hunter achievement
# Feb 18 2023 at 2:15 AM Rating: Decent
before we had all these achievements i would constantly get attacked by it while camping the 3 bandits near the pixies. so i decided to set up shop and wait. amazingly, it still works. i stood on the hill and just spammed the dervs and anything within spell range. took maybe 30 minutes

His placeholders spawn across the upper 2/3rds of the zone and include:
a mist wolf
a wasp soldier
a skeleton
a giant spider
a mummy
orc centurion
a wasp sentinel

Respawn time is 2m 26s.
This may not be a complete list. I killed around 40 PHes and the most common one seemed to be "a skeleton".

Following his cycle I was able to spawn him 5 times in about 2 hours. (During bonus rare spawn.)
After spawning, he likes to travel back and forth across the upper part of the zone before eventually making it to the lower part where he'll roam into the ranger camp and is killed by the NPCs.

After killing all the wasps I could find, I seen him spawn. He was sitting and not roaming at this spot. No where near the dot on my map. Loc was 437, -1042. Hope this helps.

4th day in Lfay to complete hunter achievement. I have a Ranger 300 tracking skill so I can see all zone from one edge to the other .. I tried different methods. Eliminating all wasps in the zone at first. I can confirm at some point you get no more wasp on track, even after 5 mins waiting I got no respawn, so you really need to kill pretty much anything wandering. I got 4 Queen, 2 Whimsy, 2 Mina and 1 Old butterfly so far. I tried the trick to go kill a sister to get the named just before but NPC kill so much mob I could not keep on killing and ended up everytime with too many mobs to figure out what was the PH again, I tried that technique 3-4 times and started to give up and just mass killing everything in the zone. Something wierd I also got is Whimsy and Mina on track at the same time, I have a screen shot of it ... seems they share different PH. Well, patience and perseverance, I think this is the only way to get it done .. and some luck! Well good luck on it everyone and let me know if you find any clue how to spawn them easily!

Edit: 30 minutes after I wrote this post I got him to spawn. I was reeding an other thread saying that there is 5 spawn points on the south wall of the zone. I started following the edge of the zone from the SE corner to MM entrance killing everything wandering on sight. I did 3 - 4 times the run and POOF! Crookstinger. First spawn I've seen in about 20+ hours spent in the zone. I don't know if it was pure luck but I hope it will help someone else.

Spawned twice in under 10 mins last night. First time I've ever seen this mob on track in the 6 years I've played. Got Crookstinger dagger the first time and the poison the second time. I was hunting brownies and orcs at the time, I didn't kill any named mobs. Luclin server.

I camped Crookstinger off and on for the better part of a year, and I think I did discover a reasonably reliable means of spawning him (and the other named mobs on his spawn cycle in Lesser Faydark). The 5 named mobs that I believe are in his cycle are: Mina Glimmerwing, Old Dimshimmer, Whimsy Larktwitter, Queen Nasheeji, and Crookstinger. There are a few named brownies (Thistle Underbrush, Bracken Underbrush, and Ivie Bramblefoot), a named unicorn (Equestrielle the Corrupted), and a named faerie (Princess Joleena) that pops in the faerie village, but I do not think any of these are on the same spawn cycle as the 5 named on the cycle with Crookstinger.

I used a level 52 Ranger, with 200 Tracking skill. It has been stated elsewhere that the range on your tracking skill is found by multiplying your tracking skill by 17. I have confirmed this using my own data. With that in mind, you should be able to track the entire zone at that skill if you stand in the center area of the zone. I don't know how one would be able to accomplish this without a good tracker, so I'm assuming that you have one.

Zone into Lesser Faydark and track. If one of the 5 main named mobs I listed are up, then you are ahead of the game. If none of the 5 named mobs are up, just start killing any roaming mob that you find until one of them pops. This may take a while. Once one of the 5 named mobs on the cycle pops, don't rush immediately to kill it.

Go to the Nybright camp near the Mistmoore zone line and kill one of the Nybright sisters, and remember which one you killed. They have about a 6-8 min spawn timer. Set your track type to "Normal" and wait for the Nybright sister to repop. Once she repops, kill the named mob on the cycle. Killing the Nybright sister gives you a reference point, and as long as you keep your tracking set to "Normal", anything that appears above the Nybright sister on the tracking list has repopped after she was killed. Therefore, you can keep track of the trash that pops in place of the named mobs more easily.

Once you've done this, basically kill anything that shows up above the repopped Nybright sister until another named mob pops. This technique works best when you have the zone all to yourself. Keep in mind that the rangers at the ranger outpost will also kill some of the roaming trash, so over time there may be quite a few trash mobs above the repopped Nybright sister. If this happens, you can always repeat the steps of killing a Nybright sister and the killing the named mob to help "reset" your list.

Also, you don't *have* to use a Nybright sister for your reference. You could always kill one of the rangers at the outpost but that might present faction issues.

Hope this helps someone in their quest. I ended up getting my Crookstinger dagger on the 9th kill. For those that may wonder why I bothered with such a relatively weak dagger, I'm in a nostalgia guild and for me, the hunt for Crookstinger and his Crookstinger dagger, and Lesser Faydark in general, is tied to many fond memories of playing EQ back in the day.
Hard Spawn. Still no luck.
# Jan 17 2006 at 8:09 AM Rating: Decent
Really hard spawn. I've spent between 1-5 hours per night for 14 days now. No sign of him. Using the ranger at L34 with Tracking 175. (175 * 17 = 2975, so standing in the center of the zone, I can easily see into all 4 corners and see ever mob in the zone.)

I've killed ever wasp, spider, skelly, mummy, orc in the zone, as fast as I can track and get to them. I've easily wiped all wasps in the zone a dozen times. Nothing . . .

I haven't been killing anything else, since most other things have faction hits. (Well the orc's do too, but I didn't care about them.) So I'm assuming something else needs to die to cause the spawn.

I would note . . . whenever I track to a wasp . . . a Fae Drake is 99% of the time flying near the wasp.

I've killed the series of rare/oddities (like the spider queen, forget her name) and Mina Glimmerwing, and the 1-2 lone Mist Wolf's (since they seem out of place in the zone). All the spiders in the zone are Giant's except for 2, the spiderling's that spawn inside the brownie fort. I've killed them too many times.

About the only things I can't kill are the red brownies and Equestrelle the Corrupt.

Don't know. Guess I'll start killing Fae Drakes and hope the faction hit isn't a mistake later on. . . for now this clearly isn't enough to trigger the spawn.

Losing hope . . . someone throw us a clue . . .

[01/17/2006] update: Ok day (what it it now, 16?) and he finally spawned. I was at 760,960 (basically dead center of main zone) practicing sneak/hide/conj. And "pop" there he was. Popped VERY close to me (so close to dead center of the zone.) Killed him easy with 34 Ranger but . . . only poison and stalk, no dagger. . . so the search continues . . .

I believe I can confirm . . . once you've killed all the wasps as fast as a ranger can track/sow to them. The zone will fill with other trash mobs (spiders/roaming skellys/roaming orcs/. . .) and no more wasps will spawn when its "full". So kill the trash to get more wasps to spawn.

Either . . . Crookstinger is just a random spawn of the wasp group.

Or. . . he's one of several roaming named (like the spider Queen or Mina Glimmerwing.) Don't think Crook is related to Thistle Underbrush, as he seems to spawn to frequently.

More later if I figure out a pattern for sure.

Tnx

Angrick/Heleria/Legilie/Baylok of Povar

(Followup message. Got one after about 18 days. It is nice for the Rogue, Serrated Bone Dirk and This to slow/him, then switch to dmg dealer pair of piercers. Nothing conclusive on spawning him. But I'm relatively sure if you kill all wasps, you reach a point when zone fills with other mobs. And no more wasps can spawn. So start killing spiders and random low stuff to give them room. No other suggestions. . . good luck.)

Poison
# May 25 2001 at 1:54 PM Rating: Default
The poison that he drops is for rogues only (have to have apply poison skill). It is a small mana drain useful for PvP purposes only as far as I can tell. When you apply the poison, it is applied to your primary melee spot (not the weapon itself).

Well, I was playing around in LFay the other day, waiting for some friends, when I tracked this guy. I popped on camo and hunted him down. As soon as I dropped Camo, he attacked me (or tried to, at least), although I am lvl 31, so it looks like he aggroes on everyone, regardless of level. From what I've heard, he spawns when enough wasps get killed in LFay, so if you are hunting him, kill every wasp you see. He wanders the zone, but I've never seen or tracked him farther west than the Rangers camp or so, but that could just be chance. Anyways, hope that helps.
Give me a tell i will buy!!!

Plz Plz give me a tell if you have the dagger. I would love it for my rogue duel weilding it with a dragoon dagger. So if you have on and want to sell it i would happily buy it.

Just send a tell to Sneakizfeetz.

half of these post dont help me to find him at all.......If anyone has this dagger and/or the poision on the Rallos Zek server send Shadovved a tell (that's me) i want this stuff - if it sucks or not - I was also wondering if you must be a lvl20 rouge to apply the poision (i guessing yes) and how do you apply it?? right click? then what, does it go automatically to the weapon you have in your hand? Anyway...i will trade or buy these items if any y'all got em! Or, if you have them, post something here(as if ill ever come back) and i might buy them to use one a new chara on whatever server you're on
What does poison do?
# Feb 01 2001 at 6:38 PM Rating: Decent
I was hunting Thistle Underbrush to get Braided Ivy Cords the other week. (I got cords!)

Anyway Crookstinger came on track so I nuked him dead and he dropped the poison.

What does Feeblemind I do?

I am guessing it would make the target stupid (really low int/wis) and therefore might be useful against casters?

However since NPC casters have infinite mana - not sure how much lowering int/wis will help.

Am saving it as a nasty surprise for my monk to spring on a caster in a PVP arena duel :)

NPCs do NOT have infinite mana. What is the purpose of Mana Sieve, Curse of the Simple Mind, and Theft of Thought? NPCs start to melee when they cant cast anymore.

It lowers mana. Use EqCaster to find out the exact digits for the mana drop.
the poison potions he drops

I see that he drops poison pots, i am a rogue and i am interested in getting them, but is there an easier way to get these pots besides killing him or making them?

I was attacked by this guy as I was leaving the WoodElf Ranger-station. He was a pretty easy kill for my level-10 ranger. I got Crookstinger venom off of him. A merchant in Kelethin offerd me a Platinum or two for it, but I haven't sold it just yet.

Is the venom useful for any quests, or should I just sell or use it?
Crookstinger PH?
# Sep 07 2000 at 11:39 AM Rating: Default
Can anyone tell me how to get this guy to spawn? I have spent many hours in L Fay and have never seen him or had anyone pick him up on tracking. I have killed enough wasps to bring out 2 full stacks of royal jelly one night while trying to find him. I hear the pixies are PH's at the fairie tower, I have no idea if this is true. I do know they are PH's for the Brownie outcast and he is a little too large for me. If pixies are the PH, any ideas on getting Crookstinger and not the Brownie?

Any help getting this guy would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well I ran into thios little fellow walking through LFay. Killing Wasps sentinals it not what attracts him--he hates everybody. He attacked me, a 14 lvl paladin. Stupid bee.

I've run into him 3 times now: Right by the Nybright Sister camp, once by the first set of crossroads, and once by the second Bandit camp (with the Dervish Cutthroats.) Twice I've gotten the poison and various wasp parts, and once I've gotten the Crookstinger Dagger, so the Dagger must bee a rare drop on this thing... ~_~; He seems to have no usual spawn point, he just flies around and is easily noticable due to his size compared to other wasps...

I hunt giant spiders in northeastern Lesser Faydark, (for their silk), but they can be pretty tough for me, a level 8 enchanter. I had just engaged one when Crookstinger attacked me. Outnumbered, I ran back to Steamfont Mtns. I had been killing Wasp Sentinals as well, (for royal jelly, in order to make honey mead), and I assume that's why I was attacked. I've only seen Crookstinger the once, though.

Just killed CrookStinger. It was a huge wasp. He was flying behind the tower where the brownie outcasts are. Loot was Giant Wasp Leg and Crookstinger Poision (one charge of Feeble Mind I). Can't confirm what level it was, was green to me and I'm way above this zone (here for brownie parts).
