Just finished this up. As others have mentioned the fact that mobs kill each, and roam all over makes this annoying. I did have Karg and Martan up at the same time. Placeholders do pop at the 9 second mark for both cycles. Can say for me nothing spawned West of Megan's tower, or below the bottom of the V. Did have a PH spawn almost at the giant's fort, so they do go East a good ways.

As Jessiecuh said, there isn't a unique to any cycle. I saw the full list they posted on Karg's cycle. I never saw ice goblins on Martan's but I wasn't killing his after he popped, and he always showed up crazy fast for me (literally never more than 4 ph).

Good luck to anyone else that does this. The changes made to aggro to stop bards and shadow knights made these things harder than it used to be. I remember doing Quillmane and the monk guy by rounding up everything in the south end of the zone on my wizard and ae blasting it down. Then looking for the correct timed respawn. Was so much easier than trying to find it one by one.

The hard part about this area and tracking is EVERYTHING kills everything else. I had my Monk grab the aggro and hold all the aggressive mobs in the area to prevent them from killing one another. Then I started picking off potential PHs 1 at a time and watching respawn timers and what type of mob would respawn. I think that "a large wooly spider" is unique to Karg's PH. Either way, if you get Martar Icebear up leave him up and keep picking off potential PHs and it will help. This is kind of a frustrating camp.

Karg spawned at and was highsunned too 2096 -4553 spawn time ~7 minutes, ph so far: orcish mountaineer, wooly mammoth calf, wooly mammoth. I spent hours highsunning/killing stuff and never got anything to spawn at other loc mentioned (which would be the case if I kept missing the ph also).

for anyone doing this i spent over a week trying, finally got lucky zoned with him up and tracked ph's for 6 karg spawns in about 2 hours.
can confirm the area between megans tower to ice giant and just below ldon camp and upwards is the physical PH spawn spots.so draw a rectangle from megans, below ldon camp, to north ldon entrance and ice giant fort. thats your area.
most were central V and east to ice giant. as far as where they will path i dont know but that rectangular area is the spawn locations. never saw any in the west begin to path further west and south. so for clearing to find the pH i wouldnt waste my time there. a few post here on alla thought a large wooly is unique to karg, it is not but the list is accurate as far as the full PH variety.
9 seconds, set a timer as i tended to count at various rates do to anger and boredom at times, if u track outside that rectangle when your on the PH cycle you got the wrong one look for the closest to that spawn time of the correct ph list and try.
a large wooly spider
a polar bear
a polar bear cub
a snow leopard
a snow orc trooper
a wooly mammoth calf
an ice goblin scout
an orcish mountaineer
ice goblin whelp
This was pretty painful!

I killed all around the LDoN camp to Permafrost down south and back up and to the west portion of the river near the tower. It was hard to keep up with all the spawns that drop this I had a note with about 9 different things they said can spawn him and I think about 95% of what I killed were the ones on the list. I tried to do the track to things and kill it, but it seemed like I killed faster just running around in a big circle. I got him to spawn twice in about 3 hours and on the 2nd kill he dropped the rogue piece. I was doing this for about an hour on my druid because he was porting the rogue around doing the epic quest chain, but it was way better doing it on my ranger with the range on the bow. Both times he spawned to the east of the LDoN camp, once on the ice and once a little east passed the ice.

I can't seem to delete the earlier post..so let me just say I as wrong about Martar spawning only at night. The reason I thought that was because his PH , a polar bear, appeared to despawn while I was tracking. But it didn't -- the polar bears and cubs are agro to the snow orcs, so if you don't get to them quickly you lose your PH kill to the orc and have to start hunting for the PH again.
Got 3 zweihanders today on Agnarr, this is what I did.

Following 'scuba's suggestions I eventually repeatedly spawned Martar Icebear. It became clear to me after killing him a dozen or more times that he's a separate spawn. I knew what his PH was because it spawned about 9 seconds after I killed him each time, so I left him up (which means he won't have a PH up), and started killing older mobs on the list of possible PHs until I started getting about 9 sec respawns. The zone was empty so I controlled the kills. If I killed something and a new thing didn't pop 9 secs later, I knew I had NOT yet killed the PH.

Eventually I found the PH. Took a dozen or more PH kills, about 1 every 15 secs, until I got my first Karg. He had 1 zweihander. I killed more PHs and eventually got 3 zweihanders (he drooped 2 in one kill once) before calling it a day. This finding the PH strategy is very much like the one used in the Karaans for Brother so and so for the monk epic. Once you find the PH you're good to go, kills every 15 seconds or so if you are able to take take down Karg fast (I used a 61 ranger.)

A couple notes:

- all the PHs appear to spawn within a few hundred meters to the east and west of the wayfarer camp. There's a series of spawn points where PHs or Karg will appear at. If you end up tracking whelps or baby bears over by the maze to Halas, those aren't involved IMHO. Ther'es a PH on a mountain top south, that spawns welps and other things, but those may be for Martar not Karg.

- the key is to get Martar up first, so you're no longer chasing two different chains of PHs

- mobs that appear to be PHs for Karg, when they spawn in the above mentioned area are as noted in Zliz post above.

- earlier I posted that Martar spawns may only be at night. I was wrong. He can spawn any time you kill his PH. The reason I thought his PH (polar bear) despawned at dawn is that the orcs will attack the polar bears and their cubs. I suspect that if that happens, you don't get the credit for killing the PH, so you'll have to restart searching for the new PH. The cubs die in seconds to the orcs which is annoying.

Rogue Epic changes:
- Eldreth will now return after leaving for 1 hour rather than 8. He can no longer be killed by miscreants.
- Founy Jestands and Tani N'Mar will no longer have any parchment on their corpses if killed. They will, however, always have them in their pockets if someone happens to be clever enough to take them.
- Renux Herkanor will no longer carry a Jagged Diamond Dagger.
- General V'ghera will no longer carry a Cazic Quill.
- Karg IceBear will be a bit easier to find and will be carrying the Gigantic Zweihander more often.

Spawning Karg

Hello Everyone,

I just did this camp for my rogue (why I'm doing the side quests for the 1.0 epic, idk, but once you get one sword you might as well keep going, right?). I did see a polar cub on Martar's spawn cycle, and I do think (but am not 100% sure) that "a large wooly spider" is unique to Karg's cycle. I do not recommend doing this camp without a tracker. You can kill random spawns in the area between Megan's tower and the ice giant fort (at the split in the river and north of it), but it will be easier to do this (which is the same as Scuba prescribes): Kill a bunch of mobs in that area until you get a polar bear, polar bear cub, a large wooly spider, or either ice goblin whelp (without the an) or an ice goblin scout. Once you get one of those mobs, wait about 20 seconds, as Scuba's post prescribes, so you don't get confused after you kill one of those mobs on what is respawning. The respawn time is around 8 seconds give or take. I left my tracker's filter on normal because that seems to order them by spawn time. My tracker's skill was 200.

I hated doing this camp lol, but it is intriguing the way it is done, and that kept me coming back. I had to spawn Karg 4 times before he dropped the gigantic Zweihander, so it was about 2-3 days of about 6 hours a day. But, it could always be sooner. Again, I don't recommend doing this camp without a tracker; I tried for the first day, and I actually did get him to spawn, but once I got the tracker, the spawn rate went up. Good luck and good hunting.

This is a duplicate post and since Zam doesn't like those, I will alter the first line of the post slightly from the one under the Fabled Karg.

Since Marter and Karg Icebear are so interrelated, I will be posting this under both of their names on Zam

Marter Icebear and Karg Icebear are relatively easy to spawn but a good tracker is required. These two are not on the same spawn cycle, though both of their cycles do include the same mobs.

The starting area is between the Wayfarers Camp and the west branch of the river above the split. slaughter any roaming mobs in that general vicinity. Mobs not included in the cycle are adult mammoths. What you are trying to spawn are polar bears, polar bear cubs and any of the Icy Goblins. These can spawn in any of about 20+ spawn sites. Generally, they will spawn between the ice giant fort and Megan's Tower, from almost to the north LDoN entrance to the lower LDoN entrance. The PH for these two re-spawns in 12 seconds +/- 3 seconds. Once you have a PH on tracking, stop the slaughter and wait about 20 seconds to make sure the slaughter re-spawns are done. Kill the PH and watch for what spawns about 12 seconds later. The re-spawns will include spiders, orcs and mammoth calves. Keep track of any other mobs that spawn at the same time, Tundra Jack and Iceberg will be killing at the same time. Almost every mob in that area of the zone re-spawn on the same time frame. Keep killing the re-spawns until you get either Marter or Karg. If you are after Marter and Karg is up, leave him up and repeat the killing of PHs until you get the Icy Goblin or the polar bears. These will become your new killing cycle.

Notes of interest:
1. I have had Marter spawn 12 times in a row then again not for over 25 kills of the PHs.

2. Normally, the named and the PHs will spawn in the north half of the zone, but they can spawn in the south..

3. I used a bard to track the re-spawns so that I would not get the spawns from the kills in the canyon area on tracking.

4. Watch the tracking very closely as the cycle contains orcs that can and will spawn all over the zone.. I:E a Snow Orc Trooper or Shaman. It also contains Snow leopards.

5. The Tainted Mammoth is not part of the cycle nor are any of the skeletons.

Good luck and good hunting.

Thank you scuba for the great guide. I just used it to spawn Karg. A few facts:

* Martar and Karg can be up at the same time, so they are definitely on different cycles.
* The following mobs are, according to other posts and confirmed by my testing, on the spawn cycle:

a large wooly spider
a polar bear
a polar bear cub <----- unique to Karg's spawn cycle
a snow leopard
a snow orc trooper
a wooly mammoth calf
an ice goblin scout
an orcish mountaineer
ice goblin whelp <------ on both Martar & Karg spawn cycles

I found Karg at /loc 2200, -5000, just north of the Wayfarer's Camp. He spawned after I had killed ice goblin whelp (who was wandering to the southeast, between Redwind's ramp and the southern LDoN entrance), then snow orc trooper, at 4 PM game time (which I highly doubt has anything to do with it).

He was not weilding a sword, but yet dropped the Gigantic Zweihander (first kill, yay!) and a regular Two Handed Sword, plus his cloak.

A tip: Many "a polar bear cub" will spawn to the far west in the newbie area, as I assume they are killed by guards. Don't waste time chasing these, only those in the eastern half of the zone, from the frozen river and towards Permafrost.

As of 2020, a polar bear cub is not unique to Karg's cycle. Caught it on Martar's as well.

Edit: having now killed Martar around 50 times and Karg 3, I think "a large wooly spider" may be unique to Karg's cycle.

The exact location when I killed Karg Icebear was + 1888, -4444, -100. I did nothing to spawn him, he spawned on his own. I was right in the middle of the river directly west of the Wayfarer Camp. I do not know how long a wait you will have but he paths that way, so good luck. Almost forgot it was 4 a.m. game time.

Yeah, this isn't a fun camp. Ive followed Martar around.. to no avail, twice. One of the times I followed him, he walked in front of Tundra Jack and got waxed. I've pulled him to ice giants the other 3 times. I agree his pathing sounds like what someone noting Kargs pathing. I see in the pic of Karg that he is standing on ice over water. Ive killed everything that moves anywhere near the frozen river for hours, and nothing. Currently the month in game time is the end of may. What is the possibility that he will show up in the spring? We shall see. Ive been camping the area with a druid for over 7 days now, and though ive seen martar 4 times, Karg zero times.

He finally spawned on Sunday 8 am, august 15 3251. I have been spending a lot of time killing anything that moves that pathed near morgan and tundra jack/icebears tower.. east side. I did this because, as other posters said, martar pretty much paths by that tower every time hes up, but sometimes takes a little different route in other parts of his circuit. Marter seemed to spawn just on the river right next to the ldon camp one time.. east side of fork. When I saw Karg on track, he was more than halfway up the right fork of river from the fork. I didn't manage to see his spawn spot, but got to him pretty close after he spawned. If I can get myself to look for him again(don't really need to since I got gigantic weapon for rogue on that kill), I will track his path and see what sort of end he comes to. As others stated, karg seems to poof at the end of his circuit? Location I ran across him and he was headed west was 2773, -5514, -70.

BTW, Ive never seen Martar in the area I found karg, that far north.

Because he did not drop the Zweihander for Rogue epic on last spawn, I camped the zone for his next spawn. He did not pop again until the following Sunday, and the game time was 4AM. Again, he only dropped the two-handed sword and the fine steel two-handed sword, but no Gigantic Zweihander. So, he has had his spawn time made even more rare than twelve years ago when I did the Rogue epic last, and it may take several efforts to get the drop for the Rogue Epic 1.0.

Just recently finished off hunting this guy for the last 2 weeks. Had a druid camped at the split of the river. First few days i was logging on every hour or so to find nothing. From there i read in a early post that he spawns at midnite or noon time. So from that i started checking early mornings and late evenings. Over the remainder of the week i seemed to be getting him twice a day. Found this to be more annoying than pickpocketing for the notes.

he seems to spawn round midnight gametime, had him on track with my ranger found him and quickly logged my rogue... his path seems to start at Everfrost Keep area and he makes a big circle either north by northwest to the close tower, then west over the river's to megan's tower to just west of the spell vender Starn, sits there for a few, then heads south to about halfway through the zone, then heads east cross the river to the Huge Giant Statue, then back north the Keep and disappears.... the next time he popped, he went the same path in reverse

Killed him but he didn't drop the Giant Sweiahander i was lookin for.... hope this helps some

Been camping him for 5 days with my bard and wife's ranger. Never seen him. Not once. Killing everything the the zone doesn't help either. Since alot of the previous post contradict each other, I will post what happened when i find him. Marter Icebear has spawned several times. Left him alone and killed him both does nothing to bring Karg up. Followed Marter around and he just makes a big circle around the icy river.
