And he dropped the SMR but I had already looted one from Yendar https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=8188 (much easier to get to for high levels)

As of August 2014 he is still around. Though I cleared the camp around 8-9 times before I saw him once, and then have cleared it another 8-10 times now. On test, no one is in the zone 98% of the time, so I just log in, kill, log out and do something else, repeat.. on a daily basis lol. Just looking for robes for rogue.

30 minute spawn timer.....had the robe in 1 and a half hours

the arch magus is in a tunnel off to the east of the main hallway going toward the lord
Yendar Starpyre, a gnome in Steamfont also drops the Shining Metallic Robes. He is a roamer. Took him down today with me (52 rogue) 70 cleric 62 shadow knight 65 bard and 65 ranger. If you are looking for the SMR, this is much easier than camping the Ghoul for X number of days. Hope this is a help.

i was just exploring around the dead side of lower guk with improved invisiblity vs undead me being a 51 necro and i guess this guy can see through it, anyway i was walking around and i guess he aggroed through wall becase i didnt' even go to the camp and all of a sudden i realized my pet was at 40% and the ghoul arch mangus kept trying to cast instill on me but it never stuck with 147magic resist and i couldn't find my pet fast enough to go kill the bugger so pet died and that made me pissed because it took me forever to get him toys so i fd then got back up summoned pet buffed myself up pulled him with slow then started stacing dots on him, only nuke of his i didnt resist was some cold based one that i only partially resisted he dropped fast and i got the robe, dont need it i'll just sell it i guess...

I hate this magus.. Ive camped in for 30 hours. Spawned twice. And Dropped the legs.. I wish I could go buy the damned smr. but theres only one in the bazaar, and its 10k.. I dont even have 10k copper. ><

spawn times are 28 minutes. random between PH (a kor ghoul wizard) and Arch-Magus. soloed camp with 51 druid. used all 6 of my dots and he went down easily enough. did have to have V to survive it though. medd 20 minute and rebuffed for next fight. was little trouble really

the repop timer her isn not 13min and 33 sec it is 30 min like all other in the zone

This guy is pretty soloable for my 52 enchanter, but I imagine that since I'm mostly using level 49 or lower spells it's doable at 49 as well. This is usually my spell line up:
Dazzle
Tash
Discordant Mind
Slow
Color Skew (44 Stun)
Rune 3
Theft of Thought
Gate (in case I need to hit the "oh ****" key)
I make sure to have my 49 pet hasted with Swift at all times, and give him something to dual wield (FS works great of course, but toys are even better).
Tash the AM, then alternate between DM and Skew. Twice I've killed him now and he never got a spell off besides Immobilize (which I resisted, of course). Takes about half my mana bar (2700 mana unbuffed), he has about 6k hp or so I estimate (more if he's buffed himself, closer to the order of 7k when you factor in Diamondskin and Arch Shielding).
So far I've gotten:
15 placeholders
3 arch magus with legs
I'm this close to convincing my friend who quit two years ago to reactivate so I can steal the robe he had on his wizard.

OK, it's been 4 days now, I camp this place on average 7 hours a day, yes, 7 hours a day. I make stops in Bazaar often between pop's to see if there is one for sale because I will buy it.
OK, here are some landmarks for those trying to find the camp as this is the best I can do.
It's on level one, it's South of the Ghoul Lord camp, East of the Animated Hand camp as the location of /loc 1175, neg 880
There is a hidden wall entrance, but you dont' need to use it to get to him. Also, if you fall in a pit with the corrupted gnome executioner or whatever his name is, you are right where you should be as this guy seperates the animated hand camp from the Magus camp.
Also visit http://www.eqatlas.com and type lower guk in the search.
Some of my experiences with the Magus.
I have killed him 11 times, sometimes he will spawn back to back, sometimes I will have to wait 2 hours to see him again. All 11 times it's been pants. A total drag and the main holdup for an Epic that is clearly outdated. Why do I even bother doing the quest? Well, this is the last 'kill' item I need to finish the quest and when I start a quest, I do like to finish them, even though I do rant the long camps as I progress. :)
Just get the camp, sit and kill the 2 spawns every 30 minutes. When you see the magus, kill him, but dont' get too excited unless you actually see the robe, because I tell you what, it's ULTRA RARE, not Rare, becaue to me, Rare is 1 out of 10, I am 1 out of 11 and counting, so, it's ultra rare to me.
For those of you that happened to run by and kill this guy and get the robe on the first try, all I can say is Congratulations! If you dont' need it, go to the Bazaar and sell it for 8k to 10k and make some Rogue or Enchanter epic wanna-be happy!

Im a lvl 54 enchanter and with the help of a 54 druid was, with sum luck able to get to the specified area listed at loc 1175, -880. stayed there several hours, but no arch ghoul mage. On some of the post there's talk of a secret door or hidden wall? where is that?
Is there an easy way to get the arch ghoul mage to spawn? Am I in the rite area?

Location is /loc 1175, neg 880, it's to the right of the animated hand room. You will know you are there when you see a room with book shelves and two mobs in the room one in front of the other. Another indicator that you are there is there is a hole in the ground with a ladder, there is nothing in the hole and it's quite small. Just sit there and you should get a spawn every 30 minutes, I wish it was 12minute spawn as mentioned in the other post, but it's not 12min.

Did it with my 50 rogue and 60 druid, easy prey but getting the robes is a pain. Camped at first the wrong spawn point (the guard in front of the room)...((( .. so this shouldnt happen anymore to others...here the votes fooooorr.. the arch ghoul Magus;-)

SMR sells atm for 3k-6k at Antonius Bayle, so was to expensive for such a lowlevel mob.... take em with your smaller toons...decent ep there also and you can get the other named there too.

If a small group with lvl 40-50 hunts him, then I recommend to cancel his spells first (DS & Absorb dmg) and to pull the three guys not at once.. so try to get the PH for the Arch Ghoul Magus and his bodyguard not at same time..pull him to the small room after having cleared it from a froglok knight/wizard.

I've been camping the Magus in Lguk for two days because my chanter needed the robe for her epic. I came to find out there are actually two versions of this mob. The first one is uninvised and not very strong. The one that has the robe appears uninvised and is a bit stronger. I had my pet and my husband's druid helping me. I hope that knowing there are two of them helps those that are camping him.
people have been asking "WHERE HE SPAWNS" and though all your soloing Ideas and info are great it still dont answer where do he spawn.... please at what loc does this Mob spawn at?
You ever check the map? It says where he is right on it....
If you're REALLY that lazy, it's just before the Lord Room on the right hand side, thru a secret door. Has one mage beside him that will agro as well.

Soloed this guy tonight with my 56 Chanter and 55 pet - Kicked is harris all over the place and he dropped the SMR - Woot - first time id seen him 2. I guess when the lower mortals outside start conning DB at 56 your in with a good chance of a pop - camped before when all were LB and no pop. Lucky I guess

yeah yeah i know how folks get when someone says 'easy for a X level' when they are way higher than the mob level, but it is easy for a 43 mage and 56 wizard. fire pet can tank the magus while wizard and i nuke away. so pet can tank it even tank it plus add if you can get the DPS to take them down.
