Hasten Bootstrutter

In the Formal Dining Hall: Part of the anniversary task "Lucky 13" (see this quest entry for details).

In the Tower of Frozen Shadow: Part of the third encounter within the Tower of Frozen Shadow anniversary raid (see this quest entry for raid information).

In the Mountains of Rathe: Hasten is the bearer of a lovely set of boots which he stole from Drelzna in Najena. In return for 3,250 gold (or 325 platinum), the ring of the ancients from the Ancient Cyclops and a shadowed rapier from the Shadowmen, he will give you the Journeyman's Boots.

The boots cast a spell which gives you a movement boost.

Hasten can initially be found in the hill giant area of the Rathe Mountains, although he tends to wander quickly throughout the area.

It is possible for Hasten to become stuck beneath a rock near the Hill Giant area of the mountains. When he is under the rock, you can hear him moving, but cannot target him or talk to him.

As a side note, level 36 enchanters should NOT use their AE Stuns to get him from under the rock and expect to live to make it to the zone. ;0

I saw Hasten appear on track without me having killed anything (and yes I was nearby and watching ph go in and our for an hour or 2) and tracked him to (right where it says Brother Zephyl on Good's maps) and I decided to do a little information gathering. I followed him south from there until 1046 -2397 where he turned right (as he was going south) and he went west towards the 2 named beetles, then turned north (did not turn west into the drake area) and kept going north and then northwest at 3556, 337, going between the huts, and paused at at 4692 1618 for about 30 seconds. He then proceeded to backtrack to the intersection at 1160, -150 at which point he turned south, paused at 874, 154 where he turned back east, north at 1078, -2398, paused at 1593, -2434 (right where it says Maldyn the Unkempt on Good's maps) where I witnessed him de-spawn.

I watched many of the mobs which follow the similar route path north into the hill giant area and they each to have their own unique path once they get into that area, but it is quite a few different waypoints and too onerous to list them all.

Hasten de-spawned in the path going north/south, Zephyl went into the Dead-end path NE of that and de-spawned. No other PH de-spawned where they did.

Hasten also did show on track without me killing anything, coming out of the hill giant area, as did the drake, and grizzly bear. I witnessed many mobs go in, and they all appear to de-spawn there, and come back out as a new mob. I followed several in and they all had slightly different paths and different points where they stopped/altered course. Similar, but not the same, even if only off by a few meters.

No PH went the same Hasten did precisely, other than Hasten himself. The drake did not go south through the beetles and pause before heading back east, the drake went east, right after crossing between the beetles.

But...Brother Zephyl despawned and was replaced by Hasten on track. I think we knew that one, however.

So what does that all mean? I would just camp the easternmost intersection and kill everything for the best bet.

Spawned today on Rizlona TLP server during Classic era.

He spawned near the orc tents at hill giants, and then walked down the hill toward the Feerrott intersection like normal.

I was able to keep him in place by periodically hailing him, and completed all 6 character turn-ins without him despawning.

as in "a drake", there can also be "a grizzly bear". It spawns on the same 4:45 timer and is definitely part of the PH cyle.

If you set up a tracker by Glaron the Wicked set track to distance and wait for "a drake", "Maldyn the Unkempt", "Brother Zephyl" and "Hasten Bootstrutter" you can quickly kill the mobs you aren't waiting for until he pops. 6ish minutes between spawns. Can kills HGs for cash between spawns as well.

I just used this map a few minutes ago to find Hasten or his PH. I followed the path in reverse and found him at his stopping place near the Inn at number 2 on the map. Got the boots, and now my life is a lot easier.

I just 5 minutes ago helped someone with this, and he did not spawn in front of Feerrott. He spawned up near where the Hill Giants are, in the exact same place where the drake spawns (just down the hill from vendors on the HG hill). He started pathing in the direction of the Feerrott zoneline (though we stopped him so someone could do the turn in.)

Been doing this quest all weekend getting the boots for all my lowbie alts. He definitely spawns somewhere on the hill with the Hill Giants, then wanders towards the Feerrott zone in area. To get him to spawn, kill "a drake" or Brother Zephyl or Maldyn the Unkempt as they wander down the hill near Glaron the Wicked. Hasten no longer "hastens" along his path but rather dawdles along at a rather slow pace. I gave him the Ring of the Ancients and a Shadowed Rapier with my higher alt, logged, then relogged my lower alt to give him the 325pp. My lower alts were camped at the Feerrott zone area and only had to run straight out to catch Hasten. Rinse and repeat.

The map link in here is accurate as to his path, but i wonder if he doesn't either spawn or pause for significant time at the Inn (turn-around point) because i was helping a buddy find this guy, and i had track on the whole time. He was NOT on track as i was standing next to the Inn, out in the path of his travel, then all of the sudden POOF there he was next to me walking back down the path (south) away from the Inn, as though he had just come out of the Inn -- but i am certain he was not on track prior to that moment. So, that's what i have to add to this thread that may get about as much use these days as MC Hammer's baggy pants -- i t seems no one gets the J-Boots anymore....

Bootstrutters Path as of 2008/10/06

The "Spawn point" is the first area I witnessend him and the point he despawend. At the "turn-around"-points he did a short break. Spawn to despawn = ~ 20 minutes.

That is because he is on a 6 minute spawn timer; shares the spawn with "a drake", Brother Zephyl (monk quest), and Maldyn the Unkempt (ranger quest). All spawn on the hill giant hill near the paladin camp.

Hasten Ripped Me Off!

I was finally able find Hasten, gave him the the Ring and The rapier but couldn't remember how much money I was suppose to give him (been trying to complete this for a long time) so I gave him 375 plat. He took all my items but never gave me the boots. He said he wanted 3250 of Gold. I know I have done other quests that you don't have to hand in everything at once. So I went to the local bank and discovered he gave me my money back but that was it. To be safe I gave converted it to gold. Spent another hour tracking him down and gave him the gold. He accepted it but still no boots. So I /Petitioned. The GM verified I did give everything but instead of just giving me the boots, he just gave me back the Ring. So I had to get a rapier and more money again. Spent another hour finding him. This time I gave him everything at once in gold (didn't want to take any chances). Finally, he gave me the boots. Moral of the story: Give everything at once for this quest.

Wow, this is hard to read. The reason you failed the 2nd hand in is because you handed your gold to a different Hasten, the one you turned in the Rapier and Ring to despawned a long time ago. I know this is 13 years late but hopefully it helps someone else.

How I found Hasten
# Aug 03 2006 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
I just finished this quest yesterday and here's how I found Hasten after about 20 minutes.

I entered the zone from the Lake side and ran the most direct route that I could to the 4-way intersection right in front of the zone to the ferrott. In running this path I came across "a drake"...I killed it.

I then just sat at that 4-way intersection and killed everything that came thru(although I probably only needed to kill the placeholders, I was bored). Thus I ended up killing 2 more "a drake", a basilik, a couple beetle, a couple bears and a cyclops. I constantly faced the direction that would have taken me to the hill giants had I continued running thru the zone.

Eventually Hasten just pathed directly to me...you can see him moving towards you from quite far away.

OK Peeps.
was killin HGs as you do, and low and behold he pops RIGHT in front of me =D

spawn loc...+3550 -2020

He paths south through the main route from frog town, past feerott ZL.
Hope this helps

Edit: my main rout may not be yours =p...I mean i go east from frog town to east edge of map then north, its the last section of this path i mean

With the Froglok town being moved here (RM), the Hill Giant area has been moved. This throws off some of these posts that reference the HG camp (which one, old or new). I cannot confirm placeholders, killing drakes or exactly where he spawns. However, as of today I spent 30 minutes tracking him in all four corners of the zone and never saw him once on my track. I got to +3100, +130 (which is on the way to the center of the zone (closest to the Lake Rathe zone in) and was about to give up for the time being when he strolled right passed me. As of today, I can confirm he atleast paths through here.
My Time finding hasten...

Last night which was April 02, 2006. This was what i recorded.

Spawn Location... Just north of the zone in from ferrot. This was where the spawn rotation starts. Stand in the middle of the path that leads to the hill giant hill. You can see Hastens place holders pop and him.

Spawn timer... A drake, Brother Zephy, malkyn, AND hasten are all on a roughly 8 min 53 second spawn timer +/- 20 seconds.

My night went as so....

Killed 15 drakes and 1 malkyn. Brother Zephy popped and walked around the zone for around 20 mins. He depoped and then i killed 2 more drakes and hasten popped. Now i have my brand new jboots :). And yes i know that you can get the fabled jboots by camping nejena but uk what thats dumb. lol

ok, tracking, you will find that he the drake spawns at several different spawn points in the giant hill area, and his spawn time is closer to 6 minutes

Hasten
# Sep 10 2005 at 11:44 PM Rating: Decent
I think I have located the spawn point of Hasten or his ph. I have killed 9 "a drake" and one "Malkyn the Unkempt" today. They spawn in the valley just southeast of the merchants in the north area. I am talking about the merchants in the northwest most area where the huts are. Head southeast of the huts to where that area bottlenecks into the valley and you will get you a ph every 9 minutes. The spawn location is aprox +3100, +130. The drake heads northwest to the lake rathe zone area, doubles back the way he came going past the totem with the named beetles, and will eventually hit the crossroads near feerot.

edit later the same day...

Ok to follow up, it took me 11 or 12 drakes and one Malkyn to finally get Hasten to spawn. The loc above worked like clockwork every 9 minutes. Not a single scale drop off of any of the drakes. Malkyn dropped the bow part A. Hasten gave me my new JBoots.

Just wanted to confirm what Pique stated, the area right around +3100, +130 is the spawn point. Time being roughly 9 min from ToD and what ever spawns heads immediately NNW to run its path.
RE: Hasten
# Feb 02 2006 at 5:14 PM Rating: Decent
This is actually just a spot that the spawns all roam to from across the mountain (unpassable) ridge to the east where the hill giants are. That is the actual location. They can spawn in about 4 different spots around 3200, -950. Note thats not an actual spawn point, jsut the general location of the top of hill giant hill. If you can't track or be able to run around the small area up top there safely then the co-ords listed above is safe bet to wait for the pops to warp through the wall. However, the timer is 6 minutes on the hill, and it will be 9-10 minutes at least waiting at the warp point.. So you will get less kills in per hour.

Spawned Hasten at around 12 am. All the old posts said he spawns in the southern end of the zone, but since the froggies moved in, he now spawns just east of Lake Rathe zone line. Waited at the opening in the cliffs east of zoneline and had a druid guildie track, after 2 'a drake', we got a Hasten. Am now the proud owner of a pair of JBoots.

they all seem to spawn around the new HG area and can move THROUGH walls to get to other valleys! spawn timer is 5:57 (not 6 mins) so you can save yourself another 3 seconds...i have been killing drakes for a while now. saw 1 hasten and way too many drakes and now 1 maldyn. no brother yet /cry. good luck to all yall!

With the Guktan invasion of Rath Mountains, several key mobs have been moved from their traditional places/pathing.

Most notably, the hill giants are moved to the plataeu in the Northeast section (hang a right from the Feerrott entrance). This is also the spawn point for Hasten Bootstrutter's cycle. Notables on the cycle include Maldyn the Unkempt and Brother Zephyl. Hasten/PH will spawn in the FAR WEST of this section and proceed west THROUGH THE MOUNTAIN. Best to set up in the canyon on the other side to catch him or his PHs. He then tracks west through the Northwest section and does a tour there, comes back eventually to the crossroads area by Feerrott. He then turns into the new hill giant area and back to his start.

What I have been doing (I need to spawn Brother Zephyl) is setting up in the canyon, tracking. Once you get the cycle, it is hard to miss it as it will pop at the top of the list (druid track).
Kill any 'a drake' you see. They will pop into the canyon from the other side of the mountain.

So far I have been able to spawn Hasten 3 or 4 times, Maldyn once, and many 'a drake's. I am guessing that once dead, the next spawn is like 4 minutes (didn't time it). Still waiting for Zephyl to spawn.
They changed his pathing, Thanks EQ

He used to run all over the zone and make micro stops as he ran, a real pain. But last two times I did the quest, he stops for a while and in many different area in the same section. I had them but when I reinstalled my maps it wiped them off. They are all near the undead tower thing near the feerott zone taking the narrow left path at the first intersection. He stopped in that area on the feerott side of the hill in 4 different locations. Stood there for about 15 to 20 sec., Hope this helps people.

Just got mine today. Camped AC in OOT for about 5 hours. NP on the other stuff, but had to have druid track and kill PH for Hasten. Was kind of frustrating to have all the needed peices and can't get that nasty gnome to show.
