Not enough talk about the Serrated Bone Dirk to convey the appreciation that this weapon deserves! It is ROGUE ONLY, (and a danged fine rogue weapon it is) but in Rallos Zek it fetches a pretty penny - around 600pp- that is a nice reward for anyone wishing to camp the assassin. But to all of you out there who wish to camp the assassin for the SBD..if you see me in the shadows, can I have it? hehe!

This is for the rangers and the druids!

I was wondering if a druid or a ranger could cast wolf form and be on their way thru the zone? I've been in Unrest and it works fine but I was wonderin cause then that would be real nice thnx.

Wolfform only fixes faction with undead in Unrest, it doesn't work in other zones. Also, wolfform is outdoor only, and Guk is an indorr zone.
Spawn times (The real deal)
# Apr 01 2001 at 7:03 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I camped him last night (for 4.5 hours) for a friend of mines low level bard. The spawn on the assasins spawn point is 30minutes. (The other 2 spawns in the room were 15 or so) He spawned for me twice out of 8/9 spawns in that spot. The first time he dropped his rare(dagger), second time he dropped the DE Mask, and a FS sword. The Supplier never spawned in this time for me.
lower lvl advice

This might have already been said but is it possible for a lvl 13 to 20 bard to get in and out without becoming a stain on some mob's foot? please post if you have done so or know of anyone that has.
RE: lower lvl advice

If you can get to the Deadside zone you can do it if you are careful and certain things are in place.

1) You will need Invis vs. Undead (IVU) to get to the room. Once you are past the first MOB and the ones are the intersection the rest in the area are all undead (except Bats - see below).
2) Bedroom (BR) is camped. This will allow you to get past the Vampire Bats. They see invis but even if they are there you can hug the left wall and get past them safely.
3) If the Assassin is camped you can just sit up there (with their permission) and wait for the Assassin to spawn.

I snuck down there with my level 12 Rogue and waited for 2-3 hours before I was able to loot a Mask. It helps out a lot when I sit at the Newbie log in Nek, or wander into Neriak or even when I want to hunt in OT it allows me to do all of these and opens up my horizons. Well worth the wait in my mind.
PH and spawn time?

I was here the other night for two hours hiding in the corner while the guy who camped the room took the spawns.

Not once did the Assassin or supplier spawn.

How long is the spawn time for the Assassin.

BTW - I used my down time to take one whack at the undead frogs to help my faction with the live ones. Granted I was dubious to begin with so I walked down from UG but it is nice to raise the faction in case I ever wanted to ruin it in the future before I can handle myself solo against them.
PH and spawn time

Not totaly sure on place holders. But the Assassin is on about a 4 hour spawn. I went down there one day to get the mask and some one was in front of me. So I waited. 3 hours later he popped and dropped the mask. 4 hours later he poped and all had has was the SBD. So a few more days of trying to get in and wait for the mask with out a line and i finaly got it. Little late then I'd like to get it but it was worth the wait(lvl 23 i got this)
Getting the mask
# Dec 07 2000 at 6:52 PM Rating: Default
Its not truely that hard to get the mask. If your skill in sneak/hide is decent enough or your lucky the undeads in Lguk won't see you, save for the assain who will and hits pretty far, if a lvl 50 druid is camping it solo and rooting/DOTing him stay far away form the assain or you'll have a long run back form FP or where ever you were bound. Just pray that the assain doesn't drop the SBD. If he does your SOL he don't drop both. At least as far as I've seen. The assain as far as ive seen is on a 4 hour spawn rate. This is all I know and I'm liking the mask. The blue tint...Blue*Shudders*... Get kinda annoying when its dark but the extra vision helps alot!

Can't wear, but can I use?
# Oct 10 2000 at 9:27 AM Rating: Default
Can an Ogre Warrior use the Mask's Illusion Effect by right-clicking it from the inventory or will it only work for Rogues 'n Bards?
RE: Can't wear, but can I use?
# Oct 19 2000 at 5:57 PM Rating: Decent
This one must be worn to use the effect. The nerfed version which was the Masque of the Deciever could be used in the inventory slot. Being that is no longer dropped and is NO DROP you can never get one and must be a bard or rogue to use the effect.

# May 25 2001 at 4:12 PM Rating: Default
Un nerfed version is called guise of the deceiver, it was still bard rogue only but you could click it from your inventory. Must be on a real old server to have gotten these, they were awesome.
all about the supplier
# Oct 02 2000 at 8:11 AM Rating: Default
this room that the assassin spawns in is not only always camped because of easy kills and phat lewt from both the assassin but also the supplier who drops the famous tbb or thick banded belt. I have been camping in this room for the last 4 lvls and still cannot get one the stats are ac 8 str 15 and melee fighters best friend , this room is very easy once broken into singular pops every five or 6 minutes. This room is good xp and great cash to all that go there.

Here's the run down on the Masks of Deception and the spawn.
1. Yes, when it is being camped the Assassin group normally lets newbies nab the mask.
2. ITU will get you there, but watch out for Greater Ice Bones & Vampire Bats & Gargoyles (Oh my).
3. The room is accessed by climbing a ladder, it is the second ladder (past the first one at the entrance) in the tower.
4. The room has 3 spawns. the Supplier or PH, the Assassin or PH, and some crap spawn, like a Vis or Wan Knight. Maybe a Tal wiz.
5. The Supplier drops the Light burlap sack, 8 slots 3 pounds 70% weight reduction, holds pretty much everything but the BIG stuff. Sack is common. His rare drop is the Thick Banded Belt, ac 8, +15 STR. This is a ******** belt.
6. Assassin drops are well known to all, no need to repeat em.
7. *Muy Importante* There is ANOTHER Mask of Deception! Found in Trakanon's Teeth, Kunark, this mask has the same stats except that it is not NO DROP and gives the effect of Illusion: Iksar. Everything else remains the same.
8. Dark Elves turn into Iksar when worn? Hell no.
9. Dark Elves get it in the shorts, I tells ya! The shooorttss! =)
Any other questions, comments, or flames may be directed to my adress, ArchMahgi@aol.com, where they will be summarily ignored. Thank you.

Another note, the assasin himself does see through invis to undead, very nasty when scouting rooms for breaks while invisible, especially since he can see you the moment you're fully up the ladder, to avoid this don't go fully up the ladder but go up until you can barely see over and pan your view, if the assassin is up he won't see you unless you're almost level with him.

Actually, to fix that problem, the good people who made the game have set up a third mask, which casts effect: erudite which will allow you to enter "good" cities. So go out and kill that 50+ guy and get that mask (btw, this one is not no drop, nor is the iksar mask, as a result, you will have to pay for it)
# Aug 15 2000 at 4:26 PM Rating: Default
Well seeing as my level 3 half elf rogue got in there with sneak/hide, without any problems, I dont see why your human friend couldnt
Looting this bad boy...
# Aug 14 2000 at 9:02 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone who has gotten the mask since it was changed: do higher level groups camping the ghoul (for the dirk) ever let lower bards/rogues loot this item? Could invis vs. undead get you to this room? A friend of mine is a bard and human (heh, so no nightsight) and if we could get this pre-35ish it would be great.
RE: Looting this bad boy...
# Sep 14 2000 at 3:21 PM Rating: Default
Usually it's not a problem for people to loot this mask, regardless of the level. If nobody in the group is a rogue or bard the groups there don't care.

In my groups we don't even loot the mask, we just shout in the zone that the mask is on the assasin... either someone comes by and picks it up, or the corpse rots... most likely the mask would just get destroyed anyway if nobody IS there to loot it.

Guise of Deceiver
# May 17 2000 at 6:00 PM Rating: Decent
I have a wizard that had the guise of the deceiver and it has been changed to Bards and Rogues only. Yes I am not mistaken it is the Guise of the deceiver and I was able to wear it at one point but cannot now as it was changed. Since it is no drop it is basically worthless, unless the stats get changed again.
RE: Guise of Deceiver
# Aug 29 2000 at 3:54 PM Rating: Default
The old guise doesn't have to be worn to be used. Only bards and rogues can WEAR it, but if you have one, you can click it from a top-level inventory slot to activate the illusion.
DE and the mask
# Apr 15 2000 at 5:05 PM Rating: Decent
DEs dont really "get it in the shorts" as Adraii so eloquently put it. they may not be able to use the illusion, but its still a very nice mask and relatively easy to get using hide and sneak since its no drop.
RE: DE and the mask
# Aug 24 2000 at 11:32 AM Rating: Default
The Mask is +13 to your Charisma and +7 to save vs Magic, so not entriely useless, even to a DE rogue. However the Illusion is the most sought-out property of this mask, so you don't see many DE's sneaking down to Lower Guk for it.

For Humans, it's well worth the adventure and the soiling of your shorts to get this Mask at a low level. Retrieving the Mask is an adventure that shouldn't be missed, though. I did this with my level 20 WE Bard and was cowering in the corner of the supply room, heh. You need a great deal of luck to get into (and thusly out of) the supply room, but with some help from the folks hunting there, it is not impossible to do.
What it does:
# Mar 29 2000 at 11:53 AM Rating: Decent
The Serrated is an 8/27 rogue only dagger, effect of Engulfing Darkness. Damn good. The mask lets you turn into a Dark Elf when worn, so DE rogues kinda get it in the shorts.
Sees Invis
# Mar 09 2000 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
This ghoul will see thru Invis Vs Undead, so becareful when checking whether or not this room is camped, better to just ask in shout. As to comment about buying on E-bay, I think "That one guy" meant to buy and account with a character that already owns the old mask, as opposed to buying just a mask.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 06 2000 at 7:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) cant buy a guise of the deciever on Ebay... its no drop... nice try.. :)
Mask of Deception! Not Guise of the Deci
# Mar 05 2000 at 6:00 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, there have been many posts like this, what don't you ppl understand. The OLD drop was "Guise of the Deciever" and anyone could use it to make them look like a smurf. There has been a patch and NOW it drops the "Mask of Deception" which has also has the smurf illusion BUT only bards and rogues can use. So if you want to look like a smurf but aren't a bard a rogue you're gonna have to blow your money on some eBay account with one or get VERY lucky and win this someone in a GM event or something.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 03 2000 at 2:56 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) That is the old version that had an effect that was usable by all. The new version is Bard and Rouge only, and only they can wear/use effect.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 02 2000 at 10:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Can warriors and other classes use the mask, i have seen several other classes use it(WAR,MNK,CLR,NEC,RNG,DRU.....and many more) Has anyone else seen this? I play on Brell Serilis, might be a bug....SHHHHHH heh =)

dagger is rogue only
