You were playing into the strenghts of the hag with your 36 pally. use root heal yourself, advance bash and chain stun for interupts and that hag wont last long.

Absorb the blows
# Dec 28 2005 at 5:03 PM Rating: Decent
Ok I just got into it with one of these things as a 36 Pally. Oh big mistake. Well I am sitting here thinking its just one with nothing around it, dark blue, pally undead slayer weapon that doubles for 100 each hit, Instrument of nife. I cast a ward undead just to pull it. Blam blam 300 point blast, 2 seconds later 450 point blast, zone time lol. I get to the tunnel area and turn on it, just to try to hit it, because I was a tad upset at this point. Every swing, a festering hag absorbs the blow through its magical body (something like that). I couldn't even lay a hit on it, swung 6 times and was absorbed each time, blam blam two more 300 point blasts, and yes I had endure magic on, which put me about 55, I resisted only two spells. The level on this thing is way below what it should be. This hag is no joke, and I would recommend blasting it with a mage or wiz and just hope the tank doesn't go down from the blasts. Yeah I'm not playing with that thing anymore. Good luck to anyone who does, but till I get a nuke spell for undead he will stay right where he spawns. Enough said.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 09 2003 at 9:32 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) [b]Went in last night with my 23 Necro to see how bad she was. Put up a good fight and had her down to 1/4 life by chain casting my pet and lifetapping. Wound up taking me down. Came back in with my 47 Shaman and wiped the floor with her. Pet took her out without having to cast one shaman spell. Take that ya biotch LOL.
Stupid little hags

i was in the basement of unrest. when i turned around the corner a hag aggroed on me. i thought i could take it but noooooooo i got knocked into next tuesday by the stupid little hag who spell casts for about 300-350 points of damage. i am now afraid to go near hags now. :( i also hate it when you have to get your corpse back because it is next to the hag which will cause you problems :( so BEWARE of STUPID LITTLE HAGS who can SPELLCAST THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF YOU :P you have been warned

I'd be careful unless you have very high resists. I was camping the mortuary fungus last night as a level 41 Necro, and accidentally aggroed a couple of hags, one dark blue, one light blue... they cast several nukes on me, one of which hit for over 300 hit points.

AFAIR the one that was attacking me rather than my pet took three lifetaps before it went down (didn't have any undead nukes memmed and, anyway, my evocation sucks), so that would give them somewhat over 450 hit points; you might be able to get off three nukes before they kill you, but even one solid hit from them will take down most of your hit points. If you can single-pull and keep it aggroed on your pet you'll probably be OK, but it will certainly be risky.

You can keep a bad Hag down

Took my 36 druid in to Unrest last night, just to the stairs by the bookcase. Usually if there's a Hag there i'll harmony her and pull whatever else pops there. But i decided to have a go last night. Put up Endure Magic and Resist Fire. Pulled her out of the basement using Ensnare, and drew her to the front door. She only got 3 spells to hit me, and took 300hp from me. No probs if you have Greater Healing. Nuked the hag on the porch 3 or 4 times with Combust and she was down...too easy for a dark blue con.

I hadn't been to Unrest for a while, so I went back yesterday just to see if they had made any changes. That recent patch to caster npcs made the hags much tougher. Before, she could only really cast 1 really bad dd for ~200 and maybe 2 other ones for 70-100. After the patch, they now have about 3 different 200-300pt dd's, as well as being able to cast bonds of force and enstill. Bonds of force ripped my wolf form right off so all of the lvl 20 junk began to agro on me.

They might as well have returned to the days when these things used to be enchanters and charm the members of my group to beat the hell out of me.

With my 33 monk I ventured in alone. I wasn't planing on fighting these hags but ended up with 2 on my tail at once. Fortunately I have cold and fire resistance around 80, but they were still hiting for 120-240 or so per shot. I was barely able to FD and get crawl out alive. Definitely not something I would try to solo until about 40 when I can resist most damage based on level difference. I think I'll also get my magic resist up while I'm at it.

not sure, she has a 300dd and can chain nuke, if you go to were she spawns you will find alot of other nasties

Here's what the other guy said________________

Took my lvl 30 ranger, well equipped for level, and went in the basement to find a hag. Cast harmony, didn't take. Rooted the werebat thingy and fought the hag. She blasted me for 237 about 5 times in 20 seconds....LOADING, PLEASE WAIT..

However, unless I'm mistaken, Rangers don't get Bash; a Warrior with any brains can Bash the mob the instant they start casting, and thereby interrupt most of the nukes. A Wizard with nukes is a tough proposition, a Wizard who can't cast might as well be a piece of tissue paper (though these mobs certainly hit harder in melee than a PC Wizard of the same level and probably have a few more hit points).
Great EXP

At level 38 these hags still give me great exp. The key to these are to stun and slash away. It took me a while to learn that lol. With out stunning ive had just one take up 700hps in the 30sec it took to kill it. They can do some serious chian casting. But they do have a small amount of hps(400-600 range)

All this to get a gossamer robe? Geeze.
RE: what a pain
# Apr 01 2002 at 1:36 AM Rating: Good
You can get the gossamer robe from a quest if you dont want to kill a hag.

#1 Kill the taskmaster in Crusbone until he drops a brass earing. I think you can get a brass earing from another source.

#2 Give a female elven slave in Crushbone the brass earing. The slave will give you some experience coin and a note. *Note you have to give the earing to the female elven slave to get the right note. If you give the earing to a different slave you will get a different quest than the quest beeing described in my post.

#3 Give the note to 'Niola' near the mage guild in Felwelth. She will give you experience and a gossimer robe.

Here's the link to the quest =)

This robe looks very nice it has a wedding dress look, Ive head of the ladies wearing these for getting maried in the game.

these things conned blue to me at 37, not a good idea to try and solo blues in a dungeon setting, unless you got the xp to blow. you should at least think that dying would be a possibility.
Do not underestimate these

It was a slow night in unrest. The corpses were piled a little higher than usual, a death beetle train had just returned from chasing some poor fellow to Dagnor's Cauldron, and the trains seemed unnnaturally calm. There were only 3 people in the zone; not enough to camp the bar room, not enough to keep a second-floor pull from turning into a runaway train, and too high to kill yard trash or first floor spawns. We were f-ing bored. So, one of the group members--the name, class and level elude me at the moment, says to me (enchanter) and the druid, "This is pointless. We can't get a decent pull. It would take me a little while to get him here, but I could plevel you with my 5X paladin." At this point, I am quite intrigued. A 50-something paladin should b able to walk all over these mobs. He should be able to pull hags for us to kill. This will be great. So, we eagerly wait for him to come, spending our time killing tormented dead for skins to sell to rich people that are to lazy to hunt them. Finally, a level 56 (I think) paladin shows up and buffs us. Our strategy was simple. he would pull, beat it senseless, then I would mem blur and we would KS it. Simple and effective, and relatively low-risk, too. Well, he pulled some second floor trash, which was good, but hardly plevelign material. Then he bulled a skeleton (greater dark bone, I think) and a hag. The hag sat back and nuked him, so we just worried about the skeleton. It didn't take long to wear it down, I blurred it, the druid and I nuked it to death, and the Paladin moved on to the hag. I was watching the hag's health to see when I should blur it. Well, unfortunately, this hag really loved the paladin. I mem blurred it, but it still wanted to play with him. But we killed it before I could cast it a second time, so we lost hte exp on it, but still got the kill. The hag had taken a 56 paladin to below 25% health. This is with a single, relatively mob suporting it. Had the skeleton not been there, he probably would have lost at least half his health.
I'm sorry, but thats a lot of health. Yes, he could have easily soloed one, but that is in the perfect world where you get to land the first blow and don't have to worry about other mobs aggroing or spawning. Hags are best approached by a group, not a soloist, magic resistance on the main tank and lots of healing should be ready--don't expect to dodge a 150-point nuke. I have been hit by hags for upwards of 240, often for 179 as well, but that was at level 25. I don't know how hard they hit higher level players, but it should be at least a little less. My general strategy for taking out casters is to charge at them, so you can interrupt their spells as soon as possible. Being an enchanter, I am not the one to charge, but a mage pet can take the lead in front of the tanks. Sorry, Gebober, but you knew the job sucked when you took it. More hits are more important than big hits, although big hits are good, too. Casters should use lower level nukes that can be cast quickly, in an attempt to interrupt the hag's casting. It worked at level 24 for me, so it should work at least a little better for somebody that isn't being pleveled. Just remember that they not only hit hard, but can do so at a range.

MY NICE STORY
# Jul 14 2001 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
i got a good story of first encountering these guys. for one thing, LOOK OUT, festering hags roam the zone, but there is always 3 on the balcony, and if there is anything worse than a festering hag, its 3 of em, =P. like i said these guys roam the mansion, and in the bar room i encountered one and it blasted 300 points of damgage! i forget what it was it was smite i think but i thought that only does 75dmg, (alot i know! =P) anyways the point is they are pain, so watch out
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 15 2001 at 7:14 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i found the most i got nuked for by these nasty nasty casters is 237 on her fire spell and her ice spell did about 181 or so. I never got nuked for 300 but it might be my resist gear <shrug>
They hit HARD
# Jun 14 2001 at 6:32 AM Rating: Decent
Im a 39 ENC and I camped the priest of najena and the undead knight with 2 of my guildmates. Sometimes the hags are pulled as adds. I have both greater shielding and resist magic up and they still nuke me for 170+ dmg. In other words the best thing is to chain stun these things.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 13 2001 at 11:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i am tired of hearing about all you twinks under 25 killing the hag. because quite frankly, you never did and you never will.

I'm not sure but i have heard that these things can cast DD spells that do up to 300 damage. If this is true should I change to 2 1hs weapons instead of my EXE to interupt spells?

Hmm, it's a nice idea, but only if your 1hs weapons proc some kind of spell interrupt, like a stun. NPC casters don't get interrupted by regular hits like PCs do- you have to bash/stun/etc. If you're a large race, you can bash using slam- you won't need a shield, you just have to have something magical in your off hand for mobs that are only vulnerable to magic weapons. When fighting a caster, save your bash for when it begins to cast a spell...don't just use kick/bash whenever it cycles. Some people (for instance, a small race warrior who is lower-level and whose Dual Wield isn't very reliable yet) would be better off using some kind of shield, like a Shiny Brass. Then you'd be able to bash at will and get 10svm, and you wouldn't lose much attack power, if we assume that your DW would still be too low to go off very often. (The innate slam skill is one of the most overlooked bonuses of being a large-race warrior...I can't imagine what I'd do without it.) I carry svm gear around with me for just this kind of purpose- most wizard spells at this level will be resisted with your svm (lighting, force shock, etc.), so have it as high as possible when fighting wizzies. Spell interruption aside, 2 1-handed weapons are very likely to help you more in this situation than one big one, if they're of comparable quality, because you won't have to wait as long for it to cycle. At level 27, an exe axe has 50 delay, and that's bad when something runs, because you need to slow it down pronto in a train station like Unrest. (Do these hags run, anyone?) Anyway, if you're too far away on one of your hits, or if you miss, you're talking 10 seconds between clobbering this witch. Not good. But, the delay will go down when you hit 30- not sure of the haste%. I've heard anything from 20% to 30%, but I guess you'll find out ^_^ \/
