outweighs anything else I find temporarily frustrating in the game. On balance, it keeps me hooked and now I've hooked a couple of good friends into the game also. Oh btw - it may help that I am in the UK, but I have still never found Dyllin Starshine without a small queue of clerics in front of him :-)

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 29 2001 at 5:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I just left eq, found the fungus mutant. And low and behold, it was of course camped. And when I asked this 35th druid, who I shall allow to rename nameless, how long they might be there, please? 5 Hours!! Something that spawns every 16 minuntes and he wants for 5 hours. Is this right? I wonder. This is my fifth character, and I have never been rude to camp something that spawns so fast for 5 hours. That is rude, greedy and very much inconsiderate, not to mention unfair. I understand the rarity of certain items dropping, but to be a complete fungus HOG, well that just shows you don't know what the true meaning of this game is. When camping something that spawns that quickly it is expected to rotate camp at least once , I would think. Oh, and if you don't, and its something that I need, then be prepared to have it taken. Being a complete spawn HOG is jsut immature children who don't know the way this game is played.

I must say I agree with you. If someone is camping something for a rare spawn then he should camp it till he has it. Lets say the Druid was nice and said sure let group or said ever other one is yours. Then the one thing he needs spawns on your turn. All the sudden you pick it up and run off. He stuck there camping for another so many hours. I'm sorry but if I was the Druid I wouldn't have said 5 hours. I would have said until I get what I want. LOL.
