GM Controlled
# Aug 07 2008 at 7:20 AM Rating: Decent
I remember reading about this once and talking to a GM about it. After a certain time period, shortly before the removal of Mistmoore completely, a GM would control him as the raid event. It was a specific GM too and I can't remember his name, this may have just been on The Nameless though. I'm also fairly sure he was removed before he was killed, but I swear for the life of me I remember it being because that GM died or something and they wanted him to be the only person to control the guy, or he just didn't want to anymore, think that was it. I could be completely off and have no idea what I am talking about but that's what I remember from Mistmoore. Him aggroing on me and one shotting me.

Mayong was very very short lived in the game. The picture above was from when he became gm controlled for storyline events. His original model, later became the Maestro of Rancor in PoHate.
Supposedly he was removed for a combination of reasons.
Bad pathing, where anything agro'd anywhere near the tower would agro him and his whole room.
Also, because it was later decided that he was meant to be too strong for players to kill.
And they wanted to use him in storyline events dealing with the Ring of Scale.

Supposedly, he dropped the sword hilt for the original unsolved version of the Fiery Avenger quest before it was revamped. He was one of the 4 level 53 mobs in the game that dropped a piece, and no one had the chance to attempt him before being removed.(naggy-red scale, vox-white scale, leviathan-blue scale, mistmoore-hilt)

Mayong was mad.
Leveled in MM as everyone then did, from 20+.
Anyone that went into the tower he was in was hated for ever after.
If you agroed him, he would kill you outright, and then for some wacky reason, ran around the zone killing his OWN faction mobs.

Twice I remember he stood at the zone line, and would kill everyone zoning in. GM came and reset him, and when he popped 3 days later, I remember rolling an alt to play, because he was back at the zoneline. Rumor had it that a Fires of Heavens group tried to kill him, and of course failed.

A talk with the Server GM (back when each server had its own GM, and they actually talked to folks..) revealed devs were working on it.. and I think by august/sept mayong was gone.

Back in what context? Mistmoore Castle? Is he a triggered spawn? Raid encounter? Quest NPC? Supposed to be killed? Or was he GM-controlled?

Why MM is not in game
# Sep 20 2004 at 6:09 PM Rating: Default
This mob was in the game in the first month or two. However as many of you know that exped in MM early on the aggro/chain aggro was a little nuts. People wandering near the tower would find half the castle on top of them 15 minutes later. Well Mayong was 53(well beyond the capabilities of any of us uber teen levelled folks.) and occasionally came out of the castle in the above mentioned trains. Of course he killed every single person between the bottom of MM and the zone out in a rapid fashion. So the dev's removed him from the game until they could fix him. Basically they never did, and he's been relegated to a GM run NPC since then.

No, the Maestro of Rancor was (once upon a time) a Qeynosian Bard who fell in love with a fair maiden. While on travels he began to grow suspicious of his love. His suspicion turned to hate and he killed her, but not before he created the Singing Short Sword (it all ties together sometimes, doesn't it?). Innoruuk used this hatred and turned him into the Maestro of Rancor.

# Oct 08 2004 at 9:31 AM Rating: Excellent
Actually you are right. Lore does have Mayong in PoH. Reason being Innoruuk was a lil PO'ed at his daughter Lanys for having an affair with ole MM. So as punishment he took him to PoH where he has become the Maestro of Rancor. He is there to play for Inny and his crew.

Lore I recall (shakily at best) is that Lanys was about to die for one reason or another due to the failure to overtake Highhold Pass (Bloody Kithicor) and MM intervened by pulling Lanys away from the whole affair at the end.
Inny was mad, Lanys was almost dead, GM run MM makes rare appearance.

I had not heard about MM being in game at the very beginning, but it makes sense. Thanks for that part of the story.

Just to clarify:

Lanys is not, and never was the queen of the Teir'dal. Although she very much would like to be. In actuality, she was Innoruuk's Daughter, his Chosen to unleash hell upon Norrath. Unfortunately, she became corrupt with power, so much in fact that she pretty much /rude'd good ol' Inny.

In game, the real king and queen of the Teir'dal were the king and queen of Felwithe. Innoruuk realized the betrayal of the other gods upon him, snatched up the royal stuck-ups, tore them apart, built them up in his image, and made them king and queen of His Children..the Teir'dal.

Anyway, Lanys did indeed have an affiar with MM. A good majority of that was for two reasons: The acquisition of power, and to **** off Daddy (Innoruuk). If you need proof, find Malevolence. It's a weapon/artifact in game given to one person per server. On Xegony, Malicena is called Malicena the Malevolent - the guardian of a weapon which Innoruuk is actually afraid of. This happens to be the weapon that Lanys was trying to get, with MM's help.

Well, as said already, all this did PO Inny off, and he took care of MM.

RE: BTW
# Mar 16 2005 at 5:41 PM Rating: Default
I do believe it's Nagafen and Vox. They bred and created a chromatic dragon, which was illegal by draconian law (because Vox is a blue dragon and Naggy a red one.)

Anyways, that's what I hear.
RE: BTW
# Jul 29 2005 at 8:42 AM Rating: Default
I'm going to correct this before anybody else does. After further research, it has been proved that Naggy and Vox were only PLANNING on having a chromatic baby and were therefore banished.

Whats with you people? You really have nothing better to do than read EQ "lore"? thats pretty pathetic.

By the way Naggy and Vox "bred" and made the sleeper.

RE: BTW

I guess it might be pathetic but you kinda contradicted yourself by pointing out that Naggy and Vox bred and created the sleeper... which of course you're wrong. They planned to create a chromatic dragon and thats why they were seperated and imprisoned because of the fiasco with the Sleeper that had already taken place. It is rumored that Dozekar the Cursed in ToV was the father of the Sleeper. So if you're gonna act all high and mighty and insult people at least get your facts straight, dumb ***.

Doesn't end up destorying the gods, acording to the lore... some from EQ2 web site some from other places. After the mortals killed the 4 warders and the sleeper awoke, he ate them and flew off, possible to go after the dragon that put him there, Veshee. The gods are silent, they destroyed the entry ways to the planes, and destoryed the nexus before they we silent. ATM the ogres are raging war with Qeynos and Freeport

A story
# Jul 26 2004 at 4:33 AM Rating: Excellent
The story continues...

I talked long into the night with Mayong trying to dig out the secret that would lead to the sleeper's demise. After many bottles of wine he began to open up. Just before dawn, he leaned out of his chair near me and grasped my shoulder, looking at me deeply with his black, soulless eyes.
"There is only one way to kill the might dragon who sleeps beneath the icy lands of velious. Are you certain you wish to know?"
I indicated I was, and after a long breath he continued.
"Rezz-zerging" he said.

I left, feeling slightly less impressed with the mystic powers that ruled Norrath.

I mean no offense, but 60-level-whats? Was this guy revamped or something?

I solo'd him while my Druid was in his 50's with not many more than 20 AA's. Equipment wasn't impressive, at least by today's standards. This guy himself was actually quite weak.. it was the millions of adds I had to keep draining my mana to AoE DD that were the hard part. Ended up using regen extensively with heals during the battle.
It wasn't really anything special, just saw him while farming.
I hate to discount the myth of such great power, especially since I love the Lore so much, but, when I went to fight him, this guy really wasn't worth the mention of the name he carries in Lore.

i hate to point stuff like this out, but not possible bud. First, he was takin out before you could get 50, a few months after release. He is occasionaly controlled by gm's, but i very highly doubt that any level geared druid could solo it. So clearly you are lying =/

a story
# Jun 14 2004 at 10:03 PM Rating: Decent
To go along with this lore stuff i decided to make a story(not saying any of this is true):

They say that Mayong is a wondering soul. He wandered all around mistmore castle all day watching in on his "children". He was a supurb leader and considered a "god" to his "children". He was a great ruler for a many 3 years. One day he grew tired of being a god and went to the underfoot. He left his childen to fend for themselves. His children then soon grew angry of there missing leader. Most of them went insane and started attacking innocent travelers who started running all over Mistmoore.

They say that every few times a year Mayong Mistmoore will come back to Mistmoore castle to check on his children and kill all who oppose Mistmoore. They also say that if you talk to Mayong Mistmoore you will learn the secret to kill the Sleeper.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 08 2004 at 6:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If have lately heard that Mayong is played by a GM. (and he is a raid encounter, or he only spawns when you clear the entire zone, bah) BUT, if he is a GM, will he respond to you if you go up and start ahving a conversation with him? or respond to tells? Or is the Gm "trained"? Or does he have every person on EQ on ignore list?

i always chuckle when people say things like oh yeah a buddy of mine killed him or i killed him. you would think after defeating one of the most reclusive mobs in the game the thought "hmm maybe i should take a screenshot otherwise no one will believe me" would pop into your head.

hehe i came here to find actual lore as to what this guy is about and its mostly friend of a friend of a friends cousin did this nonsense. if anyone knows any actual info about this guy whether he is the maestro of rancorr or is still a gm playable guy please share and share your sources as well please.

this guy has always fascinated me and would like to know his story. the real story even tho the lore tends to change from expansion to expansion.
thanks

I haven't really read the lore but I've seen a couple infos from LDoN story guys and maybe Mayong isn't the head "vampire". I remember hunting in the Dreadlands as a lvl 46-49 and the spiders there seemed awfully familiar. It looks to me like there's some truth in that LDoN guy saying the Castle Mistmore was only an "experiment" that was led by Mistmore of trying to create a stronger army of Dark Elves so then after he figured the vampires were about worthless he moved onto the continent of Kunark and continued his experiments. Everytime you kill one of those spiders it gives you mayong faction hits so this seems like it would be true. Anyway I guess that's why he was never meant to be a spawn in Mistmore because he just created an image of himself as the head guy there but was never made into a vampire himself like the Darkelves he was experimenting on. Anyway it's kind of fun to try and follow the story but unfortuntely not much more tangible stuff looks like it's being made just retelling of the old stuff like LDoN. Maybe Vangard will let EQ feel live on...

Mayong Mistmoore was only spawned a couple of times a year by a GM - specifically, Brad McQuaid, one of the original EQ developers. He, allegedly, spawned on the birthdays of Brad's kids. Brad actually played Baron Mistmoore as a controlled NPC. Since Brad left SoE Mayong Mistmoore has not been seen. That was several years ago. The last time I heard he was up was in the days just before Kunark came out.

My guess is that, unless Brad consents to play him, that we will never see Baron Mistmoore spawn again. Its kind of a tradition that Mistmoore was Brad's. Of course, I could be wrong and he may pop again one day.
