So far I am 50% on the drop. However, I logged back in to track the camp and am finding no shark has spawned in about 4 hours. Is there a PH? I am under the impression it was simply a timed spawn of 1 hour 40 minutes.

Edit: found it hiding in the far south eastern part of the zone.

The spawn rate on this (confirmed today on Phinigel) is 1 hour 40 minutes. It is not 2 hours.

So far I've killed 3 plague sharks and gotten 1 rotten shark meat.

This was Valkur's experience in 2001:

Valkur wrote:
I had a very similar drop rate.

First four kills dropped nothing.
Fifth kill dropped meat.
Sixth kill dropped nothing.
Seventh kill dropped meat.

So that was 2 out of 7 kills.

There is some question (due to other posts here) if this is progression restricted in some way on TLP... people playing on the Fippy/Vulak round had issues getting it as well, and didn't post if they ever did.

I camped this mob for a few hour and would like to update on the information. First of all, it no longer appear with Seaking. I tried to see it at water level and never see it despite I have been waiting for 6 ships. I used my druid to track it and found it consistently at around n2150 p850. I have killed 4 of them and all found at this position. However, if you tried to track it without diving deep enough, you are bound to fail. I have to swim down to around n150 deep before I can see it. The mob is around 33 to 35 level instead of level 36 to 38 as stated. It is blue to my level 34 druid at one time, but yellow to my 33 druid at the other time. My level 42 paladin can take it down without using layhand, but having endure breath during will definitely help a lot.

Rotten Shark Meat

Killed it 5 times got 2 peices with my lv40 pally. it always spawn close to the docks so check out all the sharks in the area expecially 1's that look like they have no pattern and i never ran into any sharks that where higher that g2me, exept plague b2me. did a full buffing and endure desiese or magic maybe both helped out on the plagues spells, i resisted most of them. didn't have enduring breath you don't need it just come up for air just remember to get the 2 hour spawn time down and if u can't find him on 2 trips in some1 else has the cycle down so go back the next day. over all no real problems killing it. Also it really helps to have a high swimming skill mine started there at 110 ended around 140

Loot?
# Nov 30 2001 at 10:36 AM Rating: Decent
I have killed this bugger 5 times and i have yet to get any loot what so ever from him. I am level 42 Paladin so its not to tough of a fight, but the two hour spawn time gets frustraiting since I am basically stuck on this island. I was curious if anyone else had this problem of not getting anything from him. I mean with six possible loot items you can get from this mob and not getting one item in 5 consecutive kills makes me wonder if he even drops anything anymore? I imagine that the some of the items are more rare then others i.e. rotten shark meat, doll, since they are quest related, but not getting any skin or teeth from him gets rather discouraging to a pally that needs only two shark meats to complete his Ro armor quest :+( any iformation on the loot would be great, thanks
The quest

Just finished the vambraces of Ro quest last night. It took me 9 sharks to get both pieces of the meat. Bring a ranger friend and expect it to take a few days at least.
The shark itself isn't that rough (at least not at level 40) but finding it is difficult.
Shark DD...

Hello All,
Shrubs McHedge here. A Paladin buddy of mine and I just completed killing three Plague sharks. It took us about 6 hours total. They seem to spawn about once every two hours, one at a time. The first one dropped the Rotten Shark Meat, the second dropped nothing and the third dropped the meat again. THe thing is tough and can take aaway all your buffs with a cancel magic. My Paladin friend was 36 and I am 23 Druid. I just healed and buffed and he did all the damage.
BOTTOM LINE on this..... Dont even think about trying this without a ranger or Druid to track. The shark has a long spawn rate and when he does, it is way out in the middle of the ocean with other KILLER SHARKS that are just as tought if not tougher. Hope this helps.

Ok, for all of you who talk about how hard this shark is, they have either changed it or I got lucky.

I just killed the shark with a 41 Druid friend. We buffed before, STR, SOW, Symbol, Skin Like Diamond, Endure Magic, Endure Poison, Enduring Breath, etc.

Root, snare, dot, melee.

I only went down two bubbles of health and the Druid used less than 50% mana.

Got on Rotten Shark Meat. Waiting on spawn as we speak.

Plague Shark do-able

I have been getting the complete set of Ro Armour over time. So far the hardest one is the Vambraces! The shark will be easy to find if you follow this trick, of course if you have a tracker then this is moot. Get to Erud's crossing and get off on the island. The approx /loc is -1800,+700 right next to the dock where the cat is standing.

Get right up to the water line and go into crouch mode. Then slowly wade into the water until your eyes are just even with the water line. I don't know why but crouching makes it easier. While you're facing the water the dock should be on your left and you will be at the end of the little peninsula. When you get to the point where your eyes are even with the waterline you will be able to see under the water like it was daylight. At that point you should see a few sharks swimming ahead. One of them is the plague shark. Now that you can see him good luck killing him. I couldn't do it alone at level 35 and I am pretty twinked. He hits around 70ish and has a DD spell that hits for 180! He will also debuff you and he has an astronomical rengen rate.

You also don't want to pull him in to close to land as he will get stuck and then you can't hit him even if he's targeted. I had no problem killing him with some guildmates (lvl 57 Bard and Wizard) got rotten shark meat on first kill. He is supposed to be on a 2 hour spawn so we left, I plant to go back and kill him again tonite.

Can't wait to get these arms to replace my FP Vambraces, I need the Widsom and 1 extra AC is nice too.

Good luck to you!
Looting the Plague Shark

After much grief last night, my friends and I finally found the plague shark. One of my friends did the tanking while I waited safely near shore for him to take the shark out, then my druid friend led me out to the area. Friend #1 killed it before we got there. We weren't sure whether the rotted meat was nodrop so he didn't loot the corpse right away.

BAD IDEA! The corpse decays in less than a minute! So if you are going after this guy make sure you loot it darn quick!

Changes to Plague/Killer
# Jun 29 2001 at 8:22 PM Rating: Default
They've changed the DD on the Killer and Plague sharks, whatever it is it does 180 damage per pop, both from the Killer and Plague sharks.

One other thing, if you can levitate do it, you can then pull it close to shore and fight it while levitating without having to worry about wading out to it.
Not spawing near boats anymore....

Standing at appx. -1780, +1290 and swiming straigh out into the ocean, you can see the plague shark at the botom. The shark spawns at appx. -2300, +1300 at the bottom every 2hrs. There are killer sharks just to left of it if you swim too far off :) Can use the surface swimming *bug* to see underwater, going up and then looking down. Cant see the shark from the water near shore have to swim up to the *deep water ledge* to see see him. Easy pull and kill for 51 pally :)
Heh these guys are tough

Once you learn a few things about these sharks this becomes a simple camp. Here are the facts:

1) Spawns under the boat SeaKing when it zones in from Qeynos which occurs every 20 minutes. When killed the shark will take 2 hours to respawn. But if not killed it will continue to ride with SeaKing. Ignore ALL other sharks you see on in the water. I spent a lot of time swimming out to them hoping it would be a Plague but they never are. This is THE ONLY time I got attacked by a Killer Shark. The Killer Sharks are not a problem at all on this camp if done as I describe.

2) If you wait a few steps towards the dock from Tolo, the SeaKing will head straight at you when it zones in. Swim out to it a bit (not too far, contrary to what others have said) and pull the Shark out from under the boat to get it off the path of the boat.

3) Melee while completely under the water, not too close to shore. It can get stuck on the beach at times which is a pain. It is then considered above the water, so you have to nuke it from land or hope that you can wade out to it (move slowly with auto-attack on) and still be able to hit it. It will cast 2 spells on you, Cancel Magic, and some DD or LT of some kind. I took him down without much trouble with a 37 Pally and a 38 ShadowKnight.

4) In 6 kills of this shark I got my 2 Rotten Shark Meats, which has the graphic of a shark's fin. It is droppable.

The way to make this camp a pleasurable island getaway, rather than an excercise in frustration is to log the time of the Shark dying. Heal up, buff up and then camp near Tolo, and go about your life for 2 hours. Play another character or go get reacquainted with your wife. Log back in and the next time SeaKing enters the zone you get another shark.
Very Close, Skellt
# Apr 09 2001 at 7:35 PM Rating: Default
Skellt certainly has much of this correct. I will add a couple points to it.

The DD the shark casts comes in at about 75 points a pop. 2 or 3 of these and your HP will sink really quick. I am not sure if it works out to a lifetap since I was watching my HP more than the shark's. It doesn't seem to matter since the shark regen's about 25hp per tick when not fighting. I have yet to test this out, but the DD is more than likely disease related so pump up that DR before wandering in. A DR buff surely wouldn't hurt.

It definitely conned blue to me back when I was level 34, but also later conned even to me when I was 35, so there is a range of difficulty here.

Rooting this guy is a very wise move.

Blue to a 37 pally, he took me to 2 bubbles of health in a matter of seconds. I am pretty good with my sword and shield and I know how to stun to break the attack sequences of mobs. Despite this, I could barely hack away 1 bubble of health from him before being forced to back off. And he was blue to me.

This mob has all the ear-markings of a level 40 monster that caused Verant to say, "oops" and lowered the level without taking away any abilities. This guy looks to be a task specifically designed to prevent any pally from soloing below level 39, when they get Endure Disease, Daring, Symbol of Ryltan, and Yaulp II.

If the shark's bite does do a cancel magic, then Verant better change the drop rate on the meat to 100% AND make it drop 2 at a time.

This quest is absurdly hard for the reward.
Not so tough
# Jan 06 2001 at 6:52 PM Rating: Decent
I was able to take one down at 34 no problem. Just fight near the shore, walk in the water, cast, and walk back out.
Rare spawn?

Rare spawn, eh? One of these bad fishies just happened to be there when one of my chars fell off of a boat.
