The different "rosch" gnolls are always pure caster classes, i.e., necro (rarely), wizard, magician, enchanter. Beware that enchanters can charm.

Was playing around outside the lair today and met several of these guys.

My favorite was the necro version (yes, they do exist). Why? Because I too am a necro and getting the chance to go one-on-one against another necro was great!
He /conned white (even) to me at 35, and had a decent array of spells ready. I started by fearing his pet (yup, he had one) and then sicked my pet on him. While bonehead kept him bust I unloaded my full set of DOT's on him: Engulfing Darkness (DOT & slow)
Venom of the Snake (DOT)
Vampiric Embrace (DOT leach)
Boiling Blood (DOT)
Heart Flutter (DOT &lowers attack/ac/etc)
Poison Cloud
Topped off with the 34 fear ("Instill Fear"?)
Even with all that on him I still need to keep on the move and hit with a DD Tap every so often to finish him.
One thing, he will make several attempts to Root his target.

Yea. The mage is pretty nasty because 1) he nukes, and 2 his pet gets really annoying, even after he is dead. had group members vs group memebers because of the chanter, evry annoying.
