Camped this guy a few days back with my three man box (pal, dru, enc @ ~24). Easiest to camp on the snowy mounds on the far side of the platform, which are on the other side from the side ramp up to the platform. Preacher seems to spawn somewhat rarely. Saw him maybe once in every four to five spawns. Once you break the room, including the platform, ent from tunnels leading from flag and the back leading to caves, it's pretty easy to farm. I got one Runed Circlet out of about four preacher pops. Would have stayed longer but I already had a hat for enchanter, so gave circlet to druid.
I could have some interest getting the RC. Do you think an untwinked VAH 34 BST could handle this alone? I mean: could I go to Permafrost (shouldn't be a problem), go into the room where the preacher spawns, kill the preacher and go back to PoK or barbarian city.
Probably. I'm a self-equipped L30 Paladin and I'm sitting at the camp right now, and I seem to be able to hold it by myself.
It did, however, take a little creativity for me to break it. I had to use soothe (lull) to split a healer from a wizard. Also, there was a prelate placeholder and that fight was eternally long -- the prelates have superior heal.
I would guess that at L34 even more would be green to me. (At L30, they're a mix of green, light blue and blue.)
If you want to "test" yourself -- I found the archaeologist spawn to be an easier break. If you can break that, you should be fine with the preacher, its only a little bit harder.
Camped this guy and the Alchemist for an hour and a half. This guy popped and dropped the Circlet, Alchemist has yet to pop. Green to a 41 paly, went down like a pansy. No prob at all.
He is not near the door the Ice Giants. He is on a platform at roughly p200 p200.
When you enter the "flag" room just after the twisty turny passage near the beginning of the dungeon -- you would normally head toward the right to get to the Ice Giant room. To get to the preacher and archaologist spawns, you'll go left from the flag room -- into a series of rooms with doors.
Hope that helps you (or other future people) -- it's only a year later! *grins*
At 30 he's definately soloable. The main problem with him is that he LOVES to heal. When he does, he will ussually do so twice in a row for about 2/3 of his hp. This can make fights with him long indeed. When he gets down to about 1/3 of his health, have your finger rdy on the nuke button, or in the case of Paladins, on the stun button.
This is one of those mobs that can be near impossible when soloing, but with a partner goes down easily.
Your only problem is breaking the spawn site Drapel. If you can break, or get someone to break for you, you can handle him. But better have camp timed right cause theres two other casters there that will heal and nuke you P.

A great item off the preacher as a 48 cleric i was using a SSB for a very long time good for ac but i needed more wisdom. Was in perma the other night waiting on vox raid some druid in my raiding group seen this dude on track so i ran and killed it. Droped the circlet very nice +4 wisdom now on my head slot i'll be happy with this till i get my planes or kunark helm.
It seems the guy is unerfed at the moment, but it seems that on some servers Perma is heavily camped. At least, on Prexus, I was there for the cloak and there was no one else in the zone. So I did both camps. I didn't killed anything. He just spawned and I killed him, he dropped the Runed Circlet.
18 minutes later (as a guy in the thread said) he re-spawned, I killed him again: he dropped money only this time.
It seems that 1) if he haven't been killed in a long time he will drop some of his good stuff or that 2) I just was lucky that day.
It seems too that the Runed Circlet is a very COMMON item on druids and cleric in Prexus, so it seems that 1) the price on Prexus is fair-cheap or that 2) the item is very easy to get.
Don't buy the item, just camp the guy, 400pp for this drop is not worth if you can have it by easy camp.
Aye you got it, i popped in late one nite (morning) and noone in zone, set out, camped preacher.
Broke camp, went in to break archeologist camp, come back, wait like 4 min and pop, preacher starts attackin, pet killes drops runed circlet.
I kill archeologist, get bag, head back, pop again, runed circlet again. Then i head over to see the alchemist, im inv to save time, gonna get pet when i get there, but alchemist is the ONLY one i see in the zone so far that sees inv, so i gotta nuke him, he drops legs for my troll.
AAAAAaaanyway, I totally agree with your idea, frequently when I have come to empty camps, they pop the rare spawn after breaking camp. Happens at the ancient croc camp without a doubt ).
I've seen it noted that the Runed Circlet is the Preachers Rare Drop and CIMS was his common. After 2 days of camping him ( ten hours total ), we left w/ 4 Runed Circlets and only 3 Cold Iron Morning Stars?
Everything in Permafrost is on an 18 minute timer but occasionally a spawn will skip a round and of course each of the named mobs have placeholders. If you are high enough level most of the named mobs can be pulled single by either killing something close by and pulling to that spot or just finding a vacant spot to pull to. I didn't run into anything that sees invis until I got to the king/priest/patriarch room where some elites could see invis. Everything from the flag room on will aggro you regardless of your level if you get close enough but the higher level you are the lower their aggro and assist ranges are until you can almost get in hailing distance or cross pull and not aggro. The hall before the Preacher room is a good spot to hang out and rest, as stated earlier, since nothing wanders there. Oh yea prepare for a LONG wait, I must have gotten about 6 CIMS before I saw a runed circlet over the course of many many hours in perma.
waited 3 hours with a partner for him to spawn but then someone else in Perma at the time suggested that the zone might be broken, maybe? Finally after 3 hours he popped and dropped the circlet.
I am a 32 Iksar Shaman, and went in to his room, killing anything that attacked me along the way. Took most of the room one at a time, except for the first pull, which got one other with him. The hall just outside of his room is awesome for medding back up to full, as nothing wanders here at all that I saw, and is far enough from everything to avoid getting attacked when you sit. After clearing the room (preacher wasn't out yet), it took over 30 minutes for anything to pop in the room, and the first thing that did was the Preacher himself. He even spawned before other things in the room that I had killed before his placeholder. Wierd! That time attacking him I did things wrong and had to zone(kept healing himself), but healed up and went in for another try. He had a priest with him this time, to help him heal, but I pulled to the zone and had a 19 warrior help me beat him down and his priest friend. Got the runed circlet for my efforts. :) I don't understand why the spawn time in his room was MUCH greater than even the things I had killed along the way to his room. Just plain wierd to me, but hey. I got him and thats what matters!
How many goblins spawn in the room with him? What are the goblins that spawn in the room with him? Are there any mobs that wonder around nearby that may enter the room? Are there any mobs just outside the room that will join in if mobs get to close to the doors? What the spawn time on any of the mobs there? Any other information about this camp that you could supply would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.
I have camped the Preacher now for about 2 hours along with the Archeologist since they are so close together. I am 34th Level Ranger and have only Gotten the Rare Drops of these 2 guys. The Circlet(4) and the Mask(3). My friend who is a 40th level Shaman has only goten the Circlet Once and never theh Mask. I am just wondering if they (VI/Sony) have inplamented some kind of Loot dropping formual that favors the correct levels. Something less noticeable but like the Warrens. IE. I still get (EXP) from most of the MOBS that spawn in Permafrost. They are High to Blue at 34th level. Just a Though?
i'm level 43 magician. just finished camping preacher spawn. took 3 hours approx. after 2 hours and 40 minutes of killing placeholders preacher spawned. killed it and got runed circlet right off.
I have one thing to say about this mini quest ,....It SUCKS!!!! I spent 6 Hrs in the room that the map at this site says the Preacher is supposed to spawn in and kept it clear of all goblins the whole time. The Ice Goblin Preacher did not spawn once!!!I have a lv 37 Druid and I kept "Tracking" like every 10 Mins . Nothing , absolutely nothing.
Myself and my Ranger companion (Wiz Lvl 34 and Rngr Lvl 33) snuck into the preachers room invis and scoped out the scene and pulled the door and side guys in one big mosh. *sigh* So we knocked them down in stead and medded up for the preacher and his side kick. After pulling just him we eventually dropped him and I was out of all mana and my Ranger friend was battered from teh melee. Our prize? A Runed Circlet of Course!!! So I think it is just the luck of the draw.
From Halas you need to wind west to the tundra, exiting the nubie zone at either of the 2 guard locations. head north, there is a back door so to speak into perma, appears as a cave ent.into a rather long tunnel when you get to the T, hang a left, you will zone, you're in.. The caverns are in the N.W area of the EF zone. Another way is just past that cave. A large castle like entrence guarded by 3 frost giants. I like the other. SOW will not work inside, invis or camo till you find the preacher just a little past the flag room to the left. Take a few friends with you. Good luck.
I easily held the Preacher room and the Archeologist room as a 35 Ranger. Spent most of my time in the Preacher room killing the PH, and other greenies, fair money doing this while waiting. While here I always kept checking tracking for the Arch, if he didn't pop, I ran over to Arch room and killed the PH there and then went back to my spot in the Preachers room. Got me an Arch Pack, 2 Dented Brass Masks, 3 Runed Circlets, and 2 CIMS, that way. As luck would have it, on my way out to sell someone was killing IG's and I got a Zaharn's Coronet, 2 Silvery War Axes, and a 2 Handed Silvery Axe. When I returned, I camoed myself and went over to check the Alch Room, amazingly enough that Alchie was up, only had the leggings but hey, he was actually up. The jailmaster and scryer are the hardest spots to hold solo, the scryer can be done if you can get the room cleared and keep it cleared, the jailmaster room spawns so fast though it is very hard to keep it solo.
Camped him last night with some Guildies right before the patch. His spawn time sucks big, more staning saround than anything else. There were 5 of us. 2 low 20, 0ne high 2o, and 2 mid 30. He was easy. We killed him 2 times and got 2 circlets. Nice hat for my mage, looks pretty. As for soloing him, no. Not unless the room is broken up prior. The one place holder tat spawned wa a wizzie, really green even to 20 Mage.
Enjoy, Good Hunting Bananorn Stormcaller Mage 20th Season Darkholme Saryrn
As a level 35 character I hunted the Preacher on 8, and 9 october to try and get the Cold Iron Morningstar. I killed the Preacher four times and got a Runed Circlet every time. This is not the first time I have tried with similar results. Maybe I am just really lucky (or unlucky since I was trying for a CIMS) but I believe the drops are switched and the CIMS is no longer the common drop.
Killed him 5 times over the last few days, he's dropped the circlet each time. Sad thing is, I really want a CIMS too =) Haven't seen one yet, but I'll keep trying =)
Yup, this is right. I have killed the Preacher 5 times in the last week also - 5 RC's and 1 CIMS. The one time he had the CIMS he dropped the RC also =)
