Don't know any thing about spawning habits never heard of the item till my party ran into the item dureing a gm event in geynos hills. We got it off of Varsoon the undieing though .. we had a lvl 30 cleric, lvl 30 druid, and a 22 monk.. we happened apon him randomly.. killed him and got the GBS and some neck piece for rogues.. it was no drop so monk grabbed it.. But worthless to some or not.. 9 int 10 vs magic is not bad.. course the killing of him ended the gm event.. but got a nice item out of it.. don't care about the pp for it's a nice item to work my trade skills with...

I once caught a few different things on Ranger-Radar the other day while working up Bone Chips and by Tracking skillz (which were hitting 100 or so.)
Off in the yonder of my Ranger-Radar I picked up something heading right toward me, "Mangy Rat." Then I picked up "a Mangy Rat" comming from the direction which the Skeletons and Decayed spawn. Well, I noticed later that the "Mangy Rat" was taking the Varsoon route toward the ruins.. just like Pyzjn is supposed to, yet the other spawn point never comes up with "Mangy Rat," only "a Mangy Rat."

I camped Pyzjn for about 7 EQ days, she spawned once, and did NOT drop a GBS, but dropped necromancer blood and a rusty dagger. And she didn't pop in ruins either, she was making her way down the big hill right across the ravine from ruins (between ruins and path) but you could see her coming from ruins. Waste of time IMO.

hey, when i was level 13 i was with a friend he was level 15 we went to the ruins to go camp her, we stayed there at camp for about 20 minutes and bang! pyzjn!!! she spawned at 1:00 am (game time)
and guess what? she droped the gbs! i think that was like my luckiest day ever in eq

ummmm what ever her name is, she is a random spawm i did kjill her at ruins and got a GBS sold for about 7k was nice when i was a level 50 capmed for 3 days on and off i think to kill her u have to kill that named rat well thats what sumone told me

First of all the named rat doesnt matter, it is a Tovax placeholder.
Was nice back when EQ opened, these things traded for around 80K down to like 2K now.

THIS CAMP sucks OMG does it ever suck do not do it EVER and the people who got one BRAVO you are lucky I had one I bought cheap but doubled my money when sold so I wanted one back I spent almost 24 hours real life straigh saw her 4 times never dropped it OMG it sucks...

Oh and if it helps anyone, she spawned at night, she was green to me, and there was no "special way" to get her to spawn. I think she's random.

Finally, when I was about to camp, she popped and I whooped her with one spell (30 Wiz). I was extremely lucky, she dropped the GBS on my first try! I'm trying to sell it on Prexus if anyone's interested :p

Also i did not follow any pattern to get Pyzjn to spawn. I killed everything there was around the ruins for the fun of it as well as collecting bone chips from the skellies for an alt necro i have, when i decided to hit track n see what was out and about. To my surprise she was on track and comming from across the ruins. Killing her and her pet with ease there was no GBS. oh well.. life goes on as did i n continued to roam Norrath in search of fame and fortune. To those of u obsessed with this item... good luck to you for there are too many other and better things i can do with my time then to camp an item that may or may not show after several hours of waiting.

If that is true about the soap stuff - dumbasses - thats the best way to get it to spawn :)
Plus i'd say its a bit more entertaining then trying the hair-brained ideas

Let's face it, nobody really knows. She's become the classic EverQuest urban legend, where everybody knows the only "correct" method... where half will say she only spawns at night, and half will say they've seen her spawn during the day; half the people who say she's has some horribly complex spawn process, and some who say she spawned 3 times in 4 hours. End result - kill her if you see her, but don't waste 1000 IRL hours of your life camping her, unless you really don't have anything else to do.
Chances are it's simple. She probably has a 0.1% spawn chance for any killed newbie creature in the zone.
Think about it... of the several hundred thousand mobs being created in the early development of EQ, why would a 9-to-5 Verant developer waste half his business day designing a spawn pattern that only God could figure out, for an otherwise relatively unremarkable mob like Pyzjn. Even the original dragons didn't get that much developer attention.
I think she's going to go down in EQ history like who shot JFK... lots of theories and just barely enough random information to support some aspect of them all.

Why get a gbs over let say stein of magokk well stats are always nice but this game is about looking good and anybody can get a stein its so cheap. gbs is harder to get although lot common nowadays. me myself want gbs and grs :)

She popped in the ruins... and it was day therefor she does show herself in the daytime. Besides the GBS she dropped a rusty dagger.

Posted: Dec 18 2001 at 9:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok my best class is humans and i HATE FP so i never start there. so as can be expected i am always in the Qeynos area. well atleast 1 out of ever 5 times i zone into Qhills there is a person shouting about this person on how to camp her and how to get her to spawn. well i have helped atleast 10 different people all had sucses in making her spawn but no GBS (and i got some nice PL out of it to ;)) ok well once i druid got to level 20 i saw i could drop her pretty fast if i kited her. so i had 2 ubber guild mate help me incase Varsoon spawned and i did manage to get the GBS after 2 full days of camping and this is how i did it.

-Don't Kill any Dread skelis. Waste of time,they are useless distractions of Varsoon's placeholder.
-Best idea: Have two computers, one with a melee class char near ruins to kill ruins PH's and catch pyzin if she spawns, and have another (ranger) running around out in the field killin off the skelis and pH's out there, that way your camp is guarded and camped. (either that or get a friend to help, hehe)

The placeholders can ONLY be undead at night, so just monitor track, kill ALL "a skeleton"'s, "a decaying skeleton"'s, and any wandering "a putrid skeletons"'s. She ONLY spawns at night, so kill the suspected placeholder at exactly *one spawn time* before NIght, that way she'll pop at 8pm game time.

Ok i camped this ruin for 21 hours straight and on and off 6 hours everyday. I have tried all methods you all have posted and NO SPAWN. I even petition GM. Answer same as allways " We cant tell you"
Could some one just say it and post the correct way of triggering this spawn or what is the random we keep hearing about. are we talking about one day (24hours) or 1 week. Oh yes and is this game time hours or RL hours.
I do not get why cant people just post the truth. if you dont know then dont post lies.
Oh and BTW i tried the tracking of the PH

I camped this as a mage, for over 150 hours, and NEVER had a tracker KS me. Trackers are spinning in circles while I am headed directly toward her. I had maybe 8 trackers try, 0 succedded. The mana cost on the low level spell is so low, and casting time is short, it is equivalent to track, without the searching in spinning. Sorry bud, but track is not the best thing here. I was able to cast this as soon as the recast came up for maybe RL 3 mins and lost 1/4 of a blue bubble of mana at level 21. Imagine how much a higher mage could do it.. also btw, wizzies get the sense summoned. They dont have a pet to kill everything, so idealy the mage is the ultimate pyzjn farmer.

You found it! Heh, I was looking for that post for a friend. I have personally used that as my bible when camping Pyzjn. I got the GBS in the end too. Not too bad for a level 20 wizzie :).
FYI, she doesn't spawn at the ruins, she can spawn anywhere in the general QH area, ranging from near Surefall to close to BB. She will walk to the ruins, after she has buffed herself and summoned her pet.

I did this before trivial loot went into effect. I don't know much about this new rule so I dont' know if I can still do this.
I've gotten the GBS within short order both times I tried. Maybe it was just luck, I dunno, but I got em. My friend has camper the ***** for literal days total and has yet to get the stone (My second one went to her) anyways what I did was simple. I log on late at night RL so very few people are online. This just helps ensure no one else will be camping her hopefully. My char had tracking (druid) so finding her was no prob. I simply slaughtered all the skeletons. WHen I first tried this She popped in 2 hours. The second time I tried (which was about 6 mo. ago) she popped in only a half hour.
I don't know if I did something special other than that but it worked for me twice, so that's what I'll do from now on. Good luck to you all!

I am kinda wondering if there is possibly a quest that goes along with the GBS... I have heard that people have hailed Varsoon and he will tell them a story about little gnome girl friend. Well i got me a silvery mask which casts unlimited identify and one day, while being extremly bored, I started identifying all my items. When I identified my GBS it showed as being called "Varsoons Black Heart". I have tried to find if there is a quest involved with it or not but have had no luck. And I really dont want to give it to Varsoon just out of curosity since it took awhile to get the dang thing. So if anyone has any ideas or knowledge feel free to post.

This is one of the more interesting aspects of the whole Tovax/Pyzjn/Varsoon storyline that nobody EVER gets to see because somebody always kills one of the three before the cycle can complete itself. It goes like this. Tovax spawns and walks around a bit eventually making his way to the ruins where he drops the note for Pyzjn at the center of the ruins. Tovax MUST be allowed to go off and despawn. This is one of the ways to get Pyzjn to spawn. As soon as Tovax despawns, Pyzjn pops and goes to the ruins to get the note. Varsoon will then spawn and declare his undying love for Pyzjn and attempt to prove it by giving her (wait for it) his black heart. Varsoon then dies and respawns as Varsoon the undying. I don't know what happens after that and I think that Pyzjn rejects Varsoon which is why he gives her his heart. It is really great to watch, if you can find a time when nobody is camping or wanders into the zone and kills one of them. Better than daytime soaps!

Just as a foot note, there are two Opal Darkbriars. One is a Wizard in West Freeport, in the guild. And the other is located somewhere in North Freeport - Necro guild I guess. Not exactly sure, but you can see the messages of her casting spells if you have that chat filter on.

Why get the GBS?? Because you can't have 2 Stein of Moggoks.

+9 INT and +10 SV Magic. She doesnt drop it all the time, and there is no offical way to get her to spawn. It also goes in the secondary slot which is what makes it soooo good. Other items like the Stein of Maggok cannot.
