In the Formal Dining Hall: Part of the anniversary task "Lucky 13" (see this quest entry for details).
In the Tower of Frozen Shadow: Part of the third encounter within the Tower of Frozen Shadow anniversary raid (see this quest entry for raid information).
In the Mountains of Rathe: Hasten is the bearer of a lovely set of boots which he stole from Drelzna in Najena. In return for 3,250 gold (or 325 platinum), the ring of the ancients from the Ancient Cyclops and a shadowed rapier from the Shadowmen, he will give you the Journeyman's Boots.
The boots cast a spell which gives you a movement boost.
Hasten can initially be found in the hill giant area of the Rathe Mountains, although he tends to wander quickly throughout the area.
It is possible for Hasten to become stuck beneath a rock near the Hill Giant area of the mountains. When he is under the rock, you can hear him moving, but cannot target him or talk to him.
As a side note, level 36 enchanters should NOT use their AE Stuns to get him from under the rock and expect to live to make it to the zone. ;0

Odd that Hasten's surname is Bootstrutter when he(Hasten) stole these boots..Typical dispicable gnome.
So if you do the quest and buy these boots from him(3250 gold), you would be buying 'hot' boots.

I think the AC in OOT is fiction, yet I continue to camp him. LOL.
I have seen the AC in SRO 3 times(when I was on with my druid, so I left him alone), I have never seen the AC in OOT.

I killed the AC on my warrior lvl 26 all i did was camp ac with my shaman on other comp (lvl 56)DoTed him and rooted down to about a in ancient and then i camped me warrior on other comp and grouped with my shaman and owned him i got the ring and looted it on warrior. so basically im saying get one of your hi lvl frieds(someone who can root and dot well) and group with them and let them do the job there you go J boots for JOO

It would depend on the level of your friends. The AC in SRO is low level, 35. The AC in OOT is higher level, 40.
I can vouch that the AC in SRO has high fire resistance. So have a druid cast RO's Firey Sundering on him before any fire based spells are cast.

basically I have seen him almost everytime I have gone to this zone to finght hg's. he is usually found in hg valley, and just north and east from the entrance to hg valley rom the golden tower with the beetles next to it. I hailed him many times, but do not do the quest. I have also tried to fight him which was a big mistake when I was level 42, and he is ASLDFG fast. I had at the time sow and 162 agi, basically I started with rooting him and then doting root broke and then he doubled for high 80-low 90's, then I ran and then stopped to root again and got back stabbed imediatly for 300+. I still ran to zone but died just before. he hit's very hard and I suggest not taking him on ever cause he is 1 tough ****.

OK, I got lucky on the AC. I camped him all of 15 minutes or so.
One hint on the Shadowed Rapier - if it's not popping at your camp, check the other camp. I started in WC and no rapier. I asked a friend (druid) who ported to Lava and said "yep, I see a rapier." She killed it and brought it to me in WC then was kind enough to port me to Feerott.
Here's the real reason I'm posting - Hasten Bootstrutter. I visited RM twice for a friend on the same quest. The first time, we killed "a drake" (the PH) once and the monk popped. We didn't want to chance the monk, so after waiting a bit we left. The second time we came back and Hasten was up. End of story.
This note is to add validity to what has already been posted. Returning for myself with the same friend, we killed "a drake" 3 or 4 times. We then killed Madelyn the Unkempt once. "a drake" popped and we killed about 8 more times after which Hasten showed up. I was thrilled the monk didn't pop as that would have been a show-stopper.
Total camp time (2nd go) was a little over an hour.
My conclusion, the PHes listed here seem to be valid based upon my experience.

Hahaha funny thing i always seem to see this gnome run in between my legs when hunting HG's. Iam always wondering what he is for. lol. He's quick to. He is same speed as my wolf form i think. But you shouldn't have a problem finding him if you got good skill in track.Well anyway i will do the jboots quest when iam bored for now i prefer to click the little spell called sow =p.

the last 3 days ive been camping trying everything finally spawns and i shred him get the ring then to nek for the rapier 2 hours 1 finally drops.. then easy to rathe right..nope get there and kill 8 drakes which are the very common then the monk spawns dont mess with him and he wont mess with you but u have to wait for despawn around 2 hours if u dont want to wait then dot yourself with vos if your a nec and die b4 doing this make sure your bound near no exp loss and when u get the patience again loot your corpse and rapier oh and to check for him cast pet use pet attack hastem or brother or drake to check which is up and use assist "pet" use pets name in assist then pet back off so u dont attack the monk :) hope this makes things easy for you

I think he was trying to explain a way to find out if hasten is up. If you are a pet class you can use /pet attack *mob name here* to force your pet to attack. So if you type /pet attack hasten and then assist your pet, you will target hasten if he is up. If he is not up you type /pet attack brother zephyl (spelling?) and do the same. Just make sure to quickly use the /pet back off command so that you don't have a level 61 monk chasing you =).
Also, the reason he said to DoT yourself is because if you die either in a duel or via DoTing yourself then you do not lose no rent items when you camp. Just on of those little bugs people don't always know about =).

does this accually work? if it does then cool. i never tried it before. but i can extend this idea further. if you are an enchanter you will get a spell called bind sight. it works on anything you target anywhere in the zone. if you charm a fire beetle, /pet attack hasten bootstrutter, /assist pet, /pet back off, and cast bind sight on hasten to see where hes running. this is a good way to study his pathing, where he runs and where he doesnt run. simply sit down in an area where he runs and click, hail, hail, hail, hail, when or if he sees you. he will stop for at least 10 seconds. at which point hes all yours. be quick about it. as it can suck if he runs off during the interaction.
theres also another way to make sure u dont lose him. if you have an alternative character who needs jboots but isnt a tracker or high enough to kill those damned drake PHs then you need to stop hasten. since hes so fast you need to either have a friend hail him OR if you time it right catch him on a path and /camp. keep hailing him. again and again. you now have 10 seconds to log on your alt. if it takes longer no fear as he will run to you since pathing restricts him to certain areas. dont let him run by you. hail the hell out of him. haul *** and hope you have time to get your alts butt in motion before hasten runs behind you and u need to repeat the process again...
a simpler way yet risky is to mez or root him. this is risky because he is crazy mean when agroed. but a tash and mez should stick long enough for you to get root off. you can even memory blur him after you root him. just make sure you get the hell out of there asap. root lasts for about 40 seconds. enstill lasts for about a minute. this leaves you 10 to 30 seconds to log your alt on after you /camp.

There is a purpose for druids and shamans to have this... when on dragon raids(WW, naggy, vox etc) Their AE dispells. Put up jboots in the first slot, it will(not always though) be the one to be dispelled. Just put it up again. Once in a while a random buff will be dispelled from verants coding.. but the first one will still be the one to be dispelled usually

I went to Sro just to check out the area and get it in my head, i was going to camp the AC with a buddie in a few levels. I was there for about 35 minutes and i sat to camp and there walking acrost hill was the AC, i got up, and starting nuking and he died, got the ring. Not one person gave me any troubly during the fight, but afterwords about 5 lvl 50+ showed up at the crime scene. Acually finishing the quest was harder then getting the ring. =P

im a lvl 24 mag, camped the gbs, got half the money (split with friend), got my 4k of it, made some money doing random things, and I couldn't decide what to spend my money on. I didn't really need int gear, but some high level mage said I should get tboots or jboots. I didn't have enough to buy tboots, but then he told be there were multiquested... I went to gfay, auction once for a multiquested jboots, and offered 4k.. Plus the 325 pp it took. Prolly got ripped off, but hey, i can camp the gbs again. The person already had the ring, we tped over to wk, killed the shadowed man in 5 mins, tped over to the rathe mountains, found hasten, and i got the jboots. I spent 4.3 k in about 15 minutes, and got my jboots. figured it was going to be a while until I could get the stoopit things... I can now pet kite, where i nuke till i taunt, run in circles till pet retaunts, and easy solo. WOOOOH.

Bro Z is a 61st level monk. If you get him, and don't have an uber force to back you up, you'll have to wait for him to despawn. I had to wait through him twice, the first being over 5 hours, and the second being about an hour and 45 minutes.

heh i was camping ac at lvl 30 with a 60 friend. we were there for about 30 min and then AC spawns the 60 mightystriked it and it was dead quick. so i got acient ring went to bank got raiper and went to Rathe and got jboots!!

I'm a 50 Monk trying to get Brother Zephyl to spawn so I can finish my quest. I have killed this guy at least 6 times so far in about a 4 hour period. Seems to be a fairly common spawn. Spawn Cycle is roughly 6 minutes. And spawn point does change due to the fact he is a wandering spawn.

My AC 1014, attack 1005, hp 1450. It takes 3 Complete Heals from a cleric to do the fight, last one will take you to full just as hasten starts to run. Hasten hits for about 93-96 max. He gives me about 1/3 of a blue bubble in exp at 50.
It's really sad I started this bloody RotLC quest when just hit 50, and I'm less then 2 blue bubbles from 51.

I was in RM soloing HGs for fun and profit, and this monk starts crying over ooc how he needs his quest npc to pop so he can get a nice robe. He asked me to help him kill hasten. Hhmm ok, I love a good thrill. First off I shouted many many many times for anyone doing Jboot quest that needed Hasten before we killed him. No one answered so... were on. I had the monk wait by zone so I could zone out and avoid any faction hit. I pulled him with snare - blasted him once, doted him once. got back to the monk, and hasten was really pissed at me, so the monk got free backshots for about 5 minutes. Then I lost agro, and sat back - casted 3 Gheals on the monk, then zoned. Monk reported NO LOOT, NO FACTION HIT - but good exp.

I could probly solo him with root dot med. just PLEASE dont kill him for no reason at all, there are many people that need him for Jboot quest - and it would suck to not get him to spawn and have to log and lose that rapier. the Jboots quest is very long so dont ruin it for others if you dont really really have to.

He IS much faster than sow, and faster than Greater Wolfform. Even snared, this little guy moves pretty fast. I did end up soloing him at lvl 42, was a very close fight - with me oom at the end.
A side note, he heals very quickly, which made him a perfect target when I wanted to max out my worthless druid melee skills. I used Snare/Blast till he was down to running, then I beat on him with my karana fishing pole and well ballanced scimitar to max out those skills. He heals faster than I could do dmg with melee, so I had to blast him every so often to keep him from running (also refresh snare often). If someone comes along and needs Jboots, just camp out to clear agro, and resume when they are done. This is actually doing a favor for those in need of Jboots, cause hasten will not despawn hehe.

Don't you just hate those 'I got my jboots in less than 3 hours' stories? Ugh! That is, untill it happens to you :)
Last night I was on the boat going to bb and noticed that there were no high levels on /who. Holy Crud! no one is camping AC? Great :)
So I jump off boat as it passes, camp the spawn for 2 1/2 hours and AC pops! I couldn't believe it, I just stared at my screen for 3 seconds, then quickly sent pet, cast bond of death on ac and pact shadow on pet and hunkered down for what I thought would be a long fight.
(I saw a 50 player in wolf form and a 50ish partner try to take the ac once and it took them a long time, they were fighting him all over the front of the island so i thought the ac was pretty tough.)
I look down to see his hp bar and it hasn't moved at all! I thought, oh crud this is not good, then the hp bar moves down to @ 80%, stupid mob hp update lag scared me ) So I use normal spell routine for his cyclops place holders and he is dead before bod wears off )
total time for ac is just under 2 1/2 hours.
now off to get the shadowed rapier. I try the shadow man camp by the hand in innothule swamp since it's close to rathe mountain zone. I clear the 4 shadow men and 1 pet then get the rapier on the first one to repop. This is nuts! What's going on? I don't complain to much, grap the rapier and slowly walk off to rathe :)
total time buffing, medding then fighting less than 10 minutes
Finally in rath, so of course give an ooc to see if anyone has hasten on track, no one does. get pet, buff, med then call out again. Yes! He is here, somewhere. I position myself at the crossroads after coming from feerott and keep looking south and west. A very nice druid takes the road south and hails him just before he gets to the crossroads and gives me a tell. Yay:)
I hail him and he doesn't give a go away message. I con him he is indiff, great:) I give the rapier, then ring, then gold to him and hit trade. Woohoo, Jboots! :)
total time finding Hasten less than 15 minutes.
total total time completing quest (not counting travel time since some can tp or have sow or friends to help out or can use gate): 2 hours 55 minutes
So the main points:
1) it CAN happen quickly, it all depends on luck and eq's random number generator
2) you can put all items in at once then click trade
3) Iksar Necros can do it with no problems, I never messed with beta neutral faction good or bad
4) Hasten will go through the crossroads by the Feerott zone
5) 3250 gp slows you down but not too badly, I had 121/86 in weight and wasn't frustratingly slow. Now that we know he comes from the south just get in the middle of the crossroads so you can see him coming and move in his path to hil.

Hehe I SOOOO know what you mean. I have a friend that camped the AC for over 30 hours at the very least and never got booties for his wizzle. Funny thing is that today when we ran through sro i saw obretl was up, we killed him and then POP <<<< Ancient Cyclops >>>>> is INC,

I have something to add to the story when i logged on my shaman i had been pling a friend in Sro the night before and got to bed early(hard to believe isnt you'd think that impossible with eq around lol)and i woke up at 8 o clock logged on like i said before and guess whos big *** head i saw over the hill by oasis zone the AC! nad i did /w and guess what NO PEOPLE WHERE IN THE ZONE! accept for me so i rooted doted 2 times and he was down to the a i kept him root logged my war on grouped finished AC got ring and thats it.

Being bored today I zoned into Sro and after being in there for less than 5 min...low and behold there was the AC. Killed him and got the ring :) Like I said....just lucky I guess.

Ok all if u dont know aleady your faction with gnomes dont mean anything fer this guy he is a BETA NUTRAL FACTION NPC so unless u really **** up your neurtal faction (vendor killin stuff like that) u are ok fer the quest, he glowered at me and got the boots no prob.

Hasten is on BetaNeutral, so i don't think you would have any trouble with his faction.

What races does he get pissy with?
Beta Neutral is supposed to be indifferent to everyone. But when my agnostic troll warrior got his jboots, Hasten Bootstrutter was dubious to him, not indifferent. Still gave me the boots though. And after all these people saying no faction hit, how was it established that he is on Beta Neutral faction? I'm curious.

All i can say is god help you if you go to RM to get jboots and brother zephyl is up. If he happens to be up just give up and come back tomorrow or later that day.

To catch hasten get your friend to make his pet attack him...after the pet dies (or your friend zones) you should have time to hail him before the lil guy starts runnin again :)

As of the last patch, the /assist method of finding if a creature has spawned no longer works. It's not so bad though, since Hasten seems to never despawn now.
