After several days of searching for Marik, I accidentally ran across him swimming ashore at +2312, -3486 north of the treants on the northeast border of the zone. It was 10 AM game time. I wish I knew what path he'd taken to get there.
PH spawn in the SE part of the map (south of wizard spire, east or even with Splitpaw) on the same timer as a lot of named 60-70s. It took me 69PH to get him to spawn.
PH were as follows, number of spawns in brackets: 1. a splitpaw gnoll [18] 2. a lion [7] 3. centaur (random, any) [8] 4. a shadow wolf [5] 5. an adult elephant [10] 6. a lioness [13] 7. mist wolf [1] 8. aviak (random, any) [7] 9. cyclops [1]
This appears accurate except it is not "an adult elephant" but actually "an elephant"... I got Marik after ~35 PHs (that I wrote down). The most common was the escaped gnoll. Out of all those PHs, I got 3 "an elephant" and zero "an adult elephant"... I suppose it's possible that it's variance and both can be on the cycle.
The area was a slender rectangle with bounds near splitpaw, a little bit north of the aviak fort, and then all the way east to the zone wall. It might have extended slightly north of splitpaw, but certainly not south of the hermit hut in the SE.
1:18 sec respawn time for his PH i believe, like quillmane. so another rare in the line of those spawns. he popped eventually so i knew i had wrong PH line going.
once he pops, you know you have the wrong ph line going so leave him up and try to find another 1m 18s ph line that spawns south of paw.
Marik doesn't seem to live long - I saw him on Tracking and got there just in time to see a Tisch Mas Gnoll finish him off. He was wielding the spiked club.
Had him spawn just north of Split Paw while my monkey was killing dawgs, got so excited to see a rare spawn while not playing my ranger.. smacked him good, got the silly 1HB sold it to a merchant for a couple plat. Also saw Groi Gutblade (correct name) near the same spot, didn't see him spawn there though, got his ring of gather shadows =)
This guy spawned twice in an hour for me. I was hunting in SK, kiting Tesch Mas Gnolls. I ended up kiting one pretty far North of the SP Lair, and noticed Marik walking. Speeding up the death of the gnoll, I jumped him. He was walking North from the gnoll lair, towards just West of the bridge. He hadn't gotten near or as far North as the undead outpost where Grimrot spawns. Killed him.
Continued hunting while constantly checking Track for any unusual spawns, and about an hour later, he's up again. So I track him, and find him in almost the same spot, walking the same path. So, I feel sorry for the guy having to walk aimlessly, and kill him again.
Both times he dropped the Beartooth Necklace and some minor coin. I sold the necklace to one of the Meadowgreens.
Side note: I was also killing any Escaped Splitpaw Gnolls I got on track near me. There was a player in the zone waiting for Quillmane and I figured I'd try to help out. Since killing Escaped Splitpaw Gnolls is about as difficult as kicking a Fire Beetle to death in the 30s, I was killing them fairly regulary between TM gnolls. Don't know if that had anything to do with Marik spawning so close together.
Killed him today. He conned light blue at 25. Kited him around a bit but he went down pretty fast. Dropped the Beartooth Necklace +3sta +10hp. Conned indiff. No faction hits.
I was camping the hermit on my ranger for the FS items to take fletching up from 188..not fun..when on track he spawned right behind the house, killed him got the necklace, not bad for a light blue con, after going to kill the hermit again i had a high shammy on track which was yellow, kill in easy got the head for a monk who wanted it. Other it was my lucky day or those two spawn towards the aviaks or hermit. If anyone wants to back this up itd be nice, help someone find their quest npcs or loot.
Had just stood up from medding and took a look around me to get my bearings. Saw this NPC walk by, so I /con him. Very nice dark blue to me so instantly that man gets rooted and feels the wrath of the elements and I wind and lightning him. After that was over with, I looted him and he had some gold and the beartooth necklace which was better than the one I had on. Now, that I look at what else he has, kinda wished I had got the club as well...oh well, cannot win them all...anyhoo, he was really easy to kill so no worries there!! :)
After parsing my logs for my 28 warrior I found this about Marik: Damage Received: 33 Max Damage: 19 Average Damage: 8 Times Hit You: 4 Times Missed: 6 Odds Hit You: 40.00%
Nothing substantial as you can see but at least this proves that he does try and fight back.
Killed him near the Spires outside Paw last night... he just wandered up to the spires, turned around and walked back again. Camping spire 3 with my 27 warrior at the time so I wasn't in the mood to follow him to see what he does. Can you say EASY MEAT... didn't notice him try to hit back either... he went down a bit too quick. Dropped the Beartooth Necklace and an Ivory. No faction hits at all.
Yes, he's out there. He probably wanders though -- I saw him once way up north in the zone, and again all the way down by the aviaks. His drops are minor at best, and he definitely has 500 HPs or less
He isn't tied to a faction that I know of, and I'm a Barbarian. Perhaps unseen hands but i doubt it. Killed him at 16, rooted and poisoned. Rinse and repeat until dry.
Started asking in OOC who he was while I followed him as he looped the bird city in a half crcle and headed toward the Lake rath zone..
I would say he was walking east to west almost level with the bird city and then circled the northern side to break southwest toward the zone corner. Hope this helps.
hi im 40 druid on druzzil ro anyway i have killed this guy o 9 times i would think when i get bored i run through sk looking on tracking i allways find something anyway 8 of the times i got some crappy necklace last time i got the club its decent i guess heh =) guy has less than 500hp
No way this guy is 18-20. 2 Combusts and about 3 clicks on a Creeping Crud and he went right down. Maybe 450 HPs tops...sounds more like 15th level to me.
