a rare creature

The Shin Lord is a Paladin (a fact which many Paladins after Ghoulbane find a bit odd), he can lay hands and is without a doubt the toughest fight in Upper Guk.

The sword is a rare drop.

can a level 34 druid solo him?
RE: ?
# Nov 03 2000 at 1:33 AM Rating: Default
i doubt it a lot since it is hard to break the room at lvl 34 for ANY class, hell, on my 50 mage, i lost 600hp when my pet was bashing the frogs to death. the shin lord is about lv 30 so you might be able to solo him, but there are several other frogs in the room as well. and if a runner gets away, you are in **** city. also, the shin lord has lay hands so he has a refill on life if he can get his lay hands off. besides, druids shouldn't being trying to get **** they can't use.

Exactly. If this were a perfect world, only paladins would be able to loot or hold the Ghoulbane. That'd make sense, wouldn't it? Y'know, that's a good idea... making class-specific loots. :D Sure, it'd kinda drive prices back through the roof all over again (they're just now getting reasonable), but it'd solve a lot of problems, such as a dark elf wizard dropping Hide, blasting the crap out of the gnoll who drops the PGT in Highpass, and Gating right in front of our eyes.

Ah well, I guess wizards tend to do a lot of KS'ing due to the fact that fast damage is about the only thing they excel toward. That and teleporting. They did get the short end of the stick. Don't get my wrong, I love wizards, I just abhor players who use wizardry to jack a mob you've been camping for hours. Repeatedly.

thats funny, i would stun the wiz during his port, root him, petition, keep rooting, stun, **** him off, kick his ***....watch out for KSes for vexven in highpass. oh and iff you KS me when im getting GB, and lord pops, has it, i will not sleep until you are banned.
see...
# Jun 26 2000 at 12:20 PM Rating: Decent
Now there is your problem.. ever heard of /assist?

All target one mob, and take it out first... 3 mobs at 20% health, do more damage then one mob at 60% heath. You all would have lived, or at least gotten the GB.. =)
GB

It isn't cowerdice to buy something you dont have time to camp. Not all of us can play as much as we like. I camped it twice with a group for 4 hours each time. 1 silver bracer and some rusty swords. I have tried on other occasions but could not even get in past the crowds, all wanting GB. Just my opinion but I think Verant should make GB a no drop quest item and give the Shin Lord something else to drop. But knowing how Verant loves to ***** Paladins I am sure the quest would be annoyingly difficult. Not like that easy Ro armor :p
RE: GB
# Nov 12 2000 at 9:34 AM Rating: Default
It certainly isn't cowardice to buy it. Matter of fact, that's probably what I'll have to do, since I'm not in a guild and I don't have any friends who play EQ who are of suitable level to help out. Heck, look at it this way; you're getting a precious, holy blade away from the filthy hands of the unfaithful and putting it toward your deity's service.

There's some off-the-top-of-my-head rationalization for ya. ^^

# Mar 23 2001 at 6:50 AM Rating: Decent
I personally don't have the blade either, but would probably buy it if I had the money. The people saying that its the cowards way are most likely going to be the people that either spent 3 days straight camping it or don't have the money to buy it themselves. I would say its just jealousy

No, feign death lets the mob forget who did the damage. Who ever does the next damage gets the kill!
I HATE this guy
# Jun 16 2000 at 10:00 PM Rating: Decent
Imagine I was camping this guy for twenty hours total for a Ghoulbane. Imagine that my full group of six gets cut down to four when the entire East Coast servers suddenly go down. Imagine TWO froglok vis shamans AND the Shin Lord spawning at the same time. Imagine getting a shaman down to 50% health, and the other shaman or that Lord keeps healing them. I feign death, other three members of group dies. Now, imagine me lying on the floor, STARING at the Ghoulbane, which I have painfully camped for hours upon hours, and the shamans and the Lord, both oom, are standing there with 20% health EACH. Now, little ******* level 53 wizard casts an AoE spell, kills all three in one lick, gets Ghoulbane. *SIGH* back to Guk.

That really.. really sucks. *sigh* I'm hoping to get Ghoulbane someday, but WHY in the name of Karana did Verant have to make this part of the SK quest?! I'm sure they know that this mob is one of the most popular mobs for KS'ers, and paladins have a huge pain in the butt when it comes to getting one for themselves. Hmm... SK... KS. I wonder if there's a coorelation. :P There's plenty in the way of easier things to camp for plat if that's what people want, as a wizard certainly has no business looting the Ghoulbane. What, because it looks nice in your inventory? Twinking your new pally at level 1 with Ghoulbane even though its effect won't proc until about 20? Yeah, I actually saw a twinkie with this sword the other night, made me wish, just for a moment, that EQ -was- PvP so I could spank the punk.

- a disgruntled paladin, still without her Ghoulbane

PS - If you're a highlevel shadowknight and you want this sword for your quest, just buy the friggin' thing... there's one or two sold in East Commonlands alone -every- night on Druzzil Ro. Then again, practically -everything- is sold in the East Commonlands every night. Saw it offered for 1800 plat tonight.

If Verant had a heart they would make items such as the ghoulbane(and other dynamic quest items)only lootable by the classes that need them for such. There really is no reason why they couldn't have coded this for Sks as well and set it that no one else but those 2 classes could loot it.

RE: I HATE this guy
# Feb 18 2001 at 2:44 AM Rating: Default
i totally agree....they should have it looted by just that class..and no other
RE: I HATE this guy
# Mar 22 2001 at 4:49 PM Rating: Decent
That doesn't work though. Say your Pally and 5 friends get down there alive, hold the room for the hours necessary, and the Shin Lord pops with the GB. And you die 10 seconds before the Shin Lord does. How will the group feel sitting there, watching the sword rot as you frantically run down from Freeport.
Just another angle on the whole "who can loot" thing.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 08 2000 at 12:10 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Elitek of RZ a mob isn't gonna drop what you're looking for every single time he spawns.. sometimes it takes weeks to get a single item, that's why so many people would rather by something like GB instead of get it. that's why mostly trolls and ogres get GB and sell it because they live right next to Guk and have the time to do so. So don't go around complaining that the mob isn't dropping u want.. just makes you look like dumb s h i t lying around on the floor.
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 09 2000 at 1:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i think the guy you are refering to is just telling a sad story of when he camped the shin lord. he really wasnt complaining about anything so just calm your *** down, *****.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 03 2000 at 8:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) yea i'm a 50 necro with a lot of time to camp stuff. my 49th necro friend camped it for 4 hours, lord spawned 3 times, one gb 2 bracers, the next day i camp it, spawed in the first 15 minutes i was there, droped gb, stayed ther 5 more hours to help a friend get one, never spawned again! then 3 days ago, my necro friend camped it for 9 hours, one spawn, one bracer, next morning i go there and after one place holder he spawned again, droped gb....

Like the post that says "bring a RAN or DRU for Snare" is that because Paladin's Root is too weak, resisted too much or just simply not as good as Ranger/Druid spells?
Secondly ---Paladin's need to unite and camp GB them selves and not buy them other classes that way all Paladins have chance to get without being raped by Casters who have nothing better to do than camp stuff they can't use and then KS it to try sell or trade you afterwards ( yeah like a Paladin has anything a Caster wants at the levels to hunt the GB unless you have items for them to twink a new character) -- if you're so worried about storyline then a Holy Sword should be obtained by a honorable warrior who fought for his right to wield such a weapon, not bought in a cowardly manner of convienence.
BTW did you ever think that the Shin Lord was cast out and may have stolen the Ghoulbane and that the sword's Holy Presence allows him to LH while he still wields it and to justify his death is to strike him down and gain back the sword for honorable Paladins throught Norrath. ( may help save up to 3K pp which will come in handy when you need to spend your 1500pp on Platinum bars for Armor of Ro -- another Paladin nightmare, can you say "UNSTACKABLE components" Woohoo!!!)
#Anonymous, Posted: May 11 2000 at 10:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) the way i see it is the frog has a sword i want and besides he looks ugly thats a good enough reson to kil him thats why my dark elf kill ogre guard there ugly

yes a full group of lvl 26 can camp for Ghoulbane... Make sure u bring a druid or a ranger to snare.. and make sure NO RUNNER or u guys gonna be in some serious trouble.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 05 2000 at 9:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) could a full group of lvl 26 successfully camp the ghoulbane if not what lvl would we need to be
Fallen Pally

Why does Brother Jentry Lay Hands Lucan???? Your saying only good loyal pallies can Lay Hands so WHY would a loyal pally heal Lucan???So the Shin Lord prolly IS a fallen pally

Paying someone to kill someone else is bloodmoney. Paying for an item looted from a 'brother' is bloodmoney. Verant screwed this story up completely. There is no justification in it at all, as you cannot get the ultimate paladin weapon without attaining the Ghoulbane. There are plenty of ways they could have done this without making it a loot from a Paladin.
RE: Roleplay
# Aug 20 2000 at 4:59 PM Rating: Default
no i think it works just fine. the shin lord maybe a pally, but that doesnt mean he worships the same god as you other pallys, thus making him an enemy.
RE: Roleplay
# Aug 31 2000 at 5:28 PM Rating: Default
No, that thinking is flawed. If differing deities made paladins enemies, then why does the paladin camp in the rathe mountains that starts the armor of ro quests exist? Shouldn't the yall be killing one another?

Brother Jentry
# Apr 03 2000 at 9:22 AM Rating: Default
It's not Sir Lucan who uses Lay Hands, it's his buddy Brother Jentry. Another character of mine has participated in 5 such raids. In each one we lured Sir Lucan away from the others (don't ask how :) ). Once Brother Jentry was out of the picture, Sir Lucan went down quick. No Lay Hands at all.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 02 2000 at 1:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) are you mental? Sir lucan can use lay hands...... it always uses it befor ehe dies when you try to get soulfire
*sigh* :)

So I won't go whack the poor little fellow myself - I'll just pay some Ogre SK named Tony to go do it for me? Great :).
Ghoulbane
# Mar 22 2000 at 6:57 PM Rating: Decent
No, you're not killing a fellow paladin. You're merely condoning his murder for the sake of capitalism. ;-)

Don't try to RP in Norrath, Verant has left way too many holes in the background story, I'm afraid.
